I had to take a break to process the plot twist in this one, and it's gonna make it more or less impossible to ever re-read the series with the same glee as I normally do
But it works? It was clearly intended from the beginning and it was a big gut punch but it works, and it came together well with the final few chapters to...
Wow. I mean I tell people it's a Yuri Isekai and they go "I know what that means" and it's exactly that for 80% of its runtime and then just does a hard pivot and recontextualizes everything that came before
Very impressive

Forgot to write review for this book. I am happy to report that THERE IS NO INCEST IN THIS BOOK. So happy about that. I like the twist and sci-fi element, it didn't feel like it was just thrown in either, it made sense. Can't wait for Claire's books and the anime to be released!
I had my doubts, but that twist surprisingly reinvigorated this series and brought real stakes and drama to the proceedings. This is a fitting end for a series that grew beyond what the author expected and had to adapt along the way, and that adaption might've been the most fascinating part of it all. Still too much incest though
bit of an abrupt genre shift but not bad! i think it managed to pull all the loose threads together well enough for a satisfactory ending. i'd be up for reading the claire sidestory inori proposed
Imma be real, that was a disappointment. It was just so basic bitch that it took me about seven months to finish. Compared to the pervious books in the series, this was the worse by far.
It should have ended at the second volume. The entire plotline with nur, the kids and demon queen was just lack luster if I'm honest.
I'm glad I've finished it though, got it off my TBR and can now start something else that might be more interesting.
The last volume of I'm in Love with the Villainess is a crazy rollercoaster. Was I expecting the genre to shift? No. Was I absolutely hooked up on it? 100%.
It is always difficult to review and rate the last book of a series without giving too much away, but I am finding this one incredibly hard because of how many unexpected things happened. Regarding the plot, I can only say that I would have never, in a million years, guessed how things would go on. While in the Nur Empire, I could somehow imagine the direction of the story thanks to our knowledge of the world and characters, but after that, it was just impossible. Moreover, the best part of it all is that it works perfectly with the world we have seen since volume one. Regarding the characters and relationships, I was impressed by how much presence they had despite focusing on the action/fantasy/sci-fi side of the story. My only complaint about the last installment was exactly that, by the way, so I was greatly surprised by this. I would not say that Rae and Claire have developed that greatly in this volume, but we definitely see the seeds of their development in the way they think and act. In fact, I think both, individually and collectively, were given so many new layers to their character and relationship that the whole perspective of them has shifted for me in a good way. I will say it again: they truly are SOULMATES. To be honest, I am sad to finish this series because I have loved the experience of reading it. I remember sobbing inctrollably in one particular scene and thinking: I'm never letting go of this. However, I have some solace in the fact that I have the side story and manga to keep my obsession growing.
To conclude, I recommend the I'm in Love with the Villainess series endlessly to anyone who wants a good sapphic fantasy story. It is so worth it that I will never be able to recommend it enough.
Well, this last volume starts really well. The plot twist was expected, but it surpassed the expectations I had – I couldn't stop reading it. But then, the last chapter came, and it was so boring and long that the excitement got lost in the middle... When finally things seem to have been solved with that Demon King, the story takes a turn that wasn't necessary tbh, it just made the ending longer and even more tiring. It was very underwhelming considering what was built on the previous chapter. And the conclusion wasn't satisfying for me, considering what was built before the last chapter.
[SPOILERS] Tbh I wish it continued following their irl versions, even though Claire was dead in the real world. Maybe Demon King Rei should have recovered the real Claire's memory or something like that, because Revolution Claire and real life Claire are nothing alike tbh Real life Claire was much more interesting, and their relationship in the real world was also much more intriguing. I wish it was better developed in the end, but they went back to Rei's Revolution world and Claire went back to being that tsundere self. I like Revolution Claire, but it would be much more convincing if her personality from the real world was kept.
Anyway, the ride was nice, so I'm giving it 4 stars for that. Some parts were very long and boring, but others were very fun and got me hooked.
What really got me off were those jokes in moments that should be serious. And the suggestive incest in that extra chapter was very disturbing.

The confrontation between humanity and the demon queen is about to start. It quickly becomes clear though that the conflict is ancient and much more personal to Rae and Claire than was apparent at first.
As with earlier parts of the series, the strength of the story lies in its characters and their interaction with each other. I like the fact that it is a romance, but that is not the main plot. The world building is kind of generic, and the "twist" within the series was for me not entirely unexpected. It fits the characters. It is just that you should not think too hard about the reasoning behind events since it does not hold up under close scrutiny. Some of the fights also dragged a bit too long for me as well.
Still, in the end it was a decent ending to the series. I would not object to spin offs as the author suggests in the afterword, but I do think the story of Rae and Claire is finished.
I generally don't use the "hide entire review because of spoilers" option, but I don't see how to avoid it here, since any description of this book is, fundamentally, a spoiler about the basic nature of the previous four books.
I definitely wasn't expecting the shift to "actually, this whole timeline is due to a toxic yuri relationship on a universe-existential level," but it works quite well, and explains a number of things, including why the world Rae Taylor finds herself in is, fundamentally, a video game made by Japanese people imitating Early Modern Europe, but with magic. There's still a lot I'm not entirely sure I understand, though, including why the Three Great Archdemons are named after Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle.

A friend got me started on this series a while back, and this volume brings it to a very good end. Granted, it does the late-season anime thing where we learn something that changes everything and so the book is absolutely not what I expected, but the author pulls it off very well - I kept thinking it was somehow going to fall apart by the end, but it all worked out and made sense. The book suffers a little from the lack of relationship development that earlier volumes had, but as it is the final volume, that's forgivable.
I'm so happy that I finished this series that I could cry!
I have to admit that the final volume blew my mind. If I hadn't suffered so much to get here through volumes 3 and 4, I would probably rate book 5 with 4 stars.
This saga could have been a terrific trilogy with the right edits. Books 2 to 5 had so much nonsense going on, they just waste the reader's time with little to none evolution from one to another. It's frustrating.
Also, despite having a lesbian couple as main leads, do not expect romance after the first volume. There is almost nothing in this department.
A very nice conclusion to the second act, it really pulled it together and I am glad that I read volumes 3-5 afterall. Not giving it 5 stars because I do feel like the amazing concept could have been executed a bit better. Also the bonus chapter had mother-daughter incest and that was wayyyy too much even if it was jut a dream, it still was so innecessary. Claire and Rae's love story was beatiful.
Although the latter half is kind of “not bad”, the former half of the book is pretty amazing! The backstory blew my mind! I was emotional invested as much as I was when I read vol 2, which is almost masterpiece in my opinion. Besides, it gave me some existential crisis and some questions about “eternal love”. However, the latter half is kind of lukewarm for me for the reason I can’t explain. Nevertheless, I still love this series.
I'm really surprised Inori managed to tie everything together in the end. I really feel like her writing improved over the course of these and the last book felt a lot better writing wise than any of the others. As for the story I enjoyed it, even if it was a bit cheesy and quirky at times. This last book really gets a bit wild with everything.
4,5 By far my favourite novel in this series. The plot twists were, well, unexpected, but quite fascinating. I can see why some might not like it, but I view this as a wonderful end to the story, though it's a shame to see it be over so soon.
One of the most satisfying and fulfilling lesbian relationships I've read. The out-of-this-world sci-fi was wholly unexpected but appreciated and took it all to a new level. I'll be rereading this for years to come
Could’ve been 3 stars but that major plot twist made it worth an extra star. Even though there were many characters throughout the whole series, the story fluids pretty well and they all have an important role for the last battles.
Less of the romance and comedy but more of the fantasy and adventure aspects. I didn’t like the origin lore and thought it was really unrealistic. Towards the end it really became a “with the power of love” trope which was a bit tiresome
Disappointing end to the series. Of all the end games to come up with this one was so cringe, nonsensical, and frankly creepy. I sped through the series but had to take breaks on this one bc how mad it made me.
This was such a good ending for the series. It’s ridiculous, but the whole thing has been ridiculous. I really love the parts of this series that take place in the modern world and I wish she wrote more of it.
