Queen of paranormal romantic comedy Molly Harper delivers love and laughter in this magnificent series finale—available in audio first!
Eva Boudreaux keeps the truth about her life before arriving in Mystic Bayou a carefully guarded secret, flying under the radar as a talented boat mechanic. In the swampy little town filled with powerful supernatural beings, Eva never expected to strike up a charged flirtation with one of the Bayou’s human residents.
Alex Lancaster is far too polished for Eva’s taste—not to mention the danger that comes with his high-ranking position in the League, which could expose her secrets. Trouble is, she can’t resist his disarming sense of humor or the chemistry that crackles to life whenever he’s near. Will Alex be able to handle a woman like her? Or will her difficult past keep them apart?
Either way, they’ll need to join forces to solve one final mystery in Mystic Bayou. The fate of the town—and their hearts—depends upon it.
Molly Harper is the author of more than 40 romance titles including the Half-Moon Hollow series, the Mystic Bayou, the Starfall Point series, and her first murder mystery, A PROPOSAL TO DIE FOR. She lives in Michigan with her family. For more information, go to www.mollyharper.com.
I’m not ready for Mystic Bayou to be done. 😩 But if it has to end, going out with a 6ft+ bisexual mechanic heroine with super strength and her adoring human hero is a damn fine way to go.
The following ratings are out of 5: Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙 Romance: 💙💚🖤❤️ Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔 World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎🌍 Character development: 😚😌😉🥹😘
The heroine:Eva Boudreaux - moved to Mystic Bayou to work as a boat Mechanic for Jon Carmody. She lives in a trailer on Jon’s property. She is tall, blonde, strong and has a huge secret she is hiding from everyone in Mystic Bayou.
The Hero:Alex Lancaster - he works for the International League for Interspecies Cooperation as a lawyer and the director of the Mystic Bayou office. He is polished, well dressed and handsome but comes from less than ideal roots. He grew up on the road with a traveling carnival where as a teenager he fell in love with Cordelia Canton who now also lives in Mystic Bayou.
The Story: Eva helps out Alex when his car breaks down and they are attracted to each other though Eva is very wary of Alex since he is a big-wig for the League in Mystic Bayou and most of magique grew up fearing the League. Eva is even more leery of Alex after he tells her that he had run a background check on her and it only led to more questions.
I like that Eva is a strong female character and I liked the mystery surrounding her. Also she turns out to be of a race that was surprising and made for a more fantastical story that your standard shifter and fairy stories. The fact that Eva is the big strong one in the relationship also made it more interesting.
This is the last book in this awesome series and though I have loved some of the books more than others, I just love this whimsical town and all the people who have found a home there (supernatural and human alike). This book was narrated by Amanda Ronconi and Jonathon Davis like all the rest and I can’t be more pleased with the way these two have so many voices and accents. These books are so close to a full cast audiobook with all the different voices and characters.
I am a bit sad to say good-by to Mystic Bayou. I will definitely miss all the folks that live there. Especially Zed and Bael!
I have really loved listening to the Mystic Bayou series. The characters were marvellous, the storyline always had me chuckling and the love stories were always cute, sweet and believable...if magic and shifters were real.
I loved A Farewell to Charms and got quite the kick out of seeing the heroine play the protector to the hero and the hero absolutely LOVING IT! I admit that normally, I wouldn't find it appealing, but it's done in such a normal kind of way, it didn't seem different or unusual. The characters knew where their strengths were and used them to their advantage.
The narrators were AWESOME as per usual and I loved getting to hear my favourite characters come out for this Farewell. I would love for this duo to work together again on something similar, their voices work so well together.
Again, sad to see this series come to an end, but if we ask very, very nicely, maybe Molly Harper will create something just as awesome...or go back for a revisit.
The author has thought outside the box with this book and these characters.👏👏
The heroine is a tall heroine… she is also taller than the hero.
The heroine is built in a sturdy/robust and rather muscular way…. The heroine is also very physically strong and much stronger than the hero physically… she easily carries the hero when he needed help etc.
A cinnamon roll hero. (Good and kind and understanding etc. but Not a pushover hero)
A hero that has no issues with the heroine being stronger than him… just finds it sexy etc.
The heroine is the supernatural character… and the hero is a human… which is rather unusual in paranormal romance/fantasy romance.
The heroine is also the one that is older than the hero.
A supernatural/paranormal species I have never read about in paranormal/fantasy romance before … the heroine is a Gnome.
The found family.
Bisexual heroine.
Good romantic build-up/romance and chemistry.
The world-building.
Rather interesting side characters.
The heroine was a rather confident heroine…. But….
There is no body-shaming of the heroine… not by others and not really at all by herself …. but she has some minor issues etc.
➖ What I disliked:
The heroine was a rather confident and self-assured heroine in almost all aspects of her life…. And she really had no issues with her body…. Which is really great and good to read👍…. But the heroine did kind of compare herself in a negative way to the women in the “human world” which was just strange and kind of unnecessary … she had lived so long and been through so much so why that insecurity? It added nothing to the story or the character… she also had no problems attracting both men and women. Would have been nice with a heroine that was more confident and self-assured about her own allure etc. and also not contradicting.
The heroine kind of dismissed and friend zoned the hero at the beginning of the book… and was also thinking he was not her type or her usual type …. but she found him attractive etc. And she did not really at first notice his clear interest and attraction to her… and did not think she was his type even-though he made it kind of obvious how attracted and interested he was in her. She also thought she was not in his “league” because he was highly educated and had a powerful job etc. and she was “just” a mechanic…. And her behavior was kind of contradicting.
The heroine was a little too clueless in knowing when people were attracted to her… for a person that had lived as long as she had and had dated as many people as she had. (It was not only the heroes interest she did not see right away… but another man that she thought was the villain and she yelled/argued with this man because he was being a little strange towards her … he was just attracted to her and wanted to ask her on a date etc. but behaved in kind weird way to show it... but still was just attracted to her )
Some little parts of the story kind of dragged and was too slow.
The sex scenes was rather vague ... but was also lackluster.
The issues and problems are solved a little too easily and quickly. (The heroine came from a controlling and dismissive and dysfunctional family that treated the heroine like a employee instead of a family member … they did not care about her interests and dreams or feelings etc. It got so bad that she only saw one way to solve it and that was to get away from them run from them to build her own life on her terms far away from them. Out of desperation among other things she took/stole a gem when she left… And the heroines parents were concerned about the gem… their business and their status and reputation much much more than they were about the heroine and why she ran from them. She tried to be heard … tried to make herself heard and talk to them over and over but they did not care so she ran. And the heroines parents then sent a unhinged tracker after the heroine …. that was violent and known to be a violent species and they did this to lash out (this said by the heroines father) and did not care that she could get hurt or even be killed. The heroines father many many years later came to “warn” the heroine about this unhinged tracker and to manipulate/coerce the heroine to come “home” again…. And the heroines father did nothing to help stop the unhinged tracker or to help the heroines friends stop him. And the way that entire situation with her father/family played out was just not believable or good even for this genre. She also had her found family so why would she want anything to do with her parents? and the heroines father really was more or less still the same kind of person he always was… and there was no real apology and he did really not make any amends/atonement for what he and her mother did…. So then she is all good with her father after all that shit she went through … and that they caused and the way they treated her…. Just weird.🤔🤨
The heroes father was also a jerk.
The character description of both main characters were a little vague…. Especially about the hero...Yes the reader is told that he is shorter than the heroine but how much shorter etc. And other than that how is he built ? Slender? Muscular ? Etc. etc. And the heroine is described as powerful/sturdy and strong and muscular …. and tall etc. But it is written in a rather vague way … It would have been nice with a little more details.
A Farewell to Charms is the finale in the "Mystic Bayou" series. Now I am not sure this is the last book or if Molly Harper will have a connecting series because I want to know what happens to some of the characters as not everything was wrapped up fully, so I am curious if there is more to come or not. But I finally caught up and I absolutely adored this book and this whole series. There is something so precious about these books that immediately pull you into the story and the charm of this small town and the unique mix of characters that have various types of personalities.
I found the romance here to be so different but still fun. I really liked the heroine being a unique shfiter. I really enjoy that this author handles some unique set ups as the heroine is a gnome haha It was so different and I really enjoyed it.
Overall I found this to be an endearing read that just turned out to be a charming finale to a superb series that wormed its way into my heart!
Honestly I felt zero chemistry between the characters. I almost felt bad for Eve because it felt like any woman who helped him fix his car that day, he would have fixated on. They’ve been living in the same town, but he only looked at her then.
Second, major plot hole. The opening of chapter 9, Alex said he didn’t know how he ended up moving into Eva house. At the end of ch12, she’s moving out of Alex’s place. Yet, they were living in hers???? Then toward the end of the book he says he doesn’t want to presume anything and just move in with her. (But that happened in ch9). Then a sentence is added later that acknowledges they previously lived at her place. It was a hot mess. The only reason it was added that Eve was moving out of his place without mention that they lived at her and he would have stuff there is so Eve could have a dramatic exit and leave him. But yeah… major plot hole as a plot device. Ugh.
The last chapter was the only interesting one and had the lol moments that made me a MH fan. Outside of that, this was a big miss for me. Thank god I didn’t pay for this one. I was looking for a light read, but even as short as it was, it was tough to get through.
Despite the average ratings I’ve given all the books, it’s an interesting concept, town and characters that keep me coming back. Personally, I long for more of MH shifter series she abandoned.
I am going to miss visiting Mystic Bayou. I love this town and its residence. Thankfully, A Farewell to Charms delivered everything I love about this series. Harper sprinkles it with adorkable romance, a touch of suspense, friendship and magic.
Eva Boudreaux lives in the swamp near her boss and loves her job as a boat mechanic. She is 6 ft, super strong and blonde with plenty of curves and a big fat secret. One not even her closest friends in the bayou know about. After helping Alex Lancaster with car trouble, she is alarmed when the sexy League member tells her he checked into her background, and things don’t add up. He wants to know who she really is. Oh boy, did Alex tell her he looked her up because he was interested in her… nope. It was all kinds of awkward.
I was angry with Alex and felt bad for Eva, especially after she confessed. I wasn’t pleased with her behavior (towards the end). However, that didn’t stop me from cheering for them. I glady road the roller coaster of emotions, including laughter and squeals of delight. This adorkable romance was filled with gooey cuteness, awkward moments, miscommunication and everything from sweet to steamy.
While not my favorite of the series, I love the camaraderie between the friends and how they rallied for our couple. And while I knew we’d get an HEA, outside forces, one stubborn gal and baggage on both sides kept me listening and crossing my fingers.
While each audio in the Mystic Bayou series contains one HEA, I recommend listening in order for the friendships, town and general awesomeness of the overall ARC. If you enjoy paranormal romance, unique characters, small-towns and plenty of humor and talk of pies….lots of yummy pies, you’ll want to listen!
Amanda Ronconi and Jonathan Davis narrated and captured the couples’ and their points of view perfectly. I love Ronconi and Davis is enjoyable as the male narrative. I highly recommend listening to this series.
Noooooooo! I dont want this series to end!!!!! I loved it so Much
Johnathan Davies does a fabulous southern accent (He is the Ultimate voice for Zed)
Sobbing.... Im just going to Have to reread these all again.
👩🔧 Eva is a sexy Gnome thats good with a wrench, that Comes from a mining family like dwarves in the Hobbit!
👩🔧 Alex is the Suit everyone tiptoes Around....
👩🔧 I loved How Eva was the one in the trousers during the courtship.... And i loved Alex in this too not bothered by being emasculated (when she carried him over her shoulder to the bedroom i snorted my coffee!
👩🔧 Going to Miss the Gang.... was such a great read such a great community and amazing friendships, would give Zed My forehead anyday!
My least favourite Mystic Bayou book of them all. I didn't much care for Eve or Alex and I felt no chemistry between them. I found their romance weak and they lacked depth. The book was, honestly put, boring. It was fine on audio but in a book I would have skimmed for sure.
Gnomes and Hell Hounds! Love It!!! I hate Alex who's never been my favorite character had his feelings hurt. Yet, this was my favorite book in this series! I hope it isn't over....I loved it!

A paranormal romance full of suspense and humor will have you listening with glee! A variety of shapeshifters, humans, gnomes, leprechauns, nymphs and so much more all combined to make one great town and an even greater chosen family. Toss in a pissed off hell hound and hilarity is sure to ensue! I have seriously enjoyed this series and hope there will be more coming from this series! The romance is fun and sweet in this one and the bedroom aerobics are light for those who are a bit more conservative in their romance reading. Although I do recommend listening to the entire series to get to know the characters better and see how the town develops and the romance is a bit spicier in some of the other books, but again should be tolerable by those who need a bit more mellow scene descriptions while making up for it with quality humor!
I just loved this fun series and I am sad to see it come to an end. I think Molly Harper closed it well, with a nice conclusion. The residents of Mystic Bayou are really pretty dang cool.
I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series.
Media Type: Audiobook Source: AudiblePlus Dates Read: 1/27/22 - 1/29/22 Stars: 4 Stars Narrator(s):Amanda Ronconi and Jonathan Davis
The Characters:
Eva Boudreaux: Alex Lancaster: Pretty sure everyone in town makes an appearance.
The Story:
Eva Boudreaux is a new majee recently settled in Mystic Falls. Alex Lancaster is a human who works for The League whose main goal is helping the town deal with their population boom after informing the world of its existence. An deserted road mishap brings them together after much hesitation on both sides. These two work well together. I’m glad they were able to expose their secrets to one another and build everlasting trust. I would have loved to see Alex’s nightmare of both sets of parents visiting at the same time but alas I will have to use my imagination.
I can’t believe this is the end of this series. I’ve loved this town since book one and I will miss them dearly.
If this is the series ender, then it’s a good one. I liked that Eva is the more physically imposing of the pairing with Alex. I loved the continued theme of found family. And I absolutely adore the group scenes particularly that Avengers-like rescue near the end.
I’ve enjoyed this series. It’s fun and funny with distinct characters having unique personalities. Fantastic narration. I especially loved Jonathan’s voice for Zed and Amanda’s for Ingrid.
I’m so sad it’s over! This series is exactly what I always need: a fun cheesy found family adventure. I’ve never wanted to be part of a group as much as this.
Mystic Bayou's newest mechanic, Eva Boudreaux, has worked hard to keep her true nature and troubling past a secret, but a chance encounter with the League's managing director in town, Alex Lancaster, arouses more than his curiosity. As their mild flirtation develops into something deeper, Eva's past threatens to destroy both their romance and their lives.
This final installment contains all of the elements that have made the series such a delight - quirky characters, hilarious dialogue, a sweet romance, and an intriguing suspense plot.
Of these, the romance is the weakest aspect. While Eva and Alex are cute together, their opposites attract relationship is underdeveloped, and all conflicts are resolved very quickly, with everything forgiven and forgotten far too easily.
The stalker plot has tremendous potential to ratchet up the tension, yet it, too, fizzles quite rapidly once the villain and motive are revealed. The climax has its intense moments, but all is once again resolved quickly with a minimum of fuss. Even the revelation of Eva's identity is rather meh - she's a - gasp - . And so?
It is also disappointing that there is no closure to a couple of threads, namely Alex's and Eva's
Overall, this is not the best installment, but the series itself is well worth reading for the highly amusing characters, especially Bael and Zed. The audiobook narration is an added bonus. Amanda Ronconi and Jonathan Davis are fantastic.
Seriously, where else can you find a Phoenix, a Dragon, a Grizzly Bear, a Gnome, a Merman……just for starters (and I just know that I’ve forgotten more characters than I’ve written down)…..living together in this crazy, crazy hilarious community?
I have fallen in love with each of these couples during this wonderful and unique series. (Some more than others.....)
One thing I can say without a doubt. This series has been a delight and most definitely... a winner!!!!!
I loved this series and this weird little town and these interesting magical beings ... I am sad to see this come to an albeit satisfying end. I will be interested to see where Harper takes her magical writings next!

A good point to end the series, as it got a bit repetitive, although I will miss the sense of humor and nerdy Jillian. 🥲 I am disappointed that their life in Mystic Bayou will be quite homey and boring - I don't want them to be stuck. 🥹 At every possible opportunity the books say quite on the nose (I roll my eyes but accept that it is for contrast because of historical reasons) that the women are all so capable and high performing, but suddenly they are all content in a small town having families? All of them? Oh well, books and series need closure, I guess... However, lovely last couple to end the running gag and as always fantastic narrators.
This was my least favorite Mystic Bayou novel to date. Alex's actions in the beginning really squicked me out, and then Eva acted like an idiot toward the end of the novel. I enjoyed seeing some of my favorite people from previous books and I liked that gender reversal (Eva is stronger than Alex, who is a mundane human), which is why I gave it 2 stars, but there wasn't a whole lot else to recommend it.
This felt like the end of the series. I'm not sure if Molly Harper plans to continue it or not, but I am sad it went out this way if this is the end.
4.75⭐️ I’m PISSED I ran through these books so fast and that this is the last book in the series, but I am proud of Molly for going out with a bang 😉. Diversity for the tall bisexual girlies 10:10. Love to see it. Only thing I wish I’d that we got to see the lightning bear baby! Aside from that this book was adorable and heart warming.
