The highly anticipated and thrilling sequel to The Killing Plot.

Snatched from exile and certain death, Arela finds herself trapped with the people she’s been raised to renounce – a band of revolutionaries determined to topple Osiris’s dictator. She didn’t ask to be saved and she’s desperate to escape from her captors, but they won’t let her leave – they see her as a symbol of their rebellion and their secret weapon.

All Arela wants to do is rescue her friends from a lunatic and murderer – a man willing to sacrifice anything in his quest for unbridled power. But first she needs to control her strange power and unravel the mystery of her missing parents.

As she navigates her new world, danger lurks around every corner, and she soon finds herself fighting for her life, even as she’s drawn to the one person she should avoid, someone with the power to betray her.

Arela has important decisions to make. Decisions that will decide the fate of an entire people. Should she support the revolutionaries? Can she risk everything to save her friends? And who is she meant to love? The boy she was forced to leave behind or the one who knows all her secrets?

The Rising is the action-packed and intense second book in The Resolutionists Rising series by Tahnee Perry. I’m a big fan of dystopian literature, and The Rising did not disappoint. With dynamic characters, an immersive setting and plot, high-stakes action and intrigue, nail-biting suspense, and a wonderful romance, there’s a lot to love about the book. Plus, that ending!!!!

Arela’s character arc is wonderful. I love that she goes through so many emotions as she deals with everything. The trauma, the survivor’s guilt, her mixed feelings about her two love interests, her conflicted feelings about the factions, and her frustration over being unable to get to her friends all weigh heavily on Arela. She also learns more about her past and her parents and needs to work on harnessing her power. Arela’s journey is rife with challenges and obstacles, and her life is in constant danger from known enemies and new adversaries. All of this makes for such a layered, intriguing, and fast-paced read.

In addition to Arela, there are so many other great characters, both old and new. Arela is befriended by several people who make her transition a bit easier. One of my favorite characters is a younger girl who proves to be wise beyond her years and the most welcoming and supportive of allies. She and Arela teach each other many things over the course of their friendship, and I think they have such a positive influence on each other. Arela’s friends from the first book continue to be strong motivations for her, and they too have significant and compelling stories.

Harlow is another favorite of mine, and I love the connection he develops with Arela. There is a bit of a love triangle, which I don’t ordinarily love, but in this book, it works. Though I definitely have a favorite (Yes, it’s Harlow!!), I can easily understand why Arela is attracted to these very different people, and I’m curious to see how these relationships progress, especially after what happened in this book! That being said, some of my favorite parts of the story are the scenes with Arela and Harlow together. The dancing scene, the scene where he gives her warmth, when they hang out in his room – they are all such wonderful and tender moments that really show how close the pair becomes. Each relationship has its obstacles, and Arela struggles with her changing feelings about these men, their conflicting beliefs, and more.

This book focuses more on the underground and the Resolutionists, which I really liked. Between this book and the first, you get a great view of both groups and can see why they are at war. They contrast each other in many ways, and in this one, they really clash. After being rescued by the Resolutionists, Arela is pressured to join their fight. However, she struggles to choose a side and is more interested in finding peaceful solutions to the ever-growing conflicts. Arela is one of the few who sees things from both sides. She realizes that neither faction is thoroughly good or thoroughly evil that there are forces of even greater danger for all of them.

If you like books like The Hunger Games or Divergent, you’ll enjoy this series! The dystopian elements and world-building are immersive and intriguing, the characters are layered and compelling, and the story will keep you at the edge of your seat. There are so many twists and turns and heart-stopping, heartbreaking scenes, and after that major cliffhanger, I’m dying to read the third book!!!

What a riveting, fast paced, action packed sequel to The Killing Plot!

Arela is trapped underground with the Resolutionists (rebels) and being forced to somewhat integrate into their habits and ways as she seeks a way back up top, into the city of Osiris, to confront her true enemy and find her missing friends.

So much happens in this second installment! And what's this?! We have a love triangle being thrown into the mix and I am absolutely here for it!

Just when I started to get comfortable with where things were headed in this narrative, there's a huge curveball thrown and we won't even talk about my heart being left on the floor and the cliffhanger ending!

I adore so many characters in this series and my favorites have actually shifted (Harlow, I'm looking at you and Bastet...with her double swords) now that I have finished reading this second novel! Isn't it funny how your favorite characters can change as you read a series sometimes? I like that!

This was truly so brilliant and I loved the development of Arela's powers, a few twists in the development of the powers in this tale, the use of science/physics and how everything works...it is really fascinating!

If you like the found family and political intrigue tropes, this series has both. It is wonderfully unique and I highly recommend it if you enjoy YA dystopian stories with incredible sci-fi elements!

I want to thank Tahnee Perry for gifting me a copy of this book with no obligations to read it. This review is my honest opinion.

This was a very solid sequel! I really loved the character development we saw in this book, especially watching Arela begin to come into her power. There's so much more to her by the end of this book than at the beginning of the first, I feel really proud of her. The first 150 pages of this book felt slow, but it was also introducing us to a lot of new things. I loved meeting Lindel, a disabled character with two moms! Once again super happy to see representation in this book. I cannot wait for book three and want to give a big thank you to the author for a free copy. I cannot wait for the third book.

I’m still loving the story. Arela's hubris really is something…! I see a love triangle setting up with the boys but I think I see how it’s going to play out.

The overall pace, felt good, it didn’t feel like it was too slow or too fast. The way that the new characters were introduced was good, especially with Rani and having that connection at the end. Or the mysterious Bastet and Simon having a son…

I got the opportunity to read this book as an ARC and really really loved it. It was a great sequel to the first.

Arela has been captured by the Underground of Osiris, and is being asked to be the leader of the Revolution. There is a lot going on here...Arela does not want to be a uniformed member of the revolution. She wants only to save her friends. She is still trying to solve the mystery of her parents. She has a mysterious power that she is trying to figure out. There are two boys in her life and she needs to decide which world she fits in better. I don't want to give too much of the plot away, but all of it is exciting, unputdownable, and a fantastic fast paced action-adventure dystopian novel.

From the excellent prologue, which sucked me in right away and got me so excited to read the rest of the book, I was hooked. I loved all of it. There are many moving parts to this book, all of which are explored beautifully and thoroughly. I loved the world building, the politics, the characters. It is a welcome addition to the dystopian genre, and was just so much fun to read. I think Tahnee Perry has an amazing and exciting career ahead of her...and I cannot wait to see what else she's got for us up her sleeve.

I'm definitely recommending this series at our library and at schools. I know my teens will love it as much as I do!

Great for fans of the Hunger Games and Divergent. Grades 7+.

Arela is back, with more mysteries from the land of Osiris. Coming back from the edge of Exile cliffhanger of Book 1, this book delves literally into the depths of human survival.
We meet some very strong characters and see layers to the ones we know. What more.. We find out more about who Arela is.. Both as in her parentage and as to who she is. This self finding journey she started in Book 1 has now become a mission of survival and perseverance.

Can't wait for the next installment ❤❤❤

Absolutely brilliant! The Rising will keep you on the edge of your seat as you follow Arela on her crazy adventures through Osiris. This time she finds herself in the Underground surrounded by revolutionaries. I loved reading about her struggle against the political factions, her new and mysterious power and of course, the amazing romance with the hunky Harlow. I couldn't get enough of them. I'm just mad I have to wait until next year to read the next book in the series - it can't come soon enough!

You know how after a stunning debut, many authors mess up the sequel... Not Tahnee though... This book begins just about where the last one ended on a cliff hanger...

Arela wakes up underground, among the Resolutionists... and reluctantly learns to live in that niche, constantly waiting for a chance to escape...

The spark (pun intended) between Harlow and Arela was something that I loved in this book...

As (by now) expected... there's not a dull moment in the story, which ended in another cliff hanger somehow worse than the previous one...

Tahnee, I'm going to be badgering you for the next book...

A dangerous and exciting read with fantastic world building and enjoyably complex character development.
The overall story was gripping and kept me turning pages however some more character building would’ve been good.
As a whole I really enjoyed this title and would recommend for those who enjoy action, danger and a bit of mystery!

4 jamming stars 🌟

With so much action and short chapters, I have ran through the pages every time I sat down to read this book. I liked newly introduced characters and Harlow being my favorite among them with the way he balanced out Arela’s edges, naivety and how he was always ready to go the extra mile to save the day.

Another cliffhanger ? I thought we had the agreement after book 1 🥴 All the joke aside, I think this was a perfect ending for book 2 and book 3 is promising a very powerful start. Cannot wait to read the conclusion of the story 💙

This book is a delightful new twist on the classic dystopian YA fiction. In this second book in the Rising Resolution trilogy, young Arela has been rescued by the Resolutionists, the very people responsible for the death of one of her dearest friends and the same people she has been taught to hate and fear. Yet, almost against her will, Arela becomes part of their community. She learns what a world without the extreme control of the Osirian government could be. She makes new friends and gets a glimpse of the family life she never had. She also experiments with her newly discovered, confusing power and learns how to use it. As Arela tries to figure out where her loyalties lie, she also has to find a way to rescue her friends who are still trapped by the sinister Thaddeus Grant. Along the way she survives an attempt on her life, falls in love (again) and makes a terrifying discovery that has implications for both the Conservationists and Resolutionists.

I really enjoyed the setting and carefully thought out world. A whole new dimension is added in the discovery that the Underground exists. I also really enjoyed Arela's growth in this second book. She has to learn a few harsh lessons but she comes out more mature. I was intrigued by the new information about her missing parents and her background and eager to find out more. There is also a new depth to her relationships with her friends as they navigate their grief and trauma together. While I am not personally a fan of the usual love triangle, I still found myself rooting for my favorite guy and willing Arela to choose him.

All in all, I am really glad that I discovered these books. I think that the author has done a wonderful job on bringing a fresh breath to this genre and she kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through (I literally read it in a day)! I am eagerly hoping and waiting for the next book.

When I started reading this I didn’t realize it was actually a sequel, so was fairly confused for a lot of it, until I clued in that I was missing some pretty big events that took place in the first book. However I still enjoyed this story greatly, enough that I went back and read the first one. I love dystopian stories so this was right up my alley. I loved how immersive the author made this world, how intense it was from beginning to end (though a few times I needed to take a breather so as not to feel overwhelmed), the relationships (both platonic and romantic) were well written & flowed well without any of them feeling forced. I really loved Arela and felt a lot of empathy for the things she went through, her character development throughout her journey was well thought out and enriched the layers of the story. Showing how in war there isn’t necessarily a right and wrong side when everyone thinks they’re fighting for the right thing, and the moral implications of picking sides was cleverly written and reverberates with many wars in the real world. The world building was great, the character development on point and there were enough twists and turns for me to want to plow through this book in hopes of answers. Be warned, this leaves on a massive cliffhanger which will have you feeling a bit of despair if you’re anything like me lol! I absolutely love the cover (it’s what drew me to the book in the first place, I’m such a sucker for a great cover) and loved how unique this take on a dystopian future was. Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I think this a refreshingly unique take in the YA dystopia genre - it made me think of a few elements from other YA dystopia/utopia books I've enjoyed - but they were spun together in new and interesting ways that made it stand out.

Despite not reading book one, I felt interested and connected to the main protagonist Arela, without knowing the back story in depth - there are some helpful reintroductions of key characters and their previous roles. That said, I would recommend you read book one - while it's easy to pick up some of the story in the beginning, it becomes a bit harder near the end.

I thought the world building was great. Characters were all complex, flawed, humans, with no one coming out perfect or righteous (though some are much worse than others!) I liked that there was character development and increasing self and social awareness, it's peppered with some interesting side stories, with some mysteries revealed and some mysteries still left to unravel.

Looking forward book three! Thank you to netgalley for this review copy.

Sequel to The Killing Plot, The Rising is the second book in The Rising Resolution series. It’s a dystopian novel with an immersive and captivating plot. The story revolves around wonderful, brave, and rebellious Arela. In the first part, she solves the mystery of disappearing kids from the orphanage in which she lives. In this part, she is trapped with the people she’s been raised to renounce and she wants an escape but there isn’t any. As the story goes forward, she wants to learn more about her past and unfold the secrets of her missing parents. Is it going to be that easy? How she will save her friends from the murderer?
The storyline is just amazing. I liked the connection Arela had with her friends. And I enjoyed reading about the bond Arela developed with Harlow. Each character has a distinct and unique personality, and every event is described well. Overall, it was a refreshing read.

T.M. Perry is an amazing storyteller. I wasn’t a fan of dystopian novels until I read her book The Killing Plot and Now, The Rising. The Rising is the continuation of The Killing Plot that follows Arela, an orphan. I won’t go into spoilers but I was intrigued about mystery subplots within this book. The mystery in Arela stumbles during her search kept me glued to my seat. The book comes with several characters. Regarding every event, the character reactions were so well done that I had to stop for a moment while I was reading. There’s also a blooming romance in this part, which I found to be adorable. I was flipping pages, curious to see how it will progress.
I enjoyed the dystopian elements in the story which include disenfranchised people, harsh rules and punishments, a fear of the world outside of Osiris, and a lack of individuality. I recommend this book to dystopian book lovers. You are just gonna love it.

The Rising is my second Dystopian tale… I was captivated by the story from the first chapter. It was a long read but totally worth the time and money. What attracted me to this book is its cover and title. Not to mention, I had already read part one which was as amazing as this one. The storyline sucked me into an amazing adventure. The story is filled with mystery, morally grey characters, and you never know who to trust, especially considering how many people manipulate the system for their own personal gain. There are also some supernatural elements in the story that intrigued me. Arela, for example, has a unique power that is exacerbated by emotions. Her power ties into her parentage, her past, and her future. I don’t want to spoil the story for new readers, so I request you to read the book and find out what happens in the story. Happy Reading :)

“The Rising” by T.M. Perry is the second installment in The Rising Resolution series. I read the first part ‘The Killing Plot’ a few months ago and I was so drawn to the story that I couldn’t wait for the next part. I finished reading the second part in three sittings and I must say I’m not disappointed at all. There couldn’t be a better continuation of the first part. It’s a perfect choice for those who love dystopian books.
The book is set in Osiris and our protagonist Arela is a lovesome character. She goes to lengths to save her friends from evil while dealing with trauma, survivor’s guilt, and many such things. The book has many sub-characters each one plays an important role and adds spices to the story. Hats off to the author for writing such a wonderful sequel.

I love reading dystopian books like this. It was fast paced from the very beginning and full of energy. It was great to see the characters develop more and more as the plot progressed. The world building was brilliant . It's gritty and thrilling in the right places but also has moments of fun.

The politics are interesting and the gradual development if new powers keep you engaged and wanting more

I first read the synopsis to book 2 in the series, this book, before I got a chance to delve into the mysterious world Perry brings here. I was intrigued by the premise, and thought it was a fantasy novel at first.
As I got this book for free in exchange for an honest review on netgalley (thank you, by the way), I went ahead and bought book one and read it in one sitting. It was short, but its fast-paced action made it for a complex world-building in a post apocalyptic USA.
Even though I don't normally go for dystopian novels, the last ones I read were The hunger games, the Giver and the Divergent series, the story was just what I needed to break up the fantasy list of books and their tropes I had been eating up for months. It was a bit of fresh air.
I was worried at first that the writing style was going to be meant for younger audiences, and although in parts it does feel that way, the story moves along such dark topics it really pulled me in and made me care for the characters enough to keep reading.
The romantic elements of the story, whilst it did have certain things I normally veer towards in books, was a bit quick for me. That will depend on the reader more than how it was written, however, and it does leave you wonder what will happen in book 3, even if I have my own idea about it.
Overall I gave it 3.5 stars.

This book gave me vibes of Mockingjay (Hunger Games Book 3), and Divergent from the jump. If you like dystopian novels, or factions that are pitted against each other, you will enjoy this action-packed novel.

I hadn’t read the book prior to this one, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying this one! The book starts out with Arela being captured by the Resolutionists after a bombing, and she’s swept away to the Underground, which is an underground society (much like district District 13 in Mockingjay) full of revolutionaries intent on toppling Osiris.

Arela starts off bitter and resentful— hellbent on escaping— but her thoughts/dynamics begin to shift as she gets to know those around her. She finds herself with two goals: rescuing her friends, and wanting to unite the two factions in order to defeat a common enemy. Arepa’s journey is an interesting one, and you can see her struggle to identify who she can trust, and who the actual enemies are. Love is gained and lost in this action-packed novel. Definitely worth a read.

Oh, did I mention she gets powers?

I decided to give this series and an author a second chance. So bear in mind, I already wasn't too impressed by the first book, but it peaked my interest just enough so that I wanted to know what will happen in the continuation.

This sequel read just as fast and nicely as the first book in the series, which is what I mainly liked about it - the pacing and the writing. It was easy to get into, easy to follow, there was always something happening and if it by any chance wasn't, you knew that it will be very soon. The book also still read in the same tone as the prequel - on the younger side of YA, so it surprised me that some aspects of the story were much darker than I expected, considering the general younger tone of the story. I liked the depictions of the trauma different characters went through and the romance sub-plot way okay, not too cheesy. The setting, the atmosphere, the mysteries and all the political intrigue were quite interesting too, albeit quite typical for your average dystopian YA story.

But I found the main character insufferable in the first book already - so naive and reckless. She grew a little bit in this book but definitely not enough for me to start liking her. I still can't get over how she can hack into all kinds of devices and systems, not with her superpowers, but her sheer outstanding skill. I just couldn't help but roll my eyes at her hacking scenes. And her escape scenes. Oh, the lack of planning. Oh, the sheer luck she had, but still considered herself a genius instead of just lucky. The plot was fast and action packed, but mostly just really unbelievable and I predicted quite a good portion of it. Secondary characters felt flat, underdeveloped, and I didn't really care about most of them at all, and therefore I couldn't really be invested in the plot and story as a whole.

The ending really upset me because the book ends on a horrible cliffhanger. So I am kind of frustrated that even though I generally dislike the book I still want to continue with the series just to find out what happens in the end.

(I received an ARC of this book through NetGalley.)
