She belongs to my best friend...but that won't stop me from making her mine.

I want a girl I can't have.
She's my tutor.
My best friend's girlfriend.
And my kryptonite.
She also looks really good in my T-shirt.

But she wants the golden boy, and I'm more of the villain type.
Or at least I was....
Until I saw her smile for the first time.

But the good guy she wants wouldn't lust after his friend's girlfriend.
And the good guy she's with sure as hell shouldn't be sneaking around behind her back.

So where does that leave me?

Kelsie is a sucker for a love story with all the feels. When she's not chasing words for her next book, you will probably find her reading or, more likely, hanging out with her husband and playing with her three kiddos who love to drive her crazy.

She adores photography, baking, her yorkie, Bob, and her devon rex, Mara. And now that she's actively pursuing her writing dreams, she's set her sights on someday finding the self-discipline to not binge-watch an entire series on Netflix in one sitting.

3 ⭐️ just for my bby Colton 😘

This was one of my most anticipated reads for this year. I was waiting for this book since the moment Kelsie rae gave us a snippet of the first few chapters on tiktok. The sexy brooding roommate and the saliva exchange orange-juice scene was enough to forget my todo list and tackle this book. Now that I’ve finally read it, I have some thoughts.

Plot

Ashlyn is a college student and is described as a good girl and loyal 😌 . She has been in a relationship with her current boyfriend Logan since the beginning of college (so years) and he is anything but loyal 🙄 . Enters Colton Thorne 🤤 , Logan and Theo(their other friend)’s buddy from high school and amazing hockey player who got kicked out of his last college due to a scandal. All 3 live in the same house and Colton takes a liking to Ashlyn but knows shes off limits 🛑 being shes his friends girlfriend. However circumstances occur that put them in situations together and they have too much sexual chemistry to deny.

🛑 🛑 🛑 SPOILERS AHEAD 🛑 🛑 🛑

✨Scenes i appreciated ✨

I am here to save your precious time, so feel free to read the spoilers.

I was excited to read this book because I followed the author on tiktok and accompanied some of the writing process. But I am extremely disappointed with the outcome. It has every trope I despise: not like other girls; slut shaming; love at first sight (kind of was); mention of social media (hemhem tiktok) and very messy plot line.

DO NOT READ THIS BOOK… unless you enjoy torture, which seems concerning but I don’t judge.

In all seriousness I only finished this book because I’m petty and at some point it turns into a competition between me and the book.

— Spoilers—

The first red flag was when the main character was described as “she’s different”. Now you would think she is actually DIFFERENT. Like she has a unique characteristic. But of course not. They said, and I quote “Gorgeous, though she has no idea. Smart. She takes time to tutor other students without making them feel stupid for it. And Loyal as shit. (…)”. “She’s not like other girls. She’s too sweet. Too innocent to understand the kind of guy she’s getting with Logan.” She is blonde and has blue eyes. So she’s like every other girl on earth. But not in this story, no. In this story Ash, who by the way is bloody annoying, is a Saint (spoiler she isn’t) and the other girls are basically wh*ores (words of the book not mine). And this is because they’re puck bunnies who enjoy spending their weekend partying instead of tutoring an incompetent ass man. I thought the 2014 wattpad phase was gone but apparently not.

There is also a bit of hypocrisy in relation to cheating rules, IN MY OPINION. Logan of course is an asshole. This man can go sleep on a dumpster. But Ash isn’t so innocent as well. She clearly had her eye set on Colt from the very beginning. She was with Logan and just thinking about Colt. Colt. Thorne. Mind you she even orgasmed thinking about him. She just couldn’t stop thinking about him, could she? She even gets jealous of Colt while in a relationship with Logan. This goes on for Merlin knows how long, and I believe it to be sort of emotional cheating. She claims she’s not a cheater because she didn’t physically cheat. Each to their own, I suppose.

In addition to my strong dislike of the MC, Colt Thorne deserves a special mention. He might be hot on his looks but his actions and his manner of speaking tells me otherwise. He only think with his dick. I am not joking. His dick is pretty much always hard, and always wants to have sex. It is a constant theme. He also presents aggressive behaviour at times, and I find his way of talking about girls and woman is very objectifying. A few excerpts from the book, and this is just within the first 100 pages (this book has 400+): “making my cock harder than ever beneath the kitchen table in her boyfriend’s house”; “He hits on anything with boobs”; “She’s cute in a sex kitten kind of way”; “The girl screams broken wet dream with a side of daddy issues louder than a siren”; “I’m hard”. I could go on. Is this supposed to be hot? I find this disturbing and made me want to commit a crime. But wait! Freaking Colt Thorne is the man of any women’s dreams. Because he keeps these things to himself, or only says it to his mates, he doesn’t cheat, and he is a self confessed gentleman. He really isn’t. He doesn’t even do the bare minimum… the bar is in hell.
Oh, almost forgot, that he knew Ash was being cheated on and he decided to just flirt with her and instead of being a gentleman and telling her, he did nothing because “bros before h*es”. He only threatened Logan when he couldn’t hold his dick any longer and just had to get into Ash’s pants.

Every character is extremely irritating. They all speak the same way. Common terms; “Fuck”; “Shit”; “Freaking”; “Hell”; or any similar variation of this words. They all have some sort of family issues. I recommend therapy. The guys are all hockey boys who objectify women, and party, and are possessive. Is this a disease that runs through hockey boys? And the three/ four main girls are different from every other girl in college because they don’t want to just have sex with them. I don’t know what’s redder… a red flag or all of them.
I feel like we also didn’t get a clear foundation of ash’s and Logan’s relationship. We knew Logan was cheating because of the dual POV and it was easy to guess from his excuses of “work meetings”, but it went from “we’ve been in a very happy relationship since first year” to “this relationship isn’t working” (and this was only because she had tension with Colt) to “Logan has always been a terrible boyfriend”. Just found it a bit confusing. Again, Logan is in fact an arse. No discussion obviously.

The writing is terrible. I’ve read better wattpad books. Colt and Ash got together way to quickly. The last half of the book was just them having an existential crisis every chapter. It dragged on and on and on, and I was thinking that there would be no end to this dark hole.

Seriously, save your mental health.

DNF: 7%

i can't. this is SO incredibly cliche and poorly done.

the FL is the epitome of ~not like other girls~. i can't put into words how cringy it is, so let me just slap a direct quote from this abomination in here:

“You’ll have to ask her [the FL] yourself. But be careful. Like I said. She's different.”
“Different, how?”
“Gorgeous, though she has no idea. Smart. She takes the time to tutor other students without making them feel stupid for it. And loyal as shit. Logan might not care if you talk to her ‘cause he knows you’d never do anything, and you like to be an ass. But, Ash? She’ll let you know you’re barking up the wrong tree if she doesn’t like your attention.”

like, what? the implication that the FL is some special unicorn just because she's smart and pretty is mind boggling (has this author ever met another woman in her life?), but whatever. what's WORSE is the constant dichotomy between the FL and the "puck bunnies." like, yes, let's look down on women for their sex lives! love that! (note the sarcasm).

i know that this is a fictional book and not necessarily representative of the author's own views, and i know that men talk about women like this in real life, but it's still irritating. i doubt that ANYONE reading a romance book like this is doing so for their daily dose of realistic misogyny.

i'd just love to see a college sports romance where the ML's POV DOESN'T make me want to hurl from how misogynistic it is, and where the FL isn't depicted as some special unicorn of a character just because she doesn't have sex. can we STOP correlating one's worth with their sexual promiscuity?

the writing itself was also not great (as you can likely tell from the quote above) and the characters were boring. seriously, spare yourself the time and effort of reading this—i'm 100% sure you can find better stories written by middle schoolers on wattpad.

***THIS IS MY OWN PERSONAL OPINION!!***
Even though I have not enjoyed this book, I am not bashing on anyone else who enjoyed it. Please don’t read this if you’ll take it personally/get offended.

——— ——— ———

the tik toks I saw about this book had me so excited to read it that I pre-ordered it, but I was so disappointed when reading it. I honestly wanted to DNF, but wanted to know how it would end so I basically just skimmed and read the dialogue for the last third of the book.

——

things that bothered me about this book:

1. Ashlyn is super annoying. From the beginning, she’s basically admitting that there’s no spark/connection with Logan anymore, and she feels more for Colt in the first two moments she speaks to him than she ever did for Logan in their years long relationship. Also, she’s completely ignoring the red flags, but still wants to make it work with Logan because she prides herself on being loyal. Like just break up with him, you’re not emotionally invested in him. (Also her thinking about Colt while having sex with Logan… emotional cheating right there).

2. Hated that none of the boys (specifically colt and Theo) went up to Logan and told him not to be a cheater? Like he’s being an asshole and cheater, but colt and Theo are completely fine with letting him do that? Especially colt who was cheated on?? And they’re calling Logan their best friend??? I know if one of my best friends were a cheater, I would call them out on that shit. It also pissed me off that Colt was calling Logan one of his best friends, yet was purposely messing around with his “best friend’s” girlfriend (and there weren’t any scenes that made them seem like best friends at all).

3. Ash kept getting angry that colt was FAKE dating her best friend to help protect Mia from the abusive ex-bf. Yet mia told Ash that if she wanted to date colt she just had to say so and Mia would end the fake relationship? Like it’s your fault that you don’t want to be publicly dating him so why are you getting angry about a FAKE relationship that you know about???

After that, I just started skimming the book, so don’t feel like commenting on the rest, but overall just very disappointed with it and the characters frustrated me a lot.

”Say you’re mine, and I’ll give you whatever you want until you’re sick of me. Say you’re mine, and I’ll treat you like a queen.”

Don’t Let Me Fall
is a best friend’s girl hockey sports romance with so so much potential. The book follows Ashlyn, a hardworking college student whose boyfriend is a complete scumbag. He’s cheating on her with girls left and right, lying to her, and gaslighting her. Colt, the mmc, recently transferred to her school and has a friendship history with Ash’s boyfriend. The book essentially follows the two of them as they navigate their feelings and friend group while Ash is with her ex.

I really wish I liked this more. I’ve read a few best friend’s girl romances now and I know that the angst and tension can be absolutely amazing, but this really fell flat once they got together. Ash’s naivety was so frustrating. He ex was a monster. Colt was really the best part of this book, except for the fact that he kept saying “I’m a gentleman” every chapter. SHOW me, don’t keep telling me.

There isn’t any miscommunication or third act breakup, which I LOVED. But there wasn’t any plot. The climax was the very end of the book, and we didn’t get any resolution or epilogue. I felt like it just ended. I wanted more from this book.

PS there’s no cheating (for the mcs) and very low steam.

bsfs i’m deeply sorry rn i hate to be the one to deliver bad news 😖

i know everyone had high expectations for this book (me included) but i’ll have to bring everyone down to earth for a second (me included part two) since it was (say it, you can do it, maya) mid 😩

like it was kind of boring sometimes (and i swear i’m not a toxic person who hates healthy couples or a reader that only enjoys dark romance) 😭 their story simply made me fcking sleepy yesterday (what a disaster! an obscenity! a profanity! a calamity!) pls this isn’t sleep hygiene 101 for dummies i wanted to pull an all nighter not get into coma bfr

ugh and the worst part is that there’s nothing particularly wrong with this book: the writing doesn’t suck, the characters aren’t unbearable or dumb and the plot isn’t hideous but…something was missing alright 🥺 that special ingredient that make us all giggle during a soft romance reading? it wasn’t there unfortunately

but i promise to write a review about this one so i’m able to explain my motives in a detailed way 👼🏻🤞🏼 rtc

🥕˖⸂ ⟡ ˖ 𓈒꙳🐰𓂃𓈒𓏸 pre-reading ˖⸂ ⟡ ˖ 𓈒꙳🥕𓂃𓈒𓏸

entering my soft romance girly era 👼🏻❤️‍🩹💌 the birds are singing and the bees are humming

the dark romance core was truly something special we shared this beautiful and lovely connection together but it’s time for some world healing and mental rest now 🍓🐇💋

ngl it was between that or watching pride and prejudice for the hundredth time but then i came to the conclusion that i could do both 😚❤️‍🔥 multitasking girlie yk

Hated the words "puck-bunnies" and "va-jay-jay".
Ash is one of the most annoying MCs I’ve ever read and the plot relied on too many stupid and unnecessary fights to keep going. Read it one day ago and can’t remember most of it. Forgettable.

Don't fall in love with a woman that reads. A woman who feels too much. A woman who writes.
Don't fall in love with an educated, delirious, crazy woman . Don't fall in love with a woman who thinks, who knows what she knows, a woman sure of herself, and also knows how to fly. Don't fall in love with a woman who laughs or cries making love, who knows how to turn her spirit into flesh, let alone one that loves poetry, these are the most dangerous ones, or spends half an hour contemplating a painting, and isn't able to live without music, not even with a woman that is gorgeous, in spite of her face or her body. Don't wish to fall in love with a woman like that. Because when you fall in love with a woman like that, whether she stays with you or not, whether she loves you or not, from a woman like that you never come back.

a hockey romance but you don’t go to a game until the epilogue or see them practice.

it’s a cute romance and an easy read but if I could describe it in one word it would be undercooked. a lot of brief conversations for very big plot points.

Don't Let Me Fall is a sweet romance about a couple of college students who meet while one is in a committed relationship. They start out with quite a few snarky and tense moments while trying to deny their true feelings for each other. The first half of the book was good and cute and kept me intrigued as to how it would pan out. I really enjoyed reading from Colt's perspective and felt he was much more of developed than Ash's character. Without giving away spoilers, the book took a turn about halfway through. It was an expected turn and yet I was left feeling like the characters weren't being true to who I've actually read about throughout the whole first half. The overall story itself was good and the writing was also really good ... But I felt like there needed to be more development of some of the plot points. It took a 90° turn without much substance... I really did enjoy the book and the characters and I saw what Kelsie Rae was trying to do... I just felt like I needed more depth throughout the ending.

So, I think Kelsie Rae is going to be one of my auto-buy authors. I loved this book with all of my heart. Colt is definitely in my top 3 book boyfriends! The chemistry between the two characters is off the charts and the second I started reading it, I couldn’t stop.
I have had this book pre-ordered since Rae started posting videos on Tik Tok about it and I am so happy to say it’s worth the hype! I 100% recommend this book to anyone who likes forbidden and complicated love that you root for from LITERALLY THE FIRST CHAPTER. Ash is a strong female character and honestly, I want to be invited to live with her and her friends. And COLT! I truly think the only reason he isn’t first on my list is just loyalty at this point. He’s so perfect in literally every way imaginable.
I can’t recommend this book enough! And I am on pins and needles waiting for the next book!

Re-read: I read this book 3 years ago but it needed re-read to refresh my memory as my beautiful book angel, Amy, sent me the remaining books in the series. 😇📚🌟

I loved Ash and Colt’s story the first time round, and this time was no different. This was a thoroughly enjoyable re-read! 📖 💖 🌟

Now, it is time to dive into the rest of the series…

DNF! Not for me!

The fmc has a boyfriend but is practically salivating over a hot guy (our mmc) while she is waiting at a stoplight. Said guy is well aware that she is staring at him and sends her his number via Airdrop, which she accepts, only to delete it a bit later because she reminds herself that she has a boyfriend.

So after reading this..and because the whole vibe felt off, somehow (to me at least)…I went ahead and read some of the 1 star reviews and guess what? Apparently she is thinking about Colt (the hot stranger and mmc) while having sex with her current boyfriend. Now tell me if that is not emotional cheating? If it was the other way around and the guy behaved like that, people would lose their minds, but because the fmc does that and because she wasn’t happy in her current relationship, her behavior is totally acceptable and nothing out of the ordinary. These double standards frustrate me so much!😒

And I know that people will say that it doesn’t matter, that her boyfriend deserved all that because he was a cheating jerk. Which he totally was, no doubt about it, but the thing is, I don’t care about her jerk of a boyfriend!!
I only care about the main characters and expect them to behave a certain way because, again, they are the main characters, the most important part of the book!

If you are not happy in your current relationship, just end it and move on, be with the guy that you really want to be with. Don’t fantasize about him while sleeping with your current partner.😒

Idk you guys…maybe I am too old fashioned for this shit!🙈😂

I don’t think I’ve ever been more disappointed in a book before.
The plot is just a back and forth of a young woman’s confusion about relationships.
There was no real story line.
The story lacked character depth. Yes Colt had a “past” but it was not incorporated into the story well at all.
The beginning of the book consisted of poorly written “tension” between Colt and our Sunshine heroine- who is a “not like other girls” and is beautiful without knowing it.
By the time they got together I didn’t even realise “a couple of months” supposedly passed from the first time they met. Yes, it was THAT uneventful.

The h gets mad and jealous (yet apparently knows she shouldn’t) for a man she knows NOTHING about. When their tutoring session started, they had their first real conversation (without Colt’s continuously smirking) and I thought “yes! We’ll see a bit of their friendship build?”. Nope. Apparently these go from strangers, to strangers in a complicated situation with apparently a lot of chemistry although they haven’t spoken to each other, to screwing around to we’ve always been in love. The END.

Only part of the book I slightly enjoyed was the surprise that Colt is actually a bit of a sweet boyfriend.

Story line 0/5- wish the author didn’t drag the story. She could have focused on the trust issues Ash had after her breakup and try to make a character arch for her. The story felt like the author was running to the finish line and trying to tell us how in love the couple is. Nothing was built up. Nothing.

Drama 5/5- the whole situation is messy. But easily avoidable.
Writing style 2/5- meh
Character arch/redemption- 1/5 it had so much potential that’s why I’m so mad.

All in all, wouldn’t recommend it.

I hate leaving bad reviews and it’s such a shame because I was so looking forward to reading this book but it just wasn’t good it started off ok but just got bad. There was literally no plot except the romance and even that was odd and felt rushed it was all angst for like half the book then they where in love in the next chapter. The characters also just lacked depth I needed more from them they didn’t have much else going on. Felt like a fanfic of Elle Kennedys off campus series.

Ok, it's a 2.75⭐️ for me. IT WASN'T BAD! Don't get me wrong, the writing was great and everything I just don't feel like it was a full three stars. I read this book cause I saw the tiktoks and I totally recommend. I saw a lot of reviews of the mmc in this book being people's new book boyfriend, so either he just didn't do it for or I have way too many high standards and issues to fall for a nice guy (plays the way i loved you by taylor swift) :)
