I have long been a fan of Tiffany and of Michael Taylor. Tiffany's writing is clear and engaging. The world she creates is tactile and familiar. This detective is as real as you or I, in city streets you feel like you know. Like a friend I haven't seen in a while, I've missed him and his partner Alex. SHE brought us right back, only now Michael is a detective sergeant with a team reporting to him.
When a high school senior is shot dead in the middle of sex, Michael ends up with a list of at least six suspects, including the girl the victim was with at the time. Not the best time to be at odds with all the detectives newly assigned to him.
If you are a fan of police procedurals, with good old-fashion detective work, you're going to love SHE. If you love the drama surrounding a cop's life when they're knee-deep in a puzzling case, you will love it even more. If you live for a book that delivers shocking twists even after the crime is solved, this is the book for you.
Engaged me from the start, loved the characters and their interactions. Lots of twists and quiet a few red herrings but nicely paced and realistic. Looking forward to the next in series. If you’re into police procedurals, crime, murder mysteries, or thrillers you will like this.
SHE is the fourth book in Tiffany Christina Lewis’s Michael Taylor Series. I didn’t have the advantage of having read the first three when I picked up this one, but SHE works well as a standalone piece. Yes, I would have had more background on Michael Taylor’s life and loves before with the previous books. That said, Lewis has wrapped enough of Taylor’s backstory into this novel to give readers some idea of how to interpret her main character. In SHE, Lewis has given us a compelling police procedural mystery that builds to a surprising and tense climax.
Taylor has just been promoted to Sergeant, and he now has a group of proven detectives who answer to him. Leading others isn’t easy for Taylor, who’s a perfectionist and not a great communicator. Much of the novel is taken up with Taylor’s leadership problems and angst because his girlfriend (Azlynn Matthews) won’t fully commit to their relationship. Throughout the novel these issues color most of Taylor’s actions and inactions with a broad brush of frustration and anger.
But SHE isn’t a psychological study. At its core, it remains a police procedural and a very tough mystery to solve. Often that mystery takes a backseat to Taylor’s angst and frustration, but we never lose sight of the fact that he is an excellent detective. Lewis’s characters all feel real, sometimes obnoxious, sometimes mean, sometimes crazed, but often relatable and sympathetic.
We pull for Michael Taylor from the outset and we’re with him through all his troubles to the end. Although he claims to be interested in eventually getting another promotion and, with it, a desk job, we secretly hope that never happens.
SHE is a good read that’s tough to shove aside once you get caught up in Michael’s world. I highly recommend it.
I enjoyed this murder mystery. Michael Taylor is a cop who is investigating the murder of a high school student. His witness is not helping. Brittany is promiscuous and doesn't seem to be upset about what happened. The students who knew Chad are keeping things from him and Brittany doesn't change her ways. This story was suspenseful and surprising. It is amazing what some high school students can get up to without their parent's knowledge. I would recommend it. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
An excellent murder mystery that will keep you intrigued. A student is murdered and Michael is on the job again. You feel as if you’re solving the mystery as well.
