I could not turn away from this story! I was totally engrossed in everything that was happening, and you had to be to make sure you didn’t miss a beat. There were times my heart was beating out of my chest, and others where I could barely keep reading from the tears in my eyes. There was love, there was heat, there were so many wonderful moments between friends and pack. It was amazing and brilliant and beautiful and I loved every single part of it <3
I did enjoy Chase’s and Skye’s story. They fit each other like gloves fit hands. I love how they developed their relationship and eventually realised that they were mates. Also the plot was great. What I did not enjoy was the constant repeat of mentioning Chase’s past with his father Blade in his POVs. I understand that it was crucial to build up Chase’s character but to me it felt like a repeat. Otherwise, a great book and series so far! Loved it and definitely recommend!
Dnf @14% When i started this looooongggg a$$ series i simply couldn't put it down...but i feel like I'm reading same thing over and over with just a change of names and looks description... So no thank you i will not finish this...
Non-stop Action is what this story has in store for readers as well as chemistry that cannot be denied even if Chase and Skye don't believe they are fated for one another.
Chase's backstory is one that will pull at your heartstrings, I know it did mine. His father was the former Alpha of the pack and he did some pretty terrible things not only to the pack but to his son as well, this man was cruel beyond what pack members even realize but we all know the love of the perfect person can help you work through the horrors of your past and for Chase that person is Skye.
Skye Jamenson-Anderson is a strong fighter so she protects both the Redwood and Aspen Packs. Skye is an oddity and she thinks her wolf is broken but she doesn't know what she truly is until Chase shows her. The chemistry between Chase and Skye is amazing, I especially loved when he got all growly because she protected him from being hurt in an attack. 😉
HUNTED IN DARKNESS is the second book in the ASPEN PACK Series and I would highly recommend reading this series in the order it has been released because there is a common thread that follows through the stories that has yet to be resolved and you will be missing a big part of the story if you haven't read prior books. That being said this story is based on one couple The Alpha of the Pack Chase and Skye who is part of the Redwood Pack and even though at times throughout the story things don't look good, they do get their HEA.
I would recommend this book to those that enjoy Steamy Paranormal Romances or Fated Mate Romances.
3.5 "evolving shifter world" stars CAR's pack/shifter world is what I needed to get me out of my small town romance/contemporary romance haze.
This is the first I've read in the Aspen pack series, and I tend to jump around among the different pack series (incl. Talon, Tattered Loyalties, Redwood, An Alpha's Path, etc.) that Ryan has created because not of mated couples or tropes interest me. So, though a lot of the books can be read as a stand alone, it is better that the reader knows a little from the previous and early books.
In this one, Aspen pack alpha, Chase, has grown strong and recharged his pack despite the transgressions of his father, the pack's previous alpha, who. And Chase's pack's resurgence comes in the era of merging packs of the west coast, where mates are formed from inter-pack couplings, new powers of old are coming back or newly forming, and shifters are being exposed to the world, inviting danger from vampires and breaking traditional alliances.
The politics are nothing new if you are a PNR reader, and Ryan word-builds pretty decently. The only hangups I have with her shifter lore is that the mating rules are all over the place, loosely based on a fickle goddess and prophesied willy-nilly by different types of seers, sometimes fake seers, and magic. In addition, there's a lot of repetitive language, and the repetitive "rejected mate" "almost missed mate," or impossible mate trope keeps getting used over and over again with many of the books. This makes a reader a bit fatigued because it seems that in this world, mates either have to be near death or experience loss and violence in order to realize their mates, people who are already in their vicinity or who they already have relationships with.
UGH, this is what happens between Chase and his mate, Skye. She is from another pack who is his ally, and Chase does not recognize her as his until it is almost too late (yet, as with some of the other couple, the surprise bonding sometimes yields extreme power, enough for the couple to get some triumph over their current enemy).
In all, the action and the suspense in this series keeps the fatigue at bay, (also, the shifter-spice helps) and for me, it works to take a break and come back to the series and spinoffs periodically, when I need a palate cleanser or when I crave fulfilling a PNR reading mood.
Hunted in Darkness is the second book in the adult paranormal romance series called Aspen Pack by Carrie Ann Ryan. Though this is the second book in the series, it can be read by itself, because each of the books follows a different couple. While I didn't have any trouble picking up and diving into this world, I think I might recommend reading the books in order because you will learn more background on the various packs and the ties and issues between them. Not reading book one didn't hinder my ability to read and enjoy book 2, but I do kind of wish I had read them in order because I can tell there is a plot thread that was continued from the first book and will continue on in the next book. I am going to check out book one very soon because I really enjoyed Hunted in Darkness. I loved the characters and the world, and I can't wait to dive back into it.
Hunted in Darkness is the story of Skye and Chase. Skye is the pack princess of the Redwood Pack, though she hasn't really ever felt like she 100% belongs because she is never really sure where she falls within pack hierarchy. She is good friends with Chase, the newly appointed pack Alpha of the Aspen Pack. The last Alpha- Chase's father, was a bad dude and caused a lot of problems for the packs in the area, and Chase is still dealing with the fallout of all of that. Chase and Skye work great together, but Chase is totally determined to not start anything with Skye. I never really understood his motivations on that front, but it did make for good tension between the two of them, because they were clearly attracted to one another. I really enjoyed them trying to fight there fates so to speak.
Skye and Chase work really well together, which is good because there is a ton of action happening all around them. I really admired that neither one is too shy to jump right in and get their paws dirty. Skye and Chase are both pretty positive that they are not each other's mates, but for me there was no doubt! I loved the two of them together, and their story was great! This is a great series if you are a fan of fated mates, shifter romances and possessive heroes. I can't wait to read the other books in the Aspen Pack series!
Chase was the Alpha of the Aspen Pack but lived in the shadow of Blade, the previous Alpha who had decimated the pack wanting more power. His father. And now he was trying to rebuild with the few that had survived, but he didn't feel worthy. He wasn't there to protect his pack from the horror, but only Audrey knew why.
His father had imprisoned him in a cage for nearly a decade. Torturing him and using him to experiment with his dark magic and forced to watch while he tortured others. Them never knowing he was there. He was determined to rebuild his pack and prove that he wasn't his father.
Chase was on his way back to the den when they stepped out of the shadows surrounding him. The vampires had been expecting him, but how? He didn't have time to shift into his wolf, but he heard a howl and knew help was on its way. He just hoped it arrived in time because he didn't know how long he would last fighting this horde in human form.
Skye was the daughter of the powerful Redwood Pack and had been visiting with her friends in the Aspen Pack when she came across Chase being attacked by the vampires. He may not be her Alpha, but all the shifters needed to join together in order to defeat the vampires that were determined to kill them all.
I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. Although this book can be read as a standalone I suggest that you start this series at the beginning as the characters are recurring and the background story continues even with each book having its own HEA.
This book is action-packed from start to finish. The Aspen Pack is starting over and just getting to truly know the other packs in their alliance as they had been secrets that needed protection because the Aspens weren't just a pack of shifting wolves...they had bear shifters and cat shifters. Shifters that no one knew existed.
This book is full of suspense and danger as vampires who have been hiding their existence until their Master decided to execute his plan to take over the human realm imprisoning all humans and killing everything that stood in their way.
Carrie Ann Ryan brings these characters to life and draws you in as if you were part of the story. The more I read the more I fall in love with these characters. If you want a smoking hot shifter romance, look no further. Highly recommend!
Chase is trying to lead his pack out of the chaos that was the result of his father almost decimating the pack. He is tortured by self doubts and constantly questioning his ability to lead. He knows war is coming with the vampires and he needs to be strong for the upcoming fight.
Skye is a princess in the Redwood pack. She has always felt out of place in the hierarchy with no definite purpose. So she is constantly trying to better herself and help wherever needed. She is training with some of the Aspen Pack so she runs into Chase frequently. When Skye saves him from a vampire attack he is angry because she could have been hurt. When it happens a second time he yells at her in front of the whole pack. She is furious!
When these two finally quit fighting, things get really hot! Skye is in love with Chase and her wolf thinks he is the one. But Chase believes she can’t be his mate, even though he wants her to be, because of a prophecy.
This is a great book, fast moving with lots of action! Don’t miss it!
Always entertaining to delve back into the paranormal world of the Aspen, Redwood, etc. Packs, united to fight their latest foes. Carrie Ann Ryan weaves a wonderful story with just the right amount of drama and romance, keeping you entertained throughout!
This is Skye and Chase’s story. Chase is the Alpha of the Aspen Pack and Skye is a member of the Redwood Pack. Chase is the relatively new Alpha, replacing his cruel father who treated the Aspen pack horribly. Skye is the daughter and granddaughter of strong leaders in the Redwood Pack, and yet she isn’t quite sure where she fits in within her pack. While she’s not too dominant nor submissive, she is a strong fighter protecting her Pack and others (including Aspen Pack) as needed. But she is struggling with what her true role should be.
There is a true spark between Chase and Skye, and as their Packs are creating alliances to fight their common enemies, Skye steps in to help with the fight, drawing Chase’s attention. Although Chase is certain Skye is not his true mate, they begin a relationship that is tested as the attacks on the Aspen Pack intensifies.
This is an engaging, action-packed story both with the romance between Chase and Skye (and great supporting characters!) and the drama of the enemy they must defeat. But at what cost?
This is book 2 in the Aspen Pack series and it could be read as a standalone but I feel like you would be missing out on a lot without reading, at minimum, the first book. I recommend the other interconnected series as well, just because a lot of those characters are seen in this book. And events that have taken place previously happened in those books. With that being said, in this one we get Chase and Skye's story! Skye is the pack princess of the Redwood pack, but she hasn't always felt like she belonged because she doesn't have a set place like her other family members. Chase is the Alpha of the Aspen pack but also the son of a traitor to that pack. He has always felt like he should have been able to do more to help his pack than what he did. Chase and Skye have chemistry but he doesn't believe he deserves her or even a mate, and in his mind-she can't be his mate. Until something forces him to realize that she really is. And now he has to protect her and his pack.
I absolutely loved this story! Chase and his pack have been through horrific things that have left a mark on them. One that most won't even acknowledge is there. But they are so strong in character that they can't help but stand up and keep moving and becoming not only what is needed but what they know is right for all of them. I love how he has struggled with the things his father did but he still does what is necessary and right for his pack and chosen family. Skye is a strong woman who while feeling like she is unconnected still does the things that are needed for others. She has this capacity of caring and empathy all while being strong and kick butt! I loved how she and Chase come together and how their relationship plays out. It's exactly what they both needed in order to realize exactly who they are-not only together but apart as well! The bigger story line has had me sucked in since the beginning, and I can't wait to see how all of that plays out. Along with how it will affect all of the packs, not just the Aspens. I also can't wait to see what happens with the witches!!!
Hunted in Darkness is the second book in the Aspen Pack Series and while this story is a part of an ongoing storyline, I do think it can be read and enjoyed as a standalone. Having not read the first book in this series I can tell you that this book hit the ground running and kept me intrigued the entire time.
Chase and Skye were the fated romance that was never supposed to happen. Skye has a legacy that she must live up to and while Chase is the son of a traitor, he’s the most powerful wolf in his territory. Together Skye and Chase must come together to fight a common enemy, all while exploring the explosive chemistry between them. Forever may not be in the cards for the two of them, but that put things to a stop. As the enemy steps up their game, one bite changes Skye and Chase’s world forever…
Overall, I thought this was a really great read. It captured my interest from the very beginning and I loved the dynamic and chemistry between Chase and Skye. I loved the paranormal elements and fast pace of this story. It kept me on the edge of my seat and left me wanting more. All in all, a fun book to spend my day with.
*I was provided an ARC copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review*
This is such a good series! I really like how this book ties the characters from the first book, as well as other series, all together. The Aspen pack is going to have to join forces with the other packs to fight a common enemy.
(Heartbreakingly Beautiful) Hunted in Darkness is Book 2 in the Aspen Pack series. This is Chase And Skye's story! Skye is the pack princess of the Redwood pack, Chase is the Alpha of the Aspen pack. They are made for each but both have had issues that are holding them back. Their story is about Fated Mates, Dangerous crazy Vampires, Dark Magic, & an Evil Force lurking in the shadows. It's also a story of Loyalty and Love, Heartbreak and Sadness that brought Me to Ugly tears many times! Love this Book so much and can't wait to read what's next.. DefinitelyYour Next 5 ⭐ Read..
I've missed reading PNR so much. I am loving this series so much and cannot wait to get to the next book. Chase and Skye's story is so very good. How they finally realised what they were to each other. The dangers they faced together is what made them stronger. The Aspen pack Alpha met his mate and she has finally found her place.!! Running to get the next book!!
This is book two and it definitely doesn’t disappoint! The author has a way of drawing us into these worlds she creates and we can’t get enough.
Chase and Skye are utter perfection together they both deny wanting each other because of their position in their packs until their desires for one another finally bubble over and they can no longer deny the chemistry.
Always a one click author for me. She never disappoints to deliver a page turner that gives us a HEA.
I hate to admit it but I have never read any of the Redwoods or Talons series so I am starting my journey with The Aspen Pack but as these packs are now interconnected I am learning more of their history all the time. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in the Aspen Pack series and had no problem picking up the story and understanding what had gone before. Since then I have been eagerly awaiting the release of this second book, and let me tell you it was worth the wait. That said I would recommend reading or listening to this series in order.
The story is beautifully written and the author's wonderfully descriptive writing had me hooked on this action-packed, fast-paced shifter romance. It’s an emotional rollercoaster ride that quite frankly I didn't want to get off as I learned all about Chase the Alpha and Skye the woman/wolf he is drawn to.
Chase Leyne is the Alpha of the Aspen Pack, a pack which was devastated by his father who was the Alpha before him. A wicked, evil Alpha who tortured and murdered many of his pack and used dark magic to increase his power, he even imprisoned Chase and tortured him for years while the pack thought he was dead. Then when his father was finally defeated Chase became Alpha, but he doesn't believe himself worthy or that he has the love or loyalty of all his pack. He worries that when they see him they remember his father and so drives himself to be the Alpha they need, determined to protect his pack even if it costs him his life.
He is a protector who resents being protected especially by Skye Jameson-Anderson, she's a member of the Redwood pack, but because of an alliance between the packs is often on Aspen land, training and enhancing her fighting skills. Skye has always felt broken, she knows she's loved but she doesn’t know where she fits in her pack. She doubt's her abilities, yet she's strong. She has no problem looking a higher-ranking wolf in the eye something a lesser-ranking wolf shouldn't be able to do.
Chase is drawn to her but because of a prophecy believes she isn't his mate, he knows she's drawn to him too and hates it when she gets hurt trying to protect him! They may not be mates but the attraction between them is strong and they decide to have a friends-with-benefits relationship but knowing it can't be permanent. Then things get complicated as their emotions come into play, while Chase is sure she's not his mate he believes she is more than an ordinary wolf and is destined to be the mate of Alpha just not his.
It's a story about fated mates, vampires, dark magic, and an evil force lurking in the shadows. It's also a story of loyalty and love, heartbreak and sadness that brought tears to my eyes - in short, this story has everything. The characters some of whom will be familiar to you if you've read the first book or the Redwoods or Talons series are so well described, that they feel real.
The chemistry between Skye and Chase is palpable, but their story was just a part of a much bigger story all woven together beautifully, I'm hooked and need to know what is going to happen next. It’s a great addition to this series and I cannot wait for the next book, this is a pack like no other and I want to go back and visit again!
The narration of the book by Aiden Snow and Kit Swann was excellent, each brought life to the characters and delivered a faultless performance.
Chase Leyne, the Alpha of the Aspens was trying to rebuild the Pack his late father nearly destroyed with his tyranny ways. He had such strong inner strength that he felt like he'd let his people down when he couldn't safe them from his father's cruelty and deceptions.
Now there was a new danger threatening the Packs and the humans. He was willing to do whatever it took to neutralize the enemy before he, his loved ones and allies lose anyone they cared about Especially a beautiful, smart and fierce she-wolf he had come to know and admire, Skye Jamenson.
Skye Jamenson, daughter of Cailin Jamenson and Logan Anderson (FIGHTING FATE) felt like she didn't know where she truly. But she knew the legacy that she must live up to. Despite how she felt she would do everything in her power to make sure her packmates, the Redwoods/Talons and their allies stayed alive.
So when the Alpha of the Aspen Pack was ambush she ran to his rescue despite not being a dominant wolf. She was able to hold her own against their enemies sure the Alpha got hurt but they worked great as a team. Chase admired the way she stood her ground no matter what was thrown at them.
The enemy was not only coming after them but all the other packs around the world. Chase, Cole, Kade and Gideon along with the others were working on a way to beat the enemy at their own game. Skye saw that they were coming after Chase every chance they got.
She kept protecting him, come what may. As the mating bonds have been altered since the last great war, they didn't know that they were each other's forever. They both felt broken but they couldn't be further from the truth. When they found out what they really meant to another, there was no stopping them.
HUNTED IN DARKNESS is the second book in Carrie Ann Ryan's ASPEN PACK series. Oh my this has to be my favorite book in the series so far. It was fast-paced, gut-wrenching, action packed and such a delightful treat. Carrie Ann Ryan did a thrilling job. 5🌟🌟🌟🌟
P. S. Ooh la la I'm looking forward to Cole's story next ;)
****I received this book, without any obligation to review.****
The second book in the Aspen Pack Series; Hunted in Darkness is a lively, fast paced shifter romance. HID can be read as a standalone, however, I always recommend reading a series in order to get the most out of it.
Chase is the new alpha of the recovering Aspen Pack, he has much to prove and rebuild after the damage his father did as previous pack leader. Now the newly healing pack has a new flight on their hands, something is coming and they will need to rely on each other to get to the bottom of it. Even the ones that he doesn’t expect.
Skye Jamenson has been lost for what feels like her entire life, never really feeling like she belonged anywhere. Her parents have never been nothing but supportive, but she knows she also has her family’s name to live up to. Skye will do whatever she can to make sure her pack and their allies stay safe and whole. When one of their allies is attacked, Skye rushes to the rescue.
Chase is pleasantly surprised by Skye and her strength as she stands her ground against those around her. This new enemy is coming for not only their packs, but all packs everywhere. As the battle continues, this new enemy keeps coming after Chase time and time again, and when this happens, Skye is always there to help him. The mating bonds are all messed up still, but they both feel something when they are with one another, maybe a little less…broken?
I love a good shifter romance and C.A.R never lets me down! It was really interesting getting more of the back story of Chase and the Aspen back. This new threat is going to be one that know one sees coming. Skye and Chase’s connection is so different compared to other “fated” mates, the bonds are still altered so what they should be feeling is muted. However, their connection and chemistry is still fire, they bond even without it. Hunted in Darkness is filled with heart pounding action, jaw dropping twists, and spicy bits that will fuel the imagination.
Now we're getting into the meat of the pack with the Alpha.
Chase is the alpha of the Aspen pack. He didn't get there easily and he's got a lot to fix from his father's reign. He's working hard at mending fences with the other packs as well as with his own people. There's also a new menace out there causing problems.
Skye is a redwood pack princess and she always seems to be putting herself in the mix and helping save Chase's behind. She's a warrior who has a caring streak a mile wide. She's not a dominant or a submissive. She's something special.
Chase and Skye have a friendship that is solid. They also have an attraction that's hanging over their heads. What they don't have is a mating, maybe. So many things have changed for the packs, including how matings work.
When Chase and Skye decided to act on their attraction things get heated. I'm talking need the AC set on arctic hot. The problems come in when feelings start to deepen but no mating urge happens.
Are Chase and Skye mates or not? Will the new menace to the packs show themselves fully or stay hidden in the shadows? Will the packs be able to stop this new problem before it gets out of hand and becomes known to the humans?
Some of these questions will be answered in this work. Some are the overall plot of the series and will be answered as it goes along.
Having said that, this work is NOT a cliff hanger. It's a completed, stand alone novel. You DON 'T have to have read any of the other books by this author to read this one. I do however recommend reading the other pack series, starting with the redwood pack. You'll have a full history of everything that has gone on with the packs up to this point and a deeper experience with this work. Again, it's NOT a must do thing to read the other books, just a suggestion from me. You will be absolutely fine reading this without reading those.
As is usual for Ms. Ryan's works, this work is very well written with great character developement and amazing world building skills. You'll fall in love with the characters and be on the edge of your seat wondering how things are going to turn out.
This is book 2 in the series and I'm eagerly awaiting all the others. I can't wait to see how the baddies in this series get their comeuppance.
Hunted in Darkness is yet another fantastic ride through the wolf shifter world of Carrie Ann Ryan. This time, we're focused on the Alpha from the Aspen pack, Chase, who's new to the role and very unsure of himself. How could he not be after all he's been through...you'll find out what that is, no spoilers. He's plagued by doubt, while also being a strong leader who's very much involved with his Pack. Skye is "royalty" from the Redmond pack, but she has many of the same feelings of inadequacy that Chase does. While she's everything to everyone, she doesn't have the "niche" that the rest of her family and friends do. She's strong and brave but broken inside, looking for her place. What they do know is that they aren't mates. And that's emphasized over and over (which is my only complaint). But they are friends and soon become more than that/ Skye continually jumps to protect Chase, even though he is not "her" Alpha...and he does not like that. She knows she's strong and capable, but he wants to protect her as well. Their chemistry is electric, but so is there simple understanding of each other, which makes their connection deeper. This couple is the perfect addition to the series and to the overall world of Pack relations and intermingling. I'll be honest and say that I need a refresher before reading each new book, because sometimes I can't keep who belongs where straight in my head. But Hunted in Darkness can be read without going back to the beginning of the PNR world. Since we're only on book two, new readers can definitely catch up on at least the Aspen series and fill in with the others when they have time. Because they won't want to miss out on any. Can't wait until the next book comes out!
Hunted in Darkness by Carrie Ann Ryan is Chase and Skye's story and the second book in the Aspen Pack series.
Chase and Skye are from different packs but have always been around each other. Chase swore they were not each other's mates due to a prophecy, but everything snaps into place when their lives are in danger.
Chase and Skye have an undeniable pull to each other and their chemistry is off the charts. Chase's past is one of heartbreak and so much sorrow. Skye, although extremely strong, is so lost. The two of them together balance each other out.
The Aspen Pack books grab you from the beginning and keeps you intrigued right into the next book. Although these technically can be read as standalones, I highly recommend they be read in order to get the entire story. I can not wait for the next book in the series.
Aiden Snow and Kit Swann did a great job bringing the characters and story to life.

*advanced copy provided to Canadian Girl Book Blog for an honest review*
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "HUNTED IN DARKNESS" WOW!!! What a great story it sets off with intense riviting action with Vampires wanting to take Chase Alpha of Aspen Pack down using dark magic no one to help until Skye appears they fight together you can't put this book down so much is brewing. Skye Jameson-Anderson knows she has a legacy to live up to coming from a family of Warriors & being the granddaughter of Alphas who will sacrifice everything to protect the Den, their allies & save the Alpha of the Aspen Pack who she knows isn't her mate. Chase Keyne's father Blade was the most powerful Wolf in his territory & traitor of his Pack & his son so he knows all about legacy he's trying to make up for what his father did to his people those that survived & new members of the pack his memories of being caged & locked away, he's also trying to make alliances with the three other packs. Chase knows for fact that Skye isn't his mate but they are attracted to one another can they be together knowing it might not be forever because of the prophecy the chemistry between these two is sizzling hot. I definitely recommend to get this fantastic paranormal adventure following Chase & Skye's journey the enemy is stepping their game one bite changes everything for Skye & Chase will they get HEA in the end you must get this book & extended epilogue to see how it all turns out. I'm so looking forward to the next book in this amazing series "MATED IN CHAOS". AWESOME AWESOME READ!!!!
Talk about a wild ride with Chase and Skye! Getting to see more of the backstory of how and why he is the way he is was so great. We needed to learn all those details because it shaped him into the shifter that he is today. One with lots of baggage that needs to be dealt with and over come. Then we have the sassy headstrong and stubborn Skye who will help out where ever she is needed friend to the pack but doesn’t know where she belongs. Once they decide to try this “relationship” thing out things get interesting. They help each other work through all of their baggage and become better people, especially Chase. But one of the best things about their relationship is the banter. They are both so stubborn and headstrong he will tell her what to do and she flat out tells him no she won’t do what he wants her to do. Which is perfect for him he needs someone that won’t back down and be submissive he needs someone that will go toe to toe with him and call him on his crap which she does. But she integrates so well with the pack that makes it even better. And even after all the ups and downs and twists and turns, they find their way back to each other and get their beautiful happily ever after. Now we still have the next round of the “big bad to deal with” who knows what the story is with them but by goddess we will figure it out. I can’t wait for the next book to see how everyone’s doing and what’s gonna happen next.
This was my favorite kind of angsty read. This is the second book in the Aspen Pack series and is about Chase and Skye. Chase is the alpha of the Aspen pack, and has lived through a lot of hell to get to where he is now. He deals with a lot of guilt and doubt because of the situation his pack had been through before, even though he wasn't to blame. Skye is a member of the Redwood pack, but has been drawn to the Aspen pack and spends a lot of time there. She is a bit different from other shifters, more submissive yet has not problem meeting the eyes of those wolves more dominant than her. Skye and Chase are drawn together, but are both certain they aren't mates. However, they have an attraction neither can deny. At the same time they are both mired down in the middle of the big bad that multiple packs are coming together to try and fight. I love stories about shifters and mates, especially when things get complicated and angsty and you get a lot of that with this one!
Carrie Ann Ryan does a great job of helping readers to understand what is going on if you haven't read any of the other interconnected books. I've only read a few of her shifter books, but had no problem understanding the world and what was happening, however, I do strongly recommending reading the first book in the series because you do get a lot of information on the Aspen pack's history and it's a great book!
“Hunted in Darkness” is an action-packed shifter romance that doesn’t skip on the steamy, emotions are important moments for the Aspen Pack.
Chase is the Alpha of the Aspen pack and his backstory is heart wrenching. His father was the former Alpha and did some pretty terrible things. Wanting to be the best he can be, Chase does everything he can do to protect his pack from anyone or anything. Skye is part of a different pack but has never really fit in. She hasn’t been able to find her place and when her paths cross with Chase, something clicks in the both of them.
From the very chapter, I could not put this story down. Chase and Skye captured me and pulled me right in. I felt a part of their pack and their struggles became my struggles. Chase’s backstory was heartbreaking and it’s amazing the man and wolf he became despite it all. Skye’s struggles of fitting in will be relatable to so many, myself included. Carrie Ann Ryan has written some amazing and strong characters and I’m looking forward to more from the pack.
Aiden Snow and Kit Swann were so perfect as Chase and Skye. They brought all the emotions of this story to life and I can’t imagine anyone else portraying them in the audiobook. Aiden’s growly voice was made for an Alpha and Kit’s emotional performance as Skye was so good.
Skye is the daughter of warriors and the granddaughter of the late Alphas of the Redwood pack. Skye feels she doesn't have a place within the pack but does what she needs to do to keep her pack and their allies safe. Chase is the Alpha of the Aspen pack and the son of a traitor. Chase carries guilt on not being able to help his pack during his father's tyrannical reign. The new enemy steps up their attack against Chase, but Skye is always there fighting at Chase's side. Chase and Skye are attracted to each other and agree to lean on each other until one of them finds their mate. Chase and Skye grow closer and feelings develop that says they could be more. Who betrays Chase and Skye to the vampires? What happens to Chase and Skye that leads to their mating bond? Can Chase, Skye, members of the Aspen pack, and their allies beat back an attack from the vampires? I loved Hunted in Darkness by Carrie Ann Ryan! Chase and Skye are an amazing couple who complete each other with Skye being a Gamma who settle Chase. Chase and Skye have scorching hot chemistry. Hunted in Darkness has pulse pounding action, betrayal, sizzling chemistry, twists and turns, and a mating bond. I would highly recommend getting Hunted in Darkness and the other books in the Aspen Pack series by Carrie Ann Ryan. I received a free ARC copy of this book, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
This is the 2nd book in this series and its a riveting page turner that you won't want to put down until you have finished.
Carrie Ann Ryan has a skilful way of weaving a tale that draws you in and then keeps you on the edge of your seat with everything that is happening. I am so loving the Aspen pack. They are stronger then they think considering everything they were put through at the hands of their previous alpha.
Chase is trying to bring the pack together whilst fighting his demons. He is constantly questioning his ability to lead thanks to everything his father put him through. He feels like he let the pack down as he couldn't fight back against his father, the Alpha. With the upcoming war with the Vampires on its way he needs to be clear headed and be able to defend and fight for his pack.
Skye is the Redwood pack Princess and is struggling to find her place in her pack. When she started spending more time at the Aspen pack she finds she is more at home then ever. When the chemistry between her and the Alpha heats up there is only a matter of time before they give into temptation but will it be just a fling or so much more?
I really am loving the way this story is building up. With the vampires stepping up their attacks and battle plan the Wolves need to be ahead of the game and on the defence.
I can't wait to see how the next book plays out and what is to come in this war with the Vampires.
I was gifted a copy of this book by the Author. This is my honest opinion
I've read very few books having to do with wolves because it's not really my preference, but I'll read anything by Carrie Ann Ryan, and I'm super glad I did read Hunted in Darkness as I LOVED it. Skye is a princess in the Redwood Pack but she really doesn't know where she belongs at the end of the day so she just does her best to protect other wolves to help out, which is how she ends up interacting with Chase & the Aspen Pack. Poor Chase, he's dealing with the fallout from his father's terrible actions, and he's drowning in guilt. Skye ends up saving him from a situation that went south, and the new journey begins. There's a lot of heat with these two that's for sure, but there's a system in this world where wolves have a mate, but some things were thrown into chaos so he doesn't believe Skye is his mate because of a prophecy. Oh, and then there's that issue of the vampires bringing danger to their lives so the twists are coming in hot on that front while the sparks are flying between these two. I LOVED every last minute of this phenomenal story that I couldn't put down to save my life until every last page was devoured. I CANNOT WAIT for more of this series, and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!
This is my first read by Carrie Ann Ryan and I am definitely looking forward to reading the rest of this series and catching up with book one. It’s been awhile since I’ve read a shifter story so it was a nice change from my norm of dark reads lately.
This is Skye and Chase’s story and it’s got a lot going on. Skye is still trying to find her place in the Aspen pack while Chase is the current Alpha. The pack has been going thru a lot of changes and recovering. Skye is a fighter and is constantly putting herself in harms way to protect Chase even though he isn’t actually her Alpha and Chase has a hard time dealing with that because he wants to be the one protecting her. Even though these two are not fated mates they do become the best of friends and eventually become more. Their connection and chemistry is off the charts between them. Their story is definitely one you have to read if you love shifter stories.
There is lots of adventure and action and lots of everything else too. Absolutely love these two characters and can’t wait for the next book. This is a standalone that focuses on one couple so there’s no cliffhanger just an absolutely amazing HEA that is long overdue for Skye and Chase. Definitely recommend this book!!!
