In the new novel, I’ll Be Seeing You, by author Linda Wallace Maguire, the past comes alive and love never dies.
I am the daughter of a WWII veteran who served his country in the Philippines WWII. He left behind my mother and two preschool sons to serve in the conflict. He came home critically ill from the islands and was taken to Mayo Hospital in my hometown of Galesburg, Illinois to recuperate. There was to follow six daughters to be born after the war ended.
I am proud of my father's service. His sacrifices! Daddy could never talk of the war. He buried his story deep within himself.
Fiction or non-fiction... Each story reflects the pain of our troops who left their loved ones behind. I am certain someone reading, even a book of fiction from the era, realizes that the suffering was real and millions suffered on the battlefield as they left suffering of the loved ones left behind! I absolutely loved this book. It had enduring love, betrayal, redemption and Christian faith. I really enjoyed the history of the World War II years and it made appreciate how my parents generation made it through those years of rations on food and gas and other necessities of life. And how the women went to work to fill in the men's jobs while they were serving in the Armed Forces. I can see why they were called the Greatest Generation. I loved each and every character (except one). I highly recommend you read this book.
I really liked this story. I have read lot of WWII books but not quite like this. I loved the characters - how brutal some people can be - how others are so kind and loving - it was a hard time for all during the War. I remember the rationing and my dad was in the Navy - although I was very young I remember little bits and pieces. I would highly recommend this book - it shows how loving a couple can be with each other and others. You will not be disappointed.
If there’s a delightful tale of war, this shows people working together on the American home front. Godly characters. Some lies and heartbreak thrown in. Thomas Brown endures loss but later finds.
