1. (None)
2. Grades 1-3
3. “Ancient Egypt” is an informational text that explains the culture of ancient Egypt. It talks about many things such as the ancient gods, pyramids, clothes, food, pharoas and the Nile River.
4. This book is very factual. It includes a table of contents and a glossary with many defined terms throughout the story. There are many real pictures, but there are also many animations and I feel like there should be less illustrations for an informational text.
5. This book can be used to teach all about Ancient Egypt, architecture, and culture.

Okay for introduction to ancient Egypt or perhaps in conjunction with other resources. Pictures are good. Questions are asked, yet the answers are not given in the back of the book.

Mainland Greece and the islands surrounding it are hot and dry with many high mountains and steep-sided valleys. Once, the valleys had many trees, but by time the forests had been cut down. The Greek mainland is surrounded almost entirely by water. The ancient Greeks had to farm near the coast and in sheltered valleys because of some difficulties in the countryside. Furthermore, Ancient Greece wasn’t a united country. It was divided into city-states. Athens, now the capital of Greece, was the city of education and learning. Nevertheless, the city of Sparta was Athen’s greatest rival and was famous for the strength of its army. Poetry was the earliest form of Greek literature. Furthermore, the Greeks were the first civilization to record their history as it happened. Slaves were usually captured prisoners of war. They were owned by the people they worked for and were bought and sold like property. A fact that I learned is that the Greeks were skilled sailors and powerful traders. Another fact that I learned is that Greek houses were arranged around a courtyard with an altar in the middle. Last but not least, another fact that I learned is that Greek boys went to school from the age of 7 until they were 15. However, girls were taught to cook and look after the house by their mother. To conclude, this was very good and educational book to read.

An achievement of the Greeks was the Olympic Games. The Greeks believed that having a physically fit body was a way of honoring the gods. The Olympic games were held once every four years in honor of Zeus. Also, the Greeks were great at trading which was considered an achievement because they were placed in a “trade center.” In my opinion, ancient Greece changed the world because some of our ideas came from them so it could be considered “something that changed the world.” For example, as said earlier, the Greeks created the Olympic games; we then took their idea and expanded it. It still is every 4 years but it doesn’t last only 5 days. Some contributions that Greeks made were the education, the farming, the trading, and the food. To conclude, this book explains how the things we do know are a little bit related to what the Greeks did before.

I recommend this book to the students who study Ancient Greece in history class or the teachers how are teaching their students Ancient Greece in their class. This book is useful because it gives a lot of important ideas and helps the students have some knowledge about an old country. This book was outstanding but not a reference for the 6th graders. Do you know that feeling when you read a history book and you want to sleep? In this book, it’s the opposite! You read the book and you want to stay awake and finish the book. Furthermore, this book is very educational and contains a lot of facts that could be used later on. To conclude, this book is a great book that people should read.

I like the variety of drawings, photographs, and the illustrated map. The information is a good overview of the various aspects of ancient Egyptian life. It can be a little wordy at times, but it serves our purposes.
