It's been 819 years since Congress abandoned humanity to a Stone Age fate on an Earth infested with man-eating monsters, and now the galactic government, in all its benevolence, has come back to force humanity back into citizen status in its great collective...
...Except this time, thanks to Prime Commander Dobbs, humanity has a surprise for our alien conquerors.
ZERO: Forgotten is a post-apocalyptic science fiction adventure where a group of naive genetic experiments take on an alien government in an all-or-nothing fight for the fate of humanity, a unique twist on conventional space opera.

(If you're already a fan: This stand-alone ZERO novel completes the prophecy begun by Joe Dobbs in Forging Zero, completely independent of the previous books, but also the final chapter in the arc. Yes, there will be one more book between this and Book 3. This is a stand-alone that takes place many centuries after Joe dies. Only the longest-lived characters are the same, and reading this book will in no way undermine the fun, exciting ride of the second half of Joe's adventures on Earth. [i.e. contains no spoilers])

After a long, twisted road, Alaskan Fury is my 15th book. The rest (aside from the first five or so ‘practice books’) spent the last 3-6 years languishing on my hard drive as I waited for some really cool editor at a big, traditional publishing house to notice me. It didn’t happen, even with a world-famous agent doing his damnedest to get my books out there.

So, because I’ve got a stubborn streak a mile wide—and some say because I’m a naïve, dumbass Alaskan—I’m striking out on my own and putting my books out there. Basically casting my dice to the Fates, and seeing what happens. If you like my books, please tell your friends. I don’t have a huge advertising team behind me, so word-of-mouth really helps.

On that note, my books never went through a copyeditor. What you see is the result of a few dedicated volunteers, all of whom have poured untold hours into the crafting of the book in your hands. They are awesome, steeped in awesome, sprinkled with awesome. Thanks, guys!

Further, I write fast. I can easily write 6 novels a year—8 if I don’t get distracted—and during those long years waiting for somebody to notice me, I was finding myself in the extremely frustrating position of watching my manuscripts pile up because traditional publishing companies can only take 1 or 2 novels by a single author a year. Keep an eye out for a bunch of new books from yours truly, as I've finally got an outlet for all that creative drive. :) Enjoy!

I loved it for the most part.

As with the other books in the series, the world building is fantastic and most of the character development is excellent. That said, I didn't like how it ended - basically, it does what the main character is trying to avoid throughout the book.

But still, a must-read for any sci-fi lover out there

I didn't like the characters and neither their absurd relationship. The first hundred pages are unnerving and boring. The story is weak.
If I hadn't like very much the previous zero's books, I would never have gone this far in this one.

“It’s a horrible thing to be Forgotten.”

What an amazing book! Thank you, Sara King, for bringing this out! I cannot wait to read what I’m sure will be a fantastic finale to Joe Dobbs’ life!

Good ending to a wild ride

This series is so far the best I have read, and this book a good ending. I can definitely recommend it for anyone that enjoys science fiction.

Kim is a Maker, a psychic on Earth who can morph matter. But she is kicked out of Maker school because she isn't good enough. Before she can ruin her life even more, she runs into a Minder, Sky, a telepath who can manipulate her and even take over her mind in order to Make things. They team up—because he's pretty persuasive—and end up in space, kidnapped by aliens...in order to carry out an elaborate plot envisioned by Sky to save Humanity. The first order of business? Find Forgotten.

Ok there's a lot of ridiculous stuff that happens in this book but I had fun the entire time. I liked the characters pretty well, I love the world, and even though it's been years since I read the last Zero book it didn't matter! (It took me a little bit to get oriented but because the aliens were also new to Kim, it worked out well.) Kim was really relatable and fairly smart even though sometimes she was stupid—like a real person. Several times I was like darnit Kim, why did you do THAT? but obviously that didn't occur to her. i.e. she makes very human mistakes. Sky was basically like an alien but he was fun too. Forgotten is always entertaining. I loved the politics and the drama.

The book kept my attention through the whole thing. I was never bored. Once or twice I was definitely like '...really?...' but that's ok. Some of the characters had the same reaction ;)

There is some SERIOUS world/universe development in this book. I am interested to see where the author goes from here.

A fantastic end to the series

And despite it being an end, I sincerely hope there are more books in this universe.

When reading the synopsis I was pretty skeptical that the final book could be released as a standalone novel without spoilers and still maintaining enough continuity in the universe to feel connected to the rest of the series. I viewed it as something of an experiment and didn’t really expect it to work. I was wrong. Sara King managed to pull it off excellently.

I’m afraid I don’t trust myself to go into details without dropping spoilers, so I really can’t say much more other than that I absolutely loved the book. Ms King has a way of setting up characters and events in a way that, at least for me, generates a palpable feeling of fury on behalf of the hero. Most books don’t manage to make an actual emotional connection even when I truly like them, but she managed to do it three times in four books. (The first was the opening of Forging Zero, and if you’ve read it you know exactly what I’m talking about).

I started rereading the series the entire series almost as soon as I finished The Legend of Zero: Forgotten because it has reminded me how excellent the whole series is.

After a long wait, I was stoked to finally see a conclusion to this series. However, the style seemed to have drifted a bit from the original book so long ago (there's a little more romance in the mix now). Also it felt like there was a book missing between the last one I read (scientist, rat, and assassin) and this one. Forgotten takes place far in the future, involving almost entirely new characters, and I guess I'd expected to learn more about the end of zero's life before this book began. With that said, it was still impossible to put down and brought the series to a nice concluding place (although more stories are possible).

If you've got a deep sci Fi background you might be reminded of the worthing saga by Orson Scott Card.

Not a worthy continuation

There were up's and downs, though overall the story felt less satisfying than previous books. Death is inherent to this series, and this new addition is neutered without it. Without death, character conflict felt inconsequential and shallow. I also felt like there were too many distractions and elements being introduced but not fully explored before the story rushed to an end. After waiting so many years for this book, I really wanted to like it... But I feel like a different author took over the tale.

King's books are always interesting. I think they are also experimental and ambitious. She is so talented that, at a minimum they are worth reading, and are often spectacularly good. Forgotten is definitely a worthwhile read, but gets an A- because it felt like she had a specific ending in mind and had to come up with a way to get there, and it felt like it didn't come together in a completely convincing way. But that's a pretty minor criticism - still very fun, huge scope, dizzying array of characters, and so many threads deftly pulled together. Readability 6. Rating 6.

What a fantastic end to a great series! Sara is such a great writer, creating worlds that I never want to leave. She closed this story out, in hindsight, the only way possible.

I have to admit I’m biased, since I would probably buy her grocery list and give it 5 stars. But she truly is great and I hope she continues writing wonderful stories and can find the time to add new tales in some of the incredibly diverse universes she has created.

Great

Sara King is one of my favorite authors. Forgotten is well written. There are no spoilers, unless you thought Joe Dobbs was immortal. I suppose a person doesn’t need to read the other Zero books before reading Forgotten but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Sara needs to release books more often. I know writing is a process and an author works as fast as the magic allows, but I am getting old and would like closure on the Zero and Outer Bounds books before I go.

Was worth the wait

I reread all the books just to preserve the continuity and now I am up sacrificing sleep to finish...and yes it was worth it! I am glad to have known you before the first Zero was published. (Lol, you sent it to me in Word format to preview...what author does that?) THANK YOU...THIS series is so well crafted I would have to say you are my favorite author ever!

The best and most satisfying ending

I'm so glad that Sara King exists to show other writers ho w to properly conclude a beloved series. It closed every loop and did not short cut, become overly rushed, or get so sappy with nostalgia and finality that it made you hate the other books. Well done Sara, as always you prove than indie writers should never be Forgotten. love love love

Had a great premise

Started out with a great premise. But the main character was a whiny, self serving girl that never matured. I was amazed at the power each main character was given by the author, but amazingly couldn't draw upon that power when they needed it most.
Each character had power they never new they had when it suited the author, but couldn't use it when it suited the author, time after time.

After a long time next book from ZERO series is the story ending, happening few hundred years in the future. Because of that we mostly get new characters and story has more fantasy elements in it.
Still a great read, takes a moment to remember who's who but we get the finale of the prophecy story line.

Finally a new addition to the Zero series I love!

Love the series, waiting for more. Imaginative and engaging characters working toward living their best lives despite the odds of being caught up in the political workings of this universe.

Masterful writing

Once again Sara King did not disappoint! The characters are well developed and the plot very character driven. I was hoping that it would be more with Joe/Eat/Joe's brother, but maybe there will be a novella in the future?

Good to be back

King is a great author, and it's a pleasure to read a book in this setting again. There are several authors who seem to be unable to come back from an extended break, it's great to see King writing at the top of her game again.

As always, a masterpiece of science fiction.

Sara King brings chaos to Congress. My favorite book in the Zero series.

Incredibly talented storytelling with characters you come to love and despise.

Can't wait to experience more this galaxy.
