Someone told me that once. And I’ll tell you this much—they weren’t shitting me.
If you know anything about me at all, folks, you’ll know I’m not much of a planner. Never have been and probably never will be. So when I decided to take early retirement without so much as a fucking whiff of a plan, my crew of geriatric buddies at the Seacoast Majestic Resort came to the consensus that I hadn’t given my future enough thought.
I mean, they weren’t wrong. All cards on the table—I hadn’t given it any thought.
Who the hell plans their retirement anyway? Like, what’s my to-do list even supposed to look like?
Day 1 - Consume margaritas while sunning on the beach—nap numero uno—poker with the guys—nap numero dos—early dinner buffet—more margaritas—relations with my girlfriend—bedtime.
Day 2 - Margaritas on the beach—nap one—miniature golf with the guys—nap two—early buffet—margaritas—sex—bedtime.
Day 3 - Margaritas—nap—poker—nap—food—drinks—sex—snooze
Day 4 - Rinse and repeat
You get the picture. Who needs a fucking plan for that?
And you know, my lack of a plan would’ve worked perfectly fine except for the little hassle of needing money to retire. According to Al, I wasn’t allowed to crash on his living room floor for the rest of my life, and Vic Hoffman’s old cottage cost more to rent than a song and a Bentley combined.
So, at Al’s persuasion (*cough* coercion), I was forced to temporarily come out of retirement and get a part-time job to cover my expenses. I won’t get into the details of the job I was forced to get, because that would spoil the story. But let’s just say, it became a clusterfuck in the unkindest sense of the word.
And now, once again, I invite you to join me and Al for yet another Caribbean-flavored adventure. As always, this book is rated R for colorful language, crude humor, sexual innuendos, and the occasionally frequent non-PC remark. Rated A+ for entertainment value.
Drunk in Recovery is a laugh out loud mystery set on a tropical Caribbean island. This has been a fun Kindle Unlimited series. Mitchell created a unique cast of characters including a bunch of geriatric men and a brash full of himself protagonist who is actually a good guy at the core despite his cocky demeanor. The last 100 pages flew by with superb comedic moments. While this won’t win any literary fiction awards, Mitchell created a very entertaining book and series. I hope there will be a next installment in the future. Recommended if you like Carl Hiaasen and Ben Rehder.
Never fails to create a fun adventure! An unexpected plot twist at the end made this one more of a nail biter. But I have to admittedly - I have not read several of the prior books (only the first 3).
This fund filled series about DRUNK keeps a smile on my face. I love AL and the crew. Alway looks stick with what has made these books a hit. As my wise mom repeatedly advised ---- IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T MESS WITH A GOOD THING!!!! Please keep your colorful boys (and of course Al's sweetheart wife) in the script. They are my best friends and the entire gang gets me excited to read each new story! That's two cents worth of my opinion. Keep DRUNK ET AL In this family fun series!! 💃🍺📚🆒. Ready for number 8 etc etc etc👏👍
I’ve read all 7 of your books in (The Misadventures of a Drunk in Paradise) series. I found them all amusing, never feeling to but a smile on my face, and causing many laugh out loud moments throughout each one of them. It’s classic light hearted humor and a great way to relax and escape reality of the times and have yourself a few laughs. I’d recommend start from book one. You’ll laugh a lot and enjoy the quick reads. Looking forward to the next one in your series. Write on!
Drunk has impulsively quit his job at the resort but finds retirement at 36 has its downside: it’s expensive. He needs a job, and finds a “try out” with a shady private investigator. Mayhem, as usual, ensues. Drunk’s elderly side-kick Al and his team of gun-toting Seniors have to ride to the rescue again, along with an half-blind legendary PI. Drunk begins to realize he needs a do-over to become the man worthy of his girl. I have been chuckling through the books in this series. I need another one, ASAP!
I’m glad I didn’t give up on this easy breezy junk food series after the mediocre book 5 and the borderline atrocious book 6. Book 7, and at the moment looks like most recent of the Danny Drunk books comes very close to what made the earlier books so special And kudos for a few red herrings, some pretty predictable and a couple that were curveballs.
Not the greatest detective series ever, but Drunk in Recovery returns this amusing little series to its enjoyable light hearted fare.
I have enjoyed all the Drunk books, they are light, funny and filled with characters. For me this was a disappointing book. The first half was filled with Drunk whining and whinging about retirement and not wanting to have to get a job but wanting to live in a nice place, ?to the point that if I could have slapped him, I would! The second half was better but still not up to the caliber of the first books. Sorry Zane
This series is so much fun! Each book gets better and better if that is possible. This book has it all…..romance, mystery, action, fun and games, twists and turns and let’s not forget the humor. I adore the characters in this series. Doesn’t everyone deserve a Yoda like Drunk? Sadly I have come to the end and I sure hope there will be more to come.
I have enjoyed all of the Drunk books. The setting is appealing and the characters engaging. As an older man, it's good to know we might still be useful. I did have a little trouble with Drunk's attitude early in this book. Too much whining, but he does grow up in the end, and it's worth hanging in there. Keep them coming.
Danny Drunk is a hilarious guy, well developed character, leading us thru misadventures galore in a Caribbean island resort. Sure hope he gets Frankie back. When the next book Zane?
Loved it. I missed Drunk so much! Please write another one rather quickly. I need to continue. The story was funny, it had me laughing out loud as usual. I loved the team of his friends, they are great.
This guy writes great, entertaining books. He’s got me out on my lanai at 1 in the morning reading chapter after chapter. Can’t wait until the next Drunk book! Start at his first and thank me later.
I like the new direction that Drunk is set up for in this novel. I think it gives his character a big opportunity for new adventures. Looking forward to the next great story.
Great story, great characters, the scenes written for bootsy in the club I couldn't stop laughing in a world full of LGBTQ binary et al when you can't laugh that was the greatest thing I've read in a long time.
I’ve read 7 of the Drunk books and was disappointed in the ending of book 7. I don’t know if there will be more in the series; if it is, I hate to see the series end this way.
This was such a fun addition to this series! I laughed out loud quite a few times, and highlighted a few of Al's hilarious comebacks. Plus, in between these titles, I actually miss this cast of characters. Again, I highly recommend these books.
I read all 7 of these books in about 3 weeks time, they were that good! I cannot wait to read #8 to see if Danny can finally grow up enough or what if takes to be in a committed relationship! Please more misadventures on Paradise Isle!
Overall, the books are fun to read. Don't expect deep stories and mysteries. My biggest issue is the author goes too much into side stories and back stories so much they seem like fillers, also sometimes harps on one subject throughout the book. Characters are great and well developed.
I liked Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum Series and this reminds me of a mystery along with humor. The twist and turns it takes before it gets solved can be hard to figure it out till the end.
Long on story but got better the more I read Drunk is harmless sad he lost his woman but I'm sure things will change in his Paradise....ciao from costa rica
These books about Danny Drunk are funny, have great characters and I love the trouble he gets into and out of. I look forward to reading the next book.
