Professional Players #4

Love & Other Forbidden Things: What you don't know, can't hurt...

Rate this book
Amy Harrington is struggling to readjust to life at home in Ireland after the cosmopolitan buzz of London. Sick of being the only singleton on the shelf, she longs to find the right man, but the second any potential candidate realises who her famous rugby playing brother is, they spend more time worshipping him than her.

Irish rugby player Ollie Quinn is newly single and ready to mingle. When he meets a brunette in the players’ lounge, he promises to show her Ireland can be every bit as exciting as London, before realising she’s Eddie Harrington’s little sister. Despite the explosive chemistry between them, it’s one promise he can’t keep – everyone knows messing with your friend’s sister is forbidden.

When Amy lands her dream job, physiotherapist to the rugby team, the two are forced to face the growing chemistry between them. Injuries on the pitch seem minimal compared to what Eddie might do if he discovers their dalliances.

Is it simply the temptation of tasting forbidden fruit?
Or will forbidden turn into forever?

Perfect romantic reading for fans of Lyssa Kay Adams, Tessa Bailey and Sally Thorne.

This is the 4th book I’ve read by Lyndsey Gallagher and oh my word, whilst they were all good this one had an extra edge for me - I couldn’t put it down!
The characters, Amy and Ollie are just luscious, so sweet and both with vulnerabilities and worries. They felt so real, I just wanted to hug them both.
The feelings they have when they meet just jump off the page and I can promise you won’t be disappointed by the steam! Such tension and lust!
All wrapped up with one of Lyndsey’s beautiful happy endings, I adored this book! Highly, highly recommended

Great Characters, Steamy Tension, Witty Dialog - A Must Read!

This is the fourth in the Players Series about the Irish Rugby team and although you don't have to read them in order the characters do repeat are all wonderful so you will want to which is easy to do if you are a KU member. While I hated that Amy and Ollie were keeping their relationship a secret, and even keeping secrets about their pasts from each other I did understand their reasoning. I also loved that Amy was a strong and smart heroine and Ollie was not the stereotypical "reformed womanizing jock" and that they took the time to get to know each other and found that they had more than their explosive chemistry in common. I could not put this book down and read it in one sitting (as with the others in the series) and can't wait for the next one. Enjoy!

I absolutely adored this book from start to finish. It pulled me in from the off and I kept on reading it until way past my bedtime!!!
Amy is a brilliant character, so strong-willed and good at her job. She knows what she wants and she goes for it... Even if it breaks her family's rules.
Ollie is just adorable. He's tough on the outside but has the softest heart. He wants to do right by everyone which puts him in a tricky spot when Amy arrives on the scene and sets his pulse racing!
I rooted for these two from page one and was desperate for them to get their happy ending without having to sacrifice their beliefs or their families.
Another awesome story from Lyndsey!

Lyndsey Gallagher is a great writer but this story left me with mixed feelings. For the brother trope to work the female character has to be somewhat compliant. This wonderful brother then becomes somewhat of a bully because he knows what is best for his sister. He will punish her with his displeasure by ignoring her and withholding his love. If I watched my partner treat his sister like that, it would be a huge red flag for me. I think that the protective brother trope is great in Victorian/regency novels but leaves me cold in contemporary books. It just doesn't fit in these modern times.

Let me start by saying I LOVE this series, each one just gets better and better and after reading this book I have a serious book hangover!

Firstly, I love Lyndsey’s writing style, I don’t know if it’s because in the North East we have a lot of the same sayings and expressions as they do in Ireland but her tone is so comforting to me.

I fell in love with Amy and Ollie on page one and loved them right the way through. As individuals they both grew so much during the book and I really felt that by the end of it that these were people that I knew! Together, they had so much natural chemistry with each other and complemented each other perfectly and let me tell you… the spice was sheer perfection!

The book can be read as a stand-alone but I would definitely recommend reading the others in order because so many familiar faces pop up.

Have I also pre-ordered book 5? Yes I have… and so should you!

A fun, cheeky read!

I really enjoyed reading this book in the professional players series as I can relate to it! I think we all have that one forbidden love story. Such an enjoyable read. Just like the other books in the professional players series you feel like you know the characters, like they're people in your life! This is all down to the incredible talented writing of Lyndsey. Once you start reading this book you won't be able to put it down. Funny, heartwarming and all round a fun book. Can't wait for more books by this wonderful author.

THIS BOOK IS UTTERLY DELICIOUS!

There's something about Lyndsey Gallagher's books... Or should I say, there's something about sitting down with a cup of tea and knowing you're going to spend a few hours in the company of the gorgeous, talented and totally stacked Ireland rugby team that is simply delightful. Amy and Ollie's story drew me in from Page 1. I could really identify with Amy's good-girl, people-pleasing tendencies and I was cheering her on as she gathered the courage to advocate for herself. And Ollie was an absolute sweetheart (with great moves off the pitch as well as on it, if you catch my drift). L&OFT was so full of heat and heart that I couldn't put it down. Literally. I even took it on the Peleton with me. Thank you Lyndsey for a heavenly read!

I adore this book!! I have been completely pulled in and unwilling to put this down! I have devoured the entire book in just one sitting.

Lyndsey just writes the most fantastic love stories. I love the characters, I love that despite their situations- decisions have been made. This has made my heart swell and I have loved every page. This is an absolute gem.

Lyndsey is just the most amazing author, it’s easy to picture the setting and characters. I’ve read all the previous book and as always- this is my favourite. There’s nothing to dislike about this one!!

This was such a fun book to read! Amy and Ollie are absolutely delightful characters and I couldn’t get enough of their story! I’ve just discovered this author and her storytelling is superb. The love story is beautiful with plenty of good humor and a glorious amount of romance and passion. I highly recommend this book and I can’t wait to read the rest of the Professional Players Series!

I read this book a month ago and these are my notes from then (wish I could elaborate more but I really don't remember much besides that it was a rugby book):
Could be solved with a conversation the whole plot
Did not understand all this drama about her brother
Again, a conversation would be nice
Steamy but not scorching. Nice to read though
Did not like Amy judging Ollie when she didn't tell him everything about her
3.5 stars wrapped up because it's my first book about rugby

Love & Other Forbidden Things By Lyndsey Gallagher
What You Don’t Know Can’t Hurt…
Book 4 of the Professional Players Series (Can be a stand alone)

Forbidden Romance

Synopsis by me.

Amy’s always been the baby sister. Deigned to sit at the kids table at family dinners even though she’s 24. Her big rugby star brother still ruffles her hair when he talks to her. She wants to get out from under his wing and prove herself as a successful adult. When a job opens up with his team as a physiotherapist she goes behind his back and applies for the job. He is adamant she doesn’t because he doesn’t trust his teammates to leave her alone. Little does he know that his sister has other plans.

Ollie has only had one woman in his life and she made him choose between rugby and her. He chose rugby and she chose his brother. Ollie is devastated until he runs into Amy at a rugby event. When he finds out that she’s his teammate's baby sister he does everything he can to get her out of his mind. Then she joins the team staff. He’s in trouble.

Analysis
Oh man, I loved this book. Irish men, yum. Professional rugby players, yum. Okay, this book isn’t steamy but you can’t even cut the sexual tension with a knife. What I love most is how much you fall in love with the MCs AND the secondary characters. I’ll be honest, I don’t know shite about rugby except American football is loosely based on it. Rugby is definitely more hardcore. Anyway, I didn’t need any background info on rugby to love this story. I almost want to give this 5 stars, but I’m going 4.5. If you love a forbidden romance, personal growth story then this will be your jam.

So right from the off we discover that Amy is a doormat. Her mum changes things in her house while she is not there, like the curtain which Amy hates but says nothing. Her brother Eddie (second book) has a key and just lets himself in whenever he wants and tells her what to do and she lets him

Ollie has had the same on again off again girlfriend since high school. He has never been pictured with a woman cos he spent all his free time with her. She gives him an ultimatum, Rugby or her? He chooses Rugby. Rightly so if you ask me. Don't give people ultimatums. Then he goes to dinner with his family and she is engaged to his brother. Nice woman!

Eddie tells Ollie to sow his wild oats which he does (off page) but he doesn't really enjoy it that much, he wants a girlfriend. Amy cant find that spark with any man but when her and Ollie meet after a game the sparks fly but neither of them do anything because of Eddie

Amy's friend sets her up on the same dating site Eddie set Ollie up on and the are matched. Its over 30% to get to this point and I did find the beginning slow but they pretty much have sex straight away after the first date

She doesn't want to tell anyone, he wants to tell everyone, especially Eddie. He says it will be worse that they haven't told him, Which is true but he says if there still together in six month they should elope and then nobody can break them up when they tell people which was so cute. I loved Ollie

We find out why Eddie is so protective of her and I get but she was 15, a child and now she's a woman who can make her own decisions. Of course she still doesn't tell him

She finally tells her family and Eddies reaction is completely over the top. Its not the 1800s she can date who ever she wants. Him and Ollie fight and then Eddie tells Amy that his ex is marrying his brother. She is annoyed that he hasn't told her and asks her to leave.

I did like that she came to the realisation that he didn't do anything wrong by herself. She didn't tell him what happened to her at 15 because she felt ashamed and like it was her fault and he probably felt the same

He gets jumped by some guys who steal his stuff and she rushes to the hospital with Eddie and the rest of the team. The say sorry to each other and Eddie says he isn't happy but not going to stand it the way

Nice epilogue

I think this was my favourite of the series so far

Amy has left the bright lights of London to come home to Ireland. She's a physiotherapist and when she lands her dream job working for the Irish rugby team, her life starts looking up. The only problem is her brother, Eddie. He's on the team and overly protective of his little sister. Not only is it awkward having him watching her every move, he's also made it clear she can't date any of the team, despite the explosive chemistry she has with Irish rugby star, Ollie.

Amy and Ollie begin a relationship in secret. Can they have love as well as a job, or is it all going to come crashing down around them?

OMG I loved this book! Lyndsey Gallagher is a brilliant contemporary romance writer and has fast become a one click author for me. Her characters leap off the page and I absolutely love the Irish setting and banter. It's a total page-turner of a book and the steam isn't just found in the steam room, this book will make you very hot under the collar!

What I particularly loved is the journey each character goes on. Amy goes from being the meek 'good girl' to finding herself and not needing the validation of others. And Ollie comes to realise that what his family does or says has no bearing on his life and choices.

I totally loved this book and recommend it 100%!

The story
Amy is a 20-something physio. She loves sports and has moved back to Dublin to be closer to her family after working in London. She has her sights set on working with the Irish National Rugby team, it helps that her brother Eddie is one of the professional rugby players in the team. She knows he will be against her working with the team and being around the burly rugby players but she is going for the job anyway. Ollie is a teammate of Eddie’s and he has always kept his love life private. Mostly because his girlfriend back home Anita doesn’t want to be in the public eye. But when she announces she is pregnant and marrying his older brother Luke, Ollie is devastated. Sparks happen to fly though when Amy and Ollie meet!

My thoughts
I so enjoyed this new book in Lyndsey Gallagher’s series about the various team mates in the Irish rugby team. This story has plenty of steam but also a sweet storyline where the two main characters share their POV’s which allows the reader to get great insight into each’s perspective. I love how despite their relatively young ages, both Amy and Ollie are keen to have serious relationships, and aren’t in favour of casual ones. A big thumbs up to this series! 👍

3.5 rounding 4.
The first thing I’m going to say is that I enjoyed this book.
Amy Harrington longs to find the right man, but the second any potential candidate realizes who her famous rugby playing brother is, they spend more time worshipping him than her. Irish rugby player Ollie Quinn is newly single. When he meets a brunette in the players’ lounge, he is attracted to her, before realizing she’s Eddie Harrington’s little sister. But when Amy lands her dream job, physiotherapist to the rugby team, the two are forced to face the growing chemistry between them.
I knew the storyline would be a bit cliché and that was absolutely ok with me. But I had some issues with her family and specially with her brother. In the family gatherings she’s always sited with the children. Everyone just ignores that she is an adult and not a kid anymore. Her brother has a motive to be protective but sometimes it feels almost creepy.
They have this amazing chemistry that sometimes was right on the page and sometimes you could read about it but it was not actually there. I liked Ollie a lot. Amy, not so much. But the witting is great and there are funny and engaging dialogs.

Ollie Quinn has been in an on-off relationship for a long time, one that used all of his time outside the rugby team. That relationship is now definitely off and, even as he's tried the one night stand route, it's not for him. He meets Amy in a post game, and she's exactly what he wants, but he discovers she's a teammate's sister, so she's off limits.

Amy has always been in her famous brother's shadow, and she's been comfortable there until now, that she wants to be a physioterapeut in the rugby team, but her brother doesn't want her to be.

I liked Amy a lot, she's her own person, with her world hobbies, aspirations and achievements outside of her famous brother. She fights for what she wants, working for it.

Ollie is a softie, he's so righteous and suffers for having to lie, but he will in order to fight for the relationship he knows is the one for him.

The way even when they tried to fight against their chemistry, in order to avoid that not allowed teammate - sister relationship, the world put them together anyway was done in a very good way, I loved that part.

Although I've liked them all so far, this is the book I've enjoyed the most in the Professional Players Series, now I'm looking forward for the next one.

🏉 Love & Other Forbidden Things 🏉

“I step out from the shadows and into the moonlight, the stars lighting the path directly towards her.”

Ok, with that kind of storytelling, I’m falling in love too. Amy is the newest physiotherapist for Ireland’s rugby team, where her all star, overprotective big brother, Eddie plays. Ollie Quinn, Ireland’s number 6, knows that you don’t move on your best friend and teammates sister, but his pull towards Amy is undeniable. When Eddie sets Ollie up with an exclusive matchmaking service blind date, everyone is surprised to find Ollie and Amy out to dinner and well on their way to happily ever after.

This one has love, steam, and secrets woven throughout. Ollie and Amy are learning to make peace with their pasts as they plan for their future together.

Check this one out if you are looking for:
🏉 sports romance
🏉 brother’s best friend trope
🏉 set in Dublin
🏉 an insta-love story about how when it’s right, you know it’s right because until it’s happens you “never knew falling in love could be such a whirlwind”

Amy Harrington is a physiotherapist whose boyfriends have always been enamoured of her older brother, Eddie, who is a professional rugby player. Eddie is protective of Amy ever since an incident when she was fifteen. One of Eddie’s teammates is attracted to Amy, but backs off when he finds out Eddie’s her brother. The old don’t date my sister bro code is in full effect. Ollie Quinn is attracted to Amy and the feeling is mutual. They decide to stay away from each other. Amy gets a job as one of the physiotherapists with the team and she isn’t allowed to fraternize with a team member. They are both signed up on a dating site and get matched. Amy needs to decide if Ollie is more important than her job and family. Ollie needs to decide if she’s the one for him. Throw in an uncomfortable situation with his ex, brother, and parents, and Amy’s overprotective family, and you have a great read. I was rooting for this couple. I thought they were perfect for each other. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

I have not read any of the other books in the Professional Players Series by Lyndsey Gallagher, so there were a few storylines I wasn't familiar with in this one. For the most part, it can be read as a stand alone and/or the missing pieces can be figured out.

Amy Harrington thinks she has finally met the man of her dreams, but there's just one small problem.... he's her brother's good friend and teammate. Which means he's off limits. Ollie meets the one woman he has chemistry with and then finds out she's his good friend's and teammate's little sister. Amy's brother is obsessively overprotective (to put it mildly) so dating (openly) is not even an option.

There are situations of forced proximity, secret dating, chance meetups, and lots of steamy moments. I liked the characters, but didn't love them. I didn't like how Amy gave up her passion/hobby to replace it with Ollie. I didn't like how Ollie couldn't decide if he was a bad boy or a emo deep thinker. His personality seemed to waiver. But I did like Ollie and Amy together. Overall an easy read, light romance.

Thank you to NetGalley and Lyndsey Gallagher for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest reviews.

Another ARC from NetGalley. I love this book so much! I was instantly drawn to the fun and flirty storyline. I adored the instant chemistry between Amy and Ollie. I thought this book was funny, cute, enjoyable, and a great read altogether. This is the first book I read in the Professional Players series but it did great as a standalone.

Amy begins her dream job as a physiotherapist to the national Irish rugby team. Her overprotective older brother is a national treasure and player on the same rugby team, which makes it that much more difficult for Amy to adjust to her new job. She meets Ollie, a rugby player on the team, and sparks fly with their instant chemistry. Once he finds out whose little sister she is, Ollie knows pursuing Amy is forbidden. The two are faced with forced proximity through their jobs and must face the feelings building inside.

This book was a fast read and made me relate to Amy, keeping me hooked from the first page. I loved the dual POV from Ollie and Amy’s inner monologues, helping the reader understand where the characters were standing. I highly recommend this book!

Amy and Ollie are the protagonists in this new cute adventure of rugby players series and this couple is young and romantic. When Ollie, the number six of the Irish team is single after years devoted to his ex-girlfriend, he accidentally met a fascinating girl, but Amy is the new physiotherapist of the team and Eddie's little sister. The attraction is doomed to failure, because sisters are off the limits amongst the players and Amy can lose her job if she is involved with one element of the team.

All stars are aligning to keep theses two together, fate and luck are a sign that they need to stop control their feelings and fight for their love.

I loved this series and once more I enjoyed to keep it up with this group. Amy and Ollie are lovely and I was rooting for their happy ending.

This was a romantic and entertaining reading and I highly recommended if you like a sexy rugby player as a main character.

The 4th book in the professional players series and it was a great read really enjoyed it.Love Lyndsey's books.

It is Amy and Ollie's forbidden romance.

Amy is Eddie's little sister and Ollie is one of his friends and team mates.

When they meet the instant chemistry between them is explosive.Amy knows she cannot act on it and when Ollie finds out who Amy is he knows it cannot go anywhere.

When they start to work together it gets difficult to keep their distance from each other.

They eventually get to their happily ever after overcoming the obstacles in their way.

A romance with humour, steam, emotions, team mate banter, good friends, family ties and a sweet happily ever after.

I have mixed feelings about LOVE & OTHER FORBIDDEN THINGS. It looked like a sports (rugby) romance. There wasn’t much action in the sport itself, but the story was good from other perspectives.

Amy and Ollie had a forbidden (workplace) romance, and Amy was the little sister of Ollie’s best friend. This is my issue with the book. The drama of these two conditions was repeated over and over and overwhelmed the story.

I liked the character Ollie for having a moral compass. He didn’t want to sleep around, he didn’t want to hide their relationship from the boss or her brother. It’s definitely worth a read if you like closed door romances and drama.

This was a great read I could empathise with the older brother syndrome it is a nightmare when you are growing up

The way people treat each other though not always so good one thing happens to you and your branded for life I did feel her family belittled her somewhat as the youngest of four again I empathise it made me relive some of my own life incidents

Why do people always think they know what’s best for you ? We need to live and learn from our own choices

Thought provoking read loved it

Amy and Ollie have instant sizzling chemistry when they meet after his rugby match. Ollie is immediately enchanted, but Amy’s overprotective brother and Ollie’s teammate Eddie may throw a wrench into their romantic plans.

Amy is a strong willed woman and Ollie is a softy at heart, can they get out of their heads and over their pasts and make it happen?

Humor, steamy scenes and crazy families make for a great read. Couldn’t put it down!

Book 4 in Gallagher's The Professional Players Series - can be read as a standalone. This is Amy and Ollie's story and for me an addictive one. I've only read book 1 previously - and hope to read more in this series. Well written and captivating. These characters have a great dynamic and dialogue as well as the steamy chemistry between them. I adored this book and can't wait to see what's next from Gallegher!

This was again a great read. It was a nice love story about how Ollie and Amy fell in love. They have this undeniable attraction and connection, like it was fate. They both have secrets and troubles from their past but together they can conquer everything, although her brother Eddie is very protective over her. It sometimes bothered me that she didn’t want to say anything to him about their ‘secret’ relationship.

Love these stories! It is refreshing to read something not taking place in the U.S as well. A nice change of scenery

Who doesn't love a tough, muscle bound sexy Rugby player who is all heart! Ollie is the best type of man, a completely sincere sweetheart who can set your sheets on fire.

This was a very well written story with the perfect amount of humour and steam laced throughout. It all flowed effortlessly.

I liked the story and the characters. I am a romantic at heart so these types of books are generally winners for me. I had some issues with flow of the story telling. At times, it felt it the story was too wordy and this wordiness stalled the book. I still enjoyed the story but tightening up the flow would help.
