Growing up in Ontario, Canada, MJ was the only child of a single mom. MJ’s passion for the arts ignited at a young age as she wrote adventure stories and read them aloud to close family and friends. The dramatic arts became a focus in high school as an aid to understanding character motivation in her writing. Majoring in Theatre Production at University, with a minor in English, she went on to teach both elementary and high school for 10 years throughout Simcoe County.
MJ currently lives with her husband and son in Ontario, Canada. She keeps busy these days writing, helping Indie Authors, and talking about books as a local librarian. She firmly believes that if she hadn’t been born a Virgo, she would not be half as organized as necessary to accomplish everything in her daily agenda.
I enjoyed reading this well-written mystery set on the campus of an Ontario university. Lexie Knight finds a fascinating dissertation hidden in the wall of a dorm room. She is compelled to search for the M.Sc. student who wrote it. When her research reveals that the young author of the thesis died 30 years before defending it, Lexie digs deeper to discover why this young woman’s ground-breaking work was never acknowledged. When Lexie contacts the Chair of the Department to ask that the parents of the deceased student be informed of Lexie’s discovery, she becomes frustrated by the lack of action by the professor.
Lexie meets and is extremely attracted to student, David Kallis, who offers to help her solve this mystery. However, his clandestine actions create concern for Lexie as does his lack of commitment to their budding romance. She refuses to stop her investigation even when someone tries to stop her. Can she continue to trust David to keep her safe?
Lost Words attracted me in three ways - the title, the cover and the subject matter. After an entertaining introduction to the main protagonists, the story built quickly and as the mystery unfolded, it became a 'can't put it down' read. Lost Words is an intelligent, believable story, one that can be read in an afternoon. Disclosure: I was given an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review, and I honestly loved this story. I didn't guess who the villain was, nor was I even close. That kind of ending makes for a great mystery.
I recently finished an ARC copy of Lost Words by M.J. Moores. This tightly written masterpiece of mystery, thriller, and romance delivers a punch. When undergraduate student, Lexie, finds a fully written thesis hidden in the walls of an unused dorm room, she realizes she has discovered quite a valuable piece of research. Sadly, the owner, Natalie Williams, died thirty years before under some questionable circumstances. In her quest to find Natalie’s family to return the thesis, Lexi is aided by a handsome young man from campus security, David, a criminology student at the university. He is drawn in to the search because of his interest in helping solve the problem but, his interest ramps up when he discovers that Lexi—the lovely young lady he’s grown to admire—is the target of a stalker with bad intents. The real shock comes when the true villain is revealed. Set in a college town, with well-written and fully developed characters, this novel is a delight to read. The mystery and suspense draws the reader in right from the first page and continues its pull as conflict heats up and the atmosphere crackles with energy. The plot plays out nicely, while the romance—soft and subtle—is just the icing on the cake. If you like a good mystery with a touch of romance to spice things up, Moore delivers.
Lost Words hooked me with an intriguing and unique plot right from the start. The descriptive, well-written story focuses on the power of student, Lexie, who will stop at nothing to discover the meaning behind a former student's dissertation, hidden for decades, that she accidentally discovers.
The mystery of the story and Lexie's refusal to give up is what mainly keeps the reader engaged although there is the question of Lexie's love interest and participant in her sleuthing abilities, David. The two become interlinked in Lexie's quest for the truth, but just how much truth is there to David and his own mysterious actions? The puzzle makes this story a page-turner.
Just finished my ARC copy of book three in the Flawed Attraction series. University student Lexie stumbles into a decades old mystery. While trying to dig up the truth behind what happened to the dead student's thesis, Lexie meets David, a handsome SafeWalk volunteer.
The pair embark on a journey to find out the truth behind Natalie's death 30 years ago and why her thesis was never published. Lexie finds herself in danger as a stalker follows her around the city and campus following the few clues she's uncovered. Excitement builds as each page is turned.
I love a good mystery/romance that delves into the past, especially when a newly-discovered document is involved. The two main characters, Lexie and David, are endearing university students who have nothing in common but join forces to ensure justice for a long-dead student. The story takes place in a small university city I know well, and I enjoyed reading about familiar places. I would definitely read the next in this series.
I thoroughly enjoyed Lost Words. The author sets the scene well and from the beginning, I was pulled right in. Humour is threaded throughout, with the kind of suspense that keeps you engaged. I quickly became invested in the characters, rooting for them every step of the way. It's definitely a page-turner, given the underlying themes of justice, loyalty, and dedication. Add in a budding romance, a mysterious case to follow and just the right amount of drama, it has the ingredients to keep you wanting more!
Loved reading this campus mystery set in a local Ontario spot - Guelph University. Lots of popular places that regular visitors to Guelph will recognize. Readers will enjoy following the clues with Lexie as she sets out to solve the mystery of the Lost Words. Great mix of mystery, suspense and romance.
