The single most underrated manga in Shonen Jump right now. Nobody is talking about this masterpiece. If people were actually reading this, or if the Anime had kept releasing new seasons, this would be SO much more popular than it is. Kazue Kato is a mastermind. Not to mention, she's one of the best artists in Jump too.

¡No puedo esperar a leerlo!

I've finally caught up after semi binging this, and implore you all to read this incredible manga. The art is gorgeous, the characters and their relationships are unforgettable and the semi-slow burn of the plot is paced absolutely second to none

Aww those boys do love each other. I am glad for Yukio and Rin that they have come to an understanding about each other. I am also glad that Yukio is moving in a less self destructive direction. Now though Satan has a vessel on Assish and I am excited to see the huge team up to kick his ass.

The fight between Rin and Yukio comes to a close, and it's brilliant. I love when we get to the big emotional climax and it's just two dudes wailing on each other because they've got nothing left in them. No big powers, no funny quips, just punching each other in the face over and over again because they have nothing else left. And as their fight comes to a close, and the next part of the story begins in the wreck they leave, we suddenly take on a larger scale.

Up until now we've had demon portals and the fate of the world at stake, sure, but that never felt like a pressing concern. Things were happening in the background, schemes and conspiracies continued, everything was a small part of some larger game. Even the Rin/Yukio fight feels huge because of how invested we are in the characters but it's not like they're going to end the series over the outcome of their fight. No, we're now seeing some sort of end phase begin. We're finally getting everything thrown out in front of our eyes, we're seeing something that matters not in the long run but in the here and now. And it's exciting!

I feel that rating this on the same scale as everything else I’ve reviewed on here does very little justice to how much I love this series and these characters. Now I’m finally caught up I can gush about it and say this is one of my favourite shōunen series - maybe I just have a soft spot for it because it was one of my first animes and the first to make me so into it that I went back through and read the manga but I just think Blue Exorcist is so fun. It’s still going too which is a bonus for me because I get more Lewin Light content!

Yeah, this series has well gone the way of Jujutsu Kaisen but with TWINS—devil-possessed main character(s) and Doomsday scenario, just short of (at least so far—I've skipped a lot of volumes but the series feels like it's working its way there)...

I don't know. My spouse and I watched the anime when it was updating, but it's sort of one of those things where we just have something on to watch over meals vs. something we looked forward to seeing, especially given the filler VERY early on in the show. Even just last night, I was trying to think of the name of the series and came up with "Black Collar... Black... no... what the heck was it..."

So, clearly that's an indicator of it being past its prime and totally forgettable (though I'm still rather fond of Rin and Kuro despite having the worst time remembering what they're from is called).

Anyway, this is a bit farther beyond where the anime made it to date, and I'm not sure how much farther, though it's interesting since they jumped on making the series SO EARLY that they had to make SO MUCH FILLER to give the series time to catch up. Now they're behind! Figures.

This volume in specific starts off by mentioning it going back in time a little (for reasons that are irrelevant and impenetrable to a reader like me who skipped a bunch of volumes) and features a very long, violent argument between Rin and Yukio about who has the most right to be self-loathing and who hasn't been relying on the other, and they end up getting into an all-out fist fight—as you do, I guess—and learning a lot about each other through their fistsas you do, I guess.

Then it gets into the and all that actually feels somewhat anticlimactic since... this is retreading the same ground, honestly. It happened already! A STRANGELY LOT! So I kind of don't care anymore. The art is still good, consistently so, and Kuro is now drawn (when he IS drawn...) more like in the anime, without the snaggletooth. It's just not enough for me to justify keeping it around, with shelf space at a premium.

Recommended for anyone still following the series (though preferably after reading the prior books), less so if you also kind of burned out on even "comedic" apocalyptic scenarios that dragged on for too long.

The fight continues between Rin and Yukio, although now on the ground, having jumped off the airship which was about to crash. Rin has his sword back, and his hair has turned back to black. Maybe that’s a good sign of things to come? Rin is appalled to discover that Yukio has attempted suicide…many times! He is also furious that his brother has never said anything to him about anything! Yukio claims to be weak, says that Rin was the strong one, to which Rin replies, “If I’m strong, it’s because I had you!”

The other exorcists have begun to gather. First order of business is to find Lucifer and Dragelescu. Shima is there too. Trouble with Shima is you can never be sure which side he’s playing for at any given time. When Light finds Dragulescu, the madman dares Light to open the storage unit. Light has a feeling that would not be a good thing.

Yukio reports to Light, prepared to face his punishment for running off to the Illuminati, but none is forthcoming. When Light tells Rin they are searching the crash site for Satan, Yukio protests that he should not be there then. You know, that whole Satan is in my eye thing. The next day, Rin and Yukio make up and all is well. But hey, there seems to be someone inside the storage unit. What? Light thinks it’s probably a replicant from the laboratory in Romania. Why don’t we look and see? To their shock, it’s Father Fujimoto! Well, a newer younger version of him. Yukio immediately claps his hand over his possessed eye.

Don’t look, Yukio, don’t look!

And now, enter Lucifer and his cohorts! And Lucifer is looking mighty fine, if I do say so.They are determined to force Yukio to look at the new Fujimoto so that Satan can enter his new vessel.

Don’t look, Yukio, don’t look!

Damn, that didn’t go well.

Meanwhile, Shiemi becomes aware of what has transpired. It’s all about to get real. But wait, another player has just entered the game…

Remember how I wished things would move along a little faster? They sure are now. Satan is back in play, looking like Father Fujimoto. Can he be contained? Is this the beginning of the end? How will Yukio handle the knowledge that he contributed to this fiasco by looking when he shouldn’t have? Can Sir Pheles save the day?

Can’t wait for the next volume (but I’ll have to). Please, not too long, okay?

Yukio to Rin- "Do you really think I can keep living like this?"

Rin's brotherly and sweet response- "Yes, that's what I want you to do!"

Wow, their sibling dynamic is powerful and well-developed.

Aside from that, I was a little disappointed that Rin didn't actually beat up Yukio, but hey, at least he got one good punch in. Rin's a better person than I am, lol. Not that I would actually beat up Yukio myself if he were a real person, but I'd at least give him the silent treatment before eventually forgiving him. Sorry, but his self-loathing and self-hate doesn't excuse his reckless behavior. But, after reading this, I hate Yukio less now, but I'm still waiting for him to see Shiemi again and apologize to her.

Shiemi's role in all this was finally revealed. So she basically has to defeat Amaimon now, huh? Interesting...I guess her and Amaimon never really getting along was foreshadowing???

I'm still confused on whose side Shima's on. Is he actually one of the good guys? Maybe I'm dumb but I don't know where his true loyalties lie.

Lightning continues to be one of my newer favorite characters, too.

Mephiso also showing up at the last minute was hilarious and so in character for him: "Sorry to keep you waiting...all you Mephisto fans out there! Wasn't it about time I showed up?" So funny and made it seem a bit less serious lol. I mean, Satan has a vessel now, and it's worse that it looks exactly like Fujimoto.

This was absolutely incredibleeee. Not just the story but the way the main battle sequence in this is drawn is just???? AMAZING? Like don't get me wrong drawing manga must be hard as hell and I could never do it but I can just tell that this art is leagues above a lot of the other manga I've read. I can tell we're getting into the final arc here and OHHH BOY I'm ready. I would have probably read this volume a long time ago but Kazue Kato went on hiatus for a bit to work on another project but I think she's back! I think volume 28 comes out sometime in America this year.

The only thing I will say (and this isn't exclusive to Blue Exorcist this is just all manga) is that because I read this so spaced out I often forget some of the plot points--and this plot is prettttty complex, so there are sequences where I'm like wait huh?? But that's not really the author's fault. Maybe one day if this is all made into an anime I can binge it or when it's all out I can re-read it all and grasp some of the plot points a bit better.

But yeah--this was fantastic and I'm so PUMPED--I'm so happy that I've stuck with this manga and that it just keeps getting better and better. WOW.

A lot of emotional stuff as we see Rin and Yukio finally resolve all of their issues and it was very nicely paste and it feels very natural how they did it. I also like their is a bit of a calm even if I wished it lasted a bit longer but the build up for the final battle was really nice as we finally get to see Satan show up in a perfect body and I do love that Mephisto shows up when all hope seems lost and even breaks the fourth wall a little and brings in reinforcements. It does a really nice job to get people excited for the final battle.

Rin and Yukio are reunited and decide to battle.

After several volumes of backstory, I wanted a lot more 'the gang is reunited' and a lot less 'let's spend half a book slugging each other'. Then the group gets to eat gumbo together and just begin to spend some quality time and then pages and pages of 'Satan has arisen and is destroying the earth so let's all go and destroy him'. This is still good but too frenetic. If you took four volumes to give backstory on parents, you could spend a few more pages on current day relationships.

Not sure why but not just this volume but the last few I hadn't been looking forward to the next one as much as I was when I first picked up the series. Like it wasn't awful or anything like that just I found my excitement for it low and if I had a group of manga it wouldn't be one I grabbed just that it was the only one left of the bunch.
I still felt that way with this one, but after reading it I can actually say I'm looking forward to the next one quite a bit!

The brothers brawling this out was appropriately emotionally charged and, surprisingly, brought about a fantastic wrap-up of this arc. Their relationship is so important to me, as a reader, and to the series as a story.

I feel like this would have been one of the better moments for the series to go into a lull again but what it is doing might work, still. And it might happen still since I am yet to read ahead; a time to re-group would be appropriate, all things considered.

ON osiąga swoje...

Wizualnie jest to świetna robota, pieszcząca oko w stopniu, jakim bym zawsze chciał. Coś niesamowitego. A w obwodzie pozostaje jeszcze kilka tomików. Nic tylko zacierać rączki.

The power of brotherly love is on full display here in this volume, and after beating some sense into each other, Yukio and Rin are finally one strong unit. And not a moment too soon, because Lucifer’s hard work has proved to be successful and now Satan has finally got himself a vessel that is strong enough for him to exist in, and all hell is, literally, breaking loose.

!!!!!!!!!! The last chapter were so full of thrilling surprising!

I really appreciate that even with the jokes, there was a good conversation (well, as good as you can get with these idiots) on suicide and responsability and self-isolation. That said, I think younger readers would benefit from talking about the contents with their parent or something, though.

Honestly this manga has been in my life since I was a teenager and to see it coming to an end is such an honor!
To me Blue Exorcist is a masterpiece, it got action, friendship, and talks about mental health! This volume really broke my heart for Yukio, but to see his growth and him coming to terms with his flaws and shortcomings was just what we all been waiting. And Rin as the older brother, never gave up on Yukio.
I can’t wait to see how the author will end this series!

Wonderful conclusion the Rin and Yukio's. Still not exactly sure how I feel about the fact that everyone is accepting Yukio coming back without at least the tiniest of qualms, but I think the fact that everything falls to shit immediately after at least makes things poetic. The art also went super hard in this particular volume.
