It was supposed to be my happily ever after. For the first time in a long time, there was a promise of peace. So my Italian heirs and I made plans—big, life-changing plans, and tried to move on with our lives.
But I was naive to think that there weren’t snakes lying in the grass, just waiting for the opportune time to strike. It was a blow no one saw coming.
We didn’t start this war, but with the help of our unexpected allies, we’re sure as h*ll going to end it. I vowed that I would never sit idle while my family is in danger. And I never break a promise.
Penelope Black lives in the Midwest with her husband and two tiny humans. When she's not writing, she enjoys over-the-top action movies, iced chai lattes, and soaking up the sun in her backyard with a good book.
Penelope brings us this novella, to tie up ends for the five families series. I loved reading the different povs of Maddie and her boys. Romantic and spicy. A perfect ending.
I'm eager to now read Wrens story with the insights Penelope gave us to some of it's characters.
Penelope Black has done it again!!!! This was an amazing novella about Maddie and her guys that sets the stage for her upcoming book The Wren that comes out this summer. Lainey and her guys make an appearance and so does Mary, even though with Mary, I want to slap her and then hug her.
This is a novella set after the end of Vicious Reign, the third full length book of the Five Families series. Madison has dropped the pregnancy bomb on them and they are still dealing with the “what happens now” after the death of Matteo, Leo and Rafe’s father. They decide to get married so Matteo can take over as head of the Five Families rightfully and because none of them could imagine living another day without one another. They get married in Vegas with Maddie’s new found brothers as well as Lainey and her men. Maddie’s sister Mary stops by and she is in a very dark place and makes me wonder what has happened to her while we have been wrapped up in Maddie and Lainey’s stories. The epilogue gives us a glimpse into the King sisters series coming our way and cannot wait to see what these smart, sassy and ruthless women get themselves into.
This was a fantastic short and sweet conclusion to Maddie and her mafia men’s story. It was everything I wanted for Maddie as she deserved to get her happy ever after and it was perfect!
There was a little bit of drama, lots of emotions, some suspense and a whole lot of deliciously steamy moments that had me melting!
I loved it. And now I am absolutely excited about learning more about the King sisters.
So I jumped into this book without realizing I haven’t read the rest of the series… face palm! But that’s really ok. I feel like I got the gist of what’s going on in their world! Maddie and her boys are so electrifying. Their chemistry is something that wet dreams are made of! I’m excited to go back and read the series!!
I love this novella. It feels like a good mix of continuing Maddies story while getting us excited for the next book in the shared world. I like the extra POVs we got to see. The Santorini brothers have me interested and I can’t wait to read more about them.
I’m so glad this was added to the series! It wrapped things up and answered questions I had at the end of the 3rd book! We also got a group scene. Still not the spiciest RH I’ve read but truly enjoyed the characters and plot!
Maddie thought that things would calm down now , but as usual there is always something. Maddie, Mateo, Dante, Leo, and Rafael have to come up with a plan. Great characters and storyline Highly recommended Amazing Book I absolutely love the characters in this book and there are definitely surprise characters you will love seeing again. Oh yeah and a twist.
I loved being able to see how the guys each reacted to Maddie’s pregnancy. They’re all such amazing men so of course they’re great dads. They have all come such a long since the first book. I loved watching them all grow, both on their own and together as a unit. Beautiful story!!
This is part of a series, and although you don’t need to read the previous books, I’m definitely going back. We meet up with lots of other characters that I assume are in the other books. And as I really liked this short story, I’d like to know more 😉
So basically this is the end to the series, but as I’m going to read the series backwards, I’ll have to go in blind….
Maddison (Maddie/Cherry or Raven depending on who is talking to her) which does make it a little confusing. Is the center of their world, but I get the feeling something happened in a previous book to make her jumpy, so she needs to see one of her men at all times to feel safe! What the hell happened?
Matteo Rossi is the oldest brother and head of the “Rossi family.” A lot of responsibility on those shoulders, but with the help of his brothers and best friend he protects Maddie the best way he can. And tries to bring the five families back in line.
Rafael (Rafe/Aries) brother to Matteo is Maddie’s protector, hard as nails to everyone but his girl. Head of security
Leo is the baby of the bunch, the joker the one who puts a smile on his girl’s face. He’s had to face his father a few times (and has scars to prove it) but with that all in their past (we hope) he can just live for the moment.
Dante might be Matteo’s best friend and his “Underboss” but Maddie rules him, he’s died for her (and apparently something like that might have happened!)
So this story essentially is just an epilogue to their main story (which I so need to read) Madison(Cherry/Raven) and her quartet of hot men. There is a surprise that no one expects, but everyone is willing to lay their lives down for. But with enemies still out to end this new family, Matteo is going to have to pull all the stops out, and end this war once and for all!
As I said, I haven’t read the previous books, but this has whetted my appetite for more of the Rossi family, and indeed the back catalogue of the authors books!
A wedding in Vegas that has lots of steamy moments. A few funny moments and an ending that thinks there is a new series in the pipeline.
The last installment in the Five Families series and it does not disappoint. This is a novella that takes place between the last chapter and the epilogue of Vicious Reign. It was the perfect ending to their story. The love between Madison and her men was clear and on full display. Like I said in my review for the previous 3 books, Penelope does an amazing job describing Madison’s connections with each of the guys. This book made me dislike Mary even more than I did before. I hope when her book is released that opinion can change because I know she’s acting like that because she’s going through her own shit but she comes off as judgemental and uncaring.
I also can’t wait to learn more about Madison’s brothers which will be explained in the next series The King Sisters.
I love how Penelope constantly talks about going against the patriarchy and with her reverse harem trope she’s very “Girl Power” forward.
Penelope Black has quickly jumped to the top of my fave author list.
After the ending of Vicious Reign, for which, in my opinion was a little bit rushed Penelope Black mentioned a future novella that would conclude the series. As usual with this author's books, Fractures Dynasty DID NOT DISAPPOINT! I LOVED every single moment of this book. It left me feeling satisfied and happy to see Maddie with her husbands. YES - you're reading that right - HUSBANDS.
I loved the cameos we got from The Brotherhood series and the short return of Mary. I still have a bunch of questions regarding this twin and her backstory but I'm guessing we will have a whole different series with Mary and hopefully the MC she was staying at.
TALK ABOUT AN EPILOGUE!! To best understand what's going on in the epilogue and to get as hypes up as me, I suggest read The Brotherhood series as well as the Five Families. They're both amazing series and I'm super exited for The King Sisters series coming this summer!
Overall, and I believe you can read my love and excitement, I adore this series! All the books are a one-seating read for me. Penelope Blank has a way to suck me into her stories and miss the world when I finish each book.
This is a little Novella that gives you a few surprises along the way. You have Maddie and her guys, cousin Lainey and her men, and Maddie's brothers who she still doesn't know very well, all make appearances in this book. With a surprises at the end that sets up her next series the Wren.
If you like multiple POVs and tons of spicy drama then get ready because this little Novella packs a punch and pulls you into this crazy mafia families and will have you wanting more. This is an easy read that introduces a few new people and gives you a little glimpse of what's to still come.
I voluntarily signed up for an ARC to give an honest review with nothing to gain. I can honestly say this is a quick but eventful story that pulls you in and has you questioning what is happening and about to happen along the way. If you love mafia and RH this is a great read. It has a lot of moving parts but easy enough to follow. So buckle up and get ready for some very interesting moments to unfold in this one.
I can’t believe this is it, god I’m gonna miss my guys and Maddie, but the ending left me with promises of more abs I cannot wait for it. This novella was incredible, but hey, Penelope never disappoints, she knows the way to my heart, and she makes sure that all her characters steals a piece from it. I cannot get over the fact that we got to experience them getting married. Do I still have a favorite? It’s hard to choose so I’m gonna take them all. Dante, Rafael, Matteo, and Leo will always be mine men, I’ll shared with Maddie when I feel like it lol. I loved how we got to see little cliffs of Maddie’s brothers and the King’s sister, definitely cannot wait for those stories to come alive. Penelope you did it again, I’m so proud of you and all the things you keep accomplishing, all the hearts you’re stealing with your beautiful books, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for you to come. I’m incredibly lucky and proud to be one of the Songbirds.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
When Vicious Reign’s ended we were shown Maddie’s future with her men, but with the jump to the future there were still questions of how things all played out. Well with Fracture Dynasty we were given that missing piece.
Set right after the event of VR we follow Maddie and her men figuring out what the immediate next step is. This was fun and spicy with lots of set up for what’s to come next from Penelope and this world.
My heart aches for Maddie with how Mary treats her. I know Penelope is setting up a great story arch there but Mary is gonna have some really groveling to do for how she’s been to Maddie. But I have a feeling we’re gonna be waiting a little while with the set up for The Wren. What a good set up to get us interested in them. I can not wait for that series to start!
Penelope has quickly become an auto buy author for me and I can not wait to see what she gives us next.
Thank you Penelope for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Penelope Black did her thing!! This novella was exactly what we needed for Cherry and her men. From the beginning to end, it was written so that you would want more of these characteristics but sadly it has to come to an end. I loved how Penelope did that thing at the ending 👀 lol because now I’m pumped for what is next to come. I did wish that we could have seen how everything unfolded with the war but the epilogue was worth it. I am truly going to miss those men and of course Cherry herself……manly the men lol. Fractured Dynasty starts off where Vicious Reign ended. It continues with an emotional start but it just gets better and better…if you know what I mean 😈….All in all, this novella gave me closure that I didn’t know I needed especially since some hints were given about what’s next. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!! 🖤 Happy Reading!!!😈
Review This is a novella set after the end of "Vicious Reign" in Penelope's Five Families Series. This is not a standalone and I recommend reading the previous 3 books prior to reading this one.
After reading Penelope's Irish Mafia Brotherhood series, and The 3 books in this Five Families series.....this novella was like the cherry on top of a huge reverse harem sundae.
In this novella, you'll have appearances from Maddie and her 4 guys , her cousin Lainey and her 3 men, and Maddie's brothers.
This novella shows the HEA I wanted to see from Maddie and her men. I always enjoy reading the little insights events that show how a RH group grows together. This book was exciting and spicy and had a surprise at the end that set up what is coming next from Penelope Black.
If you love mafia and RH this series a great read.
I looooved seeing how Maddie, Matteo, Dante, Leo and Aries got married! The events prior to Vicious Queens prologue did not disappoint. Maddie definitely took what she wanted!
The interactions with Maddie’s newly discovered brothers added a nice layer to the story. It is an excellent set up for the King sister stories. Fractured Dynasty has me really excited for The Wren.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Penelope Black did not hold back - ALL. THE. SPICE. I was here for it. Fractured Dynasty is a fun look into the new dynamics between Maddie, Matteo, Dante and Leo. They are adjusting and learning to find a balance together. I always enjoy the insights into how a group grows together. Highly recommend - came for more Maddie (and my fave man Dante 😉), left really excited about The Wren (bring on the King sisters!!!)
“When we get married, Cherry, it’s not going to be because some patriarchal bullshit rules demand it of us. It’s going to be because I can’t stand the thought of walking this earth without you as my wife for a second longer.”
My heart. This book was exactly what we needed to wrap up The Five Families series. I feel like I was left with so many questions after the epilogue in Vicious Reign! Penelope has does a fantastic job painting a clear picture of Maddie’s relationships with her men and I think this series can make you question your own relationship even if you’re happy 😂.
I was really happy to see Lainey and The Brotherhood back in this book. I hope in The King Sisters series, or a future series, we will get to see more of Mary and hear her story.
When it comes to 🌶 🌶, this is the hottest book of the series !
In general I'm not a fan of novellas. They usually come across as underdeveloped and rushed, but I had so many questions after reading Vicious Reign that I had hopes this book would hold the answers. Sadly it did not. I am a big fan of The Brotherhood Series, and have read it multiple times, so maybe I had unrealistic expectations for the Five Families Series. The series lacked the interesting and endearing characters, substance and storyline that The Brotherhood has. It wasn't a total loss though. I did appreciate the cameos from Alaina and the Fitzgeralds, as well as Mary in this story. I also really enjoyed the epilogue with a fun view into future of both families. I loved the King sisters in The Brotherhood Series and am hopeful their series will get things back on track.
Penelope Black became an "automatic buy" author for me after reading the brotherhood series, and that continued with the five family series and this extra novella. I am a glutton for gimme ALL the books. I need all the information and absolutely love this extra piece that we got to see Lainey and her men! I'm super excited to see what happens with The Wren and the lead up with how this novella left us.
I am NOT happy with Mary, and how she treats Maddie, I know that this will lead us in the best direction for her books and to see what exactly has gone on that we weren't informed of. I also love that Penelope sets us up for her next books, she's setting us up but not giving away too much.
I hope that we see more of Maddie & Lainey and their guys in future books. More crossovers to see what happens and how they all work together. Can't wait to see what happens next!
Fractured Dynasty (Book 4 of the Italian Mafia Series - A Novella) by Penelope Black
5/5 ⭐️ 5/5 🌶️
This book I honestly would ready before you read the extended epilogues in the 3rd book so it will all make a little bit of sense but I liked this.
It was nice to see the families and peak a little bit more into the other families as well.
I’m a huge fan of a happily ever after.
Had I known that there was a series before this one called like Sully, Wolf etc I would’ve read that one first, before this one so that I would’ve understood more of the information.
The only thing I don’t like is that we don’t know what is going on with Maddie’s sister Mary and I’m genuinely confused on where that plot line is going or if it is ever going to be finished, but we shall see.
For those that are always looking for a little more after finishing a series, you definitely get it with Fractured Dynasty. Though it is Maddie and her men, the readers are the ones that get the wedding present!
It’s time to plan a wedding and we know that is never easy when it comes to this group. With Angelo gone now, Matteo needs to be married to take over the Family. Maddie learns this in passing and makes the decision its time and where better than Sin City.
This novella is perfect! We get this beautiful extra epilogue that gives us the head of the Five Families, The Brotherhood, Maddie’s twin sister Mary, the Santorini brothers as well as a glimpse at those phenomenal King sisters. I love when we get little easter eggs for future books. Amazing as usual Penelope!
A short look into Maddie and the guy’s lives after the last book.
Maddie is still navigating the shocking reveal of her family lineage. It puts her in more danger and she doesn’t need that right now. Luckily the guys are there for her.
I liked seeing a snippet of their life as they become a married quintet. They deserve the happiness. But at times I wasn’t happy with Maddie especially in regards to her relationship with her sister Mary. What little insight we’re getting into her story arc is insane. Looks like it will be heartbreaking and poignant.
The book ends with a lead in to a book featuring the King sisters. And wow is all I can say.
* I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.
The perfect friggin novella we all damn needed to read. The five families are unreal and i adore how Penelope always drops little teasers linking her series!
------------- The spice, the romance, the undeniable love continues to shine through and will continue to make your heart grow.
This is a novella that neatly ties up the bow of the Five Families Series.
It took me longer to read this book since it's been awhile since I actually read the first books in this series. I had to go back and re-read everything so that I could catch up. I didn't expect too much out of this book since it is a novella, it's a cute touch up, but I did get more out of this book than I thought I would.
Penelope Black has really grown as an author and you can tell by the characters. The fact that I felt involved in a novella is something that doesn't happen often for me. And maybe the fact that I read through the previous books before reading this helped but I was totally immersed. Really great job!
