I wanted to love this, but for some reason, I didn't love it the way I thought I would. I'm not sure if it's because I came in with the expectation of wanting something similar to Kaiju No. 8, but with aliens, or if it was just something else altogether.
I DID like the story though! The art is absolutely stunning and it's one of those reads where even if you're not feeling extremely invested, you're feeling extremely invested in the gorgeous art because this volume is absolutely amazing inside and out! I definitely took my time appreciating many of the panels!
While I liked the story, I LOVED Akira! There was a double-page spread where I DEEPLY felt his pain and his determination. When it comes to a backstory that is EXTREMELY similar to my own life backstory, Akira takes the win officially (Tohru from Fruits Basket was number one before this). It honestly brought tears to my eyes because it has been a long timeeee since I have felt that kind of pain and determination of never wanting anyone to ever miss the chance to say goodbye to a loved one(s).
Overall, I don't know why I wasn't hooked on this story. Akira is an extremely compelling main lead and really liked the entire cast of characters, but I just couldn't get sucked into it. Would still recommend if you're looking for an emotional-tugging alien-fighting kind of story though! Plus, the art is incredible!
4.5 stars. Very interesting first volume! It gives off slight "Men in Black" vibes which I very much enjoyed. I enjoyed the characters and am intrigued by them and their many, many secrets...
While sometimes the story was a bit over the top, I did very much enjoy this, and I'm excited to see how this series is going to progress 🙌
I'm honestly not the type who reads these kinds of mangas, I mean I'm usually the type who just likes to read school life and things like that. So why give this one a high rating? For some reason there's more to this story than meets the eye. The first chapter was ok, but by the time the second chapter and especially the third chapter, I was hooked so bad and made me look forward to the next volume already. It helps that the art is splendidly drawn too. Overall, I'm super excited for the next volume, there were many questions and possibilities left here that you just have to read the next volume to find out more.
02/01/2024: THE COVER???? HELLO??? so far it's interesting! although it has the same cliché overpowered but hidden abilities of the mc, the setting and plot is so gripping
Come primo volume è molto introduttivo, ma allo stesso tempo ci vengono date tante informazioni abbastanza ben spiegate. Inoltre ci pone già un quesito davvero intrigante. Disegni stupendi. Veramente tanto.
I personally didn't know which chapter for volume 1. But I'm still excited with the story even tho the character's development was quite slow at first. Their senior, Mamiya-san is so mysterious and feel villain. I'm looking forward with another volume!
This was a total cover buy! I mean look at it! It grabbed my attention in the first chapter. It was a fun read and I really love our two main characters. It reminds me a lot of Men in Black which I absolutely love. I cannot wait to find out what happens next. I will be picking up the next volume as soon as possible.
Easily one of my new favorite reads. Tokyo Aliens is like the anime version of Men in Black I never knew I needed 😂 If you enjoyed Blood Blockage Battlefront (Kekkai Sensen) then you'll definitely love this series!
The comedy is A+++, the artwork/characters are so gorgeous I have fanned myself many a time 😂 The action and world building is awesome too. I'm a sucker for the secret organization theme.
I can't wait to learn more about all the characters, especially Akira! Also, if you pick up the volume, don't forget to check the last page for a hilarious surprise from the author/artist 😂 NAOE is a gem.
⚡👽 Content 👽⚡
Violence: Strong. Expect a lot of blood and severed body parts
Language: Moderate
Smexy stuff: a scantly clad character in a few scenes, shower scenes (nothing shown except booty), and some crude humor
This is going to be a new beloved series, I can already tell.
This is like Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man meets No.6. I immediately ordered vol. 2. I can’t wait!
The character dynamics are fantastic so far, especially between Sho and Gunji. I heard that this series is queer as well, which makes it unique compared to the standard straight protagonists in most shounen mangas.
I would absolutely salivate if this became an anime. More people should read this series!!
EDIT: This is not BL >:( just found out on Reddit. It feels like the storyline of one though- that train scene, the way they look at each other, Sho’s clear pain about something related to Gunji, and them be partnered up at the end. Honestly would be even better if BL.

I picked this up on a whim when I didn't find anything else to buy on a trip to the bookstore, so I wasn't expecting much. This is also not my normal read. However, I was pleasantly delighted and entertained! The character design and art are a tad generic but I liked the witty humor and some classic character tropes of the cool guy who's too serious and the dumb one who's scared and brave. The author's notes on aliens at the end is cute and gives the readers a "fan service" drawing at the end which I thought was funny. Definitely worth the read if you're looking for something light and funny between your normal manga choices 😁
Wanted to read this series because of the hot men on the covers 👀✨️ but surprisingly, I got more than just that! I would say that the hot-looking characters were distracting, but the plot was still engaging enough for me to enjoy. It has a Men in Black vibe to it, and it seemed that the main character, Akira, has more secrets about himself that he did not even know. So far, other characters are also pretty intriguing; I can't wait to read the other volumes next!
Follows the "unsuspecting main character accidentally gets involved in a powerful organization operating in the shadows of the normal world" formula a bit too closely without anything that particularly stands out. That said the story is clearly still trying to set things up and I'm still curious on what it's gonna lead up to
This was a bit choppy and just really boring… I ended up skimming most of it, I won’t lie. The main premise is just this kid who wants to avenge his dad who was killed by aliens but the kid finds out he’s an alien.
The beginning was quite choppy and all over the place, and I didn’t care for any of the characters or the plot.
This was a fast-paced read! The idea of aliens living among us, disguised as humans, was intriguing. I also liked the idea that there is a whole hidden world created to monitor and regulate them. There was a lot of mysterious and serious vibes in this volume, but also some humorous moments! I'm looking forward to volume 2!
Great art and well-designed characters. Somewhat familiar as it exhibits shades of Men in Black. Sho and Akira make great companions. Good balance between action and emotion. Looking forward to the next volume.
I really liked it. I was thinking the kid was Hakugin so the one that killed his dad but now I'm not so sure he is Hakugin... Although still haven't ruled out that he could be the one to have killed him. Tragic backstory and all that.
im super intrigued. loving the dialogue asw as the mc! i sympathized with him so hard and that was so strange because it was only volume 1 but i feel like this was illustrated and executed brilliantly. so excited to continue reading.
also AMAMIYA WHY DO YOU LOOK LIKE THAT. SOOOO FUCKING FINE 🤭🩷
[3.25] Went into this with zero expectations since it wasn’t something I’d ever really heard about before but wow I ended up having such a good time with it. It totally caught me off guard, the whole thing was way more exciting than I expected. Consider me officially hooked.
Not bad. It feels like a different version of bsd. The main character is a little too quirky and unconfident and the side character feels too stereotypical like the guy who's way better at everything and supposed to be that character everyone simps😂 The story is good though
