4/5 🌟

I think I liked this more the Very Happy which was written by the same author with the same theme in terms of the whole ambiance. To be honest, this novel and Very Happy are pretty similar in a lot of aspects but I think I would choose this a bit more.

Gongxi Qiao, even though not as powerful and rich as Xi Qing, he can still hold his own and I don't really believe that without Xi Qing, he would be nothing. I can actually see how he can handle everything with his own skills. It was actually Xi Qing's insecurity that he thought Xiao Qiao is very independent to the point that he's no use for him. I loved how the transition from them being strangers to being friends and eventually being lovers, it's smooth and very natural. I also loved the way the confession was handled. It can actually be called a failed confession in Xi Qing's perspective because he was rejected but I do think that it wasn't a failure at all. His confession was rejected by Xiao Qiao but his actual feelings weren't. I loved that Xiao Qiao didn't accept him right away not because he doesn't have feelings for him but because he thought Xi Qing doesn't know him well enough and has given him time to know him more first, that if Xi Qing still choose to be by his side even after knowing the real him, he would be the one to take the initiative to step forward and hold his hand. Those parts were actually conveyed very realistically.

Also, I loved the Xiao Qiao's parents so much for being so cool and open-minded!!

The only thing I noticed is that Xiao Qiao's mind as an MC is too quiet. It was supposed to be his POV and it's the chance for the readers to know more about him through his perspective and his thought, but I barely know about him and what's going on in his mind. It was like even us readers are not allowed to take a peek into his mind and heart. I rarely encounter a POV like that.

There are a few trigger warnings though, such as suicide, discrimination and sexual assault, nothing foreign when it comes to the real entertainment business. Though the plot is still very simple, it was portrayed better in this novel than in Very Happy, so I'm pleased. But I still highly recommend both novels because both are fun and easy to read.

This was simply your typical showbiz chinese bl web novel with a Gary Stu main character and a big boss love interest with little to no conflict, just pure fluff. It was what I was looking and craving for and I got it. So you won't see me complaining.🤣

Another reread. Just a chill journey of our MC as an actor. Retaining the rating of 4 ⭐️ . ☺️

Re-read: Dec 11, 2023

Finally read the completely translated version. It was a smooth sailing novel and just chill. For this reread, I will up the rating from 3.75⭐️ to 4 ⭐️. 🤗
------------------------------------
Actual rating: 3.75⭐

The translation for this one is still ongoing as of posting. I read the mtl version of the remaining chapters that weren't yet translated. It was hard reading the mtl version but I was able to finish it.😀

Our MC died and reincarnated into the modern world. He has memories of his past since birth. He grew up in a very loving family. This is his journey as he tried to become an actor.

There are lots of scheming and face slappings in the book that are common on books with a setting in an entertainment industry. There are lots of cannon fodders too.

I love the concepts of the movies and tv series where our MC starred in. I just feel bad that he went the 'elite' way making him reject joining variety shows. It could have been fun.🥲

There are a few funny moments in the book and also one emotional moment. The plot is kinda static for me, with just a few bumps here and there. The MC is too OP to be honest.😅

The romance is bland. Sorry.✌

All in all, a bit interesting but just an okay read...

Pretty standard entertainment industry danmei. not too much dog blood, pretty interesting background for the MC that gives some justification for his Mary Sue vibes, happy family life for the MC which is like suprisingly rare for some reason.

ML is very classic ML, I'd say he's definitely one of the more morally sane one's but the bar isn't that high for the danmei genre really. He only acts when MC is slandered, and only goes to punishing lengths if the person deserves it, same applies to the MC's revenge plots.

Antagonists are kinda shallow, but the author does give some reasoning behind their actions, which depending on the antagonist, either makes sense or doesn't. The dog blood doesn't get particularly heavy in the beginning until the end where one of the antagonists is just a scum of a human is revealed, but he's dealt with pretty well so its fine.

Also, theres a good amount of Chinese propaganda(but not really specified chinese propaganda since the names of the countries are changed but it's pretty obvious which is which) when it comes to the award ceremonies and competitions just like any other entertainment industry danmei really, but it's ignorable if you treat it like a little easter egg where the Author is just trying their best not to get put in jail for producing BL by pacifying anyone who may think of reporting with a "haha look im promoting the country so its fine right?"

Overall, if you don't like reading about the MC and ML suffering for no reason this book is a good one. light read, some plot points are just kinda forgotten and left with no conclusion. eh its fine

This is a light novel set in the entertainment industry with a lot of face slapping from our two perfect main characters. The MC is Gongxi Qiao, a rich second generation who was a scheming minister from historical China in his past life and wants to use the acting skills he built up to enter the entertainment industry in his modern life. The ML, Xi Qing, is the head of the prestigious Xi business family that no one dares to anger or cross.

The entire story follows GXQ as he progresses through the entertainment circle from a small supporting actor to an internationally renowned film emperor. Of course, along the way there are a lot of rival actors that are jealous of his meteoric rise and try to put him down in various ways, some more subtly than others, but between GXQ and XQ, they don't let anything slide and each rival gets their just desserts served.

I enjoyed the novel for the most part, though I did think both the MC and ML are too perfect and capable. Every time we learn something new about GXQ and the reporters and the public freak out over it, I'm like, here we go again... The romance was okay but nothing amazing. They don't interact much initially as they're in completely different industries, and it's only a couple of chance encounters that makes XQ take interest in GXQ. Even after they start "interacting" more, a lot of it is through text messages as they're both busy with work, and it's only after XQ realizes his feelings that he more actively pursues XQ by physically going to where he is.

ahh!! this was so so good!! ik some ppl dislike when an MC is 'op' but I honestly really enjoyed it in this sense.

usually in showbiz danmei, we see the MC come from a poor or upsetting background and claw his way to the top with his own efforts and hard work, whilst also being slandered from not coming from a powerful family when he becomes more and more famous

or we see an MC who actually does have a powerful background but instead hides it?? like okay I get the moral high ground but let's be realistic here the entertainment industry is gruelling and difficult, what's wrong with using your background as long as you aren't harming anyone?

so personally, I'm very happy that Gongxi Qiao didn't hide the fact that he was a rich second generation!! yes let everyone know he is a wealthy, filial tycoon!!

also loved how he was good at everything. calligraphy? check. painting? check. singing? check. acting? check.

xiao qiao truly is a 360 male god!! previously reading the author's other work Very Happy, I enjoyed seeing the MC being spoilt and doted on from the very begin.

there's some face slapping as customary to a showbiz danmei but honestly overall the romance and the plot flow quite nicely and the novel wraps up at exactly 100 chaps! not too long tbh!!

really really enjoyed this honestly don't have anything negative to say about it teehee!!

This book was, in a word, boring. I've actually read another book by the author, Very Happy, that I really enjoyed at the time although it was super Gary Stu. So when I read that this one was Gary Stu as well, I figured I knew what I was getting myself in for. I didn't. I really didn't. This villains were the dumbest of all dumb, relentlessly trying (and failing) to pit the MC despite "realizing" multiple times that they were nowhere near his match. Everyone who is a somewhat good person instantly thinks MC is the greatest thing that has ever existed anywhere, ever. He has one web drama that blows up and all of a sudden he is the most wanted actor ever, while additionally no one has ever heard of him so he can continually makes waves. He's not only the best actor ever, he's also the best calligrapher ever, the best painter ever, the best historian ever, and the best student ever, with the best family ever, and he's the most gentlemanly person ever, and all of the people who don't like him are clearly trash and not worth even considering.
It makes me scared to even look at Very Happy again, tbh. Was I just in a perfect frame of mind to read a book this bad and think it was good?

I liked this novel - the main character was a bit op and the past life was not really fleshed out other than as background for why the main character was so op. The ending was also extremely abrupt - it felt like the author had lost direction and decided to tie up the story at a nice round number.

However I thought the characters were lovely and the romance was a gentle, slow realization. I liked the gradual falling in love and sly realization between the two that they might make a good match.

I also liked how balanced the revenge and face slapping was. The Mc is hard working in a lazy way and makes sure to allow others to live, but not be a doormat.

I thought there was quite a bit of nationalism in this story, but not in a way that stepped on other countries the way that some novels might.

Overall, I thought this was a fun read, without much deep insight, but with a couple interesting characters.

The most skilled palace minister in an ancient dynasty, reincarnates as a hard working second generation wealthy becoming a promising young actor and love interest of a stone faced young CEO.

The highlight is the loving and caring slow build relationship between the main BL couple. There is mild backstabbing and some mediocre scheming against the protagonist. There are a few tragic chapters as the story closes which balances off the overpowered plot of the MC whose life and stunning features are almost too perfect. It’s worth a one time read.

a nice light reading for me, its good that not all the veteran artists being characterised as envious people, there are some who genuinely like to befriend the MC.
to conclude the ending is actually quite refreshing for me because its not like the usual endings in several showbiz danmei novels. initially i was a bit unsatisfied however when i think back, both the MC and ML can choose any path enjoying the relationship however they want. (tbh i dont know how to write without spoiling anything, i hope this subtle enough lol)
