The picturesque Cotswolds village of Bunburry has been rocked by a series of burglaries, with dark suspicions over who is responsible. A discovery at the scene of the crime in the home of Bunburry’s favourite senior citizens, Liz and Marge, leads amateur sleuth Alfie to fear the worst. He decides that this time, the matter should be left to the proper authorities. But with Constable Emma Hollis on sick leave, and Sergeant Harold Wilson as work-shy as ever, some of the villagers have other ideas...

Very satisfying. It had been over a year since I read the last Bunburry mystery so I had to go back and reread that first. In Lost and Found, Constable Emma had been injured and hospitalized in an accident saving Alfie’s niece Ruby from a stalker. Alfie lied and said he was Emma’s fiancé in order to visit her in the hospital and sets off a chain of village gossip that long outlives Emma’s recovery. So that’s where When Night Falls begins. Emma is on restricted duty when a number of break-ins have the villagers up in arms. A group of “vigilantes” decide the high school goths are responsible and Bunburry gets a little wild. Meanwhile, Emma’s sister Laura is visiting to take care of Emma after the accident and she’s interested in Alfie. And so introduces another Bunburry Triangle of sorts that has nothing to do with crime investigations.
When burglaries start happening in Bunburry, everyone is concerned it will happen to them. When Archie's two favorite people become victims the Bunburry Triangle minus two jumps into action, confronting new arrivals that have formed a vigilant group, Archie must figure out who is doing this to his village and why. On the personal front Archie's love life is a mess, just ask anyone in the villshe, they'll tell you.
The mystery was good. Archie jumps to conclusions a bit too quickly but is able to change his mind as they find new evidence. There are a couple of legitimate suspects and I liked how the clues worked together. Archie and Emma make a good team, but they need to communicate better when it comes to their personal relationship.
I enjoyed this installment. It’s a fun, light series. I enjoy spending time with the quirky residents of Bunburry. I do wish I could have some of the fudge, though.
Lukijana ihana Nathaniel Parker.
There are too many to review, thanks to Goodreads' not-working sidebar, so I'm copying and pasting a series review on each one:
Marchmont has created a delightful village, hilarious characters, and interesting mysteries that kept me buying the next to find out what's up in the Cotswolds. An absolute delight.
I enjoy the series, and like the characters. The only negative thing is the way the publisher justifies the columns. They break words at the end of the column in weird ways...gree-(next line) ting,che-cked, compa-ring.
Helena Marchmont's slim volumes are packed with personalities and are quick delicious reads. The mysteries are simple but engaging. I wish she wrote at longer length.
I love these Bunburry mysteries. My favorite part of this book is when Alfie realizes he has true feelings for Emma. Finding out she has true feelings for him, too, was fun. Thank you, Mrs. Marchmont
I love cozy crimes, and I love this series -- not in a small part due to Nathaniel Parker's great rendition, which he always delivers perfectly. The books are short and sweet, the characters lovable, and I'm looking forward to the next instalment.
A very cozy Cozy series set in a small village. The village is concerned by a rash of sudden robberies while Constable Emma is sidelined with an injury. Good thing Alfie is able to track down clues. Too bad his love life isn't so easy for him to manage. This can be read as a standalone.
I was supposed to be reading an intense novel for my book club, but was not in the mood for it. I was driving around all day, and this fit the bill. Lighthearted and undemanding.
The Bunburry books keep improving plots. Alive is involved with Emma finally. There is a persistent lack of communication however, necessitating more action.
when every character is irresistible and indelible in this series. The plots are quickly paced, always leaving the reader wanting more Bunburry with each installment. Absolutely love this series!
