Harland Creek #5

Promise of Grace

Rate this book
In small-town Harland Creek, Grace hopes to hide from her past.

Grace Witherspoon’s experiences in New York were far from pleasant. To escape a nightmarish ex, she did the unthinkable.

Left everything behind… and ran.

The second Grace enters the sweet little town of Harland Creek, she falls in love with its neighborly ambiance. It is the perfect place to hide... as long as no one finds out who she really is. That seems easy enough to avoid until the local cop starts hanging around trying to make nice. Sure, he is the perfect man and sweetly protective, but Grace is done with men... or is she?

After catching his fiancée with another man, police officer Sloan Jackson decides it’s best to focus on crime rather than love. Unfortunately, his match-making sister is convinced Grace is perfect for Sloan. Despite his fear of being hurt again, Sloan’s heart softens the first time he lays eyes on Grace. Unfortunately, as the two grow closer, the past comes back to haunt them.

Can their budding relationship withstand the secrets bubbling to the surface? Or will all that's revealed destroy any chance at happiness Grace and Sloan could have had?

10/10 shiny stars rating from me ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

I really have no words to describe this beautiful, heart wrenching and heartwarming story! The book blurb tells you what it's about, so I won't do that. All I can say is that Grace is a remarkable woman who went through an abusive relationship and came out of it alive!! She moved to Harland Creek to get away from her abusive ex fiance. Here she falls in love with Sloan, the local policeman, finds a home, love and friendships!! Along with a new life.

You can read these books in any order and each one is a stand alone. This author knows how to develop characters, create a moving story and draws you in from page one!! I never want her books to end!!

I very highly recommend this emotionally moving book to everyone who loves to read!!

Enjoy and Happy Reading 💕💞

I totally enjoyed this book, apologies I forgot to leave a review sooner.

I loved the two MCs and how they just danced around each other the whole time.

Sure they come from two different circumstances, but hey it doesn't mean opposites cannot attract.

And once again Fate was like...yes I am gonna prove them wrong tonight haha.

I definitely enjoyed the chemistry the sweet romance and occasional steamy looks they gave each other.

And the overall setting as well - I got so much calm from being there on my own. Felt like singing and dancing like I was Mary Poppins myself or sound of music vibes ya know.

Despite this being my first book by Jodi, I know I will definitely look forward to another for sure.

I mean the writing was great, steam and romance was phenomenal, and the setting was so calming for my heart, and loved the side characters too - I swear I wanted to adopt em or let them do me. So great it all was.

Until the next wonderful read by Jodi.

I listened to the audio version of this book. It was a very nice, enjoyable story. "Grace" is starting over while hiding from her abusive husband. She has changed her name and relocates far from New York to start over. She literally gets hit by a car in the middle of the small town of Harland Creek because neither she nor the driver was paying attention. But she isn't hurt and she and the driver - Allison - become friends. Allison's brother, Sloan is a police officer in town and he has personal baggage too but still tries to help Grace even tho he doesn't know her story. I thought the author did a good job at expressing Grace's situation, how she was handling it and how she works to try to get past it. I for one, can't imagine being in Grace's situation. It was a story about a serious issue, but the author did great at adding a little humor to it in a way to offer even just a little help to Grace (or someone in her situation) to see a tiny light at the end of that long tunnel, so to speak. Allison and Tabitha were best friends and were hilarious, and funny and they befriended Grace.
They were 2 great ladies to have as good friends! The author gave Sloan and Allison such a great sibling connection that the reader could actually feel it.

My only issue was the narration - The narrator did great on all voices but Grace's. Tabitha and Allison's voices were perfect for their personalities! You really got a good sense of "who they were". Even Sloan's "voice" enhanced his personality. But the narrator made Grace sound so sad and depressed and ready to cry no matter what she was saying or who she was talking to. It kind of drug the story down a bit, but was quickly picked up when narrative changed.

A well written perfectly paced story pulling you in from the start. Once you start reading you feel for the small town family who looks out for you. Grace arrived in Harland Creek to get a new start and fell in love with the town. Sloan is dealing with a past mistake but finally on the mend to getting his life back. I loved the feel of real life people.

if you love good clean romance

Jodi Allen Brice delivers a beautiful story of Grace (pun intended). She tackles the awkward yet prevailing subject of domestic violence with sensitivity to the very real circumstances of many around the world.

Grace is hiding from her past in the sweet town Harland Creek . She is in love with the the towns people . Until the local sheriff walks into her life and plays nice with her . She is done with men or is she . Sloane Jackson is the local police officer and after a bad break up he is done with woman . Until his sister decides meddle and he starts to fall for Grace and as they start to get to closer the past to haunt them . Will they finally get the happiness they deserve or will the past keep them apart,
These characters are so well written and complex I really love Grace , she is such a broken woman who has had it all in the past until a fateful day when everything falls apart. She is one shy woman who doesn't want to be a problem to others . As you read she starts to blossom into a fun young woman who has a lot to live for. Sloane well his one sexy guy who has a heart of gold . Together they are such a fun couple they do have their ups and downs but they do start to fall in love and they are so cute together.
This is one of those books that will tug at your heart strings . The author takes us on a emotional roller coaster ride . The characters are so well written and complex and you will fall in love with them as soon as you start to read . The author has a writing style that will have you hooked by the second page . We also get to see the wounded broken characters heal and find the love that they need .This is a sweet romance story that had me on the edge of my seat one moment then crying the next moment. I am truly loving this series and can't wait to go back to Harland Creek and catch up with some of the sweetest characters out there, So if you want a sweet story full of love and redemption this is the book series for you.

Grace is the newest addition to Harland Creek having run away from an abusive relationship. She hopes to find solace in the peaceful atmosphere of the small town. But her plans to remain isolated is destroyed when she befriends police officer Sloan Jackson's sister and through her she meets him too. Sloan who has lost faith in relationships because of his cheating ex doesn't want to trust women again. But both of them, find themselves drawn towards each other, in spite of their best efforts in not doing so.

It doesn't help that Grace has a secret to hide and she doesn't know how to tell it to Sloan. Their journey towards each other despite of their mutual distrust of romantic relationships is the story.

Though this book is part of a series, as far as I can tell, there is not much connect within the previous books and this book. The characters all seemed new and the only thing common is the town. That is good for any new readers who want to try the book. I liked the story well enough and found the love story to be developed organically. The romance between the lead pair has been developed realistically; their internal struggles with their distrust of people and how they overcome their emotional struggle has been perfectly done by the author Jodie Allen Brice. It was a fun, light read and I would definitely recommend it to people who love such books.

What a wonderfully written storyline. Grace Witherspoon, once known as Jennifer Montclair, a famous ballet dancer in NYC. She fell in love with the wrong man who turned abusive, put her in the hospital several times and threatened to kill her if she ever tried to leave him. She did escape, found a new identity and made a new start in Harland Creek MS. There she met Sloan Jackson, the local cop and sister to Allison, her new friend. Did didn’t trust men in general and tried to keep her feelings locked up tight but Sloan could tell she had secrets. An emotional read and wonderful characters that will keep you turning page after page. Loved it!.

Promise of Grace by Jodi Allen Brice is the second book I have read by this author but the fifth book in the Harland Creek Series. Grace is a strong woman who is running from a past mistake that turned dangerous and deadly. Buying the old Hadley property puts her squarely in the county that also has the little town of Harland Creek, Mississippi. This is hand of God leading without her being aware. Here she will find community, friends, and a safe place. A place to call home.

That last statement is what I love most about the two books in this series that I have read. Wounded, lost souls who need a sense of home and all that goes with it. This is also a sweet romance so finding love is also a part of the story. However, Grace needs a place of safety more than she needs a man. A wonderful story where she just may find both even though one of them she is definitely not looking for or expecting.

Once you start reading you will be like me invested in Grace’s story. I recommend Promise of Grace by Jodi Allen Brice to all who love a great story where happily-ever-after really can happen.

The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Grace got herself mixed up with the wrong man, and it cost her her career and almost her life. She is now on the run and, after some time, finds herself in Harland Creek, MS. She has purchased a “fixer upper,” and she plans to do most the work herself to create a home to heal her soul and hide out for a while.

Sloan is doing his own healing, his heart has been trampled, and his trust broken. His sister and Grace cross paths, does she play matchmaker?

Promise of Grace is a quick read; your emotions will get a workout, and we get to be introduced to side characters who I hope will show up in future books.

Thank you to Booksprout and the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

This story just scooped me, up and had me hooked from the start. The story is entertainingly layered with likeable characters. Grace has made an effort to survive and thrive, having left behind untenable conditions. Harland Creek seems like the soft spot Grace needs to regroup and rejuvenate her soul. The town's sheriff Sloan has sworn off women after his last relationship ended acrimoniously. Grace and Sloan have issues and have sworn off romantic entanglements. However fate has other plans for this pair as friendship, healing and romance develop. All does not run smoothly as secrets, interference, allegations and revelations impact the pair. Beyond the romance in this story, I liked the spirit of resiliency and healing that rounded out the story.

Very heartwarming and emotional story. The main character Grace is a victim of abuse and trauma. In order to get away from her abuser, she must leave her old life and identify behind and start over in a different city as well as a new identity. She ends up in a very small but loving town where everyone becomes family. Grace is very broken therefore very untrusting of everyone especially men. However, when she meets Sloan the town cop who’s different in so many ways from the man who abused and broke her, she slowly begins to trust again. Sloan will be the one to show her what real unconditional love and trust are all about. A small town romance you’ll want to read over and over!

My heart hurt for Grace and what she had gone through. She escaped, but she was always looking over her shoulder worried that her past would find her. She finally has a new life teaching dance, supportive friends, and a nice boyfriend in Sloan that recognizes he needs to take it slow with her when she sees the signs in one her students. It scares me to think a guy could have so much power over a woman to the point of where he thinks he can do whatever he wants and no one will stop him. This wasn't one of those light-hearted romances although it did have some sweet and funny moments and I cheered when Grace stood up against the bully.

This story is about a new girl in town and her blooming relationship with the town’s sheriff. They both are dealing with their past relationships that include domestic abuse and infidelity. You can’t help but feel good about them both finding love with each other. Surprisingly though, I think I adored the character of the sheriff’s sister more than the main characters. Hopefully we will get her story in the future.

I love a small town vibe in books, and this one did not disappoint. Grace is newly arrived in town, and everyone is in her business. Not easily accepted when she has to make a stand. An interesting book with a theme of domestic violence, but retains an uplifting feel nonetheless.
