Hannah Pascoe is an independent, beautiful young woman, enjoying life and what it has to offer. And right now, that’s a date with the deliciously gorgeous Carrie Kimble. Introduced by friends, Hannah has been daydreaming about this moment, and just when she thinks her life might actually be complete, tragedy strikes.
A terrorist bomb explodes across the street, the café’s window imploding seconds later, and when Hannah wakes up in the hospital, she can’t see.
Dealing with her injury, Hannah has much to overcome, but it’s when she meets Erica, a volunteer support worker at the hospital, that she starts to come to terms with her sight loss and understand that although her life is changed, it’s not over.
With Erica’s help, Hannah gets a place at the rehab centre where Erica is a mentor. Erica is able to help Hannah relearn the confidence to undertake the tasks that most people take for granted. A simple bath or cup of tea is now a very different undertaking, but not impossible, and Hannah is determined to overcome her fears.
But being this close to Erica brings another issue for Hannah, one that she didn’t expect…she’s falling for her.

i hate to say it but i found this to be a slightly anticlimactic read.

the premise was incredibly promising and i was ready for an angsty rollercoaster of acceptance and love and acceptance through love…but i found the relationship between the 2 mc’s to be super stilted, there just was no chemistry whatsoever, the third act conflict has to be one of the shoddiest ones i’ve ever read and on top of all that - a fade to black sex scene (personally i think we need to unionise against fade to black sex scenes or at least advocate for a trigger warning or something???? but that’s [mostly] besides the point)

despite these negatives which, honestly cant really be overlooked in favour of a higher rating, there were some positives. i quite enjoyed learning about the ways in which blind people navigate the world. i liked how sensitively the topic was approached and (spoiler alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!) i really wished we found out much earlier than we did about erica being blind as well. just cause i feel that it would’ve given the relationships between the 2 mc’s the dimension and depth it so desperately needed.

Claire Highton-Stevenson is one of the authors I will auto buy every book that she releases because I just know that I will love the story. The blurb of this one touched me very much and I know before I started it that this is going to be a very emotional read. And I wasn’t wrong.

Right from the start I was pulled into the story. The little details that were no details captivated me. The moment Hannah gets told she has lost her sight touched me very much. I had tears in my eyes. There are so many emotions. And the description how the ears adapted and everything was suddenly so much louder definitely stuck with. All of what I have just described literally happens at the beginning of the book so there was still so much to come. But it just felt so important to me and shows what an amazing writer Claire is.

When Hannah gets to the rehab center she has to learn so many things again. And I was amazed once again how everything was described. So many details were included in the story that helped me to understand what it means not seeing anymore. All the little things we take for granted. And then again all these feelings, like loss, fear, anger, sadness, but also joy. For me it felt like I was there with them because I felt all of these feelings with them.

And then there is Erica, the woman that is there to help Hannah during the most difficult time of her life. I loved how they got closer and especially how Hannah (the former visual person) developed more and more deeper feelings through listening and touching. Another thing that just touched me so much.

I think I could go on and on and add so many more beautiful and emotional things. And wow at some point there is even a little twist I didn’t see coming (al least not totally). But for me this is a story you just have to experience and enjoy for yourself. I somehow feel like I tried to describe how beautiful this story is, but I wasn’t able to give it full justice. To really understand, this story has to be read. What I probably loved the most was how Hannah found hope again. I mean besides how beautiful the story is. It seems I’m repeating myself. ☺️

So far I have love all of Claire’s books. But this story is now my favourite by her. I have read it in one day and for me Claire has written a masterpiece.

I really enjoyed this one

I have read a lot of CHS books and it's no secret that she is one of my go to kU authors. This book is probably one of her best written ones as you can really see her growth in her writing.

This one is about Hannah and Erica. Hannah loses her site and Erica is there to help her cope. It's a cute story with just a little drama and growth in characters. I loved the supporting characters and how the Kim, BFF of Hannah's timing was perfect like a BFF should be. Actually I thought Kim was the tie in to the OUT series as so many of them are but I dont think she was...

Regardless, this was a good one and one fans of CHS should not miss and other readers should give a read.

Just Beautiful!

After a tragic accident, Hannah finds she has been left blind and must learn to live with the condition as she will never get her eye sight back. At the hospital, as part of her recovery plans, Hannah is introduced to Erica, who can help her gain her independence again as she learns to live with her injuries. When Erica offers Hannah a placement at a facility that can further help her learn all she needs, Hannah can’t help falling for Erica.

What a stunning story! Claire has really delivered in providing a moving, emotional, and truly beautiful story about just how unexpected life can be. There are a number of important messages throughout that story that are important to remember whatever you circumstances. What I love about Claire’s stories, and this one in particular is how much emotion is placed in the story, through the circumstances and the wonderful characters. I hadn’t cried this much at one of Claire’s books since I read The Promise, and between that and Blinded By Love they are both the same level of fantastic, so if you have read The Promise, can guarantee Blinded By Love will make you feel the same way.

I absolutely adored Hannah, her determination, her ability to stay positive, the way she never gave up hope, and how true to herself she carried on just following her emotions and feelings to find happiness. Erica was a great character too, and unexpected, which will make the most sense when you read the book. Together they had a wonderful way of caring for one another, being passionate about Hannah getting her independence back and most importantly, Erica was always there to support her no matter what. What they shared was real true love, and you just can’t force that. They were just meant to be and I firmly believe as Hannah does, everything happens for a reason, even if it doesn’t seem like a good one at the time. Without the tragic accident, Hannah and Erica may never have met.

Claire has really outdone herself and I couldn’t put the book down, just needing to know everything that would happen. That first chapter had me hooked and invested in Hannah and what her life held in store. Just a beautiful story that I can’t recommend enough.

Blinded By Love is an experience and one that only you can have if you read it. No review is going to do the justice this story deserves.

I can't do this anymore, why do sapphics always have no self respect!??!?like how can one girl keep hurting you and just keep trying?!?!?STAND UP

The multiple povs were the most unnecessary and annoying thing also.

The mc was acting immature sometimes but this story had a pull, not in the beginning but with time

A beautiful story

SAPPHIC BOOK BINGO: character with a disability, disaster, favorite trope, unusual job, author's pick, possibly other categories

Not only was this a lovely romance story, it was a very important education of the transitioning from a seeing person to being significantly visually impaired. I was aware of a few things involved, or some of the struggles, but I learned so much from this novel! I feel that this is an important story for able-bodied readers because it also covered coping methods and tricks that aid in living an everyday life. It also discussed some of the emotional challenges and steps toward acceptance of a sight-impaired lifestyle. Physical limitations can compare to sensory ones, but losing some or all vision would be a greater loss to many people.

The MCs were charming and authentic, the plot was believable, and the barriers to the relationship were realistic. I would be surprised if there was a reader that didn't like - or love - this story. An absolute must read!

Hannah Pascoe's life is forever changed when a terrorist bomb explodes outside of a restaurant where she's meeting her date. She wakes up in the hospital only able to see shapes and has a hard time accepting that her sight won't return. Erica is a volunteer support worker who helps people adapt after losing their eyesight. Erica helps Hannah get into a rehab facility where they spend a lot of time together and feelings develop that neither was prepared for.

I really enjoy Claire Highton-Stevenson's writing. In this one, she brings us a character in Hannah, who goes through a gamut of emotions from anger, self-pity and finally acceptance. I could easily put myself in Hannah's place and feel the despair she felt. It's not often we think about what we would do if suddenly our vision was reduced to only shadows and shapes and we could no longer experience the beauty of a sunrise or gazing into a woman's eyes.

Erica has worked with many others in the same position, and she treats her, not as someone who is broken, but as someone who can have a full life with a different way of thinking and some adjustments. I liked Erica and Hannah together and how their relationship progressed. The rest of the characters were well developed and integral to Hannah's journey. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to what comes next from Claire Highton-Stevenson.

An ARC was provided by the author for an honest review.

I love Claire Highton - Stephenson's books and Escape and Freedom and The Promise are amongst my favourites. I was excited to read the new book having read the blurb, especially as a friend had read and enjoyed the book so much.

Given my previous experiences as a reader of this author, inexplicably I just did not connect emotionally to the characters on this occasion. I'm not sure why, but it seems I am very out of step with other reviewers.

Good book

A lovely book that shows live life to the fullest. After a bomb goes off Hannah loses her eye sight. Erica an instructor that teach people with visual impairment is helping Hannah. You can feel how Hannah is starting to fall for Erica and that it is mutual. Read the book to see how they work things out and have a HEA

This was definitely not my thing.

The central problem I had was with the unprofessionalism and inappropriateness of someone helping care for a person who has recently experienced trauma and is adjusting to a disability. Big red flags for me in that while transference is a very common thing for anyone caring for someone else or helping them deal with trauma or injury, it is for the professionals to ensure the appropriate distance is maintained with the patients. Also incredibly weird that Erica's boss is super supportive of the idea of her breaking emotional boundaries with someone in their care? The whole thing seems incredibly strange and creepy, in a way that could be viewed as taking advantage of someone who is traumatised and in their care.

Also the big twist fell absolutely flat with me too because it was also just unprofessional and borderline dangerous to allow a patient to think that their carer . Once again, incredibly strange and unprofessional and I assume it was meant to be some sort of empowering message but it absolutely fell flat for me, unfortunately.

I went into this because hurt/comfort is enjoyable for me, but the behavior of the MCs are either incredibly immature () or incredibly inappropriate.

If you’re in the mood for a zero angst, sweet romance with two really likable main characters, then I’d most definitely recommend this one. Hannah’s life changed in an instant when shattered glass during a terrorist attack ripped her sight away from her. What followed was a wonderfully detailed account of Hannah learning to live with her new disability with the help of a delightful woman. As Hannah began to learn more about her new world, her feelings for her assistant, Erica could no longer be ignored. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It felt real and honest, with the reader being about to feel Hannah’s emotions from beginning to end. I highly recommend!

Simply Beautiful *Spiolers*

Hannah and Erica’s story is very sweet. Erica shows Hannah
that even in blindness love can help you see. The story has a twist when you find out Erica herself is also blind. She wanted Hannah to believe she’s capable of helping her get back to her life, a new life, one she could see beautiful moments because of love. I recommend this book.
The author writing is wonderful.

This was a nice story about overcoming a tragic accident and obstacles that life throws your way.

I just wish it was a little longer. I felt like there was more to be explored and it felt a little rushed, which is a shame, because the story was great.

The romace took a back seat understandably, because the main character and the side characters are dealing with blindnes and had to overcome a lot in order to have as normal life as possible. However when we do get to the romance later on and it's kinda underwhealming (atleast for me it was). Now I don't need an explicit sex scene to enjoy a good romance, but a nicely described kiss can go a long way, but all I got was she closed the space between them and let her lips meet Erica’s before Erica could move away. She pressed gently and urged Erica to return the kiss. And for just a moment, she did. That was a little anticlimactic.
Another thing is that the MC's never told "I love you" to each other which just felt a little strange in a book listed as lesbian romance, but I guess it is more HFN rather that HEA kind of thing.

I liked the story, the main characters, the side characters so I guess if you don't care about the romance much this will be perfect book for you to read :)

Life can change in an instant, love is best felt when seeing isn't possible.

Hannah has a date that goes so wrong it changes her life forever. An terrorist explosion has caused her to be legally blind.
She meets Erica who is a volunteer in the hospital to assist patients to adapt to a new way life. It was so amazing to see the many 2ays Hannah could gain her independence back. The close connection she and Erica feels growing threatens to cost professional issues for Erica. I felt such love for Hannah as she tried to make a new path. Erica has a surprise of her own that really caught me too but makes their story so poignant.
I never tire of a book by this author. She tackled the very real dilemma of losing your eyesight in a thoughtful and loving relationship wrapped in the story. The characters were strong women dealing with what they had in the best way. I think if we felt love more we would see it is all around us. A delightful read that tugged my heart.

Wow!

Claire worked wonders with this story. A truck, a glance at the door and suddenly Hannah is flying across the room. Laying there with glass from the window and suddenly Hannah's world turns 180 degrees. She is blind! How can that be? Through stages Hannah is admitted to a helpful facility for people who are without sight. Helping individuals to be able to manage things that normal people do without thought. Teaching Hannah is Erica. Together the two ladies manage to find themselves their soul mate. And each other. Insightful, teaching the reader and a great story. Read and Enjoy!

What A Wake Up Call!

I didn’t know what to expect with this story. As a fan of Claire’s, was expecting something really good but this exceeded my expectations. Not for the story itself, which was a touch of reality in this world we live in. But in the realization of what happens in the aftermath. The survivors. How one day in your life can change your world. The way Claire handled blindness opened my eyes. I might not have been sensitive to this before but I am definitely now. This story is well worth reading which is the review in a nutshell.

Claire Heighton Stevens is my most favourite author I’ve been reading for the last couple of years. Having read all of Claire’s books Blinded By Love has to be the best by far. It showed being blinded doesn’t have end your life but can in rich it in so many other ways. I loved Hannah’s character and how she got to grips with her blindness. Especially loved Kim her best friend. Hopefully there will be a follow on. Well done Claire on an another fabulous well written book.

Suddenly left visually impaired (legally blind) a young woman needs to find her resilience in the face of overwhelming anger and sadness, as well as relearn her skills for independence. This story really educates the reader about how significantly visually impaired people adapt to their new normal, both functionally as well as emotionally, and how, with the right supports and encouragement, you can still have the life you planned.

So good

I can’t express how good this book was, it was an eye opener to how someone adapts to tragedy and learning to see a world with all new ways but actually not seeing with your eyes . Through out the book I kind of sensed about Erica but then I was like no but to find out toward the end I had been right. Really good book and I’m glad I read it. It’s amazing the things we tank for granted. Love the author, she never disappoints

Interesting concept for a romance story, but of course, there is the usual Highton-Stevenson twist. The main character, Hannah, is involved in an explosion that causes severe damage to her eyes. The central part of this novel is how Hannah learns to cope with her disability. The author has captured the nuances of being visually impaired with remarkable clarity and insight.

Outstanding!

I had a feeling that Erica had a secret she was hiding from Hannah, and I was right. Her reasoning is perfectly understandable also. Kudos to the author on the sensitive portrayal of the turmoil facing (and suffered by) those with sudden (or life-altering) physically limiting changes.

Twist Ending

This book was so good and took me on a ride. The tragedy of Hannah's accident and her struggle to regain her independence were so well written I could empathize with her situation. Erica came as a complete shock! But not in a bad way. And I enjoyed the ending so much.

A-mazing!

I love differently abled characters, and this book is definitely there to prove that nothing is impossible, not even after a terrible incident like a terrorist attack.

Sweet love story that I can recommend to anyone looking a little different romance.
