Empires rise and fall on the Yulan Continent. Saints, immortal beings of unimaginable power, battle using spells and swords, leaving swathes of destruction in their wake. Magical beasts rule the mountains, where the brave – or the foolish – go to test their strength. Even the mighty can fall, feasted on by those stronger. The strong live like royalty; the weak strive to survive another day.
This is the world which Linley is born into. Raised in the small town of Wushan, Linley is a scion of the Baruch clan, the clan of the once-legendary Dragonblood Warriors. Their fame once shook the world, but the clan is now so decrepit that even the heirlooms of the clan have been sold off. Tasked with reclaiming the lost glory of his clan, Linley will go through countless trials and tribulations, making powerful friends but also deadly enemies.
Come witness a new legend in the making. The legend of Linley Baruch.
Well that was intense. I seriously thought that this chapter would introduce the founder of the Baruch clan. But can't say I am disappointed. It's much, much better.
Lots of things happened in this book. Linley got married and had twins; he built a kingdom; his army went to war. He also got more powerful, although he seemed to forget that he's also a magus. Basically, all the magi in this story have been forgotten, warriors were the main characters.
Btw, Bebe was so overpowered <3. I need a side story where Bebe has his own adventure.
So the thing about this kind of book is you read it for the story, not for the writing style.
This volume is kind of boring at some part, but there is a war. I love war scenes. I guess it bores me because I don't understand what's the true objective of the protagonist. He wanted revenge, okay. But he also, what, wish to be a God as well? Idk, at some point the story just all over the place.
and he do nothing but training. hm. and he is supposed to be a magus as well as warrior, but it's like he forgot about his magus skill. At first he was famous because he is dual element magus, now its like he cant even do simple spell. He also forgot that he's a sculptor.
idk. i'm considering to drop this series. but i'm on volume 11 and the War God is present so idk. I might continue until the 21st volume.
This novel was definitely different from all the other previous ones. For one does Linley not appear in the first few chapters, which honestly made it a bit difficult to get into this book after a five months break from the series. Also, while all the other volumes focussed on personal relationships between combatants and 1v1 fights, this book is more about strategy and warfare, as was hinted at at the end of the previous volume.
Aside from that though, "Baruch" does deliver as a Coiling Dragon book. The title is very fitting in two ways but mentioning those here would certainly be spoiler territory. Linley, the five brothers, and especially Bebe get their time to shine, the main characters rise even more in power, so much even that by cultural norms they are suddenly not allowed anymore to partake in certain worldly fights. Linely's rise is unstoppable at this point, and this volume is one of the volumes developing that matter the most; not only does he rise in power, he significantly rises in social status.
Overall a solid entry in the Coiling Dragon saga. This volume marks somewhat of the half way point of the whole series volume-wise, though the all-in-one edition on my kidle marks the end of this volume at 38% of the whole saga. So there sure is even MORE to come - which is crazy, since it seems like, if Linley continues to grow in that pace, he will have "cleared" the level which is the Yulan Continent by the end of next volume, which him being one of the strongest enteties on earth.
First novel that made me read more novels. Hahaha. Worth the read and time. More like a prequel to stellar transformations. One of the best novels. Good action, romance and story
