When a former military, MMA fighter, and a hot alpha male saves you from a purse thief... there’s only one thing you can do.
Fall in love.
Zane made my heart race... and stop at the same time. It could be his charm or his intriguing character. I was too taken by him to care what drew me to him. But one thing was for sure... I had to stop myself from falling deeper.
Zane “Mad Dog” Maddox might have been a stranger. But we had shared history. His dad was trying to take down my stepdad. Love had the potential to turn ugly... Really, really ugly.
And then a beautiful thing happened. I got pregnant. A secret that I couldn’t share with the man I loved. Until... it was time for him to save me, and his future child.
It started off okay and interesting but I have to say that I didn’t feel the chemistry. I was fast paced in a way that kept everything surface level. I didn’t connect with the characters or the story unfortunately. Also there were some inconsistencies in the narration that may also have played a part. Could have been a better book with a bit more work.
I really enjoyed Laney and Zane, loved the thought of finding your one and realizing it instantly like a shock when you touch for the first time! What I didn't like was the drama with Laneys step dad and Leeland. Very unrealistic to think big time criminals would just turn over a new leaf and help Laney after everything they did to her. I can't say to much or it'll give to much of the story away. Just know at that point I lost interest. 👍 first half 👎 second 👉 so so ending.

This is the kind of book that keeps you on your toes right till the very end, it has strong characters that have you rooting for them. Lanes and Zane’s story start out with them meeting inside an elevator and the instant attraction is burning hot between them but they go there separate ways until she screams after she is attacked and her purse stolen but Zane saves the day and her purse and decides to ask her out. Zane is an ex military man and is now a MMA fighter with the name Mad Dog who enjoys what he does but not everyone likes what’s he does so it makes it hard to date. Lanes is a successful wedding planer with her best friend Brie and her step dad help getting it all started but the relationship between them is not good and now is wants her to date one of his colleagues son but she just got dummy by her ex a year ago and hasn’t gotten over it yet and so she immediately tells him no but he is not happy with her answer. Two strangers meet by chance in an elevator not knowing that it would change both of their lives. Lainey broke up with her fiance a year ago and she's still struggling to figure out why he broke up with. Zane is former military who is a champion MMA fighter who also has a broken engagement in his past although his was mutual. When they meet in the elevator sparks fly leaving them both speechless. After they get off the elevator going their separate ways Zane hears Lainey screaming and goes running only to see a man snatch her purse. Zane chases the guy and gets her purse back they talk and agree to meet up with each other for drinks. That begins their relationship even though her stepfather tries to set her up with his colleagues son she firmly tells him no. Their relationship gets even worse than it was and her mother takes his side even though he doesn't treat her good. I don't want to say anymore and ruin it for anyone else with spoilers. You really need to read this intense story to see what happens. I would recommend reading this book.

Zane has just broken up with his fiancé, she took a job across the country without even talking to him, neither really wanted to marry the other. The first time he sees Laney in the elevator, something shifts, he wants nothing more than to see more of her. He never felt this way about a woman.
Laney was never really attracted Warren and knew she was not in love with him, but it still hurt when he broke off their engagement last year. When the man holds the elevation for her, he makes her heart race, she finds him so attractive. When he chases after the guy who took her purse and brings it, it gives her the excuse to see him again.
These two burn real hot from the beginning, but due to familial connections there is of drama, action and danger for the two main characters. Can Zane do what is necessary to save Laney?

Loved this romance with suspense coming from their familes, in the wrong ways. Zane is an MMA fighter and ex-military, with a father who is going after a certain bad guy. Laney meets Zane in an elevator and with crossing paths, they start a relationship. Later on, they find out that her step-father, who she can not stand, is the bad guy that his father is after. Before she can tell Zane a secret, she is kidnapped and a death fight is forced upon them. Just mind-blowing action and suspense. The characters are terrific, complex with intense feelings and emotions, determination and strength. The storyline hooks you right from the start and the tension and suspense gets your heart racing for them. Loved their chemistry and support, although they go through a rough spell for a bit. The ending was just perfect.

Laney is a wedding planner that is getting over a breakup. Zane is a MMA fighter that also just ended a relationship. They meet in an elevator and start seeing each other. Laney's mom tells her that her stepfather wants to fix her up. She tells her mom that she is already with someone. Her stepfather doesn't like this and sets about trying to split them up. Zane has no clue who her stepfather is until he is looking at some work his father left out. He starts worrying that his first meeting with Laney was a set up. Will he give Laney a chance to explain? Will her stepfather put them all in danger?
This is a great story that will have you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Let me start by saying this—the name Zane alone should give you a clear indication of what type of literary experience we’re working with here. Passion? Check. Drama? Absolutely. Hotness overload? Oh, undeniably.
Now, let me be clear—I loved this book. The storyline pulled me in effortlessly, the characters were vibrant and layered, and the flow of the story kept me turning pages way past my bedtime. Ms. Gray knows how to create chemistry. Knows how to build tension. Knows how to make a reader feel like they’re in the room...or in the moment.
But—and here’s where it gets tricky—I still walked away feeling like something was missing. And trust me, I’ve been sitting with this for a minute trying to figure out exactly what that is. It wasn’t the characters—I was invested. It wasn’t the pacing—that was smooth. It wasn’t even the writing style, because Ms. Gray's pen game stays undefeated in certain lanes.
Maybe it was the depth? Maybe I wanted the emotional stakes to cut just a little deeper? Maybe I wanted moments of softness or vulnerability to balance out the heat? I’m not sure. And that’s what makes this such a strange feeling—to love a book, to devour a book, but still close it and feel like I almost got everything I needed... almost.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Would I read it again? In a heartbeat. But would I still be sitting here wondering what intangible little piece I needed more of? Yep.
I loved it...but it lowkey left me hanging.
Sorry, not sure if that’s the most helpful review—but hopefully it’s an honest one for those of you thinking about picking it up.
Another wonderful MMA story from Ms Gray. If you like MMA then you've come to the right place with this book. You are drawn into the story from the start, it is emotional, raw and real. It's a story with a dark edge to it. The journey Zane and Laney take together from the moment they meet is a journey full of bumps in the road.
The characters and their characters are perfectly described, also the fight scenes are well described. The chemistry and attraction between them just pops off the book as do the hot scenes that appear in this story. This book is definitely recommended and worth reading.

Lainey fiancé broke up with her a year ago but she still grappling to figure out why. Zane, former military and not a champion MMA fighter finally broke off his engagement but it was mutual. Zane and Lainey meet in an elevator and they could feel the electricity sparking around them which left them speechless. They go a different day when they get off the elevator but Zane hears Lainey screaming and goes to help and get her purse back from the creep who took it. I got so involved reading this story that I was up late at night trying to finish it. There was action, drama, and plenty of steam. Highly recommend. First book I've read by this author and I enjoyed the storyline very much.

I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review. This story has drama, danger, secrets, family, conflict, strength, passion and love. Zane and Laney start things out with him as her hero. Their relationship develops with outside forces and lies threatening to tear it apart. Thru all of the bad twists and turns in their lives, he still remains her hero. I thought that Zane was a great character. Laney needed him more than she knew. They were meant to be together but have to fight for their future. I thought that the story was well written with great characters.

Laney is getting over a breakup with her fiancé and doesn't think she will ever find live when she meets Zane who just ended his engagement. Sparks immediately fly between the two and their attraction is to each other is electric. Their relationship is going well until they discover that six degrees of separation wasn't just a movie.
This was a great book. The characters were extremely relatable. The story line was new and refreshing. The story well written though I would encourage additional editing.

Protecting What's Mine features Zane and Laney. Both have had long-term past relationships that have ended, although on different terms. They meet in an elevator and sparks fly right away. The two start to build a relationship together but nothing is ever easy and both internal and external forces cause tensions to rise and things to become shakey. When Laney is in danger though Zane doesn't hesitate to jump in and rush to save her.
Jump right into this steamy second chance story that's high drama and all action.

When strangers meet in and elevator the sparks fly. Laney is resigned to the fact that she will never find a love like her mom and dad’s. Breaking up with her fiancé a year ago has still left her heartbroken. Zane, an ex-military and MMA fighter, recently broken up with his fiancé. They separated as friends wanting different things. This story had the chemistry and drama right from the beginning. Love this strong minded woman and a protective alpha man.

This storyline will keep you guessing from beginning till the end, you will enjoy the mysteries, the misunderstandings, twists and turns that will take you in, the dark world. Sometimes Life get really complicated, real fast, specially for Laney and Zane for our greatest pleasure. All the characters good or bad, will make you fall in love with them and the story will not disappointed, you will get hooked. I read it in one shot, I just couldn’t put it down until the last page. Thanks to the author for providing me with my review copy.
I love this book. I mean, what is there not to like. Big hunky MMA fighter falls hard for a sweet wedding planner. You just knew from the first page, that this would be a great story. And it does not dissapoint you at all. From I opened it up right after getting of from work, and until the last page, I was lost to the surrounding world. This book has it all. Heroic actions, wooing alpha male, soulmates finding each other, bedroom scenes, cage fights, a death match and a happy ending. I am in love with this story and the characters, and can't wait until I am going to re-read it.
Elan and Zane. What a roller coaster ! Even if the first half of the book is a wonderful read, it’s the second half which captured me completely. Any moment I was thinking I know what comes… no. I didn’t know anything. Between laugher and love came the horror and despair, hope, love, pain and dismay…. And Love Wins. Every single time. Or perhaps there’s a giant problem and love can’t win this one time… ?… read and find out ! Enjoy your read !

I received an ARC of this book in return for an honest review. The cover of the book caught my attention first, and let me tell you, I was not disappointed in the description of the yumminess that is Zane. As the story unfolded, I was drawn in. Secrets, intrigue, drama, suspense and love. Everything you want in a good book. Definitely a page turner, as I went from start to finish in one go. Laney and Zane were so relatable and had you cheering them on to reach their HEA. This was a sweet love story with heat and action. Incorporating the MMA world into this story was also tastefully done.
It makes you think when you just broke off a relationship and in the same day see another person who catches their interest. This is what this story us about. She was trying to get over a relationship that was broken a while ago. Zane felt he was incapable of loving anyone other then his family. This book is a true fantasy. I did like the relationships they had with their friends and part of their family members. Never marry for the wrong reasons. In most cases it doesn't workout.
Protecting What's Mine was an amazing and well written MMA romance story by Ava Gray. I love MMA romance so I was excited to read Maddox and Lainey's story. Both have broken engagements and while Maddox is ok with it, Lainey is still struggling to understand why he ex broke up with her. But when they meet the chemistry between them is immediate and intense. Their story has twists and turns and will keep you reading until the very last page. 5 epic stars!
Protecting What’s Mine is a well-written story about a chance meeting between Zane Maddox, an MMA fighter, and Laney Holland, a wedding planner. The story will take you on a rollercoaster ride: action/suspense, drama, swoon-worthy moments, and a HEA. It will have you turning the pages wanting more. Great addition to the series! The third book in the Playing with Trouble series and the first book in this series that I have read I will be reading the other books. Laney Holland and Zane Maddox meet in an elevator and he saves her as they are getting off from a puse snatcher. Their story has suspense, drama, danger, villains, and love. The story was well worth reading. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Instant feelings and a seriously intense physical connection are brand new to both Laney and Zane. They are in different worlds, her a wedding planner and he an MMA fighter, but they mesh. They both make some big mistakes with each other. Family and crime drama come along at a very bad time, but brings everything into focus. Really good story.

This is the 3rd book in this series by this author. Zane is an MMA fighter. Laney is a wedding planner and she's dealing with a broken engagement. So is Zane. A chance meeting in an elevator changed the course of their lives forever. Even still, she is battling feelings from her past relationship, and it could ruin new relationships. This book was as good as the other books in this series and a great read.
H- Zane “Mad Dog” Maddox h-Laney Holland I really wanted to love this book BUT I just couldn’t take it anymore. Between Laney comparing Zane to her ex fiancé from a YEAR AGO was really getting to me. I also hate the long internal conversation they both had in their heads. I think the story itself was very boring. I stopped at chapter 10.. couldn’t take it anymore!
Laney is a wedding planner who believes she'll never be planning her own wedding. After being dumped by her finacé a year ago she's pretty sure she'll forever be alone. The she meets Zane "Mad Dog" Maddox and things start looking up. That is until her stepfather starts wanting to get involved in her dating life and things go downhill from there. This is a great read and I highly recommend it!
Two broken lives are intertwined by a chance meeting in an elevator. Both are recovering from bad breakups. When Laney is attacked Zane comes to her rescue. They start seeing each other only to break up. That does not last long however, as when Laney is kidnapped by her evil stepfather Zane comes to her rescue. Great fast paced entertaining love story that will have you guessing to the end.
