During the coldest winter on record, an EMP sends American back into the Stone Age. It’s been a week without power. No phones. No computers. Nothing. As the crisis unfolds, one family seeks sanctuary from the cold on the city's outskirts.
EMP No Power
An EMP explodes over Washington DC and the world comes to screeching halt. As society falls into dismay, Harper Murphy, a skilled army quartermaster/single mother, charges headlong into the escalating chaos to save the only thing she holds her son. In a world rife with chaos, how far would a mother go to protect her family?
The Darkness Falls Boxset is my second Clay Wise work. Whereas that first set, The Last Sanctuary is a self-contained complete novel, Darkness Falls is a three-novels compilation in one volume. Both, revolve around EMPs (electromagnetic pulses) as apocalyptic, Extinction Level Events.
Here, all three novels seem to have their genesis in the same EMP event because the distinct story-lines run one after the other with continuous chapter numbering (as if they are all part of the same novel). The stories are different, illustrating the varied and subtle ways people might react in similar circumstances. Some will leave the relative safety of their homes, while others chose to stay home and fortify.
As typical with these types of novels (exploration of apocalypse scenarios), self-reliance is key, the ability to defend oneself, and recognize that most times the enemy is not the event itself, but the easy transformation of otherwise decent people to villains. The veneer of civilized humanity is just that, a veneer readily castoff to reveal the sinister reality of our barbaric ancestors.
Well-written, with action-oriented scenes that grabbed my attention, Wise not only wrote a compelling story, but he propels the narrative of the three different novels to fulfilling and satisfying conclusions. I rate it high because the guy can write.
I really enjoyed reading these books. The three stories kept me reading long after I should have been sleeping. The stories really made me stop and wonder what I and my family would do if we were hit by an EMP. Hopefully we never will be. Great characters, great lessons.
This was an excellent boxed set. I couldn't put it down. The writing was so good, I felt like I was in the story with the characters. Loved this set completely!!
These stories were very enjoyable. I liked the way they each examined how groups of people with divergent backgrounds come together to handle the aftermath the the EMP.
I love all the books and series by Clay Wise, they have just enough action and issues but they have hope and see the benefits of a community working together. That Hope keeps me going
A very nice collection of three novels about surviving after the EMP hits. All three stories were enjoyable and mostly believable though I wish they had been tied together, at least loosely. There were some minor grammar/editing issues but not bad enough to detract from the enjoyment.
I enjoyed all of the books in this set. Each story has different take on an EMP scenario. The characters are relatable and I was immersed in their world until the last page.
The books were so good hard to put down. I ended up reading the whole set. I am hoping there is another book out for this series. Can't wait to read more books from this author.
I enjoyed this series. There are despicable characters as well as some you will love. Nothing new for the genre but a solid story and many may learn a thing or two.i e enjoyed other stories by these authors as well. Narration by Cheryl May was great.
