The world he selected as his last is Earth, but he arrives at a very unforgiving time in Earth’s history: the beginning.
In The Orris Project, Book One, Origin & Earth, we travel with Garrett through time and over great distances as he works toward his goal of getting a sampling of Earth’s people to the intergalactic machine world called Orris.
In addition to his time on Earth, we also learn about his final year on Osa, before leaving his home permanently to support the Orris Project.
David J. Salisbury enjoyed reading from a young age. He always enjoyed writing and even took a creative writing class in high school, where his writing days ended as far as he knew. He went to a two-year college in upstate New York on a general engineering curriculum designed as a steppingstone into a four-year school but changed curriculums after spending a year working with engineers. In his twenties and thirties, he wrote a series of extremely short stories in his spare time, with his brother as the only intended reader. Both David and his brother enjoyed the stories, but somewhere along the way, they were all lost. At 42 years old, David started writing another short story, again, only intended for his brother to read. That first page of text became the Orris Project, and David discovered that he not only could write full novels but loved doing it.
One of the most unusual books I have read lately... and this was the author's first book. Love the writing style, pulls you in from the start! I quickly became invested in the massive scope of this story. Impossible to put down. Definitely will read the sequel(s).

I do like a nice read and a new author. This book is done well and has great detail of the world they live in. Easy to read and wonderful characters. Note, you will need to read next book to get answers.
Excellent book. Not my typical read. I usually prefer lots of action. This book doesn't have that. What it does do is capture your imagination and humanity. Which is odd since the main character is an alien. You really come to feel for him. Excellent read and exceeded my expectations
Really enjoyed this book. It had an interesting concept and was very imaginative. I especially liked the part dealing with Earth's early days. And the ending was really intense. Somewhat different from other sci fi I've read. I won a copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway for this honest review.
I'll never read another David Salsbury book . He cobbled a failed ending , apologized for it in the afterward, then bragged about expanding the series to 7 books. He's lost touch with the basics.
He evidently thinks he can purposely fail at the climax of a book at his readers will continue to trust him.
Garrett is so relatable despite being an alien?? His struggles are so real- leaving his family to go to the unknown. I loved the writing style with different locations which were planets.. leading the story right along. I needed to think about this book for a while to really understand all the little details that’s how in-depth it was. Will read the second one after I think about this one and maybe do a reread even. Not my usual read but I’m so glad I read it!
Great premise of an ancient civilization terraforming young planets, earth included. It sucked me in immediately. I do think the character interactions could have more depth. Each person’s voice was similar to the next. All in all a terrific read and I will be picking up the next book to follow our protagonist’s journey.
