But the path to true love is never smooth, and Neave’s task turns out to be more difficult than she expects. And when an unwanted suitor starts to stalk her, Neave must turn to John for help. This is the second book in the Courageous Highland Hearts series that centers around the Munro sisters. It is a riveting, fast paced, action packed, romantic adventure from start to finish with all the elements that scottish historical romance readers love. A breathtaking and engaging novel where the characters in this novel are brilliantly drawn. FcćHowever Castel’s skillful writing swept me away in this extraordinary story. A book I highly recommend that can be read as a stand alone book.

Disclaimer: I received an advance readers copy and agreed to do an honest, fair, review and blog through Booksprout. All thoughts, ideas and words are my own.
I have been waiting impatiently for this much anticipated next book in the series of Courageous Highland Heart. And it absolutely did not disappoint! I pretty much read it in one sitting and couldn't put it down.
This book followed the unfolding of the relationship between Neave Munro and John MacKay. There were many twists and turns and moments I wondered how it was all going to work out. But it was beautifully written with so much depth and ended with a very happy and satisfying ending. In particular, I really loved that Neave saw past John's deformities and saw and fell in love with the man behind that. That really won me over. I also really loved the fact that their relationship developed from a rock-solid friendship. In my opinion, the best relationships do! So I loved that aspect!
The only downside for me was that the love scenes were so explicit. I'm a reader who definitely feels that less is more and as long as I can see the passion and love between the characters I much prefer the bedroom door to remain closed. That's why I gave it a 4-star rating.
However, I really loved this story and feel the characters had so much depth and loved their interactions! I am looking so forward to the next book in this series.

Neave and John are great together. I loved the plot and their characters. The pacing was just super slow. It was over halfway through when they finally got together. But when they finally did, their feelings were believable. Overall, it was good
Loved this novel by Jayne Castel! The second installment of the series, Courageous Highland Hearts, follows the ever-growing romance between Neave and John set in Medieval Scotland. John is insecure in himself yet brave whilst Neave is bold and plucky. You’ll find yourself rooting for these two characters as their passion for each other builds. Plenty of action along the way and I particularly enjoyed the teaser introductions of other characters and their emerging love-interests. Can’t wait to read the next book in the series! If you haven’t read one of Jayne’s books before then you’re in for a real treat and if you have, well then, you already know how amazing her romantic historical and fantasy novels are. Page-turning at its best!. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I needed a good friends to lovers romance and this was perfect! I was really excited for John and Naeve, and I love that everyone else around them also was very much rooting for them. I didn't like that Naeve came across as dismissive of John's insecurities at times, but I think this might be one of my favorites in the series.
I liked both the characters and I was excited to read their love story. But it took a long time for them to realize their feelings and even longer to see any romance between them.
Jayne Castel's Highlander Tempted is a must-read for fans who enjoy evocative, enthralling and enjoyable Scottish-set historical romances.

Highlander Tempted is book two by Jayne Castel in the series Courageous Highland Hearts, absolutely loved the story of Neave Munro and John MacKay. It is Dec.25,1437 at Strathnaver, Scotland, John is celebrating with Niel and Beth MacKay, Niel is the clan chief of all the MacKay clans! Neave is Beth sister and John and she have become good friends since Niel and Beth were married. John is the Laird of Achness clan and also Niel cousin, Neave is always trying to play match maker for people and John said he was attracted to Janneth MacKay from another MacKay clan,so she tries to make sure Janneth and John are together at social gatherings. Neave never is concerned about her own love life, is unaware of the black smith who is trying to get her attention,he is showing up and scaring her! Roy Gunn the black smith is not a likeable man, he was kicked out of his clan by his brother, because he is so mean. Most of the story is held at Strathnaver Castle, I would recommend you read the first book in this series to understand about the family relationship and you know the people in this story! I really loved John he is a man that wants to live in peace and find love, but in a battle he lost a eye and one hand. So thinks women will not be attracted to him, Neave tries to make him see that isn't true, he is a courageous man. I think you will enjoy the whole story how all the characters life are so involved, the author Jayne Castel has written another wonderful book, and it flows together so well. I received this as ARC for a review. I would recommend to read this book, so entertaining plot and how everything turns out, but read book one first, will be waiting to read the next book in this series.
(Sigh) What a lovely story of two souls becoming husband and wife. This is a true romantic story of Neave and John.
Neave was one of the four Munroe sisters and seemed to have a penchant to help fate alone. Although her sisters would call it interfering. But Neave never meant any harm. She only wanted happiness for those she cared for and loved.
John is an acclaimed warrior. He lost one eye and hand in the last fight. He felt he would never marry because his looks would disgust females’ sensitivities. Neave was his best friend and she took to helping match him with a young woman whom he had his eye on. (No pun intended) But soon after both came to a reckoning of their true feelings for each other. But was it too late?
Roy the blacksmith admired Neave and wanted her for his own. But something about him put Neave off. Later she would be proven right and luckily John was around to help her. John let Roy go after a serious incident and now regretted it. Roy was stalking Neave. And they discovered he had changed his name and was from a rival clan. So Niel and John with their men and dogs went after Roy.
An excellent story filled with a matchmaking busy body, a warrior who had insecurities about his appearance and a stalker. It also had skirmishes throughout. A wonderful story.

Reasons I enjoyed this book: Action-packed Easy-to-read Entertaining Happily Ever After Romantic Steamy Whimsical Witty Wonderful characters
This story was the perfect balm to the emotional, heartwrenching journey Neil and Beth went through. I thought my poor heart wouldn't be able to bear it but what a surprise when I found myself falling in love with John and Neave's story more and more as it unfolded.
(And giving my heart some much-needed rest from heartbreak lol)
There was no forcefulness to their relationship, for everything happened as it was meant to, from their banter to the realization of their feelings for each other.
It was also very charming and warm how John and Neave approached the acceptance of each other's feelings and the change in their relationship from friends to lovers.
They had to experience some heartbreak, misunderstanding, and acceptance to get their happy ending - which was totally worth it!
Despite that they are the main characters in this story, I also loved that Jayne focused on two particular side characters, using it as a mirror to convey the obvious between John and Neave, and a parallel to how John would later approach Neave.
Seriously, find someone who cares, supports, loves, accepts, and protects you like John and Neave do for each other.

Jayne Castel’s “Highlander Tempted” A Medieval Scottish Romance (Courageous Highland Hearts Book 2)
Neave Munro is a wonderful caring character who after helping her sister and her husband reconcile decides to play matchmaker for her friend John. A renowned warrior, who lost an eye and his right hand in battle years earlier, John Mackay fears no woman will ever want him. Neave decides to help him get the attention of a woman he’s attracted to. But things don’t always go as planned.
I always enjoy Jane Castel’s books. She writes beautifully and this story is filled with such intense emotion that you can’t help but feel. I fell in love with John from the start. It was such a good man and a wounded still a warrior at heart. Neave was kind and cared for John, they were friends after all. What she didn’t know was that she was pushing the things she wanted most in the world into the arms of another.
This story was beautifully written, wonderfully told. The character development, rich world building and compelling storyline along with the heartfelt romance is a wonderful read.
Thank you so much Ms. Castel for this lovely story. I eagerly await the next book in this great series.
An Endearing Love Story: A beautiful all-encompassing emotionally based romance story of discovering the right person to fall in love with. A large cast of characters many from the previous book Highlander Defied. The story revolves around clan politics, social doings and their daily lives, a mystery, a few heartfelt confessions, friendships in peril and so much more. Neave and John are friends from the start, but it takes them going through some unusual situations before they are on the right path of discovering what it is they are really searching for. Of course, we have a crazed villain that interferes and creates much terror and excitement. The intimate scenes between Neave, and John were written with such deep emotional feelings it put a smile of my face and a thump in my heart. This is an endearing romantic story that gave me mush joy to read. The unexpected Epilogue was another treat and makes me look forward to the next book. Adult Advisory: I did receive an advanced copy for my honest opinion which is: I loved this skillfully written romance story that had my complete attention.
Neave Munro is very good at helping others. In fact she prides herself on her ability to solve other peoples problems. She has already helped her sister Beth and Neil reconcile, so she decides she wants to help another friend.
John Mackay lost an eye and a hand to a battle many years ago. Although he still a renown warrior, he doesn't think any woman will want a 'maimed' husband. He watches a beautiful daughter from a fellow cheiftain from afar, but he really never had any intentions of actually approaching her, until Neave, a lady, and a good friend, comes up with one heck of a plan.
But the path to true love is never a straight line, and Neave's task turns out to be a tad more difficult then could have ever expected. And then an unwanted suitor stalks to stalk her, Neave must turn to John for help.
Jayne Castel never lets me down. Another fabulous book. I really enjoyed Neave in the previous book and was really happy to see her fall in love and not even see it until it was almost too late. These two main characters were prefectly matched. I enjoyed every word of this book. Thank you for another fabulous book Ms. Castel.
I loved this one. Neave and John were perfect for one another. John was just so lovely and Neave and her love for her family was very relatable.
I don't have much to say about this one. I liked it that much.
If I had to say something it'd probably be that the authors pacing leafy me disappointed. I was hoping they'd realize their feelings for one another sooner and we'd get to see him transition into being a couple from good friends. Instead, about 65%-ish everything shifts and finally John makes his move. Then they make love and their wedding happens and eventually leave to go to his home. The end.
So, that for sure was disappointing. Because although I did enjoy seeing them as just friends before things shifted in their relationship I didn't like that we spent more than half the story watching Neave push John towards Janneth who was obviously not interested though not a cruel woman. Janneth was a surprisingly lovely character as well but she was in love with another. I just feel like we missed out on seeing them as a couple because of how long that storyline was drawn out.
Ever since Neave Munro’s sister has married the laird of the Mackay clan, she has become fast friends with the laird’s cousin, John, an attractive highlander who’s been seriously injured in battle. When John sets his sight on a beautiful girl, but is afraid of being rejected because of his impairments, Neave decides to help him win the girl’s affection. But why when it seems he’s succeeding in securing a bride does Neave feel less than happy at the idea of losing him? This a really gorgeous series with equally gorgeous characters. In comparison with the previous book, in this one there’s much less angst, because the characters are very good friends before falling in love with each other. I loved John and Neave, who are vivid, refreshing and lovable characters and I enjoyed seeing their friendship turn into love. I also loved reading about Scottish traditions and festivities: Jayne Castel’s descriptions are always amazing, accurate and entertaining. Definitively a five star book. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
John Mackay’s body was covered with scars and he had lost his right hand and eye in battle. Because of this, he decided that no woman would want him. He met Naeve when she and her younger sisters came to live with their sister Beth, the new wife of John’s cousin Niel. A quick and comfortable friendship developed between them, and when he expressed an interest in a certain young lady, Naeve played matchmaker. Meanwhile, Naeve was receiving unwanted attention from a disconcerting male. One thing led to another, and both John and Naeve soon realized that they had each made a critical error. Among other things, this story has action and violence, as well as steamy and tender moments. There are little tidbits of information sprinkled throughout this story that foretell future events; and there feels like a malicious shadow is lurking in the background. As always with this author, the characters are multi-faceted and easily come to life in the reader’s imagination. Very well done! . I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
John Mackay, laird of Achness, may seem quiet, but he is a seasoned warrior with the scars to prove his valor. He's also Neave Munro's friend.
Lady Neave Munro is a loving sister with a kind heart and a spunky outlook. She's also John Mackay's friend.
Everyone saw their friendship turning into a forever love, but their awareness took a bit longer.
I first fell in love with John Mackay in book one of the Courageous Highland Hearts series by Jayne Castel. John's loyalty and goodness all wrapped in a sexy scarred warrior package is my kind of Highlander. Which is why I could not wait to read his own love-match story in Highlander Tempted. It was worth the wait.
Great job Jayne Castel!!
Content 411: This book contains some swearing and sexually intimate scenes that are descriptive.
Disclosure: I received a complementary copy of this book from the author via Booksprout. I am voluntarily submitting my honest review.
Highlander Tempted is the second book in the Courageous Highland Hearts Series by Jayne Castel. This author always brings fresh ideas to her books. In this one, Neave Munro is the second of four girls and next in line to marry according to their customs. She does not see anyone for herself but does want to help her friend, John Mackay approach a girl he finds attractive. John is disfigured from a battle. Without a hand and a eye, he does not believe that any woman would find him attractive and want him for their husband.
Neave comes up with a plan. Then things go awry. Naeve has a stalker and John’s intended has her own problems.
I love the way Jayne Castel writes. Her books are rich in detail and extremely difficult to put down. The hardest part of reading to the end of her books is waiting for the next one.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I loved John and Neave's story so much! It was such a cool contrast to Beth and Niel's story in book one, though not less powerful. Neither John or Neave were expecting their feelings, which only made it so much sweeter when they realized. I enjoyed how well John and Neave knew each other before things turned romantic, and I thought it was a really cool relationship to see blossom as I read the book. I also really liked the side characters this book introduced and teased -- so excited to read Eilidh's book going off of the hints Jayne sprinkled through.
This was another fabulous story by Jayne Castel and I'm waiting impatiently for the next in the series!

This story made this old lady sigh and say "awww". Jayne Castel hits another one out of the park.
Naeve may seem like she's meddling, but she means well. She wants her best friend John Mackay to find happiness. When he admits he has his eye on Janneth, she pushes him to pursue her. Before long, deeper feeling develop... but he's in love with Janneth, right?
John is very self-conscious about his missing hand, eye, and scars. What woman would want to be with him? Naeve tells him differently, and on her advise he attempts a courtship.
I loved this story because these two had a deep friendship from the start, that developed organically into love. I'd give this more stars if I could. Yes, yes, a slow burn, but love takes time.
John was a great character who was kind and courageous but had suffered greatly. He lost his parents in an accident as a young child and was thrust into leadership at a young age. He has barely escaped death on the battlefield but lost an eye and a hand in the process. Although Neave lost her mother she has the love of her 3 sisters, father and stepmother but she fears marrying and being forced to leave her sister's. John and Neave are great friends and the story of their evolving relationship is beautifully told. A book full of action, unrequited love, family, self doubt, friendship and love. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
What can I say , I loved Neave and John's story , it was a slow burn romance of friends who really didn't think of each other in the romantic sense, until circumstances made them both see what was in front of them. I liked that although Neave put on a show of bravado she also had a vulnerability that adhered you to her character John was a warrior who due to injuries gained in battle ( having lost his right hand and an eye) thought that no woman would look at him as husband material Throw into the mix your typical adversary and you have the basis of a cracking read which this is .

I was very interested in the blurb and it did not disappoint. Neave is wonderful and very kind and tries to be help everyone. John is a warrior who has be disfigured from battles. John thinks a woman would not want him because of his appearance. He too is a kind and caring man. In an effort to help John has Neave found her soul mate? Will they find their happily ever after? Read it and find out. I thought the book progressed well and it kept me engaged. The characters were wonderful and interacted well. Great story.

I love this sweet story of John and Neave. John MacKay is a chief and cousin to the MacKay laird. He was injured in battle and does not believe a woman will want him with the loss of an eye and a hand. Neave is younger sister to the MacKay’s wife. Neave and John build an immediate friendship when they first met. Neave tries to help John with the woman he wants but soon finds herself jealous of her. John doesn’t understand his new feelings for Neave since they are such close friends. This book is their journey from friends to lovers that is really well done.
This was such a wonderful story that I been looking forward to. It was difficult to put down. I liked both John and Neave in Niel and Beth's story. Friendship to lovers always takes a while, but it was an interesting journey. I think it takes a special talent to make a story and characters come to life, and Jayne Castel has perfected it. This book can be read alone, but I recommend book one as it is just as wonderful as this story. I look forward to Jean and Robin's book. . Neave is friends John who has lost his right hand and an eye during battle and he is ready to claim a wife but he thinks no woman will have him. Neave is known as a matchmaker so she offers her help with the young woman that he wants but things do not go as planned with the blacksmith wants her only to find out he is cruel and was run off from his own clan. Will John see that Neave is the perfect woman for him?. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the second book in a new wonderful series. This one tugged at my heart. The characters were amazing and captivating and the storyline draws you in and keeps you reading. Can she help him get the woman he want or want ll she realize that in trying to help him she has lost her heart to him. He lost and eye and a hand in battle and is sure no lass will want him. Can the pair find what they both want and find their happily ever after.

“But never think it’s because I don’t care. I will always be here for ye, Neave … always.”
John and Neave are sooo adorable!! This is friends to lovers. John lost his hand and eye in a battle. He is branded a hero and everyone respects him. He is such a gentleman and deserves soo much. Yet he feels like he is damaged goods and unloveable. That no woman would want to marry him. He does have a heartwarming friendship with Neave. She is his best friend and hidden soulmate. I loved everything about this!
