The deadly game to test the worth of mankind continues.
Armed with the knowledge of his previous failure, the Master Hunter is able to piece together fragments of information necessary to take advantage of opportunities once missed. However even as he grows stronger, the need for trustworthy allies becomes evident as Trolls continue to jeopardize the salvation of humanity by sacrificing their own teammates to monopolize all the rewards.
As history seems to be destined to repeat itself, a small but potent beacon of hope emerges from the darkest, most unexpected of places.
Book 2 is packed with action scenes that keep the pace lively. There are bursts of humor that add splashes of color to the grimdark tale. Any foodie will enjoy the wide variety of noms described for meals. There are pivotal points that add layers to the main plot line. I really appreciate how well characters stay true to form, distinct cause & effects and how language does not need to be flowery lengths to express complex and nuanced plot.

01/03/2022 Notes: Master Hunter K
Ch56-186 Read on OppaTranslations Website
**Bonuses for Reading on OppaTranslations** - Extra notes that give more information about some story elements. Those parts could be great addition to the kindle as glossary at the end of the ebook. - Notes from the author, From Hell. He explained the way some of the characters were created and implemented in the story. - Getting to know the translation team a bit. - English Translation has an alternative ending to the series. The translators asked the author to write a different ending than the one he had originally written. Cool interactions between author, translation team and the online readers.
I really enjoyed reading this series. It's a portal-dungeon story with interesting characters, complex plot connections, and fun raids with a variety of classic + unique mobs.
The translation team would benefit from having an English editor to look over the translation. The story is very readable, but some sentences/phrase formats are clunky and fragments vs complete sentences.
I enjoyed the story and plan to read the other books that OppaTranslations have on the website.
12/24/21 Notes: Master Hunter K #1 (Ch1-55)
1) Master Hunter K is a Korean webnovel that was translated by OppaTranslations.
2) I came across the audiobook on Audible. I read a mix of reviews on Audible + GR. Since I've been on a reading spree on translated Asian webnovels, I figured I would give this one a try. It's on KU.
3) There are a lot of complaints about the main character. Right from the get go, you find out that Sung Jin is the last one to die in some battle, given a chance to go back and try again. Then the story unfolds in a manner to show the results of what it's like to be a survivor of horrors. Sung Jin is a prickly pear. He's not meant to be a likeable character off the bat. I thought the way he was presented was well done and consistent to the character build that's drawn out by the author. Within the story setting & boundaries, Sung Jin acts true to his character.
I liked the setup for the story. There are plenty of stories out there with OP characters. Not all of them are fun to read. Sung Jin is not perfect and it shows. I liked the way he has to deal with the ups and downs in becoming the best.
Lots of stories with intense conflict rarely deal with the traumas of being in battle or insane events. I like that PTSD is a part of the story line in a believable fashion.
4) There are cool art pieces by an artist called Starwars Coffee in the ebook.
5) Overall, OppaTranslations did a good job in transferring the story to English. There are still some grammar mistakes and other errors, but they're not to the point that I'm put off like some other translations.
6) Travis Baldree is the narrator for the audiobook. He's a good narrator. I'll probably get the audiobooks. It depends on how the story ends.
7) This webnovel has been finished. Ch1-55 are in book #1. I know the rest of the story will be released on KU at some point, but I don't want to wait. The rest of the series is available to read on the translators website. Considering that most of the Asian webnovels that I've been reading go over a thousand chapters, this will be a breeze. =P
Politics may be an evil, but to save everyone it may be necessary in some fashion
As we see “K” progress further through the raids, he has put together a method of both making money through auctions. Plus a possible way of affecting the outcome of the raids in a small way. But the result ends up larger than he expected. As his strength continues to skyrocket, he discovers a way to share a portion of that strength. He then sets about picking the best honorable dependable Hunters he can find and marking them. I won’t spoil it for you but it definitely gets wild and we see so much more of the classes, skills and magic of this new world.
Maybe because I knew it was a translation before I started this time, but I could easily see the moments where some concept or interaction did not translate well. Really, the whole thing reads like a video game play-through to a certain extent.
I can’t recommend the series, but I *did* find it entertaining enough to finish. …and I have pre-ordered the next installment, so…
Book 1 came out of nowhere and I really enjoyed it. Yes, the Korean translation is not perfect, but that's okay. I could look past that.
in book two we pick up where Sungjin left off. Because he's been through this fight for humanity before, he knows how to change dimensions, how to change his title, and what bosses they'll fight and how to beat them.
We see more of the same up until about the halfway point, and that's where things change. The focus shifts from battle after battle to reminiscing about how they lost last time around, and what Kei could do to fix it. He's also anointing certain people when others give up 10% of their rewards, setting the stage for the final battles.
As usual, the battles are well done, and there are still some secrets that Kei doesn't know about. Having said that, Sungjin doesn't have a personality. He's ethical, believes in doing right, is a strong fighter, and... that's it. I'll read book 3 when it comes out, but for the action, because there isn't anything else of note in the story.
This review was a tough decision for me. I like the basic story of the series, quite a bit actually, but in this book were too many questionable choices by the main character for me. They weren't bad choices, mind you, it just felt to me like they did not fit the character at all. Perhaps it was mostly personal preference, though, so take this with a grain of salt.
I did not have as much fun with this book as I wanted to, and I got more and more dissatisfied with the main character as the time went on. I like the framework, and got curious by the one or other story hint the author dropped. The wordsmithing itself is pretty nicely done. And I still hold out hope.
That said, I will finish the series. Perhaps it's the issue with the middle-book, perhaps it's just a taste thing. I am getting the feeling I'll like book 3 better, but we'll see. I will continue, just not with as much enthusiasm as I'd like to.
So I know the general layout and story of all the novels in this series is by necessity kind of the same. For some reason I still really like it. You would think it would get boring, but it doesn’t.
MC keeps accruing cool titles and loot, and has to come up with creative ways to work the system to stay ahead of the curve. Love how he is building his own team and am curious to see how this is fleshed out.
Ive read a few op Mc books, but this series teumps them by far, there legitimate plot development past kill everything and be cool. There enjoyable side characters Atwell. This book deos a good job at making a story about a op Mc with out falling in to the usual trap found in them
Things are getting tougher for Master K, and he has started to gather some hunters he wants to be with him at the end. I think I'm starting to get a feel for the more terse narrative....which might have something to do with it being a translation. I still am greatly enjoying the book. Looking forward to the next one!
This book seemed more sure of itself as the author seems to now have a better grasp of the character. I am enjoying the story but the Trolling is a little off putting. I understand that the dead people are not dead but added to those in purgatory, but still a bit off.
I've been waiting for this book to come out ever since the release of the first one. No nonsense just quest loot upgrade and overcome. Now I have to wait for the third book pre-order now
Fun easy quick read that moved the story along. I do wish that we got to see more of the greater powers as part of the game. I will definitely be getting the third installment when it comes out
There are certain trends developing that could influence the direction of the story, but it is just fun to read it anyway. This is not deep and it can be obvious at times, but still it is good.
I have a soft spot for progression LitRPG stories. Although this was a fairly short read, I was thoroughly entertained. The plot wasn’t too complex but the MC’s steady growth and the different character interactions kept me hooked.
Read it as a web novel and reading again on KU. Fantastic story arc. Needed way too soon for my taste, but I recognize I am just being greedy. You absolutely should read everything from this author.
K is finally getting his final 10 together, starting to figure more things about the Raid. Has a really bad stopping point, leaves you hanging for more. I am counting the days til book three comes.
More elements of the regression style story line were incorporated this time, but like a normal person would remember over a years worth of stuff. Adding more characters rounded out the MCs character well, from a loner to a leader.
This seemed much worst than the first book. Far more literal translation that doesn't work, clunky grammar and speaking. I don't know if the first translator elevated the first book, or the second translator lessened it. Either way, not good.
It was quite good, but the constant fights and black market shopping got quite repetitive at the end. I found myself skipping some fights because I already knew that Sungjin will of course win. Nevertheless, it was quite enjoyable.
It was fine, but a soft magic system, so not really up my alley. Personally I don't like when it's so easy for the protagonist as well. I made it through the first one and barely into the second book when I stopped reading them.
Just as good as the first book! Not much changed between books, it’s singing the same tune every raid level, but as of yet it hasn’t gotten monotonous. I can tell it’s building up into a great conclusion
