A well-informed retrospective about the next economic superpowers
China and India are both vast, dynamic countries. The pace of their progress is furious and they are earmarked to become “the planet’s next economic superpowers.” Many commentators on Asia fall into the trap of a stereotype, as if they are classifying China and India together under one broad title – “Chindia.” However, China and India are starkly different nations, as highlighted in this book edited by Pete Engardio. For readers unfamiliar with either country, this text provides an easy-to-read introduction. It revisits some of the most common facts and fallacies about economic and business life in both states. getAbstract recommends this well-written, well-edited retrospective archive of BusinessWeek articles as an excellent historic source for anyone interested in China and India’s economic emergence during the past several years.
Fun and engaging read, but feels quite outdated as most predictions have been realised nowadays. So I have read the first half of the book, and did not finish the other half because of the aforementioned reason.
Both India and China have large and growing technical resources such as engineers and scientists, many of whom are entrepreneurial. Together, they graduate a half million per year vs. 70,000 in the US. Together, China and India's GDP is only 6% of global GDP, half that of Japan. However, China's GDP is growing at 9%/year and India s at 7%! As almost everyone knows, China has become the world's manufacturing hub with high and improving quality for many products and India has become the world's software, technology and services...
should be a valuable one, as to the fact that now both countries are Hotter in terms of its improving global business and investment...and if those powers are united, big chance that a new big hit region is coming...
Admittedly, I skimmed sections of this book while reading other sections with great care. I learned a lot about the current economic and social pictures of India and China, and how they will impact the world in the coming years. I think understanding these two nations will be vital in the future.
I'm reading this for a class at work. You need to read to understand where the world economy will be in 20 years. The US will be slipping to 2nd and 3rd to India and China.
