Yolk's on Me

Rate this book
Mauve’s a little needy. But could you blame her? She’s the daughter of an actress and a circus clown – craving attention is in her blood. Unfortunately, her attempt to dazzle the popular kids at high school ends in pity and actual egg yolk. She has never been one to give up. When she sort-of gets invited to an influencer-star studded birthday party, she knows this is her big break. The only one stopping Mauve is herself, and she can’t handle any more egg on her face.

Perfect for fans of The Field Guide to the North American Teenager and Dork Diaries.

A short story about a teenage girl called Mauve who is determined to make an impression.
This is a great concept that I'm sure many young teens would relate to in regards to seeking attention and acceptance from peers.
The writing itself is of a 'busy' style and personally I found it to be a little chaotic for my liking.
The actual story could have done with a bit more substance throughout, and I also felt it could have had a stronger ending with possibly some sort of moral in regards to the importance of self-respect and confidence.
However, in all it is still an entertaining book that just requires a little refinement.

A fun story about a girl named Mauve trying hard to get attention. I hope the author continues and adds more to the story.

I loved the storyline of Mauve craving attention and doing things in order to earn attention and acceptance. I just felt like where were a few details missing. There could have been more descriptions about what was happening in the scenes. At the end, I would have liked more emphasis on the importance of having good self esteem and being herself and not needing to do all that for attention. I think the story is very relevant to the times because kids and adults struggle with acceptance. Great story. Just needs to be cleaned up a bit.

Yolk’s On Me is a fun short story about Mauve, a girl who strives for the attention of others. I liked how this story tackled self esteem and self worth; but I found that there could’ve been more descriptions surrounding how Mauve was feeling in those moments. Some parts of the story also tend to jump around from different locations, but overall I really enjoyed this story!

I was given this book as an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Cute, quick short story about a main character that seeks the attention and friendship of her high school peers. I especially loved that the popular kids were kind and willing to give our main character the benefit of the doubt.

I enjoyed the writing. You are in the MMC's chaos-loving head, so the writing reflected a hyper-energetic thought pattern. I liked how well it fit our story and it trusted the reader to keep up.

This is a fun short story which would ideally suit 9-12 year olds. It about a young girl trying to fit in with her sassy peers; Destiny Henderson has really captured the struggle to fit in well whilst off-setting it with comic moments. Filled with fun characters and lots going on, I think this is a good book which I would recommend.

The yolk is truly on me for reading this story. As one reviewer wrote, the story is truly all over the place. I tried so hard to get through this book but couldn’t. It seems as if it’s one of those stories that just ends out of nowhere and leaves you with no resolution. It was just really underwhelming.

This was a cute short story about coming to age and self esteem. I loved Mauves character but I wish the ending had a little bit more to it. I would have loved to see Mauve accept her friends advice and succeed!
