I normally don’t read post-apocalyptic books like this but I’m happy that I did. It was a complete escape from my everyday life and that’s one of the things I look for in a novel. As with the author’s other books, I find her writing descriptive enough that I can picture myself in the story. Similar to other reviewers, I didn’t really like many of the characters in the beginning, but as you get to know them and they stories, they do grow on you… even Zon! When the survivors find the island, hoping for the best, everything that can go wrong continues to do so. With the slower pace of the island, there is finally time for the characters to develop more and we learn more about them and their relationships. When Gunner, Pauline, Zon and Jessie are found by the yacht I wondered if Archer Mahoney had come to the rescue (sorry – reference to another Kendall Talbot series)! Upon reaching the USA and beginning the search for various family members, I could sense the desperation of the 4 from the ship but also from the survivors on the mainland. I would like to read a follow up book about how the survivors settle back at home. Each book seemed to have a distinct change of pace – the first was quite frenetic, the second a bit slower while the survivors tried to make the island inhabitable and the third was a combination of the two. I think that the second book could possibly have been a bit shorter. While reading the first book I kept thinking that I never want to go on a cruise. By the end of the third book I thought it might not be such a bad idea. I agree with others who have said this trilogy needs to be read in order. Kendall Talbot first thank you for this series & secondly if you like stories like these I highly recommend it. This series has bought for me a new level of EMP stories. It's the one I've read like this in a setting that never entered my mind. I will admit after reading this I don't know if I could go on a cruise now. With these types of stories there's always action and the thought that it could happen is terrifying especially with everything happening now. I know what a EMP would do to our power grid but never gave thought to what would happen to anything on the water. I would hope they are some how hardened against this type of thing but since the US knows this could happen by solar flares or EMP no action has been taken to help protect our power grid. We all know what happened to Canada several years ago. I read this trilogy daily after getting it but with it being over 1100 pages a little bit to read ( I eventually have to sleep lol) Also until I went to do the review I didn't know the writer was a lady ( not that matters one bit at all) but but she has a good imagination and I can't wait to follow Son and Jessie. My problem is with books in series is I never want them to end.
Best Catastrophic Disaster Thriller Series! I have long enjoyed well-done Disaster movies and catastrophe books. Arthur Hailey's Airport is one of my favorites. This series would make the best TV show, movie, or mini-series. It is somewhat of a cross between The Last Ship and Mad Max. Faced with a catastrophic EMP blast that takes modern people and puts them in a situation where they just don't have the skills. I love this series and would suggest binge-reading it! The author puts the reader into the action and the emotions very well. The descriptions of the horror facing these people are just fantastic. Just as importantly, she peels back the personalities of the characters, good, bad, or flawed, so that you know the what and why of what makes them tick. I do not like horror as it gives me nightmares and makes me jump at shadows. This is not that kind of book. There is nothing done for shock value. It is more a character study of how incredible circumstances bring out the mettle of a person. I plan on reading the series again. I enjoyed this book as it was different front many post apocalyptic EMP books I’ve read. Especially as it centered on a cruise ship in the beginning. I liked how each book had a different environment. I read this as a set so my review is for all three books. I really enjoyed Madeline and Sterling’s love story in the first book. Madeline’s story was horrific but was sensitively told. I appreciate that. Their development was sweet and romantic. I can’t believe that I ended up liking Zon, his character was interesting and had the greatest development in my opinion. The same with Gabby who I did not like until hearing her story with her mother. Heartbreaking. I was happy that Gunner got out of his rut and became the leader he was supposed to be. The whole trilogy was full of excitement and adrenaline. I suppose it wasn’t a full post apocalyptic world as it was mainly America that was affected. I must admit I’m with Zon in that I really didn’t want them to leave the island.
Just as Jaws may not be a relaxing read for an oceanside adventure, you may not want to pack this for a cruise ship vacation. But if you love heart-pounding suspense, this is the book for you!
I'd never read a book by this author, but the premise of the story seemed outstanding: an EMP; an approaching storm; a crippled ocean liner. That added up to a pending catastrophe on a grand scale, which is my kind of fiction. And Kendall Talbot is a great storyteller. I'm so glad I got to read this omnibus!
From the opening scenes, what the crew and passengers went through kept me burning through the pages, long into the night. I liked how the author alternated the chapters' perspectives to the POVs of each main character. This allowed me to learn about them and understand their inner motivations. There were many whose survival I deeply cared about.
Plus, this gave the opportunity to peek into how the romances were developing.
This series was a big undertaking and it was cohesive, coherent, dynamic, and climactic. I had no problem following any part of it. I enthusiastically recommend this edition, which includes all three volumes. Because, believe me, you'll want to know what happens!
I thank author Kendall Talbot and BookSprout for the honor of reading a free advanced review copy of The Waves of Fate series. I don't usually review (or even finish) books that I don't like, free or not, so please be assured that my review is honest and especially enthusiastic!
This is the first book I've read by this author and I really enjoyed it. An EMP hits America and destroys all the electronics. This story takes place on a cruise ship with eleven hundred passengers and crew, where the captain dies because of his pacemaker, then you have the first mate stepping up with no training with being on the ocean with desperate humans on a ship. You go through what some of the passengers are going through with keeping their children alive, getting stuck in an elevator, a gambler who's out to grab and rob whatever he can and get home to his family. You get a chance to see how people react to things that they can't control. You get the good, bad and ugly of people. I have a new author that I can follow for some exciting journeys and disaster thrillers.

Wow! I really liked this book set. I liked that I didn’t have to wait to read the next book but could continue to the next book without interruption. An EMP hits America and destroyed all electronics. The book starts with a cruise ship and you follow the survivors throughout the three books, you slowly learn what happened and you get to know the characters. I liked Gunner and his drive to get back to his family and Zon who becomes a hero but doesn’t feel like one. This was an incredible journey and I was sorry to see it end. I would recommend this book set.

As we got to know all the people, we, as readers, could safely enjoy the dangerous situations, feeling certain that some of them would survive it all. Zon was our unlikely hero. Courage and determination were to be found in all our survivors. After reading these books, I am thinking quite differently about taking another cruise vacation! The story had a reasonably satisfying ending. The epilogue was really necessary, as I had become attached to all of these people. This entire story would certainly make an exciting action movie (or series of movies).
I’ve read many books about the end of the world as we know it and I must say, this one ranks right up there. To be a on ocean cruise ship when it loses power would be truly horrifying. But for an EMP to be the cause? Double that horror. And then for a second EMP to happen? Unbelievable! This is what happens to the Rose of the Sea and all her 1100+ passengers and crew. Now throw in a hurricane and a plane crashing into the ship and you have the ultimate horror on your hands. I highly recommend reading this trilogy that has been so thoughtfully made into a boxed set for your reading pleasure!
This boxset has all 3 full books of the Waves of Fate series. I like getting all the books together, so I don’t have to wait!
I enjoy these dystopian type of stories, so this was entertaining for me. Like all the action and the dynamics between the characters dealing with such a disastrous turn of events. Cool premise; there was an EMP (ElectroMagnetic Pulse) set off, so all the electronics have stopped working, and the characters; good and bad, are all trapped on a ship. Plenty of dangerous situations to be had! A fun series!
Very good plot. Full of action, mystery, adventure, and even love and family values. Believable and well-developed characters. Even the ending was both believable and good. The only reason I did not give these books a 5-star rating It's because they are all full of misspelled, misused, missing, and even duplicate and extraneous words that are annoying and distracting.
This was the first book I read fro. This author and found it very entertaining. What qould you do if you were stranded in a cruise ship after an emp? The characters were well written and gave you a suspe soul and entertaining read.

This has been an amazing trilogy. Everything about it was great. I lost myself in the words. It's what we dream of being on an island that has plenty of sun, food and all our friends and family around us. It was a very easy-to-read book. Kendall Talbot is my new go-to author. I really recommend this book and author.
This series was amazing and weird. I had read it when it first came out, not realizing it till I started reading it. Back then I thought no way stuff like that would happen. But the way the world is today it could very well come true. Thank you Kendall you have put so much into this series congratulations.
I read dystopian novels all the time. This is the first one. I have read where the main characters were originally on a ship at sea when the EMP hit. Really intriguing, kind of reminds me of Gilligan’s Island, but on steroids. Definitely worth a read, enjoyable, interesting, and somewhat informative.
I loved this series of books. From the very beginning to the end I found it enjoyable. It was easy to visualize each of these characters and the locations each book took place in. I stayed up later then I should more then 1 night reading this series.
This was one gripping collection A disaster occurs that no one expected. Each page has you wondering what could possibly happen next I was completely caught up with the characters and how they’ll survive.
Giving the author all my best. This hit me at just the right time. I inhaled all 3 books. If I'd've known she was a "romance" writer I would've passed, but I'm glad I didn't. Good characters. I was waiting for the "asshole" character that everyone hates trope, but she didn't descend to that.
This is one of the most entertaining set of books I have ever read. Wondering what I would do in their situation, getting to know the characters, and imagining the setting kept me reading nonstop. I highly recommend it.
This series of books kept me up late at night, intrigued from beginning to end, and fascinated with each page! I loved every horrible moment and cheered every happy time in these books. You will not be able to tear yourself away from these books! ENJOY!!
Certainly makes you concider what would happen if your cruise ship lost all power to maneuver the ship or run the ship without hydro, lights, flushed toilets. Then comes the terror of being on land without power, and devastation all over the globe without electricity power
This is a very different kind of book to what I usually read it shows you what could happen and how people can survive appallingly situations it’s a good read but I thought it was cut short
I liked this series, and enjoyed the growth of the characters. A few parts did drag, but overall it was a good mix of relationships and action. A couple of places I would've enjoyed spending more time, but won't say where because it would give some surprises away.
WOW! Great series. I really liked how the three books were different but the story continued. The way the main characters evolved was right on the mark and the pace was good throughout. It would sure make a great movie!
This series was gripping! Page turning tense! I couldn’t put it down! I just can not imagine going on a cruise and then getting hit with an EMP! A must read.
I love this series. Having all the books in one is amazing because one you start you will want to read them all. The characters are great to get to know as each chapter switches point of view
