Red: A steamy hook-up with Shayne is meant to be a once-off… Until I discover the tempting, human omega is my fated mate. Now I’m imagining whisking him away from his big city life, revealing the secret of wolf shifters, and raising pups with him in our small mountain town.
One huge problem — I’m the pack Alpha. I have boundaries to enforce, treaties to secure, and secrets to keep. And if I claim a mate, I’m bound by oath to pass the title to my deadbeat brother who is not ready for the responsibility.
I can’t put the Darlington pack at risk… But I’d do anything to keep Shayne.
Shayne: The town sign sums it up: “Darlington - Population ???” This place is off the map, literally. I’m here to see my suddenly-pregnant bestie, and then zoom back to my downtown corner office by Monday.
Fooling around with bold, woodsy alpha, Red, is a casual treat. Until I discover how unique, sincere, and kind he is… and start wanting to have his babies.
The commanding alpha clearly has me in his sights. Will his hunger for me blow up both of our lives?
Red Hot Fate is the first book in the Darlington Pack Series, featuring mpreg, a close-knit pack, family drama, and small town coziness to delve into. With a confident human omega and a daring wolf shifter alpha, this fated mate mm romance will have you rallying behind Shayne and Red until they get their guaranteed HEA!
If you love unusual characters, binge-worthy plots, and steamy romance with lots of heart, curl up with Dylan Reece’s omegaverse mpreg novels. Dylan’s series are set in a shared universe with cross-over characters and detailed world building that will transport you to quirky small town Darlington.
Fated mates or not, you don't get to feel "betrayed" when you've only dated for about a week and bae needed to find a way to work up to telling you that he's an actual wolf shifter, SHAYNE.

⭐︎2.25 "Red Hot Disappointing" Stars Rounded Down⭐︎
Another mpreg story bites the dust. I was considering giving this 3 stars, but the more I thought about the story, the more I felt it deserves 2.25 stars rounded down.
This was...okay. It was...meh.
I give it points for being somewhat interesting at times like sometimes when Red and Shayne were having sex, it was hot, and sometimes the story was grabbing my interest, such as in the beginning when it showed the most promise.
And even though Red and Shayne had an insta-love connection, being "fated mates" and all, they were actually enjoyable at times, overall, and had some good chemistry. Things do happen WAY too fast between them, to be sure, and the try at "angst" between them just pissed me off, but at times I was just enjoying their interactions.
But this book had a lot of problems, too.
It wasn't best edited - had quite a few grammar mistakes here and there - and it felt more like a fanfic author developing as a writer...as in, getting there, but not quite there yet.
This is an omegaverse shifter, except shifters (not just wolves, but bears and foxes and so on) are still in secret. Humans rule the world still, but they still have alpha and omegas and mpreg, just...they're non-shifters, and they don't know about shifters.
Shayne is a human and isn't in the know, and he goes to visit Peter (who is the MC from the .5 story, which I wasn't aware of before I started reading this) in the small Darlington town in the literal middle of nowhere.
He and Red have an instant connection, and Red knows Shayne is his fated mate, but thinks he can resist, because Shayne doesn't know about werewolves and his twin brother, Atlas, doesn't want to take power as the Pack Alpha if Red gets his mate. Shayne thinks he'll be there for the weekend and that Red is just a fling, even though he feels that intense connection as well.
They have sex before they even really talked to each other. It all happens really fast.
Red is responsible and uses condoms, but he really wants to claim Shayne as the days go by - by which I mean, literal days.
Red and Shayne only know each other for 4 days before Red tells Shayne about being a werewolf. Shayne takes it badly and thinks Red is joking and using it to let him down easy or something, and he thinks of it as a "betrayal" that Red didn't tell him about werewolves right away, after he sees Red shift and believes him, that is.
Come ON. it was FOUR days. For the love of god, that "drama" was ridiculous. And this was after Red had asked Shayne to stay longer than the 4 days with him, before Shayne knew about werewolves, and Shayne rejected that, then got upset at Red apparently rejecting him when Red told him to leave after Shayne said he wouldn't stay, because Shayne thought they'd still have some fun while he was there (and Red was only asking him to leave because he was close to shifting anyway)
Like?? Logic, what logic? Shayne has none. Then after all the drama of finding out about werewolves, Shayne almost leaves town, is in the car and everything, before Atlas stops him and convinces him to stay and hear Red out. So ridiculous.
And then once he does, it's pretty smooth sailing after that. The only drama is outside forces with the bear shifters potentially starting a shifter war.
Shane, within about a week of "getting to know Red and taking it slow" after him finding out about werewolves and then making up with him, agrees to stay forever and quit his city life, and to take Red's bite to become his mate officially, and get pregnant as well.
The mpreg part of this is barely even there. Werewolves in this have babies incredibly fast - within 8 to 9 weeks - and this story, which spent so much time on about 4 days, then skips ahead a few weeks, and then a few weeks after that and Shayne is already pregnant and showing, and then a weeks after that, and then a whole month later and he's already at 8 weeks, and he has the baby, and then we barely get anything with said baby. Like for an mpreg shifter story, not a lot of time is focused on the pregnancy or the baby.
That's something I don't like with mpreg stories. They don't necessarily have to focus on the baby too much, although that would be nice near the end of stories, but I like mpreg stories to focus heavily on the mpreg, otherwise what's the point? If you're gonna include, have it be important.
And then the ending happens, which is a cliffhanger, not even about Red and Shayne, and the epilogue is in Atlas' POV, so we don't even get an epilogue with the main couple. It's like the story was already done with Red and Shayne, and the author just didn't want to bother anymore, and you get the sense the author was ready to move onto the next story. That's never the greatest thing in a story.
Also near the end we barely got any focus on Red and Shayne. They had their baby, and then Red was and then some time had gone by and oh the baby has a name (which, we didn't get to see them thinking up a name for said baby) and also we don't even really get a scene focused on Red and Shayne together, happy and in love. Further proof the author just wanted to be done with this couple.
It was just not a strong ending at all, and ended so abruptly too with that cliffhanger.
I just have no interest in continuing this series after the ending of this, and the overall "meh" feeling while reading this.
Unfortunate, because I was hoping for a good mpreg/shifter romance story.
Came across this on KU, decided to try it. Not a bad first in a series, interesting mythology, in which shifters are either born or created via bite. Fated mates and mating compulsion.
Shayne, the omega, a human, a city boy through and through, visits his BFF Peter who moved to a small town in BFE some 8 months ago. Peter is mated to Jonathan, a big burly kind of man and wolf shifter, and pregnant. While there, Shayne meets Red, also big and burly and a wolf shifter. Humans don't know about shifters.
They meet, they fuck in Peter's house that same evening (because mating compulsion draws human Shayne to wolfy Red, and vice versa), and then Red tries to deny fate and pretend he's only going to have some fun with the omega.
Sure, Red. Famous last words, LOL.
From there, the rest of the plot happens fairly quickly. Human Shayne finds out about wolves, there's a kidnapping, a feud with a bear sleuth bordering the wolves territory, and some drama with Red and his brother.
The super fast way Shayne goes from hot shot lawyer townie to being all about living in the woods with Red, quitting his job and his previous life, all of which was covered in just a few sentences, was a little bit too rapid for my taste, but YMMV.
Like I said, pretty good first book in a series, setting up the world. On to the 2nd book.
Hmmm I can't figure out just what it is that is off about this series for me. It has all the things I am looking for; fated mates, sizzling romance, pack drama, and happily-ever-afters but something is just not working for me. I was intrigued by Shayne enough to dive into this book and I liked his journey to true love with Red.
But I think what is throwing off the book for me is the pacing and communication. Now don't get me wrong, Shayne and Red have some serious sexual chemistry, I am talking off the charts. But they seem to lack anything deeper, they don't really have any heartfelt conversations and any issue that erupts seems to be resolved with a quick f*ck. I get the whole fated mates thing but I wanted some substance to their relationship and I think that was missing. Shayne was sassy and horny while Red was so conflicted over his devotion to the pack and his desire to claim Shayne. And by the end of the book, they still seemed like virtual strangers who just met up over Tinder for a quick hookup.
Outside of the romance, the tensions in the pack are rising with the nearby Bear shifters trying to encroach on their land. I liked this conflict but the 'cliffhanger' ending left a sour taste in my mouth. I wasn't a fan of that at all. In addition to the whole power conflict happening between Atlas and Red. Who should be alpha, why is Atlas so reckless, will Atlas ever get over this jealousy? I was initially going to pick up the next book but I just don't care enough to. Kind of bummed as another series and new-to-me author is a flop.
i really like how Red and Shayne first met, and how the mate connection was "built." and how Alpha Red really can't stay away from Shayne and was willing to do anything to be with Shayne.
If anyone ever saw the Lego movie and remember the unicorn in the conference room saying repeatedly “business, business, business” this story is the equivalent of that. No real world building, shifters of different kind like bears, babies being born at 8 weeks or so because that’s just shifter dna, our MC is a lawyer but aside from his corner office and shuffling paper around what does he actually do? When there’s a confrontation with the bears they smell so bad to the wolfs that’s they almost get attacked because of how busy they are gaging? Oh and pet dogs are familiars so if a pet goes missing it’s a sign of aggression.
This is a new author to me and I enjoyed reading this delightfully sweet Mpreg omegaverse shifter romance. The plot has good world-building with an intriguing light-hearted undertone & has good scene descriptions. The two main characters (a pack alpha “Red” of the Darlington wolf pack) & (a citified human male omega, Shayne) soon discover that what the heart wants cannot be denied no matter how hard you fight against it. There is good support from the secondary characters. There is: Red’s somewhat self-destructive twin brother (Atlas), mild twists, some drama, intrigue, various kinds of shifters, fated mates, sibling issues, friendship, threats, secrets, trust issues, attractions, memories, apprehension, indecision, doubts, emotional turmoil, mild kink, surprises, love, steamy scenes & happy conclusion for this couple with a interesting epilogue that has a jaw-dropping cliffhanger. Naturally, I am definitely looking forward to the next book in this series with great anticipation & would recommend this book.
The good + How in sync they were with their expectations from their relationship. First, they both wanted nothing more than a single night. Then, they simultaneously decided they wanted to try more. And then they wanted forever/kids/family at the same time too + Their love and how most of the angst was outside their relationship. They were very strong together + The way Red never gave up on his brother. He may have found him deadbeat and immature, but Red still saw his twin brother in him + Atlas' growth throughout the book + That Red and Atlas didn't really see eye to eye in human form, but went back to being twin brothers whenever they were in wolf form + That Red got to tell Shayne his secret on his own terms, instead of Shayne finding out accidentally because of outside forces + Jake. For now, it seems like species have no choice but to join a pack/sleuth of their own species, but I hope later on there will be a mixed-species pack of misfits or found family + The first sentence of the epilogue. I mean seriously, it's so damn fitting that the first thing from Atlas' perspective is a description of the steam rising from his piss
The neutral o I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. My review remains honest and unbiased o I have not read the prequel novella, but the book was easy to follow without that o Atlas was obviously having psychological issues, but nobody helped him! It was so clear his self-destructive behavior came from a place of depression or self-loathing, but Red was super surprised every time he found out one of Atlas' insecurities or just anything about him in general o This book ends on a cliffhanger, but the story for these MCs has reached its HEA
The bad - - - The whole business with the oath sworn to their father about who was to be pack Alpha and when seemed kind of arbitrary to me. Why would they hold that oath at all? And what would happen if they both found their fated mate? And I have to agree with Atlas, I think having a family would only make someone a stronger Alpha - Shayne's slick was almost a third main character. It flooded, it sprayed, it flowed, and it was described in extensive detail multiple times. Honestly, at some point it was just kind of disgusting to me...
I wavered between three and four stars a lot for this book. I really loved some things while disliking others. I have decided for three stars, because a lot of the things I enjoyed about this book had to do with Atlas instead of Red and Shayne. However, I do recommend this book. It's sweet and these men fit very well together. I'll also read the next book, because it's about my boy Atlas. Can't wait to see him growing into his Alpha role.
This was fabulous. I'm on a omegaverse binge read at the moment and this book was everything I love about the genre, and then more.
I really adored the prequel novella "Twice Bitten", about Peter and Jonathan, and although this first book can be read as a standalone pretty easily, I'm glad I decided to read that one beforehand, since it contains some important background information about the Darlington Pack. "Red Hot Fate" though? I LOVED IT. Shayne and Red were utterly fantastic protagonists; the side characters were equally amazing and lovable; the prose was *chef kiss* and the plot and the atmosphere were both addicting. This novel is a blend of steamy and sweet, light-hearted and heart-stopping. I'm usually not the biggest fan of insta-love, but I'm enjoying the fated mates trope a bit more every time I read a novel with it: Shayne and Red aren't looking for love, but love literally slams into them so suddenly and so forcibly that they d0n't stand a chance. Usually when a novel is so sweet and romantic, the sexy moments tend to be coloured by that light-hearted feel: here, on the other hand, the more intimate moments between both of them are so high-heat I had to take a bit of a breather each time. ALSO: a tiny, tiny bit of breeding kink? *nods in approval* The chemistry between Shayne and Red is so explosive and you can literally feel how inescapable the feelings between them are, how impossible for them it is to fight their attraction. And, although the plot is fairly light-hearted, there's also a bit of angst that made the reading experience even more enjoyable: there's a bit of relationship angst, that thankfully gets resolved pretty easily, but also a fair bit of outside tension connected to Red's relationship with his twin and the local bear shifters.
The side characters were so lovable: Peter and Jonathan were, as usual, fantastic and so sweet they literally melted my heart, the whole pack was wonderful (FOUND. FAMILY. VIBES.) and, although Atlas was a bit harder to like, I'm really, really curious to read his story: the blurb for his book sounds amazing and that last chapter? AHHH *freaks out* colour me intrigued. ALSO: OHMYGOD, THAT CLIFFHANGER FINALE. I screamed. I can't wait to read the next book.
Thank you GRR for the ARC. I received it in exchange for an honest review.
WHAT. WAS. THAT. CLIFFHANGER. oh my god, where is the next book *cries*
Shayne and Red knew that they were meant for each other when they met on the road that Shayne was travelling. Red knew more so that Shayne was his fated mate. Shayne begins to realize it through deja vu.
Shayne was quite the character, and I liked him. And Red was a worrywart but he was nice too. I think what I loved the most was the interactions each of them had with friends and family, it really gave a lot of depth to the characters and story. This book has insta-love which I'm all for, but I also enjoyed how both main leads got to know more about each other and how they handled their fights, with a bit of help. I hope we get to see more about the babies in the next books, that wasn't nearly enough. Now, the bit about the bears felt a bit too much like filler, I hope that we can see a bit more in the next book or at least a conclusion. I'm not a fan of cliffhangers, though I don't hate them either but this one left me a bit frustrated as it was big.
I wasn't sure I wanted to read Atlas' book at the beginning as I didn't like him that much in the last book and the first quarter of this one, but by the time this book ended I had changed my mind and I'm curious enough to want to know more about him that I'm excited to read the next book.
POV: dual, both main leads (epilogue told from next book's main lead) Tropes: fated mates, insta-love, mpreg, wolf shifter/human, found family, small town. Spice: medium high (detailed scenes) CW: there are two birthing scenes, one told with more details than the other as both births are at home. A tiny bit of violence from a fight with the bears told, not shown.
Red Hot Fate is an interesting start to a new series and while I liked it I unfortunately didn't love it. It took me a while to get used to the writing style and I had a difficult time connecting to the characters. While the world building was good I wish that there had been more, especially about fated mates. Red and Shayne feel an instant connection when they first meet and it is up to Red to tell Shayne the truth about himself and his pack if they have any hope of being together. Shayne has a lot to learn about Red's world but he will have to get out of his own way first as he is pretty stubborn and adamant that he belongs in the city. They both have a lot of adjusting to do and I wish that they had been more patient with each other. I like the relationship that Shayne has with his best friend Peter even though Peter has been keeping a huge secret from him since he moved to Darlington. I really like Red's brother Atlas and he was my favorite part of this story so I am looking forward to reading his book as this series continues and though this story does end with a cliffhanger it's not about Red and Shayne.
I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.
Independent reviewer for Gay Romance Reviews, I was gifted my copy of this book.
This is book one in the Darlington Pack series, and there is a prequel story, Twice Bitten, that I think I should have read that book first. I'm left with many questions about Peter and Jonathan!
I liked this, but I can't say I loved it.
It's very much the insta-love thing that shifters do, with Shayne feeling very much at home with Red very quickly. Not a bad thing, but a little too fast for me, even for a shifter!
I'm aware theres a bigger picture going on, that I'm not fully getting quite yet, and this book ends on a cliff hanger for that part of the story, so it will continue on into future books.
It's hawt and steamy, I didn't feel it overly emotional though. No real violence, even if the bears are encroaching on the wolves territory.
I liked it, and I think I will, at some point, go back and read about Peter and Jonathan, and also move forward, with Atlas and Rohan's story. I'm just not in any rush.
I'm intrigued as to several things: where this is story going, but more importantly, how the author's skill grows. Because I can only see these books by this author name, so this book is their second book.
I read this one because I was curious about this world after reading the free prequel. The novella was not great but got me interested in this shifter world so I thought why not.
Overall it was good but I’m not sure I’ll go on with the series.
1. It’s quite similar to the prequel (with the city guy that meets a wolf shifter) and even though this one is a proper novel events are still very rushed for no reason. I get the “fated mates” aspect that make things intense but (spoiler) I don’t get why they had a have a baby so quickly! Like, you’d think learning about the shifters world and then asking to be mated/ becoming one would be enough for now but no, they have to go directly for the “mate me/ breed me” on the same night, instead of using condoms for a bit more. Over the top!
2. The typos were annoying. Mostly missing words
3. Seriously writes have to stop including french words when they don’t understand french!! it drives me crazy. It’s not “la bis” it’s “la bise” It was not a typo since the mistake was written twice. It’s very easy to check online and it didn’t bring anything to the story.
4. The s*x starts hot but gets very repetitive. Also the weird pregnancy kink is not for me at all 🤮
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Be aware: there are two birth scenes in this book. They’re not very graphic and it’s quick but we see it from start to finish. There is also quite a bit of rhapsodizing about “the miracle of birth,” and some slight breeding kink. That being said, the pregnancy stuff isn’t overly realistic (ex: Shayne’s fetus recognizes it’s other father at the wolf equivalent of 2-3 months, and Shayne can tell when the fetus recognizes Red; the pregnant fully lactates during pregnancy; etc.), which I found helpful because anything approaching realistic pregnancy and birth isn’t my thing. Also the book has multiple kinds of magical shifters, stark realism is not what I came here for. I did laugh out loud when Shayne was panicked as he went into labor and said “What was I thinking? This was so fucking stupid. Oh my god. Everything is easier for Peter! It always has been!” He was OK, though.
Red is the 35 year old alpha of a werewolf pack, and Shayne is a 29 year old lawyer. Red loves being as close to nature as he can, and Shayne was forever scarred by a spider incident at camp as a kid. Shayne begins to see the charms of a small town life when he meets Red.
It was nice to see Jonathan and Peter again. They’re pretty cute. It’s nice to see a bit of the town as well. The group of werewolves are kind of weird but lovable enough.
It’s a little funny that the prequel was shorter and yet took place over 8+ years and then this first book is longer and most of it takes place over like 2-months.
Overall I had a fun time with the book. Some things were a bit confusing or soapy (as in soap opera logic), but other all I had a good time. I’m very excited for the next book in the series! I liked Atlas even when I did think I would, and his love interest sounds badass!
Intense! Shayne finally made it to Darlington, driving his Red Corvette, to see his friend, Peter. He encountered a black wolf in the middle of the road and he felt no fear, just fascination. Red, felt the weight of the pack as the bears were advancing and the time for his brother, Atlas to take over as Alpha was nearing. The thought that his mate was near and if he claimed him he would not need to wait two more years, but have to turn over Alpha responsibilities earlier. Was Atlas ready? Red, had a lot of crucial conflicts whirling around that needed immediate attention. But he wanted to get to know Shayne better. This story was heavy. There were a lot of important decision that had many options that could impact the pack and Darlington. Will Atlas support Red? Is Shayne open to learning about paranormals? Will the bears advance? Excellent story. Red and Shayne are delightful. The rest of the pack is endearing and I can't wait to read their stories. Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Red Hote Fate is the first book of a new MM omegaverse MPreg series by Dylan Reece.
Shayne is a hot-shot lawyer on his way to visit his best friend Peter, who just moved away to be with his mate into a small, reclusive town. There he meets Red and instantly they have undeniable chemistry. It would all be fantastic. But there is the problem that Red is the pack Alpha, unbeknownst to Shayne. Shayne on the other hand can't imagine giving up his city life to life in a small town...
It was a sweet book. I admit: I am right now on a omegaverse binge. I have read a lot of fantastic omegaverse books and Red Hot Fate was no exception to it. We have two really amazing characters, who really fit together. But they are standing themselves in their way to a HEA. And also we have some outside complications, like the arch around the brother. This part of the story I didn't like that much...
But I am really looking forward to new books in this series!
*I received this book as an ARC. I chose to leave an honest review.*
What I Thought About The Book - I enjoyed this book, I found this to be an interesting new take on shifters and fated mates. I really liked the characters of Red and Shayne. I hope Atlas is the main character in the next book and we get to see him grow and become the pack alpha that they pack needs. This book finished on a cliffhanger which im not a huge fan of and I don't believe the next book is out yet which is annoying. However, I did enjoy the story and the characters. I found the book to be well written, easy to follow, interesting and kept me hooked. Looking forward to reading more of this series and this author as this was a new to me author, so I shall be looking into other books from this author.
Red and Shayne had the kind of chemistry you dare to imagine. Neither interested in having a mate, yet not being able to part from one another.
Shayne went to Darlington to see his friend, Peter, before he gave birth. Almost running into a wolf in the middle of the road--not following the usual instincts, he made eye contact and things shifted from there.
Red felt bound to a pact he made to his father, along with his twin brother. You can't have a mate and run a successful pack. After seeing Shayne, Red became more confused than ever. Determined to ignore fate, but the pull was too strong.
Both were constantly in close proximity, that made it hard to ignore. As they become closer, one really big secret is hanging in the balance. In fact, everyone around Shayne is keeping this secret. Including his best friend. Shayne already has trust issues, but this isn't something you can just reveal to anyone. Placing the pack in danger isn't an option. Red's duties, keep him in a constant stalemate. Will Shayne be understanding or be wiling to walk away from the best thing that has ever happened to him? Love, a mate, and an extended family.

Red is the honorable and likable Darlington Pack Alpha who has just discovered his fated mate, Shayne, a city guy who was visiting a friend. Unfortunately, Shane is human and unaware of shifters and mates. In addition, Red was obligated by oath to hand over the title of Alpha to his twin brother, Atlas, when they turned 37 in two years. It was a binding pact made with their father, with a stipulation that if Red claimed a mate, he had to hand over the power immediately to his brother. But Atlas is not even close to being ready to take on the Alpha job, showing little interest, and Red would not put the Darlington Pack at risk like that, especially while they are trying to solve a problem with the bears encroaching in their territory. Yet Shane is Red’s fated mate and he is strongly affected by that fact. Which obligation will he choose to walk away from? Is there a compromise available? And what would he do if Shane is not willing to accept this life?
I loved this book! I read the first book- Twice Bitten, which is Jonathan and Peter's story. I loved it and couldn't wait to delve back into that world. Good world building. I really liked the dynamic of the story. Well paced and well written. Shayne is Peter's friend who is finally leaving the city to come visit him, but he has no idea shifters exist. Pack alpha Red comes across him on his way there while in wolf form and is immediately drawn to them. When they are introduced later, he knows Shayne is his fated mate. But he is responsible for leading and taking care of his pack and it isn't the time to step down and claim his mate. The chemistry between these two is sizzling. I loved the characters- both the main couple, as well as other pack members. I couldn't put this one down, and I can't wait until certain other characters get their stories. 5 stars.
This was my first book by this author. It was a good story. Red is Alpha of the wolf pack that Shaye’s best friend Peter has become a part of. Shayne doesn’t know about shifters but he is going to get a crash course in it because Red soon realizes that the human is his mate. Fated mates aren’t always immediately successful as Red soon finds out due to family drama and threats from outside sources. Also Shayne can be a bit stubborn. I did enjoy the interplay between the characters. It does end with a cliffhanger but not directly to the two MCs. These two have instant chemistry that they both try to fight without much success. It’s a good book and worth a read if you don’t mind the ending.
This book was a fun shifter A/B/O Mpreg. Dylan Reece is a new author to me but I am loving this series so far. I read the prequel about Peter before this but honestly, you do not need to read it to understand this book. I am loving the Darlington Pack. Red Atlas Shayne, Jonathan Peter, and the rest make these books so much fun. Red meets Shayne on a run and realizes he is his fated mate. But because of an oath, he has to give up leadership to his twin brother because he can't have a mate and hold leadership at the same time. It is a little weird but it works I guess. Honestly one of the best things about this book was Atlas. He was just fascinating and I wanted to know more about him and Rohan. So I am glad that the next book is about him.
Shayne is an omega but doesn’t know about shifters and the lengths that everyone has to go to to keep him from finding out about shifters while he is visiting the Darlington pack is one of the best things about this book. This is labeled as the first book of this series but there is a prequel which you don’t have to read to understand this story but will give you more background. Otherwise you might feel like you came in partway through the series. The name of this book comes from the fact that the alpha leader of this pack is called Red. Although there are so bedroom scenes I didn’t find it red hot partly because there is quite a bit of story which I actually like. A very nice start to what seems to be a fun series.
From the first glance of the black wolf, Shayne is interested and not scared. He usually hates the woods, but once he is out there and visiting his best friend, his fear is replaced by desire for Red, the pack alpha. Sayne is only supposed to be visiting for a few days. Red knows he has responsibilities with his pack and although he knows Shayne is his fated mate, he isn't ready to tell Shayne about shifters or fated mates, so they decide to a one and done. But desires boil over and both give into the heat between.
Dylan Reece has written a great story. I really enjoyed it and am awaiting on reading about Atlas' mate and what happens to them. Great start to this story.
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Fantastic!! This was a new author for me and I absolutely loved the story they had to tell. Red is the pack Alpha, he knows he has to give it up to his brother Atlas in two years. Shayne is a city boy through and though and he's Red's fated mate. There was more than just Red and Shayne's story woven throughout the story and a cliffhanger of sorts left hanging. But overall, this was fantastic! It kept me engaged, it hooked me from the beginning and didn't let me go! It was really well written with complex and multi-layered characters, highly recommend.

This was an absolutely engaging first of the series book! Great world and character building! I enjoyed everyone's quirks and different personalities! Shayne is the city Human Omega visiting his friend in the country when he literally stumbles upon a wolf! Little does he know he stumbles upon that wolf again in the form of our country pack Alpha Red! I adored Red! He was so dedicated to his family and pack. So much so he tries to resist the fated pull toward Shayne. But who can resist? they have some steamy chemistry! I received an ARC and I recommend if you enjoy shifter series as this one has a HEA but also a cliffhanger of the overall story!
Red has been leading his pack since he was sixteen, when his father left him in charge to wander. Shayne misses his best friend Peter, who moved from the city to the middle of nowhere. While visiting Peter, Shayne meets Red, and the chemistry between the two explodes. Red knows that Shayne is his mate, but Shayne is human and coming clean about being a wolf shifter isn't the easiest thing to do.
I enjoyed both Shayne and Red, they had different personalities but that just seemed to make them better together. I loved all the secondary characters. The drama with the neighboring bears is just getting started, so the book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger.
