This review contains spoilers….
This is a quick read and contains characters found in the first three books in the series. It’s not necessary to read those stories prior to this book, but it does help with knowing who is who. The premise behind the series is that military buddies move to the area to live and take care of the family of a fallen brother - this is only mentioned once in the story and just as a statement, whereas in the other stories it was more of the focus. There seemed to be inconsistencies/gaps in the storyline i.e., they have what reads as a quickie in a closet but then a couple of chapters later she tells Mase that she is a virgin prior to them having intercourse??? The story also contains unbelievable scenarios - i.e., Kristen AKA Kay is driving in a blizzard and can’t get back to town due to a fallen tree across the road, when she tries to turn around, her truck gets buried in snow. Mace, who hears the weather report about downed trees and impassable roads, rides his horse thru the blizzard, finds her buried in her truck and quickly digs her out without a shovel. Instead of taking her back to his ranch, which is "a 5–10-minute walk away", he gives her his heavy coat, leaving him exposed, because her "lips are blue tinged" from the cold, and they proceed to ride the horse to her apartment in town. It almost gets worse when they get to town and she invites him into her apartment to get warm, leaving the horse in her garage and end up at a ball but that is a whole other scenario. Considering the story takes place in Vermont, the metric system was used as the unit of measure. This story could benefit from being longer - to better flush out the story and to avoid using unbelievable plot twists to move it forward.
