Features: A mountain man cowboy and younger curvy girl romance. Small-town instalove themes.

Kristen
T'was the night before Christmas, and all through the town,
Everyone was smiling - but I'm wearing a frown.
Why? The bakery's sunk if I can't find a way to cover the rent increase next year.
Business is booming, but that's the problem.
Everyone wants a piece of that small-town Christmas lifestyle.
Now, everything's shooting up in price, and I can't keep up.
Worst of all, that Grinch Mace has ruined my last big order of the year.
Santa, I need a Christmas miracle.

Mace
This isn't exactly what I imagined when I moved to Pink Springs.
Things started out great. My brother and I convinced mom to move too. It meant we could keep an eye on her.
Now, with her health failing, it seems like everything's broken.
I've got a bust-up truck, a ranch that's falling apart faster than I can fix it, and a strained relationship with my bro.
I shouldn't have taken that out on Kristen, especially after she helps me out.
In fact, she might just be the one thing I can finally take care of properly.
But this is going to be my hardest project yet.

Six of us enlisted, but only five of us got to board the plane home. From the second our boots hit the dust bowl, we made a promise forged in blood. If any one of us lost our lives in that godforsaken desert, we'd all pitch in to look after our fallen comrade's family. When Harlow met his end, it's a promise that we stuck to. And in Pink Springs, Vermont, we all found something to keep our hands busy inbetween taking care of Harlow's kid siblings and parents. Laid-back jobs, storefronts and eateries full of small-town charm, and the curvy girls who stole our hearts.

A mountain man instalove romance series, featuring alpha males, older man and younger woman partners, and hunky mountain men who have to have their curvy girl. There's no cheating and no cliffhangers. HEA comes as standard!

This review contains spoilers….
This is a quick read and contains characters found in the first three books in the series. It’s not necessary to read those stories prior to this book, but it does help with knowing who is who. The premise behind the series is that military buddies move to the area to live and take care of the family of a fallen brother - this is only mentioned once in the story and just as a statement, whereas in the other stories it was more of the focus. There seemed to be inconsistencies/gaps in the storyline i.e., they have what reads as a quickie in a closet but then a couple of chapters later she tells Mase that she is a virgin prior to them having intercourse??? The story also contains unbelievable scenarios - i.e., Kristen AKA Kay is driving in a blizzard and can’t get back to town due to a fallen tree across the road, when she tries to turn around, her truck gets buried in snow. Mace, who hears the weather report about downed trees and impassable roads, rides his horse thru the blizzard, finds her buried in her truck and quickly digs her out without a shovel. Instead of taking her back to his ranch, which is "a 5–10-minute walk away", he gives her his heavy coat, leaving him exposed, because her "lips are blue tinged" from the cold, and they proceed to ride the horse to her apartment in town. It almost gets worse when they get to town and she invites him into her apartment to get warm, leaving the horse in her garage and end up at a ball but that is a whole other scenario. Considering the story takes place in Vermont, the metric system was used as the unit of measure. This story could benefit from being longer - to better flush out the story and to avoid using unbelievable plot twists to move it forward.

Unbelievable . . .

Kristen is proud of the bakery business she started on her own in Pink Springs. A Christmas Eve order had to be delivered up in the mountains while a blizzard raged. (Huh? Why??) When she got to her destination, Mace explained his mom sometimes got confused and ordered things. This delivery was a mistake. Kristen angrily drove away – did she realize it was still snowing heavily? A tree had come down in the road and she ended up in a ditch and unable to get out of the vehicle.

Mace was concerned about her – probably knowing it was still blizzard conditions out there? Or the urgent radio warning mentioned how bad it was? So he rode his horse down the road, found her, and rescued her. Rather than taking the blue-lipped woman to his home which was closer, he delivered her to her apartment. Was this the start of a new relationship?

This story line was outrageously difficult to believe. I kept uttering, “Where were their heads??” One bad decision after another does not endear me to the characters. And making a horse jump a fallen tree on an icy/snowy road in a blizzard while two adults are riding double -- and then galloping down that icy road -- is suicidal. I do wonder if she remembered to take the unpurchased cakes to the homeless shelter on the way home as she had planned when she left? (Hopefully the horse had saddlebags…)

In this 4th book in the Veterans of Vermont series we get Mace and Kristen's fast-paced story. Kristen wanted to prove to her wealthy family that she could stand on her own two feet so she moved to Pink Springs and started her bakery. On Christmas Eve she has an order that had to be filled so she drove up the mountain road in the middle of a blizzard only to be told by Mace when she gets there that there's been a mistake. Mace tries explaining to Kristen that his mother just orders stuff and that she doesn't know what she's doing she's mentally incompetent. Kristen is so mad that she just leaves but she doesn't make it very far before she almost hits a tree that's down across the road with no way around it. She tries to backup and slides into the ditch with the snow surrounding her truck so she can't open her doors. Meanwhile Mace is back at the ranch thinking of Kristen especially when he hears the announcement about staying off the roads due to fallen trees. Mace has a feeling that she's in trouble so he goes to find her. I don't want to say anymore and ruin it for anyone else with spoilers. You really need to read this fast-paced insta-connection story to see what happens. I would recommend reading this book and I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

Their story proves that opposites really do attract and these two couldn’t be more different. Kristen is sweet, she is a neat freak, perfectionism and boarding a germaphobe with her cleanliness skills. But her baked goodies are requested and enjoy by many so when she gets an order that needs to be delivered to a ranch no problems . Mace sexy as all get out ranch owner doesn’t mind getting dirty, often his hands are dirty from some of everything …I mean he is running a ranch which basically spells dirt. But fate has other plans than a simple drop off of the sweets and leaving nope she sent a blizzard their way forcing them to learn more about each other throw in the shenanigans fate throws their way and boy do we have a great story but where are they headed, are they so opposites now they have gotten to know each other, and has fate lead them to happiness?

This was such a great story. Kristen is a neat freak and she's on her way up the mountain to deliver a big order of baked goods. The weather is really nasty but she makes it to the ranch. For a party there is no one around. She takes some cupcakes and goes into the barn and sees a dirty, greasy, man half dressed in freezing weather trying to fix his truck. There is a major mix up and Kristen doesn't get to sell any of her pastries. She does however take the spark plugs out for Mace. He ends up rescuing her when her truck slides off the road into the ditch and he and his horse take Kristen home. When Kristen's sister shows up that's when the fun really begins for these two. They find out that they are not that different after all.

Kristen runs the bakery in town and her last delivery takes her up the mountain, in a blizzard, hoping she can get back before it gets bad. Mace, his brother and mother live on a ranch and he is part of the group of veterans who live around town. Their beginning interaction continues when he finds her trapped in a snowy ditch a short while later. The characters are terrific, with great backstories and family issues. The storyline has all the feels and tension you look for, with both businesses barely hanging on and the sparks there but family dragging them away. The chemistry is good and situations are entertaining. Great ending as the future looks a bit brighter.

This was definitely an opposites attract romance. Mace and Kristen couldn’t have been more different with her perfectionism and cleanliness and Mace with his ranch hands and truck grease. They meet when an order is placed at her bakery to be delivered to his ranch. A blizzard helps them along as well when she gets stuck and he gives her a horse ride home. Add in a fake relationship and there’s all kinds of mischief in this quick curvy romance. I really enjoyed the ending of this book. There is growth in the characters and a super steamy scene that matches their personalities.

Mace is a fast read that is a whirlwind ride of emotions, passion and love. Kristen is struggling to make it on her own away from her family. Mace has returned from deployment to take care of his mom and have a new start. When unexpected order takes Kristen up the mountain, she was surprised and disappointed when she arrived. Although Mace had been back for a couple of years, he has spent most of it on the ranch, so when Kristen drove up, he wondered what else he had missed.

Great store when you need a quick break.

Kristen has problems with her bakery. She needs some income asap, otherwise, she will have to close up the shop.
Mace feels that everything around him is going down, his mother’s health, his relationship with his brother, their ranch.
The story has potential, but there are so many strange situations that it is very difficult to believe it.
I liked what Sarah did for both of them. It was an unexpected gesture.

3.5 stars.

Kristen and Mace did not start off well, but a series of situations forced them together and they each realised there was more to the other than they thought. They were surrounded by family and friends, had personal issues to deal with as well as their blossoming feelings. It was a bit bumpy, but they got there in the end.

This is the 4th book in the series. It was okay but not up to par with the other books. The story is not as clear cut and does jot mention the reason for all the vetern buddies being in the small town but rather branches away from that part of the story. It is entertaining.

Kristen and Mace are both struggling. Kirsten’s bakery is going bust, and Mace can’t seem to catch up with the never ending to do list of the ranch. Add to that his strained relationship with his brother and his mum’s poor health, he ends up taking it out on Kristen even though she has helped him out. This is a great read and smoothly continues the story line from the previous 3 books.

I enjoyed reading about neat-freak Kristen and the grease covered rancher Mason, in this cute short story.
To follow them through their eye-rolling encounters, made me smile a lot. And as it turns out, opposites do attract.

The author has given us a quick read that pulls us into the lives of Mace and Kristen and does not let go. They may be total opposites but they have a chemistry that cannot be denied.
