Actually, what I listened to was the audobook of a podcast "Coffee Break German Advanced" by Coffee Break Languages, available on audible.com (among other places), but since goodreads no longer allows an easy possibility to add missing books and instead adding a book has become a major headache, I will just put my review here. By the way, if you had any success in submitting requests about missing books recently, please share your experienc--any helpful tidbits are welcome.

So, back to Coffee Break German Advanced -- I'm usually not a big fan of language teaching podcast series. Often they lack system, the quality is uneven, they jump all over the place stuffing your head with many chunks of easily absorbed and quickly forgotten knowledge. But Coffee Break series are outstandingly good. The format of Coffee Break German Advanced works very well : the first part explains a grammar topic illustrating it with examples (it's actually a dialogue between a British student and a native German speaking teacher, albeit originally from Switzerland), and the second part is usually a conversation which builds upon the newly learned material. The conversations are quite entertaining. The quality of teaching is excellent.

Marc, who plays the role of the British learner of German, is a true polyglot and even a bit too good to be true: supposedly, we are listening to him being taught by the native teacher, but when asked to employ this newly obtained knowledge, he makes so few mistakes, it's hard to believe the material is really new to him. Perhaps some of the listeners might even find Marc's perfection a bit discouraging, compared to their own capabilities.;) On the other hand, he can definitely serve as an inspiration. There is always a dilemma between using the genuinely new students of the language who would annoy the listeners with their many mistakes and having a bit too good to be true student.;)

I also listened to a bit of Coffee Break Languages basic German--it has a slightly different format, but is equally excellent and effective. Besides, they have other languages: Italian, French, Swedish, Chinese and they've recently announced Gaelic and Portuguese. I've become their fan now, and highly recommend them to anybody who is interested in foreign languages.

These books that offer various exercises, constructed in different ways and aimed at making us remember the words of the foreign language and its grammatical construction, are designed for those who already know the language and want to improve or brush up on it, but are not suitable for those who want to learn it from scratch.

I received from the Publisher a complimentary digital advanced review copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.

An extremely helpful, well presented and informative guide to supplement studying of German.

The various activities are broken up into lessons which take between 5 - 15 minutes - ideal for during lunch breaks or anytime you have a spare moment. Easy to follow, very useful and presented in a fun and informative way. Highly recommended.

Thanks to John Murray Press, Teach Yourself and NetGalley for the ARC.

I was lucky enough to get this book from Netgalley recently and it was a really helpful tool sometimes when it comes to practicing and learning German.

I really appreciated how diverse and different each practice was and it really did push me. I'd recommend it with something like Duolingo, as I feel the app doesn't really push you enough to really create sentences/paragraphs where this one you can really build your vocabulary and begin to write in a language, and use it in a practical way. I'd definitely use these practice ideas with other languages as well.

I like the time adaptability the book has and how it can fit in anytime and I really liked flicking through and finding an activity perfect for what I am learning (and you can probably adapt them as well and change them up for an area you want to study deeper into).

A really good book if you want to learn more german, I'd love to try more languages with these practice ideas!

(I recieved an ARC from Netgalley for honest review).

English
