Great cliffhanger and wild plot. The romance part was very cringy but it offered many opportunities for the cat’s sarcasm. Book gives similar vibes to an Ice Age movie.

The Nine Lives Magic series is one I found easy to love from the beginning. I loved the setting, the magical world, the mysteries, the main character, her love interest, and even her cranky cat familiar. I love listening to the series because Amanda Ronconi has made it even better with her voicing and connection with the tone of the books.

Purrfect Potions is fourth in the Nine Lives Magic series that are strongly connected so don’t read as well standalone. This particular one really won’t since it is left in an interesting lead in place for the next book.

Picking up not long after the events of the previous book, Cora and Selene are on the hunt for the missing Aunt Lavender with little luck. A famous treasure hunter, Tabitha Blake, comes to town determined to get in on the hunt. Meanwhile, Cora’s love life hits a snag and doesn’t look good because of Cliff’s mom.

Purrfect Potions left me with mixed feelings for the first time in the series. This book felt different from the past series entries and not just because it doesn’t have a new local mystery for Cora to be involved in which was disappointing. I liked that they were making progress on their search and the Tabitha character was interesting and left me as suspicious as the others of what she was up to. I was just as taken with the setting and the narration.
But, there were issues for me.
I’m not a fan of exploding a relationship that has felt settled and good especially the way it happened here. Clint’s mom is horrid. I suspect this will be a rough patch and there is more to that story so I was more irritated than disappointed since I love Clint for her. But, what really got me muttering was Selene. I’ve been fine with her snotty attitude toward Cora and everything else up until now and at times it has been funny. This time, she dialed up the attitude right into mean territory. What exactly does Cora have to do further to earn a little respect from the demanding furball?

So, I still love the series and I really want to get to the finish line with all the exciting bits surrounding Aunt Lavender’s disappearance and why she disappeared. This was a transition book, for sure, so leaves series fans needing the next book and that includes me. This is a series I’d recommend to readers/listeners who enjoy paranormal cozy mysteries.

I rec’d an audio of the book from Tantor Audio to listen to in exchange for an honest review.

I still enjoy the snarky and often annoying cat familiar Selene.
And I like the ongoing missing Aunt Lavender storyline.

My favourite Danielle Garrett series.
Will read again whenever I need a bit of Selene snark in my life! Or even better listen to it read by Amanda Ronconi.

Purr-fect Potions was a PURFECT read! This is Book 4 in the Nine Lives Magic Mystery.
I love Cora and her snarky familiar Selene.

They are still looking for the kidnapped Aunt Lavender and things are heating up.

Tabitha Blake is in town helping, and Selene is dealing with issues with her boyfriend Clint.

This was such a fantastic read; I could hardly put it down. I absolutely love this well written series.

I can't wait for the next book!!!!

NOT A BOOK!!!

I really hate when writers pass a serial off as a book. This is just an installment of a book ending in a cliff hanger with no resolution whether good or bad. Will not be reading anything by this author!!!

Urghhhh I hate when they blow up a relationship for no reason. Selene …. Sigh, still don’t like that character, she’s not snarky, she’s just mean. They are still on the quest to find aunt lavender and this time, famed adventurer Tabitha is helping them

Made me Laugh
I love these magical mysteries. They are endearing and funny. A good way to refresh your reading if you fall into a slump or if you just need something quick and quirky. Always fun and I recommend if you need something less tense.

I love this series! Cora and her cat familiar, Selene, are still searching for Aunt Lavender and finding themselves in more trouble along the way. These two have a knack for solving all kinds of mysteries except what happened to Lavender.

Not as good

This one is not as good as the rest of the series. Also they don’t solve the mystery so idk. It’s a shame cuz I really loved the previous books in this series!

In Purr-fect Potions, the book picks up where the prior one left off, with Selene and Cora continuing on their journey to find Lavender after her abduction. They have a firm belief that her abduction has ties to The Golden Lotus (and possible) Fountain of Youth, and have teamed up with legendary magical explorer influencer, Tabitha Hardwicke. The two of them teamed up with Tabitha at times, follow numerous leads before they face a betrayal that they were not expecting, leaving us readers with a cliffhanger.

I wanted to rate this book higher. Especially considering that I have rated all of the books to this point, as a solid 3 stars. We readers were finding out new information about Lavender’s disappearance, tying up some loose ends in regard to Salvatore Greco, discovering a new piece of the puzzle behind The Golden Lotus, and ended up with an interesting twist at the end.

But then there were Cora and Clint. Selene said it best when she mentioned that Cora should consider having her head “shrunk”, because she needs to. She deflects her pain and her insecurities onto Clint and their relationship, and essentially breaks up with him because she’s too insecure in his feelings for her, and possibly relocating to Winterspell. It’s beyond frustrating because while these two didn’t seem to have immense chemistry, (I think this is more because we don’t get many scenes with them in general) I did think they were a cute couple for this little series. I found the banter between Selene and Clint to be equal to Selene and Cora at times, and he was always willing to help with working out case theories.

It just felt like this version of Cora we have with searching for Lavender, disappears when it comes to Clint. She is so focused on her past with Roger including the demise of her marriage, that she isn’t even trying to give Clint a chance, or even bring him in further to help. She’s always holding Clint at a distance, which doesn’t make sense when she’s always needing help.

This author has me hooked. Cora and Selene, witch and familiar, are a match NOT made in heaven. This adventure took them to another dead end trying to find her aunt. What's going to happen with Clint and Cora? Can't wait to find out.

Woah!!! I’m on the edge of my seat! Part of the mystery was solved but the much larger mystery of where is Aunt Lavender is still unsolved and it gets scarier the deeper we get. The drama!!! I’m totally invested. On to the next book!

Story line getting better with each book. Absolutely love Selene. Cora is a bit annoying re Clint. If she really loves him she would make it work.
Didn’t notice any continuity errors this time.
Cliff hanger ending.
Who can they trust?

These books have been fun and I was invested in the overall mystery of Lavender, but the lack of world building has gone from frustrating to unforgivable. I know more about what Cora wears and what Selene eats than I do about the magical systems. I love the idea of this magical community, I love that it is a little more like the real world than other books about magical communities I have read, but it is not very fleshed out in my mind and I need more if I am going to stay engaged in the hunt for Aunt Lavender.

I might read the next one. I might not. I don't really care either way and that's kind of a sad way for a series I started out enjoying to fizzle out.

Picking up a short time after the previous Nine Lives Magic book (but before the most recent cross-over novella, Sugar Cookies and Sirens), Purr-fect Potions finds Cora and cat familiar Selene continuing their hunt for the missing Aunt Lavender. They garner the help of famous treasure hunter, Tabitha Blake, using her knowledge and connections to try and discover the truth.

Purr-fect Potions moves forward the series storylines surrounding missing Aunt Lavender and Cora’s love life, although nothing is concluded by the end of the tale. Overall, I was disappointed with the book. The thing that makes this series work is that each book, while building upon the previous, has a standalone mystery/component to it, which is noticeably lacking in Purr-fect Potions. The book reads more like a placeholder, without a satisfying conclusion. Additionally, I really don’t like Selene’s character. While I had been warming to her, this time around she goes too far and is spiteful and mean to over-generous and kind-hearted Cora.

Narration: Ms. Ronconi continues to provide the voice of Cora and her friends. Shared in the first person POV of Cora, Ms. Ronconi provides an upbeat voice for Cora, matching emotion fitting to the story. Ms. Ronconi alters each character’s voice based on age, gender, background, and species. And Selene’s voice is still awesome- a perfect fit for the annoying cat.

In the end, the Nine Lives Magic series continues to be one I look forward to listening to, despite the flaws of the current title.

My ratings:
Story: C
Narration: B+

so find her already

6books to find Aunt Lavender is getting tedious. Nasty sarcastic cat who doesn’t care how much of her private business he’s telling people. Or, running off customers in her shop … tiresome- he’s verbally abusive and that gets old. That being said, it’s a nicely written story, and I would recommend it.

The title is misleading as there are no potions in this books and hardly any magic. In fact, there’s barely any magic in the series to date. I do like that the mysteries don’t heavily involve the bumbling sheriff. The romance is awkward and just weird. I feel like Clint has always been a pushover and he’s nice but he’s bending over backwards for Cora and she just can’t allow herself to have anything good because of her failed marriage - the end of which was odd in itself. While I like Selene, she has gotten beyond mean in this book and it’s really not as funny as it could be. She obviously cares more than she lets on but going after Cora on her pain points is just cruel. It’s obnoxious that the mystery of Lavender hasn’t been solved at this point. They’ve never actually said anything nice about her or her personality. They’ve made her out to be hair-brained, self-centered, and completely oblivious to everyone else’s emotions and needs. It would have been a better basis to make
Lavender a beloved family member that was involved with and close to her family so there would be more meaning to searching for her, rather than feeling like it’s more of a familial obligation. Tabitha’s character was interesting but she was suspicious immediately, especially when she kept asking about where the book was being kept. It was weird that they would leave her where she was without telling anyone.

This book opens with a very uncomfortable dinner with Clint and his mother. She is not very welcoming, and the things Cora accidently overhears are even worse.

While Clint makes light of the dinner, he doesn't know she's overheard his mother's comments later in the drawing room. In spite of the kiss good night, it was still and awkward end to the evening.

Selene meanwhile has found someone who could possibly help with their quest to find Aunt Lavender. Tabitha is another adventurer, but she also does podcasts of those adventures. They tell her what they can but they cannot divulge what they've found is Lavender's big secret.

Tabitha joins them in their quest and they find a few new clues. They are searching for who could have taken the missing pages and then Tabitha goes silent. They don't even know if she's still in town.

Then Cora's mom once again uses her divination magic to try to contact Lavender.

When Tabitha shows up again, they make more progress on the pages, but still no Lavender.

A unique creature adds assistance, plenty of twists and an OMG ending!

Still looking for Aunt Lavender. Cora’s mother has done several location spells and believes Lavender was kidnapped for the book and the Golden Lotus, but is still alive.
Cora and Selene enlist the aid of Tabitha, a well known and respected adventurer to help in locating Lavender, but her help is sporadic.
Cora and Selene find the missing pages using the Golden Lotus. One of the students allowed to use the books was dating a young woman who stole the code for the hidden book chamber. She stole the pages for her boy friend to sell and they could life happily ever after in the lap of luxury.
Meanwhile Tabitha reappears with a tracking pixie. The three follow the pixie to a cave and Cora tries to climb up the steep slope to discover what is in the cave. Before she could complete the climb or fall to her death, Tabitha admits she lead them on a goose chase. She was paid by someone to keep them occupied and out of the way. Before she could reveal who the person was, she turned to stone.
Bombshell ending!

This is book four of the Nine Lives Magic series and this book, our MC Cora, and her slightly wet blanket, Selene (who is now only slightly more annoying than funny) are still looking for Aunt Lavender and that hunt is the main focus of this book. Selene reached out to a famous adventurer Tabitha Blake, to get her assistance in tracking down Lavender, but she's all kinds of suss, right from the start. I was a bit surprised with how this book ended.

The romance with Clint is floundering as Cora realizes his mother dislikes her and his choices are marry and have kids or lose the inheritance and move back to Chicago. Lots of angst, since they love each other, but don't know how to make it work. This is actually my least favorite storyline so far.

Overall, still entertained and I will continue to recommend this series as a light, cozy read with a good mystery.

Another great book in this series. Powered through this one in just over 2 hours! This one did end in a bit of a cliffhanger - which I hate. However, the next book is readily available so I will overlook it this one time!

This is the fourth book in the Nine Lives Magic paranormal mystery series by Danielle Garrett.
The search for Aunt Lavender continues with the assistance of Tabitha Blake, well known treasure hunter.

I enjoyed the story but felt Selene entered “mean” territory. Selene needs to dial it back.
Also, Clint and Cora hit a rough patch. I am not a fan of relatives trying to control others and Clint’s mother has been trying to control the lives of her sons since we met her. She is a horrible person and I’d rather skip the parts where she interacts with Clint.

The book ends on a cliff hanger. I listened to this book on Hoopla from my library. I own an e-book copy of this book.

Amanda Ronconi does a wonderful job as the narrator. Looking forward to the next story in the series.
