And he’s forcing me to live with him. Now I'm stuck in his haunting apartment in a world I don't belong.
The one person that I thought I could rely on was Matt. But he says my new family is a disease. Does that make me sick too? Is that why Matt wants to keep me his dirty little secret?

The setting: Empire High School, New York City.
The Hero(s): Matt - One of the untouchables, he is dating the heroine, Brooklyn Sanders, but keeping it secret. He says it is because Isabella is blackmailing him with something that will hurt his best friend James, who is already depressed and an alcoholic. Felix - Brooklyns friend who she is also attracted to. Felix’s family is not from old money like the untouchables at Empire High, but they are wealthy. Felix is in gym class with Brooklyn and they run together. He is the first guy that liked her for who she is and wasn’t afraid to show it. Miller - Brooklyns bodyguard that Mr. Pruitt has watching her 24/7.
The heroine: Brooklyn Sanders (Pruitt) – Through the first book, Empire High Untouchables, Brooklyn kept wondering who her father was and now she finds out it is Mr. Pruitt who is also Isabelle’s father. Isabelle is the queen B at school and has bullied Brooklyn since she moved in with her Uncle and started at Empire High.
The Love Story: This was crazy and I don’t want to give away any spoilers but to say that Brooklyn is very confused and she is in pain. She doesn’t seem to know what she feels and for whom.
I know clean romances are generally not dark romances but this one definitely was. There was kissing and cuddling and a few hot moments, but nothing that I would call steamy. Though I would consider this a dark romance because there was bullying, there were threats and Brooklyn was afraid during parts of this book. I can’t say much else without giving things away but the story certainly held my interest. There were some strange things that were never explained so I can’t wait to find out what is behind those doors in the next book. Also the ending was probably even more spectacular than the ending of Empire High Untouchables.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.
My mom fell in love with a monster. I know he’s dangerous. And I know my mom never wanted him in my life. I don’t want him in mine either. But I’m being forced to live with him.
I’m stuck in his haunting apartment in a world where I don’t belong. A world full of beautiful people with ugly souls. A world filled with secrets.
And the one person that I thought I could rely on was Matt. But he says my new family is a disease. Does that make me toxic too? Is that why Matt wants to keep me his dirty little secret?
I should have known that all the secrets would come crashing down soon. I just never expected more to break than Matthew freaking Caldwell breaking my heart.
If you have NOT read and Ivy Smoak book you are missing out. If you have read the Hunted Series or any other series and love James Hunter, Mason and Matthew Caldwell. Welcome to Empire High Untouchables. Get to know some of your favorite characters and least favorite characters (Isabella) in High School. Understand why some are the way they are now because of who they were in the past. Discover a new Character who we’ve never heard of and if you’ve read several of Ivy’s books you might even try and think if she’s been mentioned in one of them. This book will not disappoint and will likely wishing to fast forward to October 15th for book number two’s release.
In Untouchable, the first book of the Empire High series, we met Brooklyn Sanders. We were left on a major cliffhanger as, after losing her mother and uncle in a short span of time, she was yet again blindsided. At Uncle Jim’s funeral she came face-to-face with her birth father, whom she knew nothing about. To make matters worse, her arch nemesis, Isabelle, is her new step-sister. If the bullying wasn’t bad before, it’s taken on a whole new level in Elite.
The series is a chock full of great characters who all seem to have secrets. That said, I enjoyed the growth and development of several of them, most notably Felix and Mr. Pruitt. However, the pace remains slower and the plot is still predictable. Likewise, Brooklyn is still vacillating between her two love interests, and has even added another to the mix. I’m anxiously awaiting some forward momentum with the storyline and major growth for Brooklyn in the next installment.

📣 Elite is book two in the Empire High series and ends on a cliffhanger.
I am so frustrated right now. In the first book, I could give Brooklyn a little leeway for being new, unused to the elite kids around her, and grieving. In this book, no more. I'm sick of Brooklyn being a victim, always helpless and never able to stand up for herself. She's always afraid and can't ever anticipate what Isabelle and her minions will do. When are you going to start fighting back?!
I also hate Matt. He's trash, always ignoring her in public and letting her be hurt without doing anything. He doesn't really love her, he's just possessive and doesn't want anyone else to have her. Brooklyn needs to grow up and see how horrible he is. Plus, she has at least two other candidates who would be much better for her. I personally vote for Miller, he's strong and capable and could help her get out of this toxic place.
Yes I'm going to read the third book, because I'm still holding out some hope that Brooklyn will finally get back at Isabelle. If not, I'm writing this series off.
This was a frustrating read. But I can't hate on it even a little. Because it's kind of the first book in over a week that held my focus.
Why so frustrating? OMG Brooklyn. This girl was all over the place. I kind of wanted to shake her. Until I realized, she's like a teenager. Dealing with a whole lot. But I definitely hope she straightens out her mind by the next book because wow. It's not even just the "more than a triangle" love situation. It's how she is with her friends, and how naive she sometimes is. But once again- teenager in a crazy situation.
I'm not sure yet what to think of her new family, or really anyone. And I didn't read Ivy's other series before starting this. But that end? I mean, it's not even a little cliffhanger. It was like being thrown off the most unexpected cliff when you didn't even realize you were at 98% in the book and had to check! Wild.
I really don’t know what to say except OMG! Ivy clearly blew this one out of the ballpark. I’ve been waiting for this second book for months and it seriously didn’t disappoint at all. It was full of emotions, angst, and a Hot New Guy!! Yay!!
Here are my thoughts: Brooklyn: she’s clearly hurting and confused, but I am still vouching for her and Matt to have their HEA!! Perhaps in Book 3?!? Please, Ivy, make this happen.
Matt: He loves Brooklyn so much but he’s still being manipulated by vicious Isabella! I can’t with the love story these two have, but at the same time they can’t.
Isabella: horrid specimen of a human being. I can’t with her nastiness!! And she married James in The Hunted series! Why did she get James? She’s so evil and manipulative. I hate her soo much for making Brooklyn so sad and miserable. She’s just horrible
New Guy: superb secret which I just cannot tell you about. It’s so awesome though. You have to read this to understand what I’m talking about.
The ending: I just can’t with the ending. OMG can January 14th come sooner rather than later, please!!
This was such a great sending book in the series! Ivy did such an amazing job in writing this second book.
I was given an ARC for my honest opinion by Ivy Smoak. Thank you so much for showing me what a great writer and author you truly are!! The way you intertwine your characters in other series clearly shows your intellect and storytelling capabilities.
So I was lucky enough to get a early copy! And let me tell you I loved this book! Brooklyn faces so many difficult decisions. She not only finds herself in a place where she may never fit in but under the roof with a person Who hates her. When reading Empire high Untouchables I was so team Matt and by the end of Empire High Elite I stand by my decision. I love Matt. Yes he makes mistakes but In the end I know he loves Brooklyn but then there is Team new guy 😉 and I love New guy but again I absolutely love Matt. Ivy you made my laugh so hard and cry in the same chapter. You are so talented and I loved ever minute of this book but like I say in every review I am not surprised. 5 stars all the way! I can't wait for everyone to read this!
I was very lucky to receive an early copy. Since I read book one in Empire High series, I was imagining how the plot will go in the following books. I had as many theories as you can think but Ivy Smoak came and exceeded all my expectations. Very Very Well Done. Keeps me forming new plans and events in my mind for the next book to come. The book is very well written, whenever I try to put it down to get some work done I couldn't. A chapter leads me to the next non-stop. The end of each chapter makes me more eager to know what happens next. In the little time, I don't read, I keep thinking and plotting what will happen in my mind. Very captivating and heart touching. Full of emotions and the fun parts are very hilarious, making me forget the huge age gap between me and the main characters. The story follows the first book, Brooklyn confusion continues in this book accompanied by a heavier heart full of grief and fear of what to come. Even the existence of boys in her life that all seem to love her causes more confusion, each one of them has a secret and a side she doesn't know. The new life and supposedly new family don't make her settle or relieved, but they increase her confusion and struggles. Even Matt - who was supposed to be the one for her - didn't fully prove himself to be despite his grand gesture. The new guy who is supposed to protect her, she even doesn't know his first name or what he is protecting her from. Other characters play their parts to increase her mind spinning hardly. The main evil character continues more and more evil, seems no one can stop her or protect Brooklyn who can't face her strongly. The ending is a typical Ivy Smoak killer cliffhanger, made my breathing stops and my heart broken. Looking forward to see how will she solve this. Many open lines and questionable events, all needs closure and clarifications. Now I don't know how am I going to wait for the next and last book of the series. I Really need it as fast as possible. I hope Brooklyn finds her happiness, I hope Matt proves himself to be her true love, I hope secrets revealed, I hope evil ends (even I know not this time) and I hope I can kill all cliffhangers in all books. My first review was in August when the cover was released and it was: I CAN'T WAIT TO GET THIS BOOK. I am waiting without any patience for this book, I read the first one of this series and it was very captivating. Pray for October to come.
5 FREAKING STARS! Ivy Smoak did not disappoint us with this sequel to Empire High Untouchables. She never disappoints, really. I laughed, I cried, and I swooned! I care about these characters like they are real people in my life (well, besides Isabella, we don’t like her). I loved the mix of romance with suspense. I couldn’t put it down! Our most burning questions are answered, and she’ll leave you with more by “the end.” I’m already anxiously waiting for book 3! Will Brooklyn finally get her happy ending?! And even more, who will she find it with?!
Ooh my gosh -- where do I even start!?!?!? I read this book so fast that I feel like I need to go back and read it again. I am not usually a big fan of high school stories because the heroine is typically super immature or whiny. Poor Brooklyn is in such a hard place in life and can not make a decent decision to save her life (literally?). The love triangle is more like a love quadrilateral and EVEN I DON'T KNOW WHO I WOULD PICK! The writing is so well done and each scene so well thought out that the book really makes you questions what you would do in her shoes. I can't say that I would have done much different from Brooklyn at her age. The twists, turns, and secrets keep you turning the page until there are no more pages. I need the next installment RIGHT NOW!! Great job Ivy and Ryan!!
Character thoughts: Drunk Matt is THE BEST! Funny Rob makes some great appearances. Seeing sad James hurts my heart. Isabella is THE WORST! Felix is just swoon! New Guy is pretty awesome as well - leaving out name to hide spoiler. Mason has some really great moments!
My Thoughts: The Queen of YA delivers again! Ivy Smoak’s latest in the Empires High series hits all the right notes with its charm, humor, angst, romance, and suspense. We meet again Brooklyn, Matthew, Felix, Isabella, and add a newb to increase the flame with Miller. Brooklyn might be living the dream of getting rich in a blink of an eye but her real life, however, lacks the glitter and glam. For many months she has been suffering the loss of her loved ones and while she knows who her dad is and "loves" the idea of love, yet she needs to figure out who she really wants to be with (although she has a few prospects).
In spite of the shortcomings between her and Matt and all the secrets around them, she is happy when she is with him until she thinks she finally knows what the secret is.
The untouchables are back and they are royalty... handsome/beautiful, rich, smart (some) and some are even very good people.
Back to Matt, now that everyone knows the secret he’s determined to win her and wants her to be her forever.
Ivy infuses this unique story with delicious tension, that sweet teen's love, and as always, so much heart and warmth. It’s a unique mix of reliability, angst, love, and suspense that make me come back book after book.
Elite is a swoon-worthy, feel-good, stay-up-to-read that is perfect for anyone and everyone.
Fantastic installment of the 2nd part of the Empire High saga!
There is an old saying - 'just one more chapter.' This book is precisely that - you can't put it away until you finish. What I planned to be a goodnight 20 minute read turned into a whole night of reading.
Empire High Elite is part two of the Empire High saga. It continues where book one left off - with Brooklyn moving (yet again) to the home of another, previously unknown, relative (I won't say more so as not to spoil book one). She continues to struggle with Empire High school students and becomes entangled in a few (!) romantic relationships. She is more and more ostracized by her new family and gets involved in intrigues that ultimately lead to a heartbreaking cliffhanger. Even though it is a classic example of romantic drama, there are many funny dialogues and unbelievable situations. That's why it's so addictive. Ivy delivered yet again. Like most of her previous work, this series (and this book in particular) is unique and unexpected. That's why I love her work - no banalities, no content flab, no same-olds. I can't wait for the third book to come and for the story to develop. The only thing I know for sure is to expect the unexpected.
The teenage MC is all over the place! Trying to fill a hole in her heart with boys, yet somehow retaining her virginity, she flip-flops back and forth between male love interests, finally settling on one (at least I think she did), but who knows because tomorrow is a new day.
Izabella (the antagonist) is a psychopath and I hope she "disappears."
I’ve been waiting impatiently since I devoured Empire High Untouchables the day it was released in July for it to be October so I’d finally get book two of Empire High! So naturally I devoured this in one sitting once I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC. The three and a half words I’d use to describe it (a little inside joke from Ivy’s Ivy Smoaksters Facebook group) are: #TeamNewGuy. I only put my Kindle down to wipe my face from crying once I started this. But don’t let that deter you because if you’re a longtime Ivy fan like I am, you know that she’ll always deliver a happy ending, which is what I’m counting on with the cliffhanger she left us with in EHE!
All I can say is WOW! Empire High Elite is filled with so much drama. Brooklyn has decisions to make. Does she choose Matt, Felix, or Miller? How will she handle living with the Pruitts? What is the mystery behind Mr. Pruitt? Let’s not forget Isabella....bitchier and more devious than ever. The plot twist is totally unexpected. A real cliffhanger.
I was able to receive an ARC of this book and oh my word was it everything I expected, plus some! This book was compelling, breathtakingly addictive and I could not put it down. Ivy Smoak created an astounding story line with amazing characters. I’ve read a lot of books in this genre and this tops them all. All of Ivy’s books are top notch and this one sure did not disappoint. A must read.
How does Ivy do it? She can make us questions everyone and everything. She can make us hate a character and then feel for them a few chapters later!
This book takes you on a scary rollercoaster. So many twists and turns. So many things seem ridiculous but the more you read, the more it makes sense!
Such a great read. I still love seeing my favorite characters in their youth. If you haven’t read the Hunted Series and beyond then you should do that right away.
Hate the main character. She is so wishy washy and makes the DUMBEST decisions. Not rooting for any of the guys as they all are horrible choices. I skipped a ton of the book. Was hoping for better as I liked the first book.
If you thought that in the first book of this series that Brooklyn had been through more than anyone should have to bear. She now knows who her father is but the news isn’t a pleasant surprise as not only does she need to deal with him but she now finds herself living in his home with the one person she would like to avoid Isabella.
Isabella has not only done everything she can to make Brooklyn’s life as difficult as possible, but she is also standing between her and Matt. Conflicted over her feelings for Matt brings her not only closer to Felix but a new arrival as well.
Filled with characters you will either love or hate, surprises you don’t see coming and so much angst all lead up to a cliffhanger that leaves us wondering what the future holds.
I received an ARC of this book in return for an honest review. OMG, where do I start?? This book certainly lived up to everything that I expected it to be. It was full of drama, hate, bullying, heartbreak, confused hearts, angst and had my heart pumping. The storyline drew me in from the start and all the characters were amazing, whether they were good or bad. Poor Brooklyn still trying to get over the death of her Uncle, she didn’t know where to turn or who to trust. Matt was still having trouble with his relationship with Brooklyn by still messing up. Then there’s Felix and the new guy! I am on Team New Guy, but then I’m on Team Matt! I’m confused by who I like more so I can see why Brooklyn is! But don’t get me started on Isabella!!! 😡 Yet again Ivy had written another incredible book and I really need to last in the series now. This was a really great read that had me turning the pages and I was like, just read one more chapter and then, boom, I finished it! This is a must read, BUT you have to have read Empire High Untouchables first.
OMG OMG WTAH 😱 I would give 10 stars if I could. I don’t know where Ivy Smoak gets her ideas from but holy hell this book is even better than Empire High Untouchables and that’s saying something as I thought that was brilliant. Honestly if I didn’t know what happens to Isabella in the other books later on I would want to crawl in to this book and strangle her with my bare hands... what an utter psycho. I hope book 3 will kinda jump forward past Light to my Darkness as I want Matt & Brooklyn to have their HEA. I do love Miller and Felix and both would be good for her but we all know what Matt is like in The Hunted etc and I just feel he needs Brooklyn back in his life to be happy and complete... don’t let me down Ivy bring them together please 🙏🙏🙏🙏
4.5 Stars I was incredibly eager to read Empire High Elite after the conclusion to Empire High Untouchables. Brooklyn is dealing with grief and loss, all whilst discovering the identity of her father, and moving into the lion’s lair. This title is well written, and intriguing with a story line that is full of twists, turns and secrets. This title revisits characters from the previous title and introduces us to a new hero as well. I was captivated from the very first chapter and cannot wait to see what’s in store for Brooklyn in the next addition to the series. This title leave you with more questions than answers, and reveals just how devious and evil Isabel is and the lengths she will go to, to get what she wants.
It's really hard to write a review without giving away the story! First, this book is not a stand alone. You have to read Empire High Untouchables first. Empire High Elite picks up where Untouchables ends and the story of Brooklyn's new life starts. Everything in her life is different now and i couldn't imagine having to go through what she is going through, especially at 16 where she doesn't get a say in any of it. She struggles to maintain her identity while trying to adjust to her new normal. Although she is still leary, she is starting to come to terms with her new life and then the story takes a twist at the end leaving the readers with a cliffhanger. If I didn't get an advanced copy of this book, I'd probably wait until all the books were released to read them so I wouldn't have to wait to find out what happens next! I definitely plan to reread the series once they are all released. If you're like me, far from high school age, and think you wouldn't enjoy a story about high school kids, I think you should reconsider. It's a great story with interesting plot twists and will leave you wanting more.
