Skeleton traces a young woman’s journey through recovery from a shocking event in her childhood. When she is twelve years old, a manipulative playmate bullies her into venturing onto the too-soft river ice. Unbeknownst to the girls, they are followed, and witness an accidental drowning. Now in her twenties, our protagonist has never revealed the events of that day, and her life has been arrested by the trauma. She is only able to begin healing by confronting her feelings and telling the truth.
A fascinating psychological thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I literally couldn't put this book down! Hope I see more from this author soon.
Skeleton is a beautifully written story of one woman’s healing process after childhood trauma. At only 12, she was peer pressured by her friend, and manipulative bully to slide across the soft river ice as a shortcut. When they realize they have been followed, it’s too late to do anything to help and they witness a drowning. Many years later, she’s working through the trauma that has impacted her life for as long as she can remember. I loved the writing style, it seemed effortless the way the author weaved the past and present; and how at times it felt like many genres from thriller to women’s fiction. I couldn’t put this book down, I needed to know how it would tie up. The pace was great, the character development was strong, and the story remained engaging throughout the entire book.
I enjoyed this story a lot and finished it in 3 sittings. The pacing was good and kept me interested from start to finish. I loved the details that the author provided on the secondary characters (for example, her coworkers, the guys she met at the lake, her childhood girlfriend's mother). The storytelling unfolds in a way that keeps the reader guessing: first as to what the mystery is, and then as to how, or if, she will resolve it. I would definitely read another story by this author.
