**SOME SPOILERS**
I absolutely loved this book but, I was very displeased with the direction the author chose to go in with Shayla and Tristen. This book was filled with sooooooo much drama. Shayla and Tristen are toxic AF and, honestly, they shouldn’t be together. But, the heart wants what the heart wants and, surprisingly so, they actually work as a couple. After she accidentally reveals a secret she’s been holding on to, Shayla and Tristen break up again for the 100th time. Instead of having an adult conversation like Shayla begs him to, Tristen does what he always do when they break-up. He heads to Bone’s crib to lay up with a gang of women but, this time around, he gets caught up with someone that threatens his future with Shay. When her constant pleas continue to fall on deaf ears, Shayla finally says, “eff it” and moves on with life without Tristen. Their relationship was a hot dysfunctional mess. The constant back and forth and purposely trying to hurt each other while, still staking claim to one another had me wanting to slap some common sense into them. This behavior goes on for the entirety of the book. Shayla and Tristen are broken up from beginning to end. There are 22 chapters in this book and, they don’t get back together until the very end of the last chapter. This is my issue with this book. We got to see King whilin’ out and showin’ his azz but, we also got to see his growth. We got to see him and Bambi get married. We got to see her give birth to the first set of twins. We got to see King change and become a mature family man and fall in love with the life he and Bambi were building. We don’t get that with Shayla and Tristen. Since book two, we’ve only gotten immature f*ck boy behavior from Tristin. We don’t get to see him and Shayla get married. We don’t get to see when they find out she’s pregnant with their second child. We don’t get to see them happy and thriving. We are only privy to their toxicity. We don’t get to see any growth from Shayla and Tristen whatsoever. The author spent more time keeping them apart then building their relationship. And, if you blinked, you missed that stingy little bit of HEA they got in the epilogue. Listen, I’m all for a book filled with angst and strife where the couple goes through it but, who wants to read a storyline where the hero and heroine are apart the entire book?!!!! How is that romantic?!!! While I really enjoyed Here We Go Again, Shayla and Tristen’s relationship woes soured it some for me. But, I digress. To say I’m going to miss the Carter clan is an understatement. This was the most dysfunctional and toxic family I’ve ever read about but, I absolutely loved getting to know every single one of these characters. The author did a phenomenal job keeping us entertained with each book. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a Christmas update on everyone.
