A wealthy noblewoman with a heart of gold, a wounded knight closed off to love, and the sacrifices for a chalice that can bring healing.
Lady Karina lives in a convent and expects to become a nun someday. When her wealthy father asks her to help his textile business become more successful by marrying one of the popular Knights of Brethren, Karina complies, ever the dutiful daughter.
During a royal quest to find the sacred chalice, Torvald is called home to save his family’s estate through an arranged marriage to a wealthy maiden. Although willing to do his duty, he’s vowed never to give his heart to anyone after watching his father suffer heartbreak over a woman.
As Torvald weds the kind and lovely Karina, he resists the pull of attraction to his bride. Even though Karina feels the sting of Torvald’s rejection, she chooses to love him unconditionally. As he resumes his search for the chalice and puts his life in jeopardy, Karina makes the ultimate sacrifice for him. Will he have the chance to love her in return before it’s too late?

'My muscles hardened. And I attempted to clear my mind as I always did before I went into battle. I operated ruthlessly when I was singly focused on my enemy.'
Jody Hedlund has once again brought us a wonderful medieval story in this fourth contribution in her Knights of Brethren series. This is Torvald's story, and what a story it is! I've been waiting for his and it did not disappoint. Torvald has vowed never to love a woman after his mother's desertion. But he hasn't counted on the Lady Karina, who is all goodness. They marry to add Karina's wealth to him and save his estate.
In the midst of all this, Torvald must still join the search for the Holy Chalice in order to heal his queen. Much danger ensures as everything seems to turn in a way opposite from what is necessary. Both Torvald and Karina must confront the evil in Hardanger Forest if they want to push forward. And it will come at a great cost.
Come along as Hedlund brings the best yet in the series (my opinion) and we learn that true love sometimes sacrifices for others. I can't wait for the next in the series!
My thanks to the publisher and author for a copy of this book. The opinion here is entirely my own.
Oh wow! This book was absolutely AMAZING!!! I haven’t read a book by Jody Hedlund before but after reading this she will be on my go to author list! Luckily she has many more books I can read. Without a doubt she has a gift for story telling. Her writing was brilliant but also flowed with such ease for the reader that I moved through it quickly devouring every word.
Enriched is the fourth book in the Knights of Brethren series. I hadn’t read any of the others yet but because of the fantastic storytelling I never felt lost and was able to pick up that the quest to find the chalice has been something ongoing in past books. I loved this so much that I will be picking up the first 3 books in the series plus continuing on when the rest of the series releases. Can’t wait to get the back story on some of the other characters from this book.
I loved the story between Torvald and Karina. They were so good together. Their instant attraction to each other was undeniable but the relationship was not rushed into and we got to see them both grow as characters as well as in their relationship. I loved them both instantly. Karina was so sweet and caring. I loved her so much! I could understand Torvalds past and why he was holding himself back from falling in love. Readers were treated to some delicious kisses between them but the book was also very sweet and clean.
I can not wait to read the other books in this medieval, fairytale series! This book is going on my favorites list!
I received an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book was just amazing! I don’t know how Hedlund does it, but these books just keep on getting better and better! I love reading the marriage of convenience troops and this book had a great one. Enriched is the fourth book in Jody Hedlund’s Knights of Brethren series and it was just so good! Karina was such an amazing character! She worked hard to care for others and she really wanted to make her family proud. I really enjoyed reading about Karina especially as she got to know Torvald. Although it was a marriage of convenience, Karina fell hard and fast. She really cared for Torvald and she wanted to love him as best she could. However Karina was also scared of being a burden and she never wanted to burden her new husband. Oh, Torvald, he had a lot to work on. He was afraid to love because of how it had crippled his father. He never wanted to become a person who falls apart because of love. But Karina had a way of working her way past his walls. Torvlad was trying to protect his heart, but Karina was kinder than he could have imagined. He found himself longing to protect her and keep her safe. It was cute to read about him falling for Karina. Torvlad had to decide if he was willing to risk his heart for his wife or if he would close himself off forever. Karina and Torvald’s romance was so sweet. They made each other better. I really enjoyed reading about them falling in love and seeing them connect. They were able to be open with each other. I also loved how they both sought to seek God’s guidance and help. They wanted to honor God through their actions. The plot was also really exciting. I didn't know how Karina and Torvlad were going to make their marriage work while searching for the Holy Grail. I was on the edge of my seat, cheering for the characters. It was also fun to see some of the other knights again. I loved everything about Enriched and I am even more excited for the next books. The writing is amazing and the covers are stunning. I am excited to see how the series will end! Enriched is definitely the most read. The characters are engaging and the story draws you in. I read this book in one day! Enriched is a clean medieval YA novel.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.
With every book I read by Jody Hedlund, I only become more and more obsessed! I genuinely could not put Enriched down—I read it in one sitting. I did my very best not to rush through it, but obviously I failed spectacularly and I can’t complain. This may just be my favorite in this series so far!
I have been intrigued by Torvald since the first pages of book one in this series (Enamored) so I was unbelievably excited to finally get his story in my hands. He and Karina were a perfect match and were both well developed characters—I feel like I know them in my real life. As much as I loved Torvald, I also really enjoyed Karina’s character, as she was optimistic and generous in a completely genuine way. And I loved getting to know Espen (I can already tell he’s going to be hilarious and sweet in his book, Enflamed) and Kristoffer, and seeing familiar characters once again.
My only complaint about Enriched is that it ended. I’m absolutely convinced Hedlund can’t write a book I won’t love, and this story is a perfect example of her impeccable talent. You can’t miss this series! 5/5 stars
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
While I really loved this book, it’s my least favorite of the series so far. Which is largely due to Torvald😬 I’m not someone who loves the quiet, broody hero who’s typically always in a bad mood and is bound and determined not to love the girl. At the beginning, I thought I would like him because he was already showing signs of feeling soft for her. But then there were thing he said, did, and thought that were just really annoying to me where I was like, really dude? 🙄 He did have really good character growth though. It was just kind of too late for me; like hmm ok but I still don’t love you.
Karina I liked, though she did come off as a bit childish to me🤷🏼♀️
Then there were parts that were supposed to be exciting that just weren’t exciting. It was again just kind of like hmm ok.
🚨SPOILER!!🚨 The method of how the chalice heals though….having to let the sick or injured person drink the blood of the other person for it work…major cringe. Not a fan of that at all.
“One thing was becoming all too clear—Lady Karina was easy to fall in love with. I just couldn’t allow myself to do so.”
I LOVED this book! This series is so amazing! Each book blends believable fantasy with clean, heartfelt romance, mystery and plenty of action. This is definitely my favorite book so far! I love grumpy/sunshine and marriage of convenience tropes and this book combines the two brilliantly. There’s also messages of faith, forgiveness, and loving unconditionally beautifully woven into the story.
Called back home from his quest for the sacred chalice, Torvald enters into a marriage of convenience to rescue his father’s failing estate. When he finally meets his bride, he’s surprised at her absolute beauty both inside and out. Though he feels a fierce attraction, Torvald has seen what loving a woman did to his father and he refuses to open his heart. He wants to leave as soon as possible to continue the king’s quest and also avoid his growing feelings. When Karina joins him and is willing to offer the ultimate sacrifice, will it be too late to admit his love?
Karina is the epitome of kindness. She’s selfless, thoughtful, and tenderhearted. Feeling often forgotten or in the way, she’s spent the last few years in a convent believing she’ll become a nun until her father asks her to marry to improve their family’s business and status. Not cut out for the convent life, she’s willing to marry the knight all the other novices swoon over. Torvald is more handsome than she could imagine. She sees the good in him even though his feelings towards her tend to run hot and cold. She thinks if she continues to love him unconditionally, she can eventually win him over. But, how much is she willing to sacrifice to win his love?
I loved the romance between Karina and Torvald. Grumpy, Darcyesque characters are my favorite and Torvald is one of those brooding, passionate heroes you can’t help but love. He constantly battles within himself over his feelings. Holy cow! The way he kisses Karina. It’s completely clean, but Jody Hedlund knows how to write passionate kisses!
This is definitely one story you need to read! The chemistry between these two is explosive. There’s plenty of action and swoony romance that kept me quickly turning those pages with a few twists along the way. I absolutely adored the last few chapters. I don’t want to spoil anything except to say that I loved the grand gestures both Karina and Torvald offer to each other. It was also fun to see the Knights of Brethren all together again.
Highly recommend to YA readers and adults alike. I can’t wait for the next book! Though this is part of a series there’s enough backstory provided that it can be read as a standalone. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.
Jody Hedlund is an author with the special ability to write books that keep me up till an unholy hour just to finish.
I'll admit, I was a little leery of this one, coming down from the emotional high that was Gunnar's (Gawain's) story, I wasn't sure if I would like this one as much seeing as I did not care for Torvald quite like I did for Gunnar. Enter Karina who has to be my favorite heroine from this series so far. I honestly just related so hard to the fact that she absolutely does not have a filter. To be honest, she really reminded me of Princess Anna from Frozen (who is definitely one of my fave Disney princesses). Torvald was great too, if anything this guy reminded me of a more stoic Anakin Skywalker, he feels so much more strongly than everyone and those feelings can often make him more reckless. Plus, this book did have Gunnar in it, not much but it was enough for me.
Not to mention the fact that this was a marriage of convenience story and I'm such a sucker for those...
I was curious why the next books had fire on the cover, but now I know and honestly I cannot wait to get to those, and delve into the stories for the final two Knights of the Brethren (well, except for the newbies who don't even have names, rip them).
I received a copy of this book from the author, all opinions, however, are my own.
I don't know how Jody Hedlund does it time and time again, but man! This book was FANTASTIC! Talk about a swoony romance with the perfect blend of romance, intrigue, action, and character growth; I ate this book up! We are talking binged it in record time, I was so immersed in the story. I've been looking forward to Torvald's story since the first two books really set up his character as one that I found quite compelling. I knew there was more to him and I loved finding out the things that made him tick in this book. Karina was a great match for him and though there was some major attraction and chemistry early on, I did appreciate that the author allowed us to see that sort of insta-attraction develop into something much deeper. I also loved how resourceful and smart Karina was. This book has some majorly delicious kisses while staying solidly in the clean romance department. I cannot wait for the next book in what has become one of my favorite YA Medieval Romance series by Jody Hedlund. I received an advance reader copy of this novel. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I have preordered a final print copy.
Jody Hedlund's Knights of the Brethren series has another outstanding installment in Enriched. The fourth book of the series, readers continue along the search for the sacred chalice amid danger and treachery. A medieval spin on the legend of the Holy Grail, I could not get enough of this story!
Jody Hedlund writes her characters to perfection. Coming from a fellow redhead, this book's heroine was absolutely stunning – inside and out. I quickly found myself caught in the characters' desperate plight to overcome evil and learn what sacrificial love is all about. This book is true craftsmanship of storytelling, full of the richest of emotion.
A timeless story of love and sacrifice, Enriched is a beautiful tale that will touch the hardest of hearts. I cannot recommend this book and the other members of the series more highly!
I received this book from the author. All opinions are my own.
Hands down the very best of this series to date! They really do improve with each new book. Lady Karina was the kindest and most compassionate maiden sharing care to both human and animal alike. It made this story a breath of fresh air as Karina was so likable but not in an annoying or unrealistic way. Torvald was a little harder to get along with but over time you grew to understand why he was the way he portrayed and he did grow as the story progressed. I especially enjoyed the time spent in Romsdal especially the Hardanger forest and how even there Karina could use her kindness to make a difference as well as her bravery. This book brings the end to the holy grail aspect, which I enjoyed over the first two in the series which was about the sword of the magi. The next two will be about the quest for a holy lantern that can be used in the upcoming war with the Dark warriors, can't wait to see what happens next! I want to thank the author for allowing me to read prior to release, the review is my honest take on it.
Enriched is a fabulous addition to author Jody Hedlund’s sweet fairytale style medieval romance Knights of Brethren series. Readers will love the fiery redhead, Lady Karina, and the chalice searching knight, Torvald. With an arranged marriage, the two join together, both trying to help and please their families. A story of duty, danger, heartache, rejection, deception, and unconditional love, Hedlund has written a beautiful, adventure filled and captivating romantic story that readers will be charmed by. The fourth book in the series, this splendid book continues the brilliant story of the holy grail. Readers will not want to put this charming book down.

Trovald and Karina eek!!! I was looking forward to this story for the longest time and it sure didn't disappoint. I loved every minute of it. Looking at the story from both their points of view understanding their inner thoughts and fears and desires watching them try to find the Holy Grail with the unpredictability that keeps coming up and fall in love despite trying the hardest not to. This book takes you on a journey of love and fantasy of faith and friendship of the fight between good and evil and it doesn't disappoint. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. All opinions expressed are solely mine
This book was just plain fun! It had everything I have come to expect in a Jody Hedlund YA medieval book - adventure, suspense, and lots of swoony romance! This one is a marriage of convenience that quickly becomes something more. A little bit of instalove/insta attraction but it worked for the length of the book. Definitely recommend this series!
This is the fourth book in Jody Hedlund’s latest medieval romance series. If you haven’t read the first three yet (Enamored, Entwined and Ensnared), I do recommend you read them before this one.
I enjoyed the arranged marriage trope of this book – Torval needs to marry a rich heiress in order to save his family’s castle, but is determined not to fall in love (you’ll need to read the book to find out why he doesn’t want to fall in love). Mix that with a rich heiress who feels overlooked and unwanted by her family. Both main characters need to grow and mature before they truly can learn to love another person. I enjoyed reading how that happens, and I think you will too. It was hard to put this book down.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
So so good!!! I love the transformation that the characters go thru in Jody's books. This one is no different. I think like many, this is my favorite in the series so far!
The search for the ancient chalice continues. The story opens with Torvald, one of the Knights of Brethren, returning home to marry the daughter of a wealthy lord. The marriage was arranged by the two fathers for their own mutual benefit. One expected to be able to save his lands with the dowry he would receive and the other expected to gain respect from the marriage of his daughter to a Knight of Brethren. Sadly, both fathers seemed to be out of touch with their own offspring. One of the most interesting conversations took place between Torvald and Karina after they first saw each other. She was not specifically identified and was dressed as a nun. Torvald thought the other woman with the nun was Karina. When he encountered the nun in the chapel later, he decided to gain some inside knowledge about Karina. One of his questions was about Karina’s favorite color. The nun, who he did not realize was actually Karina, responded that Karina loved the color gold. Quite interestingly, the story reveals a young woman with a heart of gold, while wealth held little attraction for her. She loves people far more than she loves gold and seeks ways to help the less fortunate. After the wedding ceremony, Torvald is determined to keep his distance so he will never end up like his father. He just wants to get back to searching for the chalice with Gunnar. I enjoyed the suspense from so many angles as the story unfolds. If you enjoy stories that include a historical setting, arranged marriages, knights in shining armor, mythical characters, and so much more, you will enjoy this one. I received an advance copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
“Selfless love for a woman doesn’t turn a man into a weakling. Instead, when we push ourselves hard to give, sacrifice, be patient, and love unconditionally, we actually become stronger.”
I’m so glad Jody Hedlund is releasing this series so quickly! The Knights of Brethren series has a way of drawing you in with a need to know what happens next! Enriched is no exception. Here we have the story of Torvald. When we last saw him, he had to step away from the quest for the ancient chalice believed to be able to save the queen because of his duty to his family. He agrees to an arranged marriage to a wealthy maiden to help save his family’s estate. Torvald has no intentions of letting his heart become involved- he watched what loving a woman did to his father when his mother abandoned them, so he sets out to guard his own heart. Karina had every intention of becoming a nun. But when her father asks her to marry Torvald instead to gain an alliance and grow his textile business, she agrees. And she’s completely surprised by how drawn she is to the emotionally reserved knight almost immediately. It doesn’t take Torvald long to realize what a gem his new bride is and how she inspires love and respect from everyone she meets. When he resumes his search for the chalice, circumstances put both Torvald and Karina in danger. Can Torvald learn to open his heart in time? Or will Karina’s sacrificial love separate them forever?
Enriched mixes action-filled medieval fiction with sweet romance and just a little bit of fantasy. This series is loosely based on the Knights of the Round Table and this is the continuing search for the Holy Grail. This installment might be my favorite yet! I’m always a sucker for marriage of convenience stories and Jody Hedlund writes some of the best. Karina is such a fantastic character. She’s kind and generous and loves unreservedly. She is strong and capable and doesn’t need her big strong knight to save her… just to learn how to love her. Torvald’s motivations are genuine and believable because of his backstory. Their love story is sweet and enjoyable. The climax with the chalice was completely rewarding and exciting!
I absolutely love that Jody’s YA fiction always has a bit of a lesson, and this quote really exemplifies the heart of Enriched: “Loving others was necessary and good when they were easy to love. But loving others was even more necessary when they were challenging and difficult and didn’t reciprocate.”
There isn’t quite a cliffhanger, but I certainly want to know what happens next! The books in this series are definitely best read in order, as the continuing story is important. I can’t WAIT for the final two!
I recommend Enriched for middle readers (as long as they’re ok with some kisses, a bit of medieval violence, and references to a bleeding curse) all the way up to grandparents! There’s a little something for everyone who picks up a Jody Hedlund book!
I received a complementary copy of this book from the author. My opinions are my own and I was not asked to leave a positive review.
Jody Hedlund adds another tale to her Knights of Brethren series, and this may be the best story of all! A dashing knight who's vowed to never trust another woman enters into an arranged marriage with a young woman planning to become a nun and soon finds his life plan completely altered. How can he continue to resist someone who offers him such unconditional devotion?
Oh, how I loved both of these characters! Lady Karina is beautiful and wealthy, but it is her kindness that is like a magnet for Torvald. Hedlund uses the classic trope of 'a marriage of convenience' to add interest, and I was swept away by the compelling romance that evolves from their union. This is Christian fiction so there is nothing explicit but oh, my, the kisses are to die for! Enriched also has adventure, danger, and the continuing search for the Holy Grail, along with a light mystery surrounding Torvald's home.
If you're looking for heart-pounding adventure, heartfelt sentiments, and breathtaking romance, grab a copy of Enriched and prepare to be swept away!
I received an advanced copy from the author. There was no obligation for a positive review, and I am voluntarily sharing my thoughts.
I absolutely love this series, and I keep thinking each book I read is my favorite, but I think this one may truly be! Karina and Torvald are such a perfect match. He’s quiet and has trouble expressing himself, while she’s a chatterbox who shows everyone she meets how caring and kind she is. They have differences that help them complete each other, while sharing so many great traits as well, including strength, loyalty, and a deep capacity to love. This story has an amazing cast of characters, some known from previous books and some new, an exciting quest, and a beautiful setting. I just loved the love story, and Jody Hedlund really is the queen of slow burn romance! The spiritual aspect was strong as well. This is definitely a series to own each book, as all are worth rereading, and I cannot wait for the next one!
This series just gets better and better! The fantasy world that Jody Hedlund is creating with this series is phenomenal and it is easy to immerse yourself into the settings and lives of the characters in each individual novel. Karina is compassionate, kind, and selfless while Torvald is the grumpy brooding hero that makes an interesting dynamic for their developing relationship. Their romance is clean but still full of swoon worthy kisses. I also loved the interwoven themes of forgiveness and unconditional love. The quest and mystery in the book kept my attention from beginning to end. Even though this series has been marketed to young adults, I think readers of any age will enjoy these novels! I am excited to read the rest of the series. Highly recommended!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
Everything about this story was rich. From the beginning it pulls you in, captivating you even more than the other books in this series. Torvald is this devilishly handsome hero who is kind, truthful, noble, and strong. Karina is this good and selfless person who enriches those around her by truly caring about them. They were not just one dimensional good, but they had a myriad of characteristics that made them shine. Their major faults mirrored each other in the origin coming from their fathers. Torvald rejected love because of what it had done to his father, and Karina devalued her importance because her father ignored her. Their backstories also seemed to contain more. Not only are there the complex stories of their fathers, there is also Torvald's mother and Karina's time at the convent. Then you add in the adventure itself with the other Knights, the coming war, the jotunn, and the other heroines, and you have a very well-rounded tale. The settings are detailed and varied. The movement from decrepit castle to fancy castle to wild forest to deep cave kept the interest active. Their romance was fiery. It leapt off the page and singed the edges, but it was still clean if you don't mind some passionate kisses within the bonds of marriage. The jotunn was once again an entertaining fantasy element that added this thread of a mystical, comical, and dangerous being. Him along with the chalice gives this story a true fantasy vibe that is perfection. I love how this series has more intricate fantasy elements. It really elevates the stories for me. The ending was filled with action and danger leading to a dramatic and uncertain final few pages. But it wrapped up with the sweetest golden gesture that brought the tale to a fitting conclusion. Enriched was super satisfying all the way around, and this makes me want the next books even more. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
So I've apparently been under a rock, as this is the first Jody Hedlund book I've read. But what a book! Action, adventure, intrigue, the Holy Grail, fantasy, whew! And now I want to read all of Jody Hedlund's books.
Her way with words drew me in immediately and didn't let go. Add in everything listed above along with an arranged marriage in which one of the parties vows to never love the other, and school was put off so I could finish the book (we homeschool year-round).
I really don't feel like I'm doing the story justice, so please just go read it. And also tell me: which Jody Hedlund book should I read next???
*I was given this ebook for review. All opinions are my own.*
I loved this book by Jody Hedlund! I loved how it was an arranged marriage story but as they got to know each other they realized that they brought out the best in each other and could have a real marriage. I liked how patient and selfless Karina was with Torvald. I loved how she was willing to sacrifice her happiness to allow Torvald to have what he thought he wanted. I loved this medieval story and I have enjoyed each of the books in this series. I love the love and adventure that are in each one and can’t wait to read the next one.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
Once again Jody Hedlund completely wrecked my to do list because I couldn’t stop reading her book. She seriously writes the swooniest heroes, the best kisses, and the most entertaining stories out there. I will read whatever she writes.
The search for the magical healing chalice continues in this next installment of the Knights of Brethren series and you don't want to miss it!
Enriched delivers another swoony romance, this time an arranged marriage (my favorite trope!) between Sir Torvald and Lady Karina! We also have a bit of grumpy/sunshine trope going on and I absolutely loved both characters and what they brought to the story!
I love the romance and adventure and suspense that is found in this series! -this book could be read as a stand-alone but I recommend reading this series in order for the best enjoyment!
I absolutely loved each one of the Knights of Brethren books. With each book that I finished, I thought to myself, "this was so good, I think it's my favorite" until I read Entrusted (Book 6) and concluded that THIS is my favorite! (this just tells you how good they all were!) Jody Hedlund is an excellent writer, with each book having its own action, suspense and 0h-so-sweet romance. It's also satisfying to see light overcome darkness and good triumph over evil. I really liked how there was connection between all the characters and Knights in each of the six books and in the final book everything ties together to a beautiful conclusion. Just delightful and captivating reading that I couldn't wait to get back to every time I put my book down.
I have to say, I think this is my favorite book so far of this series!! Jody Hedlund does a great job on the descriptions of the character’s depth and emotions for both Torvald and Karina! This was a great read.
I am so happy to be able to read Torvald's story. This is the fourth book in the Knights of Brethren series and it is best read in order to get the full layers of the story. This book overlaps with the 3rd book quite a bit. I enjoyed reading this story and found it easy to read. I loved Torvold and Karina and watching them fall in love and surrender to that love. The setting was amazing and I wished I could step into the book to look around. I look forward to reading more books in this series and others by Jody Hedlund.
Ah, I can't get enough of these books! As always, Jody weaves beautiful messages of faith and forgiveness into a world of her own creation inspired by history and highlighted with God's Word. I love how Jody brings this world and it's people to life. Torvald caught my attention back in the first book and I had hoped that Jody planned to use him as a main character. I was not disappointed! I think it's safe to say that I was as *enriched* by this story as the characters were by living it. 😁
