River's Return

Rate this book
Never fitting into his family of horse ranchers, biker Shane Rydell, needs the open road over the horse pastures of his youth.

He has spent his life trying to find a road that can travel between the family he loves and the open road he is pulled towards. He can’t seem to sever the connection to a place he doesn’t want to be from, but which, he always seems destined to return to.

Prim and proper school teacher, Allison Gray has been burned deep enough she will never risk her heart again after a failed marriage that has left her devastated. A rare teaching opportunity brings her to the small town of River’s End. Meeting the obnoxious and swaggering Shane Rydell, when he comes to his nephew’s conference, Allison is confident that his charms will never work on her.

But underneath the callous, cocky smile is a rare heart that becomes the only person to finally breech the concrete wall Allison has surrounded her grief with. Just as she considers trusting this man, so opposite of her but so genuine, does the unexpected happen. Past fears and anguish make her pull away from Shane, sure of one thing: she will never go through the same devastation that sent her running to River’s End. Even if that means losing Shane.

But instead of breaking them, their connection will become something far more than either of them ever dreamed of… it will become everything.

Binge read this contemporary, western romance series, full of hot cowboys and family entanglements that is based around the Rydell River Ranch brought to you by small-town romance author Leanne Davis…

Loved this third book in the series. Here again as in the first book there were real world problems that the characters had to overcome.

The hero and heroine did not seem to be a good match at first, the local grade school teacher and a bike riding man 'ho. He was not a perfect hero by any means. He was a womanizer who slept with anyone and committed to no one. But after he met her he began to change to try to be a better man for her. Very emotional over all and I loved how all in the hero was. Great romantic dialog if you like that kind of stuff.

This author never ceases to take me on an emotional roller coaster ride with every book she writes. This series has never had any conventional romances. She always takes two people who couldnt be more different from everything from looks to moral values to where and how they were raised but yet as the story progresses you see along with the characters they are perfect for each other.

Shane Rydell never felt like he fit in with his family even though he loved his brother dearly. They were raised on a cattle and horse ranch and horses were never his thing. His father was a little rough on him due to this which in turn made Shane once he was old enough leave for months at a time on his Harley. Shane answered to no one and he did what he wanted no apologies. He was happiest when he was fixing old tractors or cars or motorcycles. Give him something electronic and he'd tinker with it. He also didnt believe in relationships. He unapologetically slept with who he wanted whether they were married or not and his conscience was clear because he wasn't the one cheating. His view on life and how he lived it came to a screeching halt once he has to attend his nephews parent/teacher conference when his brother is away on his honeymoon.

I look at this book as two parts. The first part was the restoration of Shane's conscience by Allison Gray who is an elementary teacher with aspirations of helping others with reading disabilities. She has a strong moral compass and doesn't hesitate in telling Shane his selfish actions have the potential to harm innocent people. As Shane starts to finally feel in his heart again and look at his actions your heart breaks for him when even his own family has a problem believing the drastic change. The second half of this book is Allison Gray's story. Shane knew right away he loved Allison but he had no idea of the deep rooted emotional pain she was hiding. I'm not going to get into what that was but it rips your heart out a time or two or three.

Unknowingly Allison made Shane into a better man which she in turn would need to help her move past some traumatic issues.

There was one other thing that was very special to see during this book. In the first book in the series the heroine was illiterate and had suffered because of her never being able to learn to read. Allison knew she suffered from dyslexia that had gone undiagnosed for more than 26 years and through Shane's urging convinced Allison to get educated and certified to teach Erin how to conquer her disability and finally learn to read. Nothing is ever easy for any characters in any of Leanne's books but love and determination eventually get these characters the happiness they finally deserve.

Shane Rydell hates horses and growing up on a ranch it makes things difficult. His brother Jack is away with Erin so Shane must take on the responsibility of looking after his nephews, Ben and Charlie. Shane is called into Charlie's school to talk to his teacher as he is having difficulties and Shane says he will help out.

Allison Gray is Charlie's teacher and isn't too sure what to make of Charlie's Uncle Shane. But soon she sees another side of Shane when she sees him sneaking out of her married neighbor's, Celia Damon's house while her husband is out of town working.

There is something about Allison that challenges Shane and soon he finds himself thinking about her before making decisions. But after seeing what Shane is capable of will Allison trust him with her heart?

This is such a great book and I really enjoyed it!

I knew that I would like Shane but I was frustrated at his lack of morals with being the "mister" of Celia. I was shocked at how he didn't see it as his problem until Allison called him out on it. There was such a fundamental change with Shane in this book because of Allison and I loved how he began to see things differently because of her. He became so much more aware of what everyone needed after this and it was so good!

Allison had her own difficult past and I could see why Shane's behavior at the beginning of the book bugged her so much. I was sad to see what she had gone through in the past and knew why Shane was a big risk with her heart. I was also extremely happy to see how her work with Erin gave her back the passion she had with teaching.

The passion between Shane and Allison was through the roof but Allison remained so guarded and it made perfect sense!

My heart was breaking for Allison towards the end and I was crossing my fingers that she would make the right decision for her but I really wanted her to give it a try!!

Loved the end and the epilogue and I can't wait for more in this series!

Rivers Return follows Shane Ryder and Allison. Shane is a biker, mechanic, perpetual player and breaker of most rules. He’s never pulled his weight on the Rydell ranch, lives by his own set of rules which is to enjoy each day and never do anything he doesn’t want to do. Allison is a prim and proper 5th grade school teacher. She’s moved from her home town to escape her past, a past she’s not told anyone about. That is until she builds an unlikely friendship with Shane. She confessed to him about losing her baby at full term and how she hasn’t moved past that. Their friendship develops, Shane has never had a girlfriend before or wanted to ever be faithful to anyone but he wants that with Allison. Allison is scared to ever experience love again and lose it. The story follows their relationship. Another good book in the series.

This is the one I've been waiting for! I knew I would get sucked into Shane's story and I was right! This one was just incredible. Alot of healing happened in this one. We find out why Shane leaves and how it takes a special girl for him to stay. We casually meet Allison in book 1 but this book we get to know her so much better. She has spitfire that's for sure! She also has been thru something I can't even imagine. It seriously broke my heart but Shane breaks through her walls and helps her heal. He pushes her to do what she loves and gets some headway with Erin at the same time(which is good!). Allison has a passion for teaching that you don't see much of in this small town. I seriously fell in love with both of these characters. Shane is definitely my favorite of the brothers! I can't wait to read the next book and finds out what happens next!

Allison is An amazing character!!

I don't even know where to begin! Allison and Shane's story was incredible and heart wrenching. Allison's determination to help Erin learn to read is beyond what any educator would do and I wish there would be more like Allison in the education system. Too many children get passed up and looked over if they don't know if understand a certain topic or subject and left behind while others move forward. If given the time and patience with those children, they CAN learn and succeed.

Allison also struggles with something so precious and heartwrenching. I want give it away on here. I have never experienced something like that but just reading how Leanne Davis describes the pain and heartache, it's like you're right there beside Allison through it all, even up to the happy ending for her and shane!

Change & possibilities

This story is everything. It is my favorite of the series so far. It is heart wrenching and breathtaking. It is gripping and emotional. It is all realistic and possible.
Shane is the ultimate book boyfriend. I mean tatted, bad boy who lives how he wants, grew up on a ranch, and is honest to a fault- what's not to love?! Okay so he is cocky and his morals are definitely skewed. He lives life to the fullest and does everything full throttle.
Allison is intelligent, buttoned-up, and predictable. She is passionate about helping people learn to read and overcome obstacles. She has a past trauma that keeps her from letting anyone close. The annoying biker with questionable values is the last person on earth she would consider conversing with but he keeps showing up regardless.

Just goes to show that appearances mean nothing

This one has been the most heartbreaking Rivers End book for me!
Shane was always the wild child never destined to become much, always leaving on his bike on some new adventure. When he meets his nephew Charlie's teacher he thinks she could be fun but she has no intention of doing anything with the big bad biker!
Allison has been through heartache that no-one should go through and isn't interested in anything to do with Shane epically when he asks her to make it look like they are having an affair so her neighbours husband doesn't catch on to the fact its actually the wife that he is seeing.
With nobody believing Shane will stick around how does he show Allison what he feels is for real!

Absolutely loved this book. Total opposites Shane and Allison are. Allison is Charlie’s teacher. She’s a red hair smaller woman that loves to teach. Shane meets Allison during a parent teacher conference that was set up while Jack and Erin are on a trip and Shane is in charge of the boys. After the meeting Allison saw Shane a bit more since her neighbor was seeing him. Allison has morals and tries to always do the right way. She is hiding a pretty big secret. As Allison and Shane get closer she starts to open up about her old life. This is a heartfelt book that you want to see her have the best of everything. Shane never wanted to be with one woman forever but can Allison change that for him, maybe.

I loved this third book! Shane was a very busy man when it came to his sex life, until Allison. These two were very unlikely and did not seem to make sense. After some time together and building their relationship some Shane started to change and grow up some so to say. The two made more sense and the relationship grew. They overcame a lot of realistic problems and were able to find happiness. I really liked the way the Author included the pain of losing a child at birth and how it is different than a miscarriage. I have helped a friend through this same thing, it is not easy and is vastly different when going through the birthing process. I loved this book overall and cant wait for the next one!

I absolutely adore this author's writing style and how she manages to interweave so many unique characters and intricate plot lines throughout an entire series seamlessly. I truly feel as though I am in the character's head each time I open one of her books. Which is especially impressive because authors usually have a distinct writing voice, and while Leanne Davis certainly does, her characters come through loud and clear. In River's Return it was an adventure being inside the moody and mysterious Shane Rydell's mind. As the family outcast he never really fits in anywhere, so he travels everywhere. Will he wander forever, or will a woman who sees through his playboy, motorhead antics give him a reason to stay?

Heartbreaking and beautiful

Shane was a man that would turn most women off. He certainly did Allison until they actually became friends. No one really knows what another person goes through behind closed doors. It's so much easier to take it until you make it.
Allison felt that way until Shane turned out to be everything she needed but never wanted. No one ever thought Shane was capable of settling down or being committed. It only took one woman to steal his heart and make him feel at home finally. This book will keep you turning the pages.

Better than the first two in the series this is my favorite so far, maybe I just have soft spot to the teacher - bad boy genre? This is Shane's story the brother than never stays in town but always seems to return home. Allison is the elementary teacher of Shane's nephew so their paths cross quite often. I loved how Allison in never afraid to call Shane out on his attitude, it's refreshing to see him put in his place. But she gets to know him better her feelings grow. Another emotional read by Leanne Davis.

I loved this book as much as the first and second book. It always about two souls that are so different that you can't picture them to be together. Allison no different than the two other ladies in the series so far, trying to get away from there past only to be drawn in by one of the brothers. This time is Shane the brother that can't keep in his pants and is always on the move. The rollercoaster ride these two take you on throughout the book was worth it just to see the way this book ended. It had me smiling when the good part came. This series just keeps getting better!

Shane ❤️ Allison

Such a great book, Allison has been through a traumatic experience and Shane was not the man that anyone would consider as a nurturer. But his all consuming love for her is beautiful. Shane becomes the man that he never thought he would be, as he became Allison’s rock.
In Shane’s words:
“I can only promise you that I’ll be right here. By your side. I won’t let you push me away. I would even tear my bleeding heart from my chest and hand it to you if that will prove my unconditional love for you.” ❤️

This story...... Shane & Allison couldn’t be a more mismatched couple. They live completely different lives, have completely different beliefs, they couldn’t even look more different. I can honestly say I’ve never read a crazier storyline that actually brings a couple together, but it works.
This series of books has touched on topics that I’ve not come across very often and I’m enjoying the change of pace. They tend to hit an emotional chord with me but I’ve recommended this series to numerous friends. It’s well written as well. This is a must read.

Shane, a member of the Rydell family of ranchers, has never been especially fond of horses or ranching. He loves his motorcycle and takes off frequently to get away. Allison is a local school teacher, who has experienced her share of loss. She finds herself attracted to Shane but unimpressed with his behavior. Shane starts a friendship with her that grows. Allison helps Shane grow up more and he helps her lighten up. He is amazingly supportive and patient with her grief. I love the Rydell men and this series.

Motorcycle dude meets up right school marm

This is the 3rd blooming this series and I have loved them all .There is too many in the series as far as I'm concerned so I will pick and choose groom now on. I have loved the family members and the story line that includes the people from the previous book . There is a final epilogue offered at the end of the first book that takes you thru to the final years of Jack and Erin . Unless you don't mind spoilers, I would not read it at. Least until you read this far. Year jerker for the soft hearted.(me)

Reformed by love

Shane is a bad boy, he doesn't see sleeping with a married woman as wrong for him since he didn't make any promises to anyone to be monogamous. Things start to change when he meets his nephews teacher at a parent teacher conference. Bad boy meets nice teacher. Neither likes the other right from the start. But things change when his current play mate tells her husband that he's sleeping with the girl next door who is the teacher. Bad impression again. Good read with a lot of trauma being worked through. Couldn't put it down.

I wasn't sure what to think of Shane, reading about him in the earlier books of the series. There was definitely more to him than I thought. There's something about meeting someone that makes you want to be a better person, and while Allison wears Shane down, he's really the strong one. Much of his strength is silent but means so much. I like that he was there for Allison through her painful past, and helps her through her life struggles.

Ok beginning and end

I actually didn’t care much for the beginning and ends of this book, but I loved the middle. This author hasn’t been shy about MCs having sex with out people but I really didn’t like how much it happened with Shane here. Once he stopped that I liked him.

Then Allison went straight crazy near the end. Maybe for good reason, but it just didn’t seem to feel legit to me.

Perfect

This author has the uncanny ability to take situations that happen to everyday people and turn them into stories you will always remember.

Allison and Shane are complete opposites.

Allison is the follow the rules, don’t disrupt the status quo kind of girl.
Shane is the tatted bad boy that gets around.

You know the saying.. opposites attract.
This story had me crying and laughing a lot of times reading the same page.

This series is a definite one click.

Third book and the best so far

In this book we get to know bad boy Shane: an inked, leather wearing, commitment avoiding, motorcycle riding bad boy. Then he meets Allison. And nothing will ever be the same again. This is an entertaining romance set around the Rydell ranch. I like that the author chose to highlight the failure of schools to help dyslexic students learn to read and wove it neatly into this story.

Good story, mediocre writing...

This was a sweet story. Probably just as good as River's Escape (Ian's story). I will say though, I'm not real crazy about the author's style of writing. Many times, I've felt there isn't enough dialogue between the characters. In my opinion, this makes the book drag aimlessly, instead of flowing flawlessly. Again, I like the stories in this series so I'll keep reading.

This is book 3 in the series of Rivers end by Leanne Davis. This series gets better and better. Hands down loved it.  This story is about Shane and Allison. Shane is an Alpha male. He loves to ride and can fix anything. Allison is his nephews teacher. Shane had a not so great first impression at Charlie's teachers conference. These 2 through off sparks. Loved it.

Unexpected love

Well, I wonder if this series will get better and it does. Shane and Allison take this story to the next level. It really is a book of people who don't expect to wind up together but falls in love. Don't miss this book.

Can't wait to see what is going to happen on the ranch and with these characters.

I have to say this was a tough book to read. Great book but tough. The author did a really good job really making you feel like you were part of the story. I felt all the ups and down. It was very believable and the book really kept you from putting the book down. The only complaint is that I could of read more of this story.

This is the 3rd book and Shane’s book and after I clean the tears out of my eyes wowie this emotional journey is about hothead Shane he basically hits on Charlie’s teacher at a parent teacher conference then he sees her when he’s hooping up with another girl. Will Allison be able to tame Shane once and for all.

The connection between Shane and Allison is unexpected and confusing for both of the characters. Neither is sure of what will happen and where it will go. Are they willing to take the risk??? Can Allison let Shane in? I loved this story about he elusive Shane and Allison. They have a rough ride, but it is well worth the read. A heartfelt and very emotional story that had me from page one!!
