Del and his dragon riders must stop the Qapira to save their people…
The disastrous battle Del led has forced the Qapira to create a new magic stone, but at a deadly cost. With time running out, the only chance for Del and his dragon riders to save their home is to head the Qapira off before they can retrieve the raw materials needed. But he’ll have to do it without help. With Etenia focused on protecting SeaFall, Del alone will have to explore every possibility to save the human world from certain doom.
But the Qapira are relentless in their pursuit of survival, and stopping them for good will surely bring about even more destruction. Is violence the only answer to violence, and is Del ready to pay that price? Or can a street rat who’s risen to be a protector of his people find a different way to save everything he holds dear?
Ava Richardson writes epic page-turning Young Adult Fantasy books. She creates lovable characters and drops them into intricate worlds that are barely contained within your eReader. Ava has written 21 YA dragon fantasy series, including her bestselling series Return of the Darkening and her recent series, Destia's Dragon Shifter War.
She grew up on a steady diet of fantasy and science fiction books handed down from her two big brothers – and despite being dog-eared and missing pages, she loved escaping into the magical worlds that those authors created. Her favorites were the ones about dragons; where they’d swoop, dive and soar through the skies of these enchanted lands.
This is book three and the finale of the Qapira Awakening series and sees Del reeling from the Qapira forces after destroying what he thought was a weapon in their underwater home. The stone he destroyed was in fact holding their magic and allowed them to sleep for a thousand years, to avoid interactions with humans, who they blame for polluting and killing their world and livelihood. Now the Qapira are picking off dragons and dragon riders trying to patrol the coast of Pothena and he is losing younger and younger riders. He set up a dragon rider school in the Old City and is trying to train up all the new dragons and riders, but his relationship with Etenia seems to be faltering, as she concentrates on persuading the council to pay attention to the dangers they are facing. But no one is really willing to listen. Etenia refuses to join him as he struggles with all these loses, believing her own work is too important to be left. They have a crown prince of the Qapira under guard in their prison, but he isn’t eager to talk to any of them, blaming them for starting a war against his people over a thousand years ago! Not that any of this can be found in any of their history records. To save their own lives and those of the rest of the world, Del and his riders must learn what the Qapira are after, in their need to rebuild the stone, and what is might actually be used for. The prince states they don’t trust humans and any promises Del might make, will not be believed by their queen! The researchers manage to find a list of materials that make up this magical stone, but not what each material can really do. Del and his dragon riders must race to each location to hope they can beat the Qapira warriors there. What they find at one village, beside a mine location, leads them to be completely devastated and also leads to more death and grief, as well as guilt for Del and his fellow leaders. It seems that only Del is on a path of wanting peace between the two peoples, even the prince takes time to be persuaded and it is a common person in both of their young lives that finally pulls them together. Del must stop others simply wanting vengeance and play to the utter destruction of both their worlds, as the only chance to stop the Qapira queen and her wish for the humans to be completely eradicated! Mutual destruction might be the only thing that will stop her from carrying out her plan, but it is a long shot and brings its own dangers. This is the twenty-second book from 11 series that I have read/listened to by Ava Rochardson and I would most definitely listen to any book she writes.
Until this book, they have involved humans and dragons and most have taken place either directly with the Torvald dragons or on the periphery and spanning many different generations. This gave that world a richness due to the stories from so many different perspectives. For this book, I really enjoyed how it involves another race of peoples- those living under the water. Despite not listening to the first two books in this series, I was able to gain an understanding quite quickly of what was happening. Although I do not know the backstory, this one hinted on the reasons why the events in this book were taking place. Having had a taste of this world, I now hunger for the rest.
The characters are individually defined with their own personalities and motivations. I became invested in the story quite quickly, and it held my attention throughout. She does not use flowery language to describe the world or its peoples. And I enjoy that. It makes me fee as if I an watching events unfold in my head.
This is the first book I have listened to by this narrator ( Jeanie Talbot ) and I would definitely listen to another. She gives each character a distinct voice and expression. When she narrates you are listening to someone “tell the story” not “read a book”. The story comes to life.
There are no sex scenes or overly descriptive violence. I don’t recall any swearing.

Del, Etenia, and their friends face their most serious threat yet in the series finale. Ava Richardson has managed to ramp up the tension in this book but at the same time has included some lighthearted moments to alleviate the tension.
The story moves at a clip and the bouts of action are interspersed with moments of heartache and soul-searching as Del tries to navigate a safe course for his people. Twist and turns in the story keep the reader's interest, especially when help comes from an unexpected quarter. Mistrust, hatred, anger, and a need for revenge feature throughout the story leading to a horrendous climax. I love the way Ava has unfolded this tale and highly recommend not just this book but the whole series. I hope there is another series to come.

Dragon Peril is the third and final story in what was another fantastic series. Del and Etenia are forced to plan the very survival of their home and the world against the deadly Qapira. Del is the best hero that Ava Richardson has ever written in my opinion. There are layers of vulnerability and strength, but also compassion. I don't want to spoil the ending, but the message of this story and its unlikely friendships is what we all need to hear. It is the story of compassion and the story of taking changes, but most of all it is a story of hope. 5/5 stars.

I immensely enjoyed this particular story that Ava has weaved. It reminds me of a few other stories but only faintly. This is something entirely new to me. From the first book in this set until this last book, I have been wowed. Dragons in peril indeed. Your questions are answered that you had from the last two books. You get to see how this story ends with even more twists. It is an easy an enjoyable read for those looking to relax and enjoy a good tale. Dive in to see what happens to Del and his friends.

And so ends another exciting series by Ava Richardson. But I suppose, I should explain WHY I enjoyed it so much. Firstly, Del, one of the most endearing characters I've read, rising to such heights as his character evolves. He was a street urchin, a thief, distrustful of everyone, especially nobility. His journey has him going from dire circumstances to the director of a magic school! How cool is that! Etenia, a noble young lady, who comes to view the world differently than the rest of the nobility. She strives, and achieves, a semblance of some equality. The Dragons, who were just eggs, have become fierce, loyal companions to their riders. A few surprises are littered throughout, both in the development of characters I'd disregarded as abhorrent, as well as a turn of events that made it even more special, it leaves me feeling fuzzy and warm. I loved how Del wars with himself constantly, is he, isn't he doing the right thing. I honestly enjoyed the fact that they didn't win every battle, it gave a sense of realism. The characters fit into the story like a hand in a snug glove, perfectly! Del and in fact all the characters got under my skin, in this well paced series. A honest to goodness great read with a HEA, which, of course, I adore!

Dragon Peril by Ava Richardson Is by far the greatest story she has written yet. Continuing the main characters story flawlessly from the first two installments in the Qapira Trilogy . Not only is this the final installment in an epic coming of age tail focuses on some of the most difficult challenges a character can face. Dragon Peril shows it all so spectacularly that I could not put it down once I started reading. Now I’m eagerly awaiting to see what the Queen of Dragon riders creates next.

Really enjoyed reading this final book of this trilogy. It started off a little slow but picked up pretty quick. Del and Etonia continue to run the new dragon academy with the threat of the enemy in the sea attacking. Will they be able to hold them off or will they ultimately loose the war and their lives? Read this fantastic final chapter of Del's life trying to leave a place he hates only to end up back there wanting to never leave.

What an amazing series this has been! This book was the exciting conclusion. This final stand was quite the adventure with high stakes, action, danger, and suspense. Del has grown and come so far from where he was at the beginning of this series. Great world building and wonderful characters. The story was emotional with twists and turns I did not see coming or expect. A great fantasy series. I highly recommend it. 5 stars.
What a great ending when Del finds a way to bring peace and all ends well. After a great struggle Del and friends finally find a way to not defeat the Qapira but a way to work together to end the war. I loved the ending and how Ava Richardson weaves a story. I always look forward to another story series and stand amazed how she never lets me down!!!

An absolutley stunning conclusion to the series - well thought out and explosive from the start. I have loved the way that Dels character has developed over the trilogy. A great read for young and old alike.

Not really into the sci-fi adventure stories however adventurous dragons loved it couldn't put it down from beginning to end. LOVED the growth of Del, Etenia and Latham as well as the progress the made as Dragon riders. I look forward to reading more from this author.

I enjoyed this book, the characters, the way the writer chose to end the war--that was a new one to me! Our hero had some growing left to do and it came at a very steep price. I wish it hadn't been quite as steep as it was, but it certainly made the point. I hope future books are a bit more adventure and a bit less death, but this author seems to like a killy-killy style.
In this satisfying conclusion, Del solves the issue with the councilmen, ends the war with the Quapire, and gets married to… Etenia! Then story is wrapped up nicely, and even though many losses occur, the fighting finally comes to a close. This was such a fun series, and I loved the snark and witty dialog.

A MerPrince captured by a Dragon Rider is imprisoned. Can they become friends to save the world.
And where does that leave his romance with the daughter of the town elite? Its a great tale and I enjoyed all the dragons both tame and wild. You must read this worthwhile book to find the answers.
Excellent conclusion. All of the books have been exceptional. The characters are well developed and show growth throughout the books. There is magic, dragons action what more could you ask for when a story is this well developed and written?
This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
I adored this series!!! This last book did not disappoint. The story line was thrilling throughout!! Thank you for hours of entertainment and escape from the real world!
I really enjoyed this story as Del continues to grow into such an admirable person who doesn’t see the hero everyone else does. From his low beginnings, he has risen to each challenge and holds his people together. Even the dragons starting from dragon eggs have grown into loyal, dependable friends to their riders.
As the Qapira are trying to create a new magic stone, Del and the dragon riders must stop them before the Qapira get what they need to complete this task. But he will be on his own in figuring out how to succeed and save the human world. Can he find the answer within himself? Or will he be too late?
The narrator for the audiobook version, Jeanie Talbot, will bring the “reading” experience alive for the listener. She does a good job with the voices to personalize the story and make it easy for the listener to get an accurate impression of what each character is like. It helps to set the mood, familiarize the reader with the characters, and offers a pleasant way to “read” and enjoy the book.
Wow what an adventure, Del is continuing to battle with the Qapira in this final book in this adventure. It isn’t easy bringing a new dragon school back from the past.
The story is fast paced, action packed and with a number of twists I didn’t see coming. It does feel emotional and heartfelt. I did get invested in Dez and I do feel sorry for him and the amount of responsibility he has landed on his his shoulders. However he pushes through and the resulting story is an amazing epic dragon adventure that keeps you hooked in a unique world. I was emotional by the end, it’s a perfect blend of action, tragedy, romance, battles, dragons and overcoming adversity. This is an epic conclusion and is a must read.
