Warring Suns

Rate this book
While living my life as an independent woman in the city, I become the object of a stalker’s obsession.
Then I discovered a talisman of sorts inside my work bag. What’s up with that?
One moment, I’m in my room netflixing and chilling solo, the next I wake up somewhere really hot… without my glasses, of all the worst-case scenarios.
Everything's a blur and it feels like Africa, but the two suns tell me otherwise.
I have no control over this teleporting that keeps happening, and now I find myself caught in the middle of a war between the 3 men from warring tribes...and my stalker.

Will I be strong enough to convince these guys to consider peace in a land that has known nothing but bloodshed, or will this be the last war their people will ever live to see?

***This a parallel universe that runs congruent to Earth.

Courtesy Warning: This book may contain triggers for some. Triggers may include but are not limited to violence, DESCRIPTIVE NON CON BY ONE OF THE GUYS IN THE HAREM, dub-con, bondage, torture, decapitation, themes of war.

I'm a reader, first and foremost. Just like everyone else.

I love books that are just out there. From fluffy to pitch-black darkness. Monsters and aliens to the men who haunt your dreams painting the walls in red.

My love for reading and writing reviews has led me down the road of becoming a writer myself, thanks to the encouragement of others!

I'm not sure where this journey will lead me, but I hope I can breathe life into words the way so many others have done for me when I needed an escape.

This started off ok I was intrigued but then it managed to swiftly lose my interest. I couldn’t warm to the heroine at all and her strange reaction on finding herself in an unfamiliar world and more than once at that was just bizarre, she doesn’t even panic just up and follows the first person to appear not even questioning how she has arrived where she’s at now. She’s very blasé about it all and all the males she meets just instantly fall under her magical spell. Nobody talks about anything important here and all interactions seem very surface level superficial.

She also seems a little bit dense thinking it all a dream every time she wakes even with multiple clues like sand on her feet she doesn’t form the dots she also doesn’t connect it to the strange token she is wearing as a choker round her neck just keeps on looking into eye surgery every time she wakes because duh she didn’t take her glasses into her dream and it was enlightening to her just how vulnerable she was and felt without them, this is what she actually takes away from all of this.

This flits back and forth between both worlds the interactions between Juri and the warrior men who are eventually going to be part of her harem are slightly stilted and definitely lack any basic chemistry and Gary back in Juri’s world is probably the most interesting one out of the whole bunch even in all his dubious rapey psychotic glory. I’m all for a good evil villain keeps things interesting and at least he stood out as being different from the others who all started to blur into one warrior as they were all so similar. Yeah I know Gary is an evil rapist and all that but I like to read some messed up stuff so this was actually a non-issue for me I’ve read much worse than this it’s more the fact that there was just no chemistry or connection with these characters and that was my main reason for the low star rating here.

I found what I read up to with this slightly boring the idea itself was good enough but the execution not so much. I’m not enjoying this and the characters themselves are just not fleshed out enough for me to feel any sort of emotional connection or form a personal attachment to them either.
I’m also sceptical about how this is going to be pulled off successfully if this one is a stand-alone. I’ve read quite far in now and it’s definitely going to be tight to accomplish this if it’s even possible, setting up believable connections not just for Juro but also for the men involved takes time to build and I just can’t see it happening myself. unfortunately, I’m out with this one it’s just not to my taste and the heroine is definitely starting to grate on my last nerve.

Please be advised. Triggers.

Whoa, ok there will be spoilers. Please be advised. (Warning) serious trigger of rape.
I want to point out that this book is seriously messed up. It's like "you" but the stalker is also a rapist, followed by sci-fi fantasy. Now does it sound like these two things shouldn't work together? Well then ur absolutely right. They do not. It's like reading two totally different storylines and ur trying to understand what the author was actually going for. Now I want to talk about the rape scene, please if this is a hard trigger don't continue to read on. The female in this book is being stalked by a crazy delusional stalker/ killer. He is following her everywhere, attacks her by her door trying to force her after a night out, sneaks inside to molest her while she's sleeping, and eventually ties her up and physically raped her. She is not wet, she's crying, and he is hurting her as he forces himself inside her. He ends up choking her till she passes out and she wakes up in another world again. I'm not really going to explain the other world storyline because it's confusing and I still can't wrap my mind around it. Moving on, as she wakes up in this other world after being raped viciously, she then wants to right away have sex with this other guy. Yes, it totally happens. She goes then back to bed and now she's back in her room and she just goes back to work (stalker/ rapist works with her btw) and just hopes it all goes back to normal. Well crazy is still stalking and is hiding under her bed, but she's kinda likes it this time around ( the rape) because he wasn't so rough and didn't hurt her?? Confused? He ties her up while sleeping again and just does w.e he wants. But since he was nice she's kinda ok with this.? Yes ppl! he continues to sneak in her house, tie her up while she is totally out of it and then makes love to her (rape). But then she starts to like it and like him. Yeah it's messed up. This book sure shocked the heck out of me. Another of her guys kinda does this at the end, eats her out while sleeping, is about to be caught doing it by her rapist/ now lover, and decides he won't be stopped and also just shoves inside her. Not much of true consent going on in this book and the rapist ends up becoming part of this odd Harem that makes no sense ,but neither did anything in this entire read.

I’m glad I don’t have to choose!

If I did I think it would be a tossup between a Gary or Gamba. I loved how cocky Gamba was and he needed more scenes for sure. The ending was awesome and everyone knows how obsessed I am with creepy stalkers(had one in real life though and it wasn’t fun)! Anyway read it and weep you won’t find another read like this one!

Trigger warning: Rape! There’s a lot of it in this book. But believe it or not, it’s not the main issue I have with this book. It did, after all, come with non-con warnings. I knew what I was getting into, and yet was still sorely disappointed by everything else.

The concept of traveling to a different world without your glasses, as well as finding yourself romantically drawn to 3 men of warring tribes in said world, is intriguing enough for me to one-click. I loved the added aspect of the stalker in her world and how you never knew if he would be there when she returned or not -- we get his POV (and the other men's POVs) throughout the novel, which I always enjoy.

I'm surprised to see others say there were no trigger warnings -- there definitely was one at the beginning of the book and at the end of the blurb. "Non-con/dub-con" means non-consent/dubious-consent. Please read the trigger warnings of all books before you buy, and if you are unsure of what something means, that's what Google is for. Look it up, and if it's not for you, read something else.

Epic read!
I wasn’t sure how this was going to end as a stand-alone but I was super satisfied where we ended up. First off, I really love Juri as the FMC. I like that she’s not a typical white girl and I love the teensy bits of culture we get from her. Then I also loved the diversity between the guys, from skin color to backgrounds they all felt nicely hashed out and equally lovable... perhaps with one exception. Oh Gary, Gary, Gary.... I don’t even know where to start with this guy. Creepy stalker turned lover? Rapist turned sexual explorer? While I like the idea of a stalker in the harem, I just didn’t feel he was 100% redeemed by the end and I was left scratching head on him for a bit afterwards.
I think that plus some minor editing issues made this into 4⭐️ and not 5⭐️but I really did enjoy the story! Glad I gave it a read.

Knocked it out of the park.

YD LA MAR is an amazing author. This is a RH, why choose romance. It features an h with a stalker (three cheers for Gary. I’m going to go out on a limb and say you either love him or hate him). There’s some non-con. A talisman is dropped in her bag and she flips between plains. You get no more than that. Absolutely none. Go in blind. Don’t cheat, don’t do spoilers, you’ll spoil the fun. Remember that sharing is caring and if you don’t, you could ruin the best thing that’s ever happened to you.
Once again her descriptions put your right in the middle of the story. Buckle up and enjoy the ride. The sex scenes are steamy and hot. There’s some primal claiming, some BDSM and....seriously, just read it!!

A dreamwalk title of visiting another world, I so very love to get lost in these types of Alice in Wonderland rabbit holes. Our Heroine goes places when she sleeps, she meets 3 men of important stature who's clans are at war. Each fall in love with her but she is followed by a 4th......
I enjoyed this for exactly what it was, a hot why choose amongst jealous and protective men, they can be sweet... and tender..... and incredibly full of raging lust, one of them even delusional in their love for Juri, our main girl. All obsessed with her. Sometimes it's just nice to leave your world and live vicariously through a fictional character to be desired and ravaged by four men that push and break boundaries. And there is some very heavy boundary crossing in this.
See if you like it 🖤✨️

I loved this book. What a great, different take on RH, with just the right level of mystery and shenanigans going on. I was kept guessing right through this really unique plot, and found myself falling for every one of the men in it. They're all different enough, that they create a multitude of smaller love stories, while they all have this one vital thing in common. Juri. I absolutely recommend this book, and will definitely be reading it again!

My first time reading RH, absolutely loved it. Strong heroine and Hero's of a warring another place lands. Also throw in a fab psycho work colleague, who is completely obsessed with her. No one will stand in his way, triggers in this is non con. But the "villian" hero stole my heart ❤, redemption. Highly recommend Hea .

Not like anything else

This book took me completely by surprise! I really enjoyed it, though make sure you read the authors note at the beginning first as it explains a lot.
This is an RH standalone book. It’s based partly in our world and partly in a tribal alternate Africa. The tribal element was what made it so fascinating and unique. Really well done.

DNF. I really wanted to like this one, simply because of the premise and fire title. But it was only good at the beginning. I realized it wasn't for me pretty easily after that, the FMC just doesn't connect with me. The plot is boring, imo.

Huh

Ok. I’m not sure I care much for the FMC or for the stalker mc. I was pulled out of the story quite a few times from the grammar. It ended pretty good, I guess.
