Bassist Brand and filmmaker Lexi have both suffered traumatic pasts, but together, they can heal and have a happy future.
THE GRUMPY BASSIST
Brand Kife, bassist for heavy metal band, Viciöus, is known in the metal world as “the man who never smiles.” He has even less reason to smile when he learns that his band’s tour is going to be disrupted by beautiful filmmaker, Lexi Adams, who’s making a documentary about Viciöus. Brand has secrets that Lexi can’t learn.
AND THE BEAUTY QUEEN
Former child beauty pageant winner, Lexi Adams resists her mother’s pressuring her to become a model and is instead determined to be a successful filmmaker. She’s thrilled to film a documentary on one of her favorite metal bands, but Brand Kife is making her work difficult. First by being uncooperative in interviews, then by distracting her with his sinful good looks and aura of mystery. When they give into temptation, Lexi wants to learn about Brand’s traumatic past, but first, she will have to trust him with her own.

Hot chemistry, romance, drama, and perceived betrayal make up this gripping rockstar romance. Heart Throb is the 7th book in this author’s Hearts of Metal series, but it can be read as a standalone. There is some character overlap, but I only read book 1 and had no trouble following along.
I always love a good, dark, broody hero and Brand is just that. The surly bass player of Vicious is accurately known as “the man who never smiles” and Oscar the Grouch. He wants to avoid love and relationships because of his secret, troubled past. He is hot, sexy, and vulnerable and my heart completely broke for him when his troubled childhood was revealed.
I loved Lexi in that she is a strong character and was able to break away from her past to pursue her dream of becoming a film director. She works hard and wants to be respected in her field . She is immediately drawn to Brand as he is to her. The two make a good couple in that they have amazing chemistry and they play on each others strengths and faults.
Heart Throb is an entertaining read that moves at a good pace, thus keeping you entertained until the very end. Both Brand and Lexi are likable characters and are well developed. It was also great to see the other band members of Vicious and Bleeding Vengeance. On a more random note, what many people don’t realize is that there are various types of heavy metal such as thrash metal, sleaze metal, death metal, etc and I loved how the author dove into the different metal genres. I really enjoyed this book and I am definitely going back to read the rest of the series and I hope that this is not the final book in her Hearts of Metal series. I received this book as an ARC and I voluntarily leave this review.
This series will hook you from the beginning! This is the seventh and unfortunately the final book in the series but it can definitely be read as a standalone.
Lexi is well aware of her looks and doesn’t need to be reminded of them every five seconds. At this point in her life she’s more concerned about making a butt-kicking documentary about the metal band Vicious and fulfilling her dream of making a feature horror film. She just needs to stop worrying about (and staring at) the grouch in the band in order to meet her deadline. Brand, the bassist of the band, is that grouch. He’s had a tough childhood and doesn’t let anyone get close. Letting people into his life means giving them a chance to hurt him and he’s tired of that. Not even the model-look-alike disrupting his life is going to change that.
Lexi and Brand were a super cute couple. They both tried to deny their attraction from the beginning and so drama and plenty of laughs ensued when they pretended there was no chemistry between them. Brand might have acted all gruff and indifferent at times but he had some deeps scars that made him act that way. Luckily Lexi saw past that dark exterior and focused more on the man that worried about and cared for her. He made some huge mistakes along the way but he learned his lessons and proved he was capable of love.
I don’t want this series to end because I need more from all of the bands! I loved the way each character was not only depicted as skilled at what they did but also as imperfect, vulnerable, normal human beings. I also appreciate how they went through some ordinary, real life situations because that made them even more real. Like when Lexi was having some bad cramping and everyone kept commenting on her looks instead of how she was feeling… yeah, that right there made me want to hug the author! Situations like that happened in all of the books and man, I loved those little bits in each of the books. You can also tell the author loves the metal rock world by the way she describes it and lets us readers be a part of it. I didn’t think I was a fan but after going behind the scenes of the music I know I will give it a try. This was a fabulous read, with well-developed characters and a fascinating setting. I definitely recommend it.
*I received this book at no cost to me and I volunteered to read it; this is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher**
Brand Kife, Bassist for heavy metal band, Viciöus, the man who never smiles is looking forward to the band's tour. He loves the road, playing, groupies. But this time it's going to be a little different and he is not happy about that. Lexi Adams, a documentary director will be on the road with them to produce a film on the band. He doesn't want strangers watching their every move and he especially doesn't want the beautiful blond learning any of his secrets. Except that he can't seem to get her out of his mind. And as much as Lexi is there only for her career she can't seem to get her focus off of the band's Oscar the Grouch. Two people who are definitely not interested in love or any relationship for that matter, forced together during the tour, unable to deny one another. But a tour only lasts so long and both have careers that are important to them. Is this a road attraction?
There's nothing better than a sexy, brooding, damaged rock star. Brand checks all of the boxes. He's the guy every female knows to stay away from but can't. Lexy is a beautiful, intelligent woman driven by her desire to create something not to be judged as a petty face. They complement each other nicely. She makes him smile. He makes her really live. My heart hurt for young Lexi and young Brand and the damage inflicted upon both by their mother's actions. Each time his walls shot up in panic or Lexi attacked her food, I hurt. Their emotional journey while getting to know one another captivated me.
I love Rockband books. I have enjoyed each book in this series, claiming each new release as my favorite. I feel the same way about this one. Brand is irresistible and being along as he finds happiness thrilled me. That final scene: swoon-worthy!
Brand is the dark brooding bassist for Vicious and has many secrets that he is hiding from his past. Only making music with Vicious gives him any kind of true happiness which has also made him known as the guy who never smiles or better known as Oscar the Grouch…but then again if you had his childhood you wouldn’t be smiling much either. So when indie film maker Lexi enters his world as the person who will be filming a documentary on the band when they are on the next road tour you can imagine that he’d be the last person to cooperate with the strong, talented and beautiful film maker. He needs all of his secrets to stay just that…secrets.
Lexi didn’t have much of a childhood either but that didn’t stop her working her way to the top of her art. The thing that first started breaking down Brand’s walls was their shared love of horror movies and the electric sparks that flew between them anytime they touched.
I loved this rock romance giving me a glimpse into life on the road, overcoming your pasts and a whole lot of steam. This was my first book by this author and I will definitely be checking out more from her.
Thanks to the author for providing a copy of this book vIa Cocktails and Books and Netgalley. The opinions expressed are my own.
I enjoyed this engaging story and the realistic and colorful characters. This is the seventh book in The Hearts of Metal series and each book is a standalone, although all the characters are interconnected. I not only connected with the two main characters, there also were many entertaining secondary characters as well.
This story is about Brand who plays with the heavy metal band Vicious. Brand is not happy when he learns Lexi, an established filmmaker is going to be touring with the band to make a documentary about them. Brand is sullen, hard to get to know and is known as the man who never smiles. He has demons from his past but he isn’t willing to share them with anyone. His only love is playing his guitar; it soothes his tortured soul. Brand is a good guy and he stole my heart as he slowly falls for Lexi. Brand can’t stop himself from watching Lexi as he tries to ignore his strong feelings for her. He is afraid to trust Lexi with his feeling or his secrets.
Lexi is excited to have the opportunity to film her favorite band while they are on tour. She doesn’t understand Brand’s bad attitude toward her and she has a hard time getting him to warm up to her for an interview. Lexi has learned to fight for what she wants as she tries to make it in the film industry. She is tough, kind, understanding and always professional. She won’t let anyone and anything get in the way of her dreams.
As Brand and Lexi get to know each other they realize how much they have in common. They both have successful careers that they love and are highly regarded. I loved getting the behind the scenes look at the band while they are touring. This is an entertaining story about rock stars and the ups and downs of romance and falling in love. If you like rock star stories, I recommend HEART THROB.
Lexi became a filmmaker even though as a child her mother made her into the perfect princess at all the beauty pageants. Lexi was getting ready to do a documentary on her favourite heavy metal band Vicious. She couldn’t take her eyes off the bass player Brand ... could he feel the electricity between them like she could? Brand was the band member that never smiled ... you wouldn’t either if you had his childhood. His band mates didn’t even know the full horror of it, but as he got to know Lexi he felt safe with her and told her all his secrets. Would Lexi and Brand be able to heal each other? Or are they just too broken?
WOW ... what an emotional journey with these two broken souls. This book covered all the emotions ... I laughed a little, swooned more, but my heart broke for the little girl Lexi and the little boy Brand. They were perfect for each other. This is the first book I have read by this author ... and it won’t be my last. I’m gonna have to read this series from the beginning. I’m from western Canada and I love that the author did her research and got the right names to the venues ... and she’s right that bus breakdown would have been in the middle of nowhere.
I received an ARC courtesy of Boroughs Publishing Group through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.
Brand is the handsome bassist of the band Vicious and he’s also grumpy. The idea that Quinn, their lead singer gave the okay for them to be filmed on this tour was aggravating the heck out of him. Quinn was now married to Kinley their guitarist, and that was making Brand even more grumpy. He was never going to fall in love, he swore. Love made you vulnerable and he wasn’t going to allow that to happen to him again. This guy has some sad secrets and I’m already feeling protective on his behalf. Lexi was a beauty queen, not by choice but by mom. The woman was a nightmare who wouldn’t give up, when she finally gave up on that dream she started setting up Lexi with marriageable men because she wants grandchildren. I like Lexi, she’s a strong independent woman and she’s not letting Brand have his grumpy way. When these two got together it was epic. These two were so much alike and had so much in common it made my heart ache. I have to say this story was beautiful, romantic, sad and so much more. This story takes off beautifully, it grabs you from the first chapter and doesn’t let you go. Of all the books in this series that I loved, this book is my favorite of all. I’m giving this book five stars because it’s the highest rating, I’d gladly give it ten stars. This book took me there, I’m highly recommending this book.
A brilliant Rockstar Romance, full of heart. Heart throb is part of a series of books by Brooklyn Ann, but can be read as a stand alone. I havent read all the books in this series and I had no problem with reading this. In this one we meet Moody, Broody Brand the bassist for the band Viscous and trying to fight his attraction to documentary maker Lexi Adams who is making a film about the band. But the secrets Brand carries he doesn't want getting out he needs them to be kept hidden, so tries to keep Lexi at arms length. But Lexi is a strong Woman and has fought her way to be be were she is, but falling for an unapproachable bassist in a rock band was not on her agenda. An unlikely pairing but actually made for one another, they are brought together by their love of horror movies and they both have had a tough upbringing. A spark is lit and the chemistry between them is magnetic and they are drawn to eachother, so staying away becomes harder and harder. I Loved this story. It is such a fantastic read, it was intriguing and captivating, sexy and emotional and kept me eager to know more throughout. I didn't want to put it down even when I had to. A musical Rock star masterpiece, I highly recommend it.

Heart Throb is the seventh and final book in the Hearts of Metal series by author Brooklyn Ann. This story can be read as a standalone romance, although I like to recommend reading a series from the beginning. I enjoy knowing the backstories as I read, and I think it gives me a better foundation. Just know that it's optional, and the story can be read on its own.
In this book, we are back with the band Viciöus, and I love the fact that this series started and is ending with them. Heart Throb tells the story of Brand Kife, who is the bassist for the band, and Lexi Adams, who is the director filming a documentary of the band. Brand has a lot of secrets and is known to not be the friendliest of guys. Lexi has had a tough childhood, and she is determined to succeed through her own efforts.
Heart Throb is a captivating storyline, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Like all of Brooklyn Ann’s books, the characters are well developed, and I had a hard time putting it down! It was full of drama, angst, and some really steamy scenes!
The main female character has ongoing abuse issues from her past that she has yet to resolve. The main male character met her through them being neighbours. He has a checkered past and is trying to re-engage with his sister, who coincidentally is a good friend of the main female character. Very good story with all sorts of twists and turns in it, with high drama, much angst and the start of an attraction and romance. The characterizations are all well done, to the point that the reader feels like they are right there in the same room with the characters. The author details with vivid imagery and sets stages to pull on a reader's heartstrings. The chemistry between the main male and female characters, along with excellent dialogue … bantering back and forth; is highly entertaining.
Well worth a readers taking the time to knock back this novel.
I voluntarily received an advance review copy of this novel via Booksprout and I am leaving an honest and unbiased review. I have no affiliation to this author.
You know how you can tell a good author? When they write about a subject that you know nothing about (heavy metal) and have no real interest and you love the book! I am an ol fart,no interest in heavy metal and yet after I finished reading this I started looking things up:) Along with some of the horror movies referenced. I really enjoyed the story, 2 people, each coming from different back grounds, each having come from a background that was in some form or other various degrees of horrific. All laid out in the music background. I will admit that when Brand really laid it all out, I teared up. I really enjoyed that there was no real game playing between the two, it was how things happen. Thank you Net Galley thank you Book Buzz Net for the arcs and thank you Brooklyn for a great read! All thoughts and opinions are my own and were not solicited.
Brooklyn Ann’s ” Hearts of Metal” series has touched the hearts of thousands of readers. In this seventh installment, she continues to reach her readers. Each of her books delves into the lives of one of the band members, this one is Brand Kife’s story. The surly band member is explained, and the depths of his pain is exposed. As for the 4 star rating, I felt that there was a lack of a connection between Brand and Lexi that has been found between all of the other characters in Brooklyn’s other books. Yes the chemistry was there, but for me, I didn’t feel the actual connection between the two.
DISCLAIMER: I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!
Another wonderful, gritty story in the world of Vicious. This time it was Brand's backstory. His past was full of pain which he kept locked inside, and I felt for him as he revealed it to Lexi. I loved Lexi's spunk to be what she wanted, to move beyond her own unhappy past, and to accept without pity Brand's past. As the story moved along, I became invested in the outcome and cried when it ended. With this story, Brooklyn Ann touched me deep once again with the emotions in the story. I recommend this story and the series.
I received an ARC of this story through Netgalley, and this is my unsolicited review.
Lexi may be model worthy, however she just wants to produce winning documentaries and hopefully a horror movie one day. Brand just wants to play bass, watch and read horror stories, and be left alone. Unfortunately for him, he is part of the documentary of Vicious. Will they both be able to avoid their pasts as they spend more time with each other?
They both have problems having relationships. They go through their lives staying away from having other relationships but then they meet. Even then they try to stay away from each other. Things may just get interesting if they get together. See if they will
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A perfect rockstar romance, my favorite genre. It has everything you could ask for, love, spice and a good plot. Brand and Lexi make a great team with wonderful back histories. I now have to read the first 6 in the series.
Another must read book if you like heavy metal and romance. I always feel like I am actually in the book as one of the characters. Sorry to see that this is the last book of this series.
I loved this book. Brand was perfect and Lexi is perfect for him. They both had it hard but found each other and learned to heal. Brooklyn gave us a real look into them with her writing. We could feel what they felt. It was amazing.
This story was all right. Nothing to get excited about. I did like the concept that both Brand and Lexi had a rough go at childhood, and it bonded them together. That they didn't play cat and mouse with their chemistry.
Loved every page. He was broken and lonely she was like a bright star that caught his attention no matter where she was. They faugh their attraction but love always wins. Loved this series
This was the first one I have every read in this series, was able to figure it all out without starting with the first one. Loved everything about this, will be going back and reading the other ones now.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance read.
A great ending to this series. Gotta love when a woman and man fight their attraction and give in. It's fun being immersed into the world of heavy metal. Rock on. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
This the first book I've read in the "Hearts of Metal" series and let me tell you Brooklyn Ann doesn't disappoint. I couldn't put this book down. Brand and Lexi light it up! I cannot wait to read all of the books in this series! This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.
