Have you ever considered taking risks for the people you love? I assume yes. But at what cost? How much would you be able to risk or to suffer with the only comfort that those people you love are not the ones suffering, that they are safe?
Flightless bird is an explosion of feelings and emotions. You’ll cry, you’ll laugh, you’ll smile… but most importantly, you’ll empathise with the characters.
This story is about Harry and Louis, two boys who meet in one of the most prodigious ballet schools. They bond for the second they meet, to the point that just a few hours after meeting for the first time they move in the same room together.
Everything was going well, until they both started to realise that what they feel is not a friendship, is much more. However, once they admit their feelings and start dating, Harry goes on a business trip with one of the most recognized dancers of the world. Once he comes back he is a totally different person: he doesn’t smile and his eyes don’t shine anymore. He seems like he is constantly soulless. As if the innocence of that little 15 year old boy disappeared in 3 days. Louis didn’t get it. Since that moment, their relationship and their mutual respect started to be in progressive decline to the point that they went from lovers to mortal enemies.
Their paths meet again, but the tension is still there. However, as much as Louis hates him, he still doesn’t really understand the situation: he knows he is missing something very important.
I read this story about a month ago. I can’t describe with words the way my heart felt as I continued reading and starting to get answers to all of my questions.
It’s an amazing book, and it deeply hurts your heart, but even like that it’s such a beautiful story and it’s completely worth it. Every word, every line has a deep meaning. What I also love about this story is the incredible job at creating the characters. Personally, I hate when the only people who have a backstory in the book are the main characters, especially when they underestimate the potential of other characters. In this book every character has a backstory that explains their personality and actions. I feel like without them not only the main characters would be lost, the thread of the story would too.
Lastly, I’d like to say that the book has a lot of references to ballets, dance moves… You can really tell that the author spent time doing research and that she knows what she is talking about.
After this review, if you haven't read it yet, here are some trigger warnings you might want to know before getting to read the story:
-Multiple explicit sexual violations.
-Explicit sexual scenes.
-Bad language
Here's one of my favourite quotes:
“It's about choosing that person during your hardest, most excruciating times, to pick them over and over whilst drowning in anything that can drown you, to know that if you are going down, you only ever want them by your side.”
