Medicine Man (Heartstone Series book 1) – Simon & Willow’s story No, Willow Taylor shouldn’t be attracted to Simon Blackwood at all. Because she’s a patient and he’s her doctor. Her psychiatrist. The medicine man.
Dreams of 18 (Heartstone Series book 2) – Graham & Violet’s story You don’t go around kissing your best friend’s dad, do you? Even though that’s all you ever dream about.

Some of Saffron A. Kent's best works to date! Dreams of 18 is one of my all time favorites! (5 Stars!) And Medicine Man is another favorite 5-star read.
Dreams of 18 This was my very first Saffron Kent book over a year ago, and one that I return to often-and a story that opened my eyes to the magic of Saffron. Age gap is my all time favorite trope- and Saffron is truly the queen. The illicit, the taboo, the unrequited angst, ALL the longing and nuanced conflicting emotions. She writes it like no one else- and this book is the perfect introduction to her charm.
From the opening pages, you know this is going to be a gripping, seductive, and chaotic story. Young Violet- a quirky wallflower, old in soul but young in age, is in love with her new neighbor. NO, not the boy next door turned best friend, rather she’s in love with his FATHER, the deliciously beastly Graham Edwards. After years of pining and fantasizing, one reckless night on her 18th birthday destroys them all. Time has passes, and Graham and Violet’s worlds look radically different. Violet just wants to make amends- but still finds her passion for the grizzly man consuming, and Graham is bitter and angry, but can’t deny that this unusual girl sparks something in him. The baggage of the past and the taboo of their age gap isn’t the biggest barrier though, it is their own walls.
And that is what I love about Saffron Kent- she takes the taboo, makes it erotic and tintilitating, but utlimately it is all a catalyst to forcing characters to confront their own emotions, their owns hearts. You FEEL her stories, because her characters are pushed to their extremes with each other, forced to examine themselves. All because a fated, soul-mate force, one that starts unusually, won’t let them deny it any longer. Grant has to let go, has to forgive, has to open his heart and realize he’s worthy of love and unworthy of the unfair burden placed on him. And Violet has to refind herself, has to grow, she has to heal, too.
I just loved Violet’s journey- I felt her pain, her longing, her fragileness as it were my own. But she’s also so tenacious- she has a bravery that I admire, a bold vulnerability that makes her so endedaring and magnetic. But she’s so alone- an unfound gem. She just wants to matter to someone- to be seen and cared for- and truly, don't we all?
And the Beast, the gnarly, delicious Mr. Edwards. He’s such a yummy alpha- brooding, stunted by his anger, demanding. But he’s also protective, self-sacrificing, and so loving- once we see his heart unfurl. He’s just a grumpy, wounded bear- and we feel for him because he bore a lot of the fallout, and was perhaps destroyed the most. And, like Violet, he’s isolated, weighed down by guilt and unhappiness. But unlike her, he’s resigned, defeated.
There is so much angst, that melancholic and aching longing that Saffron does so well. But there is also such a tender intimacy to their connection- it feels heady, deep, the kind of chemistry that wraps around you. There’s a magic in that these two, as opposite as they may be, as rocky and toxic as their beginning was- a magic that stems from the ways in which they help each other heal, but also in the ways in which they become the missing piece in one another. Violet enables Graham to be someone’s hero, and he helps our wilted Violet bloom. I love how they love each other- how Graham cares for her, how Violet never gives up.
One of my favorites of Saffron’s- and an all time favorite in general. Provocative, emotional intense, completely more addictive with every page.
California Dreamin': 4 stars Fans of the Heartstone crew got a peek at the long awaited Dean and Fallon love story in the previously published novella in the Mixtape Anthology (“Guys My Age). This is a revised and expanded version of that story. I did not read the original novella, so I can’t juxtapose content since this version is the only once I’ve read.
If you’ve read other stories (Medicine Man, Dreams of 18) this story focuses on the 18 year old daughter of our Iceman Simon and his queen Willow from Medicine Man. We got a glimpse of her in the end of their book- and this explores the little nugget of foreshadowing we saw in their story- the 3 year old Fallon’s obsession with the 17 year old boy, Dean, her parents had taken under their wings. Now 18 and in college, she’s struggled and pined after Dean, and she’s engineered a 5 day road trip home to NY alone with Dean, now 32, in hopes of leveling about her feelings and convincing him to love her back. Steamy age gap taboo ensues, delicious and sigh-inducing romantic proclamations, and family tensions as Dean and Fallon begin to explore and confront their emotions for each other.
I wish we’d gotten to know Fallon and Dean a bit more- unlike our other couples, they have a long and deep backstory, one that we’re just forced to accept- this dives in with love and proclamations pretty fast, and outside of their interest to each other and a bit of their character history, I’m not sure I fully got to know their complexities in the way I felt like we knew Willow and Vi. The romance is sweet, however- even though we have very little resistance and push pull since the story is an expanded novella. Dean is protective and caring, and I think I might love him the most of the Heartstone men (sh, don’t tell Graham)- but again, we get less time with him. There are some deeply beautiful romantic lines in here- Fallon and Dean have some very poetic proclamations of love, and as always Saffron has some shrewd observations subverting our conceptions of love- “SOmetimes love hurts because it’s bursting at the seams.”
Not only is this a novella but a good chunk of our story is devoted to other characters- we get a much appreciated POV from both Willow and Vi, which let’s us check-in on our last couples. Willow’s moves the plot- Vi’s does not and feels unnecessary but I liked it because their my favorite couple. We also have some end of book focus on Brendan, Fallon’s little brother, and his interest, Rosie, Vi’s daughter. All these tidbits are great but take what already little time we have in a novella length from Willow and Dean- and we only really get to explore them coming together and not at all them being together. Even though what we have is adorable, charming, emotional, and HOT.
I know some will say Saffron’s age gap stories are starting to feel formulaic- in fact, I think she subversively calls it out here- Fallon and Deans’s relationships is deeply similar to her parents, which Willow herself calls out: same age gap difference, Fallon suffers from clinical depression and has to manage her mental illness, Dean seems icey and cold and resistant at first and then is on fire for his lady. Dreams of 18 had some similar devices-all involve young (innocent) girls struggling with trauma and mental health challenges pining for and then declaring love for a much older man that is stoic and closed off, aggressively pursuing him, him folding pretty easily, and then much of the focus on is on letting the dust settle. But, she’s perfected this formula and this trope- it draws me in every time- the taboo, the seemingly fragile woman finding her inner strength and sense of self through the exploration of love, and the hardened older guy crumbling for a petite little teen. I am here for it- and at least you know what you’re gonna get. I love the age gap trope, and while I think there might be some complexities to explore, it is refreshing to see characters openly struggling with their mental health- and the men aren’t the “cure” but rather supports as the women find their footing. And, seems like she’s setting us up for Rosie/Brendan coupling in the future- not an age gap, should be interesting if she tells that story. Enjoyed it, just still want more!
Medicine Man - Review: “𝙈𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙗𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙙. 𝙇𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙚. 𝙈𝙮 𝙗𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙥𝙤𝙞𝙨𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙙 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙙𝙤𝙩𝙚.” - Where do I even begin writing this review on such greatness? Saffron’s writing is absolutely PHENOMENAL. I went through all the emotions reading this story. Her words are so beautifully poetic and eloquent. This is my first time reading a Doctor/Patient Romance and I was completely consumed through all the 516 pages, I cannot recommend Saffron and this story enough.💚 - Willow is such a mesmerizing strong heroine. I love her and her strength and vulnerability. She is struggling with her mental health and is admitted into a psychiatric hospital after a incident on her 18th birthday. Willow doesn’t belive she should have ever been admitted into the hospital, she’s fine. That is until she meets her new doctor Simon Blackwood. He makes her see and feel things that she has been burying deep inside her and now those feelings are coming out in full force. “𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚’𝙨 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙨 𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙨𝙚𝙚 𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙢𝙚. Simon has own inner demons to face but he keeps everything bottled up inside. When he meets/sees Willow for the first time she makes him feel things he hadn’t allowed himself to feel. “𝙔𝙤𝙪’𝙧𝙚 𝙢𝙮 𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩. 𝙔𝙤𝙪’𝙧𝙚 𝙢𝙮 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙥𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮. 𝙄𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙩𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙨𝙢𝙚𝙡𝙡.” - Once again Saffron writes the best sex scenes, and I loved how this book revolves around Mental Health💚 - 5+⭐️
Dreams of 18 - Review: “𝙁𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙬𝙤 𝙮𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙨, 𝙄’𝙫𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙. 𝙄 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙮𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙝𝙞𝙢. 𝙄 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙮𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜. 𝙄 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙮𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙝𝙞𝙢. Age Gap✔️ Forbidden Love✔️ Sexual Chemistry✔️ Possessive Man✔️ Sex scenes that burn your kindle down and make you hot and bothered?✔️Not only can this author right in such a way that consumes you where you can’t put it down, but she throws in angst, passion, and beautiful tender moments that leave you breathless, and her sex scenes.... you guys I have never read something so hot. Her writing style is just PHENOMENAL, and I can’t recommend this book enough or this author. Saffron knows what we want and she freaking delivers. - Violet has always been different, she doesn’t care what anyone thinks of her and she does what she wants. She’s been alone most her life even though she lives with her sister, mother and step dad. But they never notice her, they don’t even know when her birthday is and her mom tried to get her aborted. So Violet has adapted, she likes being on her own she’s used to it. So when a new family moves in next door and she sees the new gorgeous man who is definitely a lot older than her she can’t help but feel this weird attraction to him. Something about him is calling to her, and now she can’t stop imagining all the things she wishes she could do/say to him. That is until she befriends his son, and now she must avoid him at all costs because you don’t crush on your best friends dad. - Mr. Edwards (Graham) was one of the best hero’s I have read in a long time. He was everything, and being 18 years older he knows he never should have even looked at Violet his sons bestfriend, so he pushes those thoughts aside. Except when Violet pushes him past his boundaries and his control slips. - 5+⭐️
California Dreamin' - Review: “𝘼𝙨 𝙨𝙝𝙚 𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙬 𝙪𝙥, 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙩 𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙬 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙝𝙚𝙧. 𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙮, 𝙞𝙩 𝙩𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙣 𝙚𝙙𝙜𝙞𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣. 𝙄𝙩 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙢𝙚 𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙨𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨. 𝙆𝙚𝙚𝙥 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙨𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙨, 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙡𝙖𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙚𝙧, 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙢𝙮𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛.” - Saffron strikes again with a beautiful Novella featuring Dean and Fallon. Fallon is the daughter of Simon and Willow from Medicine Man and can I just say how absolutely wonderful it was to catch up with Simon and Willow again! Both are just absolutely outstanding parents can Willow please be my mom!? This story was heartwarming, beautiful, and mesmerizing. I can’t even begin to describe what Saffron makes you feel. - Fallon has been in love with Dean ever since she could remember. She proposed to him when she was just 3 years old and Dean was 17. All thought it was sweet and that her crush would soon fade away those people couldn’t be more wrong. All throughout her life Fallon hasn’t been able to let go of her crush, this is so much more then a crush it’s all consuming the way she feels for Dean. He’s her bestfriend, her confidant, and he is an absolutely beautiful man inside and out. Now Fallon is 18 and Dean is 32 She chose a university all the way in California to follow Dean and be closer to him. Now she just needs to convince him they are meant to be together and what better way then on their cross country road trip back home. - I am obsessed with Dean. The way he would always try to fight his feelings towards Fallon was so heartbreaking. You could feel the chemistry between these two flying off the pages and I was literally screaming Dean just kiss her already!!! Fallon was feisty, confident and adorable. I loved how she was ready to fight for Dean and show them how they are meant to be together. - 5+⭐️
This decadent collection contains three books that I simply adore. If you are a fan of age gaps, intense emotion, sizzling heart, heart tugging angst and drama these reads are an absolute must! Included:
Medicine Man: I just loved this book and everything about it. With a powerful emotional storyline that beautifully blends steamy romance with heart aching poignancy. Willow and Simon are an amazing couple. Both strong and yet both broken. This book is a forbidden romance (patient/Doctor, (younger woman/older man) but it is also so much more. It deals with the sensitive subject of mental illness in a way that provides a look into something that is complex and so complicated in a relatable and eye-opening way. Willow's struggle with her illness, accepting who she is and why she does the things she does are balanced perfectly with all the other things that make Willow so perfect. Simon is a man that is wounded and broken in his own way and together they fit so perfectly together, that honestly, I did not ever doubt that they were meant for each other. There is drama, angst, humor, sweetness, love, tenderness, heartbreak and hot passion blended into a plot that captures and holds your attention so easily. I do hope that many of the secondary characters get their own books.
Dreams of 18: This was a book that astounded me with its beauty, crushed my heart with its emotion and had my temperature spiking with its intense heat. As a big fan of the forbidden romance trope, I was very excited to read this book and trust me it did not disappoint. In fact, it really blew me away. I found the complexity of the characters, their thoughts and the situation they find themselves in to be immensely involving and gripping. So much so that, I was stealing every single second I could to read from my work, my family and my sleep. Violet and Mr. Edwards are flawed, imperfect people that are perfect for each other. There was never one single doubt in my mind about that. My heart truly ached for both of these characters. The roads that they traveled were painful and hard going and they had earned many scars and wounds along the way. For me, this couple's relationship was about so much more than physical intimacy. Don't get me wrong there is plenty of that and it is all scorching steam and dirty talk; but I thought the other things they shared were just so much more important. The deep emotional connection, the powerful need they had for each other, the strength that he brought out in her, the confidence he gave her and the softness, sweetness and the ability to dream she brought out in him. In all fairness, I will say that this is one of those books that you are going to swoon for or be turned off by. For me it worked, for others I'm sure it won't. It is a age gap romance that has that spark of unrequited attraction flare between sixteen-year-old Violet and her best friend's thirty-four-year-old father. Just as a note: there are no interactions of ANY kind that happen between these two until Violet is eighteen. I loved every second of this wonderful read that is in my opinion so much more than you would expect. This angst filled read simply stole my heart.
California Dreamin': I have so much love for Fallon and Dean. I loved their short story when it was first released in the Mixtape anthology, and I love it even more that it has been expanded and released as a standalone novella. As a card-carrying forbidden romance junkie, this couple checks so many boxes for me and Fallon and Dean are quite simply, easy to adore and root for. Their story is sweet, steamy, poignant, emotional and just plain beautiful. Trust me when I say you will smile, you will laugh, you will cry, you will swoon, and your heart will melt!! I loved the extra content that was added to this book, loved spending time with so many beloved characters and I loved getting a peak into the future of these characters and I am so incredibly thankful that the author penned such a wonderful treat! However, I had hoped this would be the full-length book that this couple so richly deserves and sadly this is not that. It is wonderful, but I'm still left craving more. Maybe I'm just greedy but I choose to blame the author for creating such amazing characters that they become an obsession!! LOL
Ahhh three of my favorite books in one place, this collection couldn't get any better. Saffron is the queen of forbidden romance so if you love that trope like me you need these books in your life ASAP!!!
MEDICINE MAN - Doctor/Patient
This book was another amazing and intense forbidden story by SAK. Here we have a psychiatrist and his patient tumultuous love story.
It all started with a little roof top incident that gets Willow admitted to Heartstone Psychiatric Hospital. In her view there was nothing wrong with her and she didn't need to be treated. But now here she is stuck in this place where her days are long and boring until the day Dr. Simon Blackwood arrives.
Their relationship is unethical and wrong but oh so right. They just complement each other. I loved how they didn't fall in love and then everything magically got fixed, no, they had their particularities and struggles and it didn't just went away. But they supported each other, and were always there to help, comfort and then to move on together. Both were strong character but together they were and impenetrable force.
"My medicine man is curing me, purifying my blood, vacuuming the illness out of me. With his mouth, his kisses, he’s drinking down all my poison. That thing inside me that gives me blue eyes. He’s making me cleaner, healthier. He’s purging me. He’s making me happy. The thing that’s as elusive to me as love."
DREAMS OF 18 - Best Friend's Father
Violet and Graham's story was messy, taboo, intoxicating but so real and relatable. Their chemistry was so scorching and intense. I liked that this book wasn't super angsty so we get to really know the characters and their relationship. Seeing them bloom into a couple little by little was amazing.
There is just something about the forbidden fruit that attracts me so much, I love the doubt, the reluctance, the intensity, the stolen moments. In those sort of stories I can really feel the love and devotion because when a couple decides that they are going to be together even thought everyone may be against them you know it's true love or else it wouldn't worth it.
I loved both characters in this book and I could relate with them so much. I liked that Violet was sure of herself and she went after what she wanted, she fought for them not really caring if they weren't supposed to be and I applaud her for that. She was so strong and her love for him never wavered. Graham was a recluse full of self-loathing. He could be so mean to her in a quest to keep her away but truly he was a possessive, protective, romantic man and I so wish to be Violet so I could get some of all that goodness lol.
This book was another captivating story that I never wanted to end.
"I’ve always, always been in love with him. Since the beginning. Since the very first moment. The very first sight."
CALIFORNIA DREAMIN' - Childhood Best Friend
Since I read Medicine Man I was intrigued with Dean and after reading the epilogue I was obsessed with little Fallon and her infatuation with the older Dean and I wanted their story so bad so when it came out in an anthology and later in a separate novella I was beyond excited.
Since Fallon was little Dean was everything she cared about and she wasn't going to let him slip through her fingers even though he was a bit reluctant to admit his feeling because of their age gap. So when she turns 18 and a chance arrives to be closer to him she takes it.
This was an emotional, sweet, amazing fast-paced story. I loved Fallon and Dean and I was so glad we got to catch up with some of my favorite characters. I do wish this was a full-length book but only because Saffron's writing is perfection and I could keep reading about those characters forever.
“I didn’t know that I wasn’t alone. That meeting with your dad was a stroke of fate. I had no idea that your dad finding me would lead me to find you. A girl who was born for me. A girl I watched grow up. A girl with so much strength and light and immense fucking love. Every day you stole a piece of my heart, Fallon. Every fucking day for as long as I can remember until there was nothing left in my chest. Until all my heart was gone. It was gone and it belonged to you.”
This collection is an absolute blast: emotions that send you on a roller coaster ride, characters so vivid that you feel like you can touch them ... in short, this series is in a class of its own!
MEDICINE MAN
It is gut-wrenching to read about Willow’s fight for sanity. Her history is told in tiny little steps … She is mature and wise beyond her age and comprehends Simon on a level that he does not want to believe in … And it is equally heart-breaking to read about Simon’s experiences in life! Both protagonists are complex characters, not always easy to comprehend in their acting and trains of thought. And then there is this attraction between patient and doctor that is forbidden on every level thinkable … All these parts taken together make this plot nail-biting thrilling and hold a high risk for both characters to shatter to pieces … The topic is a very sensitive one, very well researched and handled in an excellent way by Ms. Kent. Her describing of the daily struggles of patients with mental diseases comes as close to reality as you can get without experiencing them yourself. This book is impressing with its complexity, and it is one of those books you will not forget anytime soon after you finished reading. And it is one of those books you will come back to and read it time and again, experiencing it all anew and even discover new aspects while doing so!
DREAMS OF 18
O . M . G ! ! ! Where do I start praising this epic retelling of Beauty and the Beast? I love Violet with all her insecurities and anxieties, with all her brokenness and rambling, the way she looks at life, all naïve and innocent yet wise beyond her years. I love Mr. Edward/ Graham / Mr. Strawberry Man with all his brawny, growling, beastly sexiness, his selflessness, his caring for everyone else except himself ... I love these characters more than I can say. They are so deep, struggling so hard for a slice of happiness. They are so real and vivid, they seem so much taken from real life … They are so perfect for each other, banishing the loneliness they feel, and complement each other so perfectly ... I loved how carefully and thoroughly Ms. Kent researched the topic of anxiety and panic attacks, and how amazingly and gingerly she intertwined and addressed it in this novel … one of the filthiest and yet most romantic novels I have ever read. This book is pure perfection and another testimony to the extraordinary talent of Ms. Kent!
CALIFORNIA DREAMIN’
This romance has already been published in the Mixtape Anthology under the title GUYS MY AGE. It was a novella then. This is the revised, re-titled and EXPANDED version. The characters are very complex. Fallon has mood swings, suffers from clinical depression, and Dean is the one who lightens her mood, always has. He protects her, is caring ... he's just purrfect, the guy you'd want to have by your side in real life. And he's fourteen years older, way too old for her, or at least that's what he tells himself. Fallon has been in love with him since she was a tiny tod, and now that she's an adult, she has to convince him that she's not a child anymore, that she's grown up and knows what she wants and needs ... Holy Sweetness, this story is amazing, infuriating because of the stubbornness of the characters, elevating and scorching hot. It's so intense that I felt what they feel ... every single emotion ... It made me hold my breath not only once. And the side characters ... Holy Molly!!! I'd love to read more about Brendan, and about Rosie, too! Ms. Saffron's writing is unique and in a class of its own! Even now that I have just finished this read, I am already longing for her next book!
This is a boxset - currently on a great sale! - that features Medicine Man, Dreams of 18 and novella California Dreamin' by Saffron A Kent. I have my previous reviews from when I read these books individually below:
Medicine Man I loved the forbidden aspect of this love story, and it was super hot as well. They don’t really get to know a lot about each other on page, but somehow I didn’t care, I was just swept away by their chemistry. Also, as someone who struggles with depression/anxiety, I really found some of the ways heroine Willow described how it felt for her just perfect, words I’ve never been able to figure out to explain to others myself. This one is right up there with my favorite by this author, The Unrequited, and I never thought anything she wrote could beat that for me. Happy to find I’m incorrect about that. 5 ⭐️
Dreams of 18 There is just something about this author's writing that really speaks to me - I'm not a huge highlighter when reading but when reading Ms. Kent's books I always highlight several sentences that make me feel like she plucked emotions from inside me and turned them into gorgeous words that actually make sense. I really related to Violet's anxiety and some of the lines regarding that were absolutely perfect. Age gap is one of my very favorite tropes, and while this one was nowhere near as far as I like to go on my taboo meter, it still satisfied what I look for in those tropes for the most part. The story handled what was essentially instalove in a unique way to make it not read like one. I'm still not quite sure how I feel about that overall, but it is certainly better than the traditional instalove stories which I am not a huge fan of. Graham and Violet's fought-for love was super sexy and very romantic. They join a catalogue of characters by this author that always stand out in my memory. Looking forward to who she gifts us with next. 4 Stars
California Dreamin' What a treat it was to read about Dean and Fallon! I've been wanting a story for them since I read the ending of Medicine Man (MM) so this was a special read for me. It is a novella (or short book, not really sure on the exact specifications), so it doesn't have a super deep story but nevertheless I still felt their deep connection to each other. I love the age gap trope and in this particular one I especially loved the parallel's between Dean and Fallon's romance and Simon and Willow's (from MM). It was delightful to see the latter couple again, as well as Vi and Graham from Dreams of 18. It's not necessary to read those books first but this story meant to much more to me because I have. It definitely made my heart glow with love for these characters. As always, Ms. Kent's words just speak to me, and I remain ever eager for what she gifts us with next. 4 Stars
HEARTSTONE SERIES COMPLETE COLLECTION (All 3 books boxset) By Saffron A Kent!
*MEDICINE MAN Saffron A. Kent, in writing MEDICINE MAN, has written the Ultimate Forbidden Romance. It is pretty straight-forward if Willow Taylor is a patient at Heartstone Psychiatric Hospital, and Dr. Simon Blackwood is her doctor. Her psychologist. That any relationship is crossing the forbidden line. Also the no-touching policy is just about thrown out the window. Maybe not my best choice of words, as we don't want anything thrown or anyone to jump out a window.
*DREAMS OF 18 I have read every book that Saffron A. Kent has written. So after reading the blurb of her DREAMS OF 18, I knew I would be reading this book. This book was full of angst. And with an 18 year age gap, all so very taboo. Well, you can't help who you fall in love with, and be assured that nothing happens between Mr. Graham Edwards and his young neighbor Violet Moore, until she reaches the legal age of 18. It all started with a kiss!
*CALIFORNIA DREAMIN' This is Fallon Blackwood and Dean Collins love story. Fifteen years ago, Fallon asked a boy to marry her. She was three and he was seventeen. She didn't realize that was a big age difference. She didn't know that he was older or what it meant even if he was. A boy of seventeen was her best friend. He made her happy and made her sadness not so sad. Dean Collins was the love of her life. Until he was no longer there for her. He was one of the best prosecutors in L.A. And very far away from her. She could not stand being that far from him, so decided to risk it all to attend college in California.
I loved this book so much. I have read and listened to the audiobook several times. All the characters in this book are unique and endearing but flawed. This is a beautifully intense love story that deals with mental health issues which are handled magnificently by this extremely talented author. I automatically one click everything she writes. She never disappoints. I give this book 10/10 stars.
Dreams of 18
This book has everything you would ever want in a romance. I love age gap romance and this story is perfectly romantic and steamy. I adore it. I was captivated from the first page. I fell in love with Violet and her quirky innocence. Graham is so grouchy and gruff but so sexy. I loved them together. Saffron Kent has an elegant way of story telling. I can’t recommend this book enough.
California Dreamin’
Saffron Kent can write an age gap romance like no other. This story was beautiful and so very steamy. I love these characters and was thrilled to see Willow and her man as parents. Loved this book and devoured it in one sitting! A must read!
She had the "Roof Episode", so now she is in Heartstone, where she hates everyone, especially "The Ice King". That is until she realized he actually saw her.
#2 Dreams of 18
Another older man, younger woman love story. It's a tale that enthralls, and yet, you can see the danger the young woman could be in. Yet, she's not in danger from the man that she calls Beast. It's the busybodie, who encounters them, and believes they have a right to say in someone else's lives, that threatens her sanity. Yes, age is just a number, and love comes in different ways. What we have to learn that dreams are an essential part of life, and not to give up on them.
#3 California Dreamin'
Dean was a lonely boy, befriended by Simon Blackwell on the day of Dean's mother's funeral, Medicine Man. Fallon had a crush on Dean at the age of 3, to the stage she asked him to marry her, although he was 14 at the time. Anyway, Fallon is now 18 and she has convinced Dean she is doing a road trip back to New York, from California. Off course, he won't let go on her own.
🇺🇸 I love these 3 books, but I must confess, my favorite is “California Dreamin’” Any SAK book is amazing and I have read every single one of her books, 2 times minimum.
