He had the time of his life. Then it turned into a nightmare.

Can you imagine waking up, looking around and having no clue where you are? You have quick flashes of memory showing a crazy, out of control night... Then you recall one man asking 'Did you have the time of your life?'... This is a fast-paced, dark story, a man who loves his wife and children finds himself in a race against time, along the way he keeps seeing a woman and man from that fateful night, asking for a large amount of money for his 'night', and showing some very gory photos and threatening even more! An excellent look into what people will do to make money off of someone else, as a good, honest man into a little insanity, he is so trying to keep this horrible situation he finds himself in from his wife and family... You are caught into his nightmare right away, hurrying to turn the pages to see what happens... I received an ARC of this story from the author, Mike McCrary, and I thank him for this quick nightmare we see happen, and I am also able to put my thoughts in this review, hoping others will read this thrilling book!
Mike McCrary has managed to rob me of what was supposed to be a relaxing day off, and I loved it. Great book. So much tension, I had to stop and remind myself that this was happening to Davis, and not me. I couldn't have been more involved in this story, unless I was living it out myself. Completely believable characters and reactions, make this a stellar read. Good one!
Ohhhh Lort this was an intense fast read. I could not put it down for one minute. I wanted to know what was going to happen. I sorta had a feeling who was behind it. But it was sooooo good..
This is my first time reading anything by this author and I was not disappointed. This book is Fast paced and very well-written. Oh and lets not forget it is very twisted. The story kept me interested from beginning to end. I found myself quickly turning the pages to see how he was going to get out of it all. I also found myself unable to put it down. The characters are rich and so well crafted. The thrills and mystery that McCrary develops with the plot and characters will keep you glued to the pages. My heart raced in places with excitement - and towards the final pages. And The ending wow that was a shocking suprise. I am looking so forward to reading my next book by Mike McCrary. I highly recommend it.
Davis Briggs takes a business trip to Los Angeles to try to sell his exciting new product to wealthy clients. He fails, but meets a couple of L.A.'s beautiful people at the bar in a high-end hotel. What happens from there turns his life upside down. This is an intense story that tests every fiber of Davis' being, and keeps the reader on edge. It was a terrific story. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because the book needed a far better proofreader. Too many articles are missing from sentences, and after a while this becomes extremely bothersome to the reader.
This book was so good. It showed the emotions involved when you keep secrets from your spouse. The guy travels to L.A. an d gets into a mess. Then the people involved come back to him wanting money to keep the secrets. Of course, they drain him dry and the threats escalate. There are many twists and turns and he runs with his family, but can't outlast them. Secrets get bigger and lies even bigger. Then end is surprising so it is a well-written mystery with plenty of highs and lows. The emotions that everyone suffers from the lies and secrets are well revealed and you kinda sympathize with him for the mess he is in and suffering he goes through. Recommend this read very well.
A man out of his depth, was sad to read, too sad to finish about a downward spiral. DNF, scan to end. Purchased this edition on March 6, 2023, from Amazon for free.
Relentless - I was clueless about the storyline, so I really didn't want to read Relentless after I read the first couple of chapters. I don't care about LA, designer clothes and fancy cars; you got em, great but so what. But I've read a few books by Mr. McCrary and love his work, so I hung in there. Glad I did because the pace picked up, the plot turned intriguing and suspenseful, and the characters ranged the gamut from weak to pure evil, with plenty of manipulation from several directions. I figured out a few things, except one thing: what was actually wanted in the end by the bad guy. I want to say more, but I don't do spoilers; this is a review, not a book report. Another well written, well thought out story. 5*
Getting Ugly - Action packed, fast paced suspense with interesting characters. The plot kept me immersed in the story. Ugly is a fun, good character. Well written, but vulgar language happy.
Steady Trouble #1 - Action packed, fast paced with an interesting plot and characters. Of the three books, I've read, this is the best, with Getting Ugly second (fun, good character). Cowtown, yes; A-Town?, must be near NYC or Chi-Town. Standalone, but there's definitely more in the future. Well written with believable characters and plot. Do want to see more of Teddy. This book is different from the Remo series, but just as enjoyable.
Steady Madness #2 – Picks up where Steady Teddy ended. Another well written, action-packed, suspense filled book. The characters from Steady Teddy #1 have growth and you either love em or hate em. You’re definitely rooting for the good guys even when they’re bad. Even the new additions are interesting. There’s a surprise at the end of the story that’s heartwarming, actually a couple of em. I had to laugh when I saw BAD WORDS INC. on the title page, since Mr. McCrary is always reviewed for his vulgar language. He has a sense of humor as you can see in his books. I volunteered to review his books many books ago. He is one of my favorite new authors.
Remo Went Rogue #1 - Action packed, fast paced suspense with a cast of characters typical of this type of novel. Cut n Shoot ain't that little any more. Well written, but too much vulgar language, although that's typical for these characters. If you like Elmore, you'll like this book.
Remo Went Down #2 - Great! Another action packed, fast paced thriller full of suspense, characters that keep getting better and a twisting plot. Better than Rogue, still with the vulgar and the violence works. I couldn't put the book down, it wouldn't let me until I finished. Do read Rogue first, and then hang on for the ride with Down.
Remo Went Wild #3 - I couldn't stop belly laughing or put the book down. The descriptions are just poetry, vivid. Remo 3 is the best of the lot, so far. Well written, intense, suspense filled, with humor over the top. Mr. McCrary has a good thing going here with Remo. It seems he's cut the vulgar language some, but what's there, just belongs - these are real thugs who haven't been to church in awhile, if ever. LOL. (Since in the Amazon reviewing community, non Christians and real people curse.)
The characters are getting stronger with each book and the plot still remains twisting and engaging. Any more folks, and we're talking spoilers. I'll let you discover the adventure on your own. With over 50K books in my possession, not counting the local library, I don't reread many books. When Remo Went Berserk comes out, I'll be rereading the first three just to get into the mood to savor Berserk. McCrary goes on my bookshelf with Ludlum, my favorite author.
Remo Went Off #4 - Wow, Remo's story comes to a close - maybe? This book is just as action packed, fast paced and intriguing as the previous volumes. Well written plot; realistic characters; realistic and appropriate dialog; just the items that make a good story.
You must read these books in order to get the most out of this series. But if you can't, don't let it stop you from reading this or any other book. Once you get started, you'll have a difficult time putting these books down. Some folks will get offended by the vulgar language, which ranges in frequency usage thorough out the books, but the characters are criminals and this is their norm. I contacted the author to review his books.
The story of an ordinary man, Davis, trying to get his new software program taken seriously by different companies he is visiting in LA, to sell it to. He is a family man with two young daughters and a wife he wants to have no more worries about money and paying the bills. His partner in their small company, Todd, is the real salesman of the two, but Davis is the main inventor and should be able to sell the program to investors. Unfortunately, he pretty much sucks at that!
After one day of bad meetings, he has one final chance to make a sale the next morning before flying home. He decides to be sensible and go straight to his hotel room, but that soon wears thin, with stress of family and business, and he decides to go down to the hotel bar, for just one drink. He sees a woman who caught his eye outside earlier, and she ends up sitting next to him. He tries to be a good, married man and refuses, especially as he doesn’t have the money, never mind the wish to cheat on his wife.
Shortly after his refusal, she goes off with another man from the bar. Instead of just one drink, he keeps going and a man, called Justin, comes up to him and asks if he wants the time of his life. The same woman returns and Davis and the man share a bottle of expensive whisky. Davis wakes up the next day, having missed his appointment and even his flight, unable to remember what on earth happened the previous night. He has various missed texts and calls. Lots of the texts are from Justin, asking where he is and asking for money.
He is now on the wire, trapped by a stranger who says he did lots that night and needs to pay for his night of fun. Money is taken from each of his credit cards and when he returns home, his wife starts to get suspicious of his manner and then their bank account details. Davis is caught up in not telling his wife, he has left it too late and thinks he has to try and solve it on his own. He is shown evidence of what he supposedly did, by Justin, and the demands get even more extreme. Davis either has to do something abhorrent or find an impossible amount of money, but even then he may never be free of Justin.
A good thriller and read, which ramps up the action as you go. You read and wonder what action you would have done in that situation. What choices would you have made? Would you pay? If you don’t pay, what will happen to those close to you? You just don’t know at the time. This is what Davis has to contend with. He may have made a minor mistake, but now he is paying for it, possibly with his life and his family’s. I realised who was behind it all, before the end, but it still doesn’t spoil it as you still get to read why it all occurred and how it will end.
I received an ARC copy of the book from the author and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Justin wants to be rich and he has a plan. He gets Davis drunk and Davis doesn’t remember what happened that night. Justin starts sending texts asking if Davis is ignoring him and the text eventually becomes meaner and more pornographic with pictures of Davis having sex with many women. Davis starts out giving him money, but Justin wants it to continue or he can settle the score by killing someone of Justin’s choice. Rather than tell his wife what is happening, Davis goes out of his mind to figure out how to get rid of Justin. There were some typos in the Kindle book and I was fairly certain that Todd was up to no good, too.
I've read a number of Mike McCrary's books and have totally enjoyed them so when I started "Relentless" it seemed a bit slow going for me. Because I have enjoyed his other books I kept on going and was I glad I did. Now I did manage to figure out a bit of the ending pretty early on but I did not expect the kick butt action I got from then on. It had everything and more. Now I know why I like what this guy writes and I won't give up on any of his books because just MAYBE I'll be in for a big surprise".
Read this book in three days, which is very fast for me. Mike McCrary really keeps the plot moving. I have also read his Remo series, and like Relentless, I find the plots to be gruesome and disturbing. Does this mean I can stop reading. No! Parts of the conclusion aren’t a huge surprise, but others are completely unexpected. At times, I felt sorry for Davis, the main character, although there were other times when I didn’t understand why he did certain things. If you like suspense and don’t mind some violence, read this.
What a tale of suspenseful and over the top action A thriller to keep you nailed to your seat and preventing you stopping, just because the chapter finishes, but keeps you pressing on to see what could possibly follow on from this confusing drama to the next Maybe a bit confusing to the reader as the story lurches from one 'finish' to the next . Hard to imagine what is exactly happening as it all appears so unbelievable. Well worth logging along to discover the truth behind all the conniving and corruption.
This is a story about a man who gets caught up in s con game (pictures of him in compromising situations) and tries to get out of it himself to protect his family. The wife knows something is wrong but he won’t tell her . The guy, Justin, who runs the con is a psychopath and the situation soon gets out of control, it was an interesting story with some twists and turns that keep you guessing.
I wasn't sure if it was worth it turns out I was WRONG
I almost stopped reading this book but I rarely do that. I just wasn't feeling like it was for me but about half way through it became more than a psychological thriller and got into the real action and by the end, oh baby.
Relentless is the disturbing tale of what happens when you brush up against a psycho, and when your business partner and someone you consider a valued friend isn't at all who you thought he was. It all comes crashing down and then begins the hard work of picking up the pieces. I did not see the twist coming in this psycho charged story!!
The decisions you make have consequences and no matter how much you think you won't get caught you very well could and you never know who your dealing with. This has many unexpected turns and you can feel the characters feeling of despair. Twists and turns. Definitely a must read if you like thrillers. I couldn't put it down.
A fast-paced rollercoaster ride! Full of twists and turns. This is definitely a page turner. Don’t start reading it if you are not prepared to stay up all night! Wonderful characters and deliciously wicked. A definite home run!
The plot was interesting, but I figured out what was going on early on. Still, the action kept me interested enough that ii got up early today to finish. Not many books can too that.
A bit of a different book for McCrary than his dark and comical Remo series. But still just as much action and just as compulsively readable as everything else McCrary writes. This is a thriller about an average guy put in an impossible situation that's somehow fun and gut-wrenching.
This was a nail biter for the whole book. On the one hand you just knew that something was a mess, but on the other hand you kept trying to decide who was playing what game and with who. A real great read
That one word - intense - describes this book perfectly! I have to say I was intensely afraid for Davis and his family throughout the whole book - right up to the final page! I just couldn’t stop reading! I had an intense need to know what would happen next!!!!
Similar to some of dean koontz the pace is relentless and keeps you hooked. You want the protagonist to do the right thing but they never do. A good read for my first book with this author, thanks !!
I figured it all out about halfway through. Could not relate to Davis. He was just too good. Maybe it was just too psychologically motivated. Verbiage for the sake of verbiage!
Captivating story which could easily happen in the real world. So many persons lurking about with evil intent in the pursuit of Ill-gotten gains. A real page turner!
This book starts slowly, and stays that way. And then it brings with it the meat and two veg and you see what its been hiding behind its back. Believe me when i say GUESS WHO ! Enjoy.
