Charlie Parker #20

Money Can Be Murder

Rate this book
There’s cash missing from a local charity thrift shop—lots of it. And when it looks like her surrogate grandma might be accused, there’s nothing for Charlie to do but take a job there and try to catch the thief from the inside and clear Elsa’s name. As she and Elsa begin tracking the missing money, it becomes obvious that the shop is a little goldmine and there are a number of people who could easily be after the money.

She’s narrowing down the suspects, but when the person who is tops on her list suddenly and mysteriously dies, well it looks there’s a lot more going on in the little shop than anyone ever guessed. Now Charlie has to face down both a thief and a killer.

My love of books started with weekly trips to the library as a child and from the moment I learned to read I can't remember a time that I didn't have at least one book going. For the past 25 years, that list has grown to include what I'm reading and what I'm writing at any given time.

I began writing my Charlie Parker series when my husband and I lived on Kauai, then continued them in my home state of New Mexico. Charlie lives in Albuquerque and manages to travel to a variety of locations, wherever her investigation business and her husband's helicopter business take them. My second series featuring Samantha Sweet, the 50-ish woman who breaks into houses for a living, is set in Taos, New Mexico.

In addition to reading and writing, I've traveled quite a lot, taught writing courses, and been a speaker at a whole lot of mystery conventions and writing conferences. In my spare time I also love to paint, draw, cook and spend time at the beach.

The latest in the Charlie Parker series--I just adore these characters, particularly Charlie's "grams" Elsa. She plays a significant role in this title and I love her even more now. She and Charlie are trying to learn who is stealing money from a charity shop she's been volunteering her time at. It is stunning what is ultimately discovered ... thank goodness for Charlie! If you haven't started this series--it's time to start, it's REALLY good.

This one is different.

Its always point of view from Charlies side. What she does each day to discover what she is seeking, where she is stumped, and when she makes discovery and closer to the truth.

This one flips between Charlie and the grifters.

refreshing the style of the book, this author is really quite good and willing to try different style so her books aren't the same from one story to another.

This book is Connie Shelton at her finest! Loved it as much as the earlier books in the series. Familiar characters and locations - it was like going to Albuquerque to visit old friends. I may have to read the series all over again!

I’m not really very good at writing reviews, but I would like to say that of all of the Charlie Parker series, it’s really stands out. I love it when you have two storylines going at the same time, and I know that there’s always going to be a twist at the end. Good job Ms Shelton.

Writing this one was lots of fun. I simply imagined all the times I've taken items to a charity shop, then threw Charlie and Elsa into the mix, and tossed in a murder. Crafty bad guys and a pink Cadillac--what more could you want?
