For six years, against all odds, Alexander Muir survived on his own in the Arizona desert. Now, after signing on with a volunteer militia, he has found love, made friends, and discovered a renewed sense of purpose. However, all is not well in his new life.
The world is still ruled by the dead, and the living still war against each other over resources and territory. After suffering wounds at the hands of the Storm Road Tribe, Alex has his doubts about the future of the mission he has signed on for—liberating Phoenix from the undead.
Making matters worse, the reinforcements promised by what is left of the federal government turn out to be far less than promised. In fact, they send only one man.
Captain Caleb Hicks.
When Alex is recruited as a guide to help Captain Hicks track down and eliminate the Storm Road Tribe, the two men will discover a threat far greater than anything they expected.
Soon, Alex finds himself in a race against time to destroy a monster that threatens not only his life, but the lives of everyone he has grown to care for. And in the process, he will embark on a journey more dangerous and exciting than anything he has dared to imagine...
Don’t miss this thrilling new adventure set in the Surviving the Dead universe!
James N. Cook is a martial arts enthusiast, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a former cubicle dweller, and the author of the Surviving the Dead series. He hikes, he goes camping, he travels a lot, and he has trouble staying in one spot for very long. He lives in North Carolina.
Hot damn, I had to block out a Sunday morning and read this book from electronic cover to cover. Action, suspense, attention to detail, and an ending that actually made me tear up (in joy) a little. Well done Mr. Cook!!!! I particularly enjoyed the viewpoint as being solely of the main character, with all the tension and mystery surrounding it. Everything in the “Surviving the Dead” franchise has been wonderful, and this iteration is the best yet. Bravo!
Well done! The new threats are un ghastly beasts that are not easy to put down. I could not put this book down for too long as I needed to know how the characters would come out on the other end. I love the description and the story moves forward at a very good pace. Cannot wait for next instalment!
Another great read by Mr. Cook. At first, I wasn't very interested in this new storyline. I really like Garrett, Riordan and Hicks. When I saw Caleb was crossing Indonesia storyline it piqued my interest so I reread the first Hellbreakers and then immediately read the second. Great read from JC as always. Can't wait to read #10.
Hated getting to the end. What a story and was it a good one. Sucks that I have to wait for the next one in the series but will definitely be pre-ordering when available.
Couldn't have written it better, well done Mr. Cook! Really looking forward to the next one! Very entertaining and a great story to boot. Your talent just keeps getting better, keep it up!
Man, what a ride. Couldn’t stop reading. Great how it works back into the original series. Can’t wait for more. I highly recommend the whole series. Have read it through several times.
