The Augathella Girls #2

Outback Sky: The Pilot

Rate this book
Fallon Malone is a loner, refusing to rely on anyone else for her happiness. She’s content being her own boss, working in the skies of the remote Queensland outback. When she begins her contract in the Augathella region for the annual cattle muster, Fallon is unimpressed with the new station manager.

Jon Ingram is equally unhappy with this new female bush pilot, hired by Kent Mason, owner of neighbouring Lara Waters. Now that Braden has his kids back, he seems to have lost his focus on best practice for the local cattle stations. It also doesn’t help that Fallon Malone is a law unto herself.

As the stockman and bush pilot come head-to-head, nature conspires to bring them together. Can Fallon and Jon overcome their differences and give in to the attraction that refuses to go away?

I am really enjoying Annie Seaton's Outback books and this second story set in Augathella made really good reading.

Fallon Malone, helicopter pilot, meets Jon Ingram, Station Manager, when she is contracted to help at the annual cattle muster. Sparks fly when they immediately rub each other up the wrong way. The outcome is inevitable but still great fun to watch.

I liked the way the Aussie outback is described and was intrigued to watch Fallon as she dealt with major issues in flying the helicopter. It is a tough job and she excelled. In fact it was all very interesting and definitely worth four stars.

My second visit to Augathella and this time we get to meet Fallon Malone, pilot and loner and she is happy, this time she arrives in the small town to do a muster over three cattle stations and also to help out her great uncle George, what she finds is not what she ever thought she would when she meets her new boss Jon Olgilvie.

Fallon’s first meeting with her new boss does not go well and with all that she has heard about him she really is not impressed but she is looking forward to this new job and a change of scenery, Fallon does not like to rely on anyone and Jon seems a bit pushy at first but for some reason she is attracted to him and doesn’t understand why.

Jon has moved back to Augathella after a stint away from the area and he is happy to be back at his old job managing the muster and he has hired a new pilot who comes with great references but when he meets her he is unsure at first but he must find a way to work with her, he is getting closer to her all the time.

This was a lovely trip back to Augathella and catching up with Braden and Callie and seeing Fallon find love when she wasn’t looking for it and for Jon to find such happiness, a lovely romance that I would recommend and I do look forward to the next one in the series.

Fallon Malone was heading to Augathella for two reasons - the cattle mustering job she'd been hired for by Kent Mason, and to sort through her Great-Uncle George's home now that he was in a nursing facility. She had no idea what was ahead in the house she had to make ready for sale, but if she had known she probably would have declined. Waiting for her bird (helicopter) to be delivered the following day - the mustering Fallon did was from the sky - while her car was in the local mechanics, lucky to have made it, she thought about her upcoming meeting with the new boss. Jon Ingram - if she'd known it was him she wouldn't have signed the contract...

Jon's reputation had preceded him and his snarky, sarcastic manner was grating. But Fallon was determined to ignore it, to do the job she was hired for. Fallon was a loner, happy in her own company, while her reputation for her job was second to none. Would the two be able to work together, or would Fallon quit and head back to the coast of Queensland?

Outback Sky - the Pilot is the 2nd in the Augathella series by Aussie author Annie Seaton and while I enjoyed the setting in outback Queensland, along with the rugged cattle farmers, their families and all that goes with the story, Fallon and Jon's story was very predictable. That said, it was a quick, easy read and I'll be continuing with the series. Recommended.

Annie Seaton's Augathella Girls series never fails to deliver! The tranquility and simplicity of these books always makes visiting this outback town a pleasure.

This time, we meet highly independent, masterfully skilled and incredibly feisty Fallon Malone. As a contract helicopter pilot, she's used to performing under pressure in a wide range of situations. Undertaking a three week muster contract should be a sinch. That's until she met the boss, Jon Ingram and wished she never signed that piece of paper.

Jon's (somewhat misjudged) reputation of being harsh, arrogant and a ladies man precedes him. Upon their first encounter, Jon manages to offend poor Fallon with his overly enthusiastic flirtation and standoffish manner. Needless to say, heads butt and tempers flare. Still, Fallon is aware that she has an obligation, even if Jon remains uncertain about her abilities.

Next morning, things have calmed down but Fallon arrives late for a test flight after an overnight emergency. Accidentally dressed in her pyjamas clears the air and they're able to co-operate in a friendly way. However, crossed wires soon cause another blow-up. Afterwards, a honest heart to heart and forgiveness on both parts paves the way for something unexpectedly special. Turns out misjudgment has gotten in the way of true feelings!

Knowing that this fling can't last for more than a few weeks, our unlikely couple prepares for the inevitable. Still, their relationship is worth fighting for, considering how deep they've fallen...

A short and sweet read filled with familiar and new faces, delightfully intertwined, ongoing plotlines and a few surprises along the way!

Still not sure what to make of this series. I gave book one 3.5 stars rounded down. This one is 3.5 stars rounded up. Maybe I’m rounding up just because I knew more what to expect. Not much will likely get resolved until the series ends.
It’s mercifully short, so it can’t go too far off the rails.
I disliked how quickly the relationship between Fallon and Jon progressed from being annoyed and rude with each other to being engaged. Maybe it’s just a setup for book twenty in the series when they will get divorced!
As before, the sense of place that I enjoyed in The Porter Sisters series is missing.
I’ll probably continue the series, but I’m less convinced there’ll be a payoff that will make it worthwhile.

I am falling hard and fast for the wonderful characters in this series and this book certainly didn't disappoint. Fallon is a wonderful and very human heroine,no airs and graces and Jon has a reputation as a lady-killer but is that an exaggeration or not. Can they each trust these new feelings or should they keep their distance.

I loved returning to Augathella and learning Fallon’s story. These books are refreshing and a wonderful escape to the country. This is a series I am really enjoying and wish I had more patience to wait for the future books.

I think I liked this characters a bit more than outback roads, but overall enjoyed the first book more. I will continue reading these though and they have been a great easy read in between some heavier books
