A new world. A malevolent disease. The Doctor is in.
Virgil's a veterinarian, a man dedicated to being a healer of animals. Despite the ups and downs of caring for sick and injured creatures, his career was more than a job. It was his calling. Then his dedication was noticed, and the world around him faded as he was yanked through the void.
The great world tree, Yggdrasil, needed a group that could work together to stop a threat that could end reality. The world tree summoned a team of five champions into a world straight out of fantasy, and remade them into something more. Unfortunately for Virgil, he was granted almost no skills that cause damage, and his body was shifted into a reviled Dark Elf. Now hated by the locals, and of little use to the others that can already heal themselves as well as deal damage, Virgil was cast aside.
Abandoned and alone, Virgil will take on the threat to this world… no matter what ally gets in his way.
I did not read this whole book because the premises utterly ridiculous every one of these people proclaims to be a gamer either in their spare time or professionally yet none of them see the value of a dedicated healer in a group that mostly has just attackers that's so utterly stupid the basic composition of any team in any game is tank three damage and a healer. I get the premise but I just makes to little sense to function at least in shield hero it's a plot made by the king. Unlike here where it's just stupidity all around.
This book follows the traditional summons storyline, but the simplicity of everyone involved is super annoying… No one really seems to care about the world ending threat, there is simplistic and overwhelming racism, and while the main characters background and build is interesting, they act like a five-year-old with a concussion… Imagine an adult seven to prison with four other people, turned green and then told the green people have been bad in the past so he’s going to be raped repeatedly by everyone, but his job is to save the warden… The other people summoned from our world with him decide that “well if he’s green he must be bad” so let’s help him get raped, and then the main character spends the rest of the story trying to get everyone to like him and heal them in between being assaulted…all while worried about saving the warden. The veterinarian angle is a good one, he just needed some actual character development…and believability
This is an audiobook review. This story is basically revenge of the shield hero but with elves and animal companions instead of slaves. I don’t have much to say about it really. I wish the story was more unique. The characters/events felt too scripted, and it was obvious how the main antagonist was going to react in every situation. Regardless, this was a good background book to listen to when doing work.
Virgil is a veterinarian who suddenly found himself in another world as a dark elf. He is one of the Druid champions along with 4 other newly created elves. The problem is that dark elves are hated in this kingdom. To make matters worse, Virgil is the healing Druid. He finds that this means that he has no starting offensive spells and his weapon is little more than a healing booster. This could be difficult.
This is a very fun take on the isekai genre. I really enjoyed this book and the new characters. Grief is one of my favorite new characters! Virgil starts out very weak and hated. I know you can’t apply logic to prejudice, but the people know that he has not been a dark elf before he lands in this world. There are a few very OP items that he comes across, but it is understandable as a champion to save the world.
I really don't enjoy books where the protagonist is a carpet. Everyone is walking over him, and he is accepting it. I hope he does something or this will be the first and last book I read from this author.
Well, the book ended how it began. Everyone still hates the protagonist, and he turns the other cheek so people can slap him up and walkaway scot-free.
There are many other things I disliked in this book, but I really don't like wasting my time with doormat protagonists.
Virgil gets dumped into a fantasy world as one of five Druid Champions who are to save the world from demonic invasion. But things don’t go well for the group, particularly for Virgil who becomes outcast. Of course, being the main character he finds his way. Nice, engaging story with a few more books waiting for me.
There is also nothing original with this. It is a play by play use of a worn out trope with cliche characters. Every twist, every betrayal, every lie, it is all obvious from a mile away.
1 ) Isekai / Transmigration book , Check 2 ) Protagonists easy accepting being kidnaped from there world. , Check 3 ) All knowing being selecting new champions that are morally bankrupt and pieces of garbage, Double Check! 4 ) Levels and stats that mean nothing in the world, Check 5 ) Protagonists fighting against people and monsters way above their own level, Check. 6 ) Author giving some protagonist skills but not all that can level a small block in one go while still under level 15, Check. 7 ) Protagonists accepting and working with racists for face value, AND doing whatever they say after being kidnapped. Check
This book is a solid buy. Let's go into the cons. One thing I hate (personally) is when a mc gets treated like trash and doesn't stand up for himself, this happens in the book but it evens out at the end. (not as much as I would like) other then that I have no problems. (other then mcs with no backbone)
The pros far outweigh the cons. The progression is solid. Romance feels pushed but is overall good. There is really no world building but with the rest of the book you'll forget about it. There's not alot of chapters or povs (which I love). The fighting isn't as detailed as would like it.
Overall this book is a buy, and if you love books like "the shield hero" or books where the Mc has to persevere this book is for you. If you mostly like bloodcrazed cold-blooded mcs (like me kinda) well this book isn't really your style. But this books fits everyone and it's for sure a buy.
Great intro to the series. Great blend of story telling and humor. The blatant racism, though integral to driving the MC plot, can be grating. Just personally hate bigotry, so my personal preference reflects my review. Cannot wait to see the comeuppance later and hope the Yggdrasil does something about the dipsh*ts who need a good kick in the rear.
I enjoyed this, I found the beginning to feel kind of staged and of course the premise felt very shield heroesq. But it became more enjoyable with fun ways to kill.
Dirk is a POS that gets annoying and felt 2 dimensional but I'm intrigued on how to story lines will split
I rally enjoyed this book. Virgil was a super frustrating character for me, but I still enjoyed this story arc. Dirk was pretty obvious in his progression and I hoped it wouldn't go that way... But it did. Overall I still enjoyed this book and would easily read the next.
I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to more. It is nice to see a MC that is more normal and having to deal with issues others have in real life and keep on going no matter what.
It started good but got worse and worse finally ater geting to page 409 i gave up ..the mc was a wimp plain and simple the writer made him into someone that i dont like since i dont !ike the mc i quit reading the book...dont waste your time like did
This book was great and whilst I enjoy the tropes of LitRPG, having a vet as the protagonist is refreshing! This was well written and I look forward to the next book.
This was a great book but does have some plot holes. If you can not handle plot holes than this is not the book for you. If you are ok with plot holes like I am this was a fun book the the storyline moved pretty fast and kept the action going. Looking forward to book 2
One of the interesting things about the Mountaindale books is the real world professions that these books draw from. In this case, a protagonist from a veterinarian/healer type background is rather unique in a sword and fantasy setting. I enjoyed these.
Story and litrpg elements are decent, but there are zero intelligent characters; I find it hard to believe the MC could have completed veterinary school. Thoughtless as a child or perhaps teenager as well. World building is mediocre. If food, it’d be gas station food.
This book seems to take heavy influence from the shild hero series but enough is changed to make it it's own story. Well worth the read and im buying book 2 right away
