Claimed by Monsters #2

Captive of the Dark

Rate this book
I knew my mates had dark secrets. But I never knew there was a secret lurking in my own blood.

After everything we did to try to get Donovan O’Shae off my back, one stupid mistake put me right in his crosshairs. No… scratch that. It put me in the crosshairs of his master, someone I’m 1000% sure I never want to meet.

But I probably won’t have a choice in that.

Because Donovan didn’t just capture me. He also managed to imprison the three beautiful, monstrous men who’ve come to mean more to me than anyone else in the world.

They’ve done so much to try to keep me safe. Now it’s my turn to do whatever I have to in order to protect them from this dangerous new threat.

Even if it means risking everything...

Including myself.
Captive of the Dark is the second book in the Claimed by Monsters series, an action-packed paranormal romance featuring a fierce woman and three damaged, sexy men.

A little too glib

Too many things just don't play well in this story. Like, the fmc is supposed to be some badass thief, but then is actually rubbish at it. The motivation of the fmc to fight the bad guy comes across kinda half-hearted, unconvincing and lacks tension. On the plus side, I like the guys, and the book is well written and edited. Not sure if I'll pick up the next one, or not. (Edit: I did read the whole series, 4* overall)

Firstly, yes. Secondly, more please.

This is book 2 in a new series, and it kicks off right where book 1 ends.

We’re thrown right in and the action is continuous throughout the book. As is the relationships forming. Kiara is slowly learning to trust, the guys proving to her that they deserve that trust. It is hot. That kitchen scene 😳🥵

I have so much love for all of these characters and cannot wait to see where this story takes us.

Another, dun dun dunnnnn ending that leaves you desperate for the next 🖤

This book was a bit slower. I had a hard time getting into it until the last half of the book. Hopefully book 3 will be better.

Captive of the dark is the 2nd book in the claimed by the monsters series and it shows no sign of letting in the pace. Kiara (FMC) has more complications in this book apart from Donovan. One that threatens her and the guys - Raven, North and Cain. They all confront their growing relationship with plenty of sexy times. As well as talking about their backstories. Everything comes to a head with a cliffhanger ending. A brilliant read and series

Everytime she follows a man to talk to them.... She doesn't just talk. Top tier spice. Interesting plot. I want to know more about the Fae thing though

missing something

The first book was absolutely outstanding, but I struggled with this one. I can’t exactly pinpoint why either. I’m undecided if I’ll keep reading the series or not.

Now that it’s been more than a few days (like the first book), we learned more about Cain and Raven past. Each scene to find out about their secrets/past was set up the same. There was an argument, she forced it out of them, and then they had sex. It got to predictable. I do wish some part of the plot touched on North and his non shifting abilities.

I’m just missing something when it comes to Keira. I was hoping for more character development with her. Everything seems to be surface level and nothing deep about her. I was hoping we’d learn more about who she is, her past, or about the ancient fae blood she had.

I think there was to much action and not enough character development. I needed more connection to the characters.

Out of the frying pan, into the fire

The situation with Donovan at the end of Bound to the Dark wasn't particularly ideal but what happens at the beginning of this book just takes things up a notch and makes everything worse for Kiara and her mates. It turns out a high up vampire isn't the only one that is out for blood and his sight is set on Kiara.
What was really great about this book was that you got to see a lot of character development and a change in the relationship between Kiara and her mates. After the death of her parents, Kiara was living a life of constant running and hiding, making no attachments, and not allowing herself to trust anyone. Compared to the first book, this book had much more emotion involved as Kiara slowly started to let down her walls, admitting her feelings to herself and to her men. Trust is a two way street and Kiara surely proved to her men that she was able to be trusted. In turn, this led them to be able to open up about their pasts and their insecurities as well. Being vulnerable is ok when you are in the presence of someone who has your best interest at heart and wants nothing more than to protect and support you.
The bonds between Kiara, Raven, North, and Cain definitely strengthened in this book, which was for the best because this group had a lot coming at them and little time to strategize. I really enjoyed how well they all worked together while both coming up with ideas and while in the midst of fighting as well, making sure that everyone was covered. It's a good thing that they have each other because I have an inkling that what's coming up next is going to be one hundred times worse for them. Power is addictive and most times people who crave it, shouldn't have it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Kiara and her mates will be able to figure out the best way to overcome their next obstacle, with minimal damage to themselves in the process.

If the first book was both silly and interesting, this one was just boring and annoying, with details mixed up. I won’t continue this series.

Wait a damn minute. Didn’t they sleep with each other in Vegas? Literally before going to Donivan? Was the author gaslighting us? Or was it a huge plot hole?
“I’ll basically be inviting them to sleep with me. And I’ve had a lot of opportunities to do that over the last few days.
But we haven’t done anything since our first time together.”

For the second book, I kept thinking about how the FMC didn’t have any clothes except for that dress she wore to the bar at the beginning of the first book. They never went to her apartment for her clothes or any of her things… and what about her college degree? She was enrolled in college in the first book, but it was soon forgotten.

The FMC conveniently remembered that they were all mates only when she needed something from them. At other times, she still didn’t trust them. She was a hypocrite for saying this while keeping her own secrets:

“I’m your mate,” I tell him. “That means I can tell when something is wrong. And you talk about how we’re mates and we’re connected. But then you want to hide something from me? You and the other two said that if we accept this mate bond, it will be a forever thing. Is this how you would want our forever to be? Full of secrets?”

Original review

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Sadie Moss!

Captive of the Dark is the second book in the Claimed by Monsters series and continues the story of Kiara and her men, Cain, North and Raven.

I really enjoyed the first book in the Claimed by Monsters series, Bound to the Dark, so I was really excited when I got my copy of Captive of the Dark! I think that Kiara’s story is really interesting and I cannot get enough of her men Cain, North and Raven. Captive of the Dark is filled with action and spice, and I couldn’t put this book down! I only did because I needed to adult, lol.

In Captive of the Dark, Kiera is finally opening up to the men and is starting to trust them. I really enjoyed reading about the change in their relationship, and seeing them grow towards each other. I like reading about these characters because although they’re going through some tough stuff, they’re still looking out for each other and enjoying their time together. I’m excited to see them grow towards each other even more in the next book!

Captive of the Dark was another great read by Sadie Moss, and I’m not even surprised. Sadie Moss is one of my favourite authors in the (Fantasy) RH genre because she always writes quick, steamy and interesting books. There hasn’t been one book by Sadie Moss that I didn’t enjoy! I really recommend checking out the Claimed by Monsters series if you’re a fan of RH, shifters and some action.

Meh. I was unimpressed with the female mc, since she was pretty useless in this book. The book was boring, repetitive, & slow. To be honest, nothing important really happened in this book except they “accidentally” gave more power to the villains. Also, I realize in my last review for book one I said I wasn’t expecting amazing plot, or interesting character development. When I said that I didn’t mean get rid of it altogether. I just meant I didn’t expect it to be top tier & to respect it for the type of book it is. However, even I have limits. Every single mate went through an insecurity, storm off, tense discussion, argue, & make-up sex with the heroine. EVERY ONE of them in a row. The repetitive nature makes me feel like I’m reading the same chapter over & over. Unfortunately, I do want to know how it ends so I’ll just power skim through the final book.

Well, this is only book two and I am completely playing favorites. Cain is definitely in the number one spot. I feel like I can relate to using humor to deal with the heavy dark stuff. I was laughing out loud at him.
“Tell me, do you all go to monologuing school?” Cain asks. “Do you have to practice public speaking and stuff to become a megalomaniac? Or do you decide to take over the world just so you have an excuse to make grand speeches all the time? Is this a chicken and egg scenario?”
There’s so much more I want to say but SPOILERS! Trust me, this story is brilliant and you need to read it. The spice level is fire!

Thankfully we pick up where book one ended! Kiara has been thrown into an even worse situation but now she has her men and doesn’t have to face things alone. I love that she’s accepting their connection. She wasn’t doubtful compared to the first book. She knows what needs to be done with this new threat and I love when the FMC decides to take action. So much happened in this book that it was hard to put it down when I needed to! The ending…I don’t even know how to explain my thoughts! I was angry and maybe a little sad but then right back to angry. Book three is only a short time away and I can’t wait to see how it ends!

Twice as nice

This book follows up straight on from the first and was a stronger page turner than the first. Kiara and her guys thought they knew who and what their biggest threat was, but they were wrong. Now that they're aware of that threat, they must find a way to thwart it, while keeping hidden from it, as they collect info and prepare their defenses. There's still a lot of doubt and fear regarding their sudden and blossoming relationship. And a thrilling ending where pretty much everything that could go wrong, does. Enjoying this series a lot, can't wait for the last book. 😍

really good but what is wrong with this woman?!

Please read these books I might be trippin but I still enjoyed its very much!
A few things highly pissed me off though! If I had a dime for every time she said “the men” I would be RICH!! it honestly got annoying ASF
Second?? Uhh does she know how to comfort anyone without just throwing some vag at these guys? I get that she had a hard time opening up about her feeling but clearly her legs open just fine! Lol but seriously I love all the steamy stuff just wish she would use her big girl words instead of thinking sex is an explanation or an apology. 9/10 for the men

I like that you got some back story on all the guys in this book. You get to know them all a little bit better. Roanac is obviously nuts and he has something scary planned. It was all going so well. I knew something bad would happen. Was the tingling electric feeling something to do with her ancient blood that healed herself. Her visions of the war are obviously going to happen. I wonder if the guys aren’t there because they are captured? So many questions. Also Donovan sucks and I hope he gets what’s coming to him.

Sadie Moss has done it again, another brilliant series that builds in intensity and steam! Kiara and her guys are in real danger and hiding from the danger, while planning heists and trying to decide if they want to indulge in their mating bonds or let them wither. With more than one bad guy entering the frame, things get complicated and dangerous quickly. I love the feel of these books, monsters, fae, vampires, they all add to the awesomeness. I can't wait to see what happens next!

PNR RH Book 2

This book was shorter than the previous book and the final book. It was more about building the mate bonds and finding a way to stop Roanoke (spelling is close enough you get the idea). They go on the offense and take the fight to him but it ends on a cliffhanger and the cliffhanger is brutal. The spice does not go down in this book even though it is the shortest in this series. The spice is also good there is 1 on 1 and group activities in this one.

As the story continues in this trilogy

There's much more To the back story of The guys and Kiara. Love her name btw! We learn a bit more about Donovan ! This is a pretty great story with cool characters with a bit of chaos thrown in the mix. Looking forward to seeing how this author wraps up Kiara, Raven, North and Cain's story as well as the fate of Donovan that snake and Roanoke that nasty piece of work!

This second book in the series was non stop action, and I loved it. So much happened it was crazy. And the sexy scenes were soo 🔥. Kiara is finally starting to let go of her fears and learn to trust the guys and is learning she doesn't have to do everything on her own. Can't wait for the next book to know what happens!

Intense, action-packed sequel! 🤩

Full of action and steamy moments, this installment is a great sequel to Kiara's story. Her bond with the guys is strengthening, as she’s finally accepting their mate bond and trusting in them! 🤗🥰
We get to know more about Cain and Raven's past; I can't wait to know more about North and, of course, Kiara's, which is a bigger mystery now!!! 🤯

The smut is honestly my reasoning for continuing this series. I feel like that's the main reason focus for this book, then the plot was just thrown in there to keep things going.
At first, I was like oh a HOT one nightstand turns into your OUR mate....okay I need to see how this turns out after the first two chapters and now I'm like eh I could finish them or move on.

Captive of the Dark, the second book of the Claimed by Monsters series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). Intense and fast-paced, Captive of the Dark was an excellent follow-up to book one. The tension was constant and I enjoyed the ride.

odd typos

This was unexpected from an established author, but there were a myriad of problems - typos, mixed-up character names, general continuity errors - that just jarred enough to disrupt the story flow.

Inner Monologue.

The inner monologue has become repetitive and extremely exhausting to read. I think different POVs would have worked so much better with this long winded, constant summarizations of everything.

Boy do I hate Donovan ❗❗He needs to be killed ❗ First he takes the immortal key and then he still kidnaps her and gives her to his boss all because he found out she has rare blood❗
I love a few scenes in this book too, that are sweet...
