I thought finding my fated mate would change my life. I’m a wolf shifter who can’t shift, the lowest member of my pack, forced into servitude, and when I hear the fated mating call I think things are finally going to change.

Then my mate rejects me and serves me up as a sacrifice to a monster.

Bloody and broken, I run for my life, straight into the arms of three gorgeous brothers…

...and into an accidental mate-bond with the surliest of the lot.

Knox is powerful and angry and wants nothing to do with a weakling like me or our bond. But it’s too strong and while he can reject me — and does — he can’t break it. Despite that, I’m still drawn to him… except I’m also attracted to his brothers. Which makes no sense. The mate-bond should leave no room for desire for anyone but Knox. But I can’t deny that all three brothers call to me in ways I’ve never felt before. And they seem to be warming up to me, too, welcoming me into the pack, giving me shelter, and maybe more…

Except that’s just a fantasy. I couldn’t trust my fated mate and I can’t trust the brothers. All I can do is trust myself and if I finally want my freedom, I have to break an unbreakable bond.

Why did you read this book?
It was labeled a reverse harem romance. It had decent ratings and the an interesting summary.

What format did you read this book in?
Read it as an ebook on Kindle

Is this an educational book or a book for entertainment?
I read this book for pure entertainment purposes, but was not entertained.

What genres do you think this book belongs to?
Fantasy, Romance?, Adult
What was your favorite part in the book? SPOILERS
Bishop taking care of the MC. (Because someone had to. That girl has been through enough.)

Who would you suggest this book to?
Anyone who likes rejected mate and bully romances. Notice I didn’t say RH because there was very little of that.

What is your general opinion/ rating of this book? SPOILERS
I didn’t like it. I HATED 2 out of the 3 love interests and I felt like the terrible pack she came from was too much. The poor main character is so abused, and the love interest just abuse her some more without redeeming themselves at all (except for Bishop. He is the only reason I finished this book.) I feel terrible that the MC has to crave a jerk who is selfish and doesn’t have a empathic bone in his body. I wish the author would have allowed them to break the bond. Because at this point it’s basically like magically drugging them against their will, which I don’t find sexy at all. If you’re into cruel love interests and shifters then you’ll like this book. This story wasn’t for me.

Are there any cliché scenes or concepts?
It’s a werewolf fated mate book. It has several common troupes that this genre always seems to have with added rejected mate/ bully troupes mixed in.

How intense are the intimacy scenes?
Intense and very descriptive, however they are only in dreams, not reality. There is no manage in this one.

At what “burn” level is the romance?
Slow to medium burn.

Love interests, how many of them are there and what gender?
There are three love interests? Really at this point it’s hard to tell if any of them will be a continued love interest or not. There are Knox (Asshole), Cyrus (Alpha Asshole), and Bishop (The only one who is worthy of her.).

Wow!! This was one of the best reverse harem books I’ve read in a long time. It didn’t come across immediately that it was going to be that type of book, it’s so slow burn, but you’re pulled in straight from the start and just go along for the ride!!
The characters are believable and not annoying, it also manages to world build without being too wordy, which can happen easily. The references to another series have not detracted from this one and it can be read without having read anything previous. Still I’m definitely going to check them out!!
I’m desperate now for the next in the series and hoping it carries on in the same vein.

I’m an outlier here I guess but I just don’t like my mains to be so tortured without anything, literally anything, good in their story. She doesn’t have an animal or ghost or spirit or companion of any kind to draw comfort from and the frequent and brutal rejection she receives repeatedly just made the book seem like an exercise in suffering.

Kind of a downer story, with the FMC Audrey being beaten and bullied her whole life. Not the fiery strong characters that I generally like, but the hope is that she will transcend the abuse, get therapy and become strong :)

Audrey gets forced into a bond but is able to escape, then inadvertently ends up (shh don't give away the secret) SOMEWHERE else where she bonds with another reluctant wolf, Knox. Who is hot and has 2 hot brothers. Nice.
They struggle getting to know each other and learning to trust each other.

I am continuing the series despite the review and peeves, these are fast reads towards my 2024 goal :)

Spoilers:
I don't care for the style of writing where I am "told" everything. Pages and pages of inner dialogue, mostly repetitive down trodden talk, and not a lot of actually talking between characters.

But a major bummer for me is later in the story, where she is severely cut and bruised and Bishop takes her out on the town shopping.
Why can't the author invent magical healing for that part even though they had those life saving magical amulets? Or were the injuries left on her to explain the constant fainting so the guys can keep having conversations without speaking?

I love the rejected mates trope and I enjoyed the unique twist this book had on it. The world building was great and I liked how there are different realms and supernatural creatures and the way it all meshes with the humans.

Audrey is not a bad-a** chick in this book….I have complete faith that as the series goes on, we will see her become tough and brave and kick some butt. In this book though, the poor girl has just had it rough her whole life and unfortunately the hits just keep coming. I love that she continuously talks herself down off the ledge from many things. It takes a lot of strength to do that.

Bishop is such a sweetheart, funny, kind, and so caring for everyone. He stole my heart in this book. Cyrus has moments where I’m like okay, I could like you but then I swear he always goes and ruins it by pushing his power on Audrey smh Knox….we didn’t really get too much from him so I don’t really know how to feel about him. I liked his wolf in certain scenes lol

I thought this was a good first book to the series and I’m definitely going to read the second book to see what happens. My only complaint is the unbearable slow-burn this is lol I do recommend this book for anyone that likes the rejected mates trope!

Audrey thinks her life can't get any worse- from being the lowest on the totem pole of her pack due to the fact that she can’t shift into her wolf. But things go from the frying pan right into the fire when when she hears the mating call awaken her a member of her pack.

A77be66c66b99dd8f864e9e5d50ea8ab

For a second Audrey thinks this might be the change of everything- until she is played with and then cruelly rejected as a part of a scheme to sacrifice her life.

Broken, hurt, and of the run Audrey finds herself surrounded by three werewolf brothers trying to save her life. However, unconsciously she ties herself to one of the most resistant of the brothers- Knox.

Can this be the start of something new...or is only a bigger hell awaiting our lost heroine?

Full Series review

This one is 6 books long, but should have been 3. They’re definitely quick reads, but there is SO MUCH FILLER. A lot of the excessive journeying and camping could have been trimmed down, and a lot of the inner monologuing was repetitive. The actual plot resolution happens so quickly at the end of book 6, and honestly was ignored for the most part in books 2-5. There was so much interesting stuff happening in this series, but the pacing and direction hopped around so much and I wish that it was plotted out with a little more cohesiveness. I had fun reading it, but had to do a lot of skimming through some of the repetitive stuff especially toward the end.

Also the author has this thing she does where she repeats a word 3 times for emphasis in moments of heightened emotion (mine mine mine. now now now. more more more) and it starts to get really overused midway through the series to the point where it’s just way too much.

Audrey has been the weakest in her pack, and pretty much bullied for most her life. I felt for her, because it seems no matter what she does or where she goes no one wants her. When she is tricked into a mate bond and then rejected, she ends up going through a portal, and being rejected again. This is slow burn, and while there is attraction, there isn’t much romance. At this point, Bishop may be the only I don’t ant to slap. The story does end on a suspenseful moment and I will be watching out for book 2!

Couldn’t put it down

This book grabbed me right away. It has an excellent plot. It has made me feel the characters. My heart hurts for their collective trauma. The language makes me see the world the book takes place in. Can’t wait for the next book.🔥🔥/5

Good

Audrey is a wolf shifter who cannot shift. Deceived into believing in her fated mate, she finds herself rejected, attacked, and on the run.

Running across a wounded woman while investigating something on pack lands, Knox never expected a forced mate bond with her.
Determined not to accept it, he and his brothers Bishop and Cyrus, take her back to find a way out of his predicament.
Awaking to find herself in a strange land, with a strange pack, and bonded to a strange man is hard for Audrey to accept, but she’s determined to survive.

This was a well written rejected mates story, and poor Audrey had to deal with rejection more than once. I admired her tenacity in the face of adversity, and enjoyed watching her strength and fortitude as she overcame so many odds. She may be sheltered, but the abuse she has suffered has also tempered her.
While some of Knox’s, and to a lesser extent Cyrus’s, actions were mean, they weren’t meant in a mean spirited way; which makes them not-quite-alphaholes. Instead they are confused, but powerful shifters, trying their best. That being said, Bishop was definitely the best of them, and not nearly as one-track minded as everyone else tried to paint him!
I enjoyed reading about each of them and their thoughts, and found it wonderfully refreshing to have three males who weren’t in a bad light, for no reason.

This was a quick read, and an entertaining one. I’m curious about the world introduced, and the “magical system” as it were, and look forward to learning more about it all.
It’s the first book in a serialized series, so it ends on a book hook-type cliffhanger (low on the trauma scale, a 2/5 more hook than cliffhanger!), and rates fairly low in spice but isn’t without any (lots of heat, low action).
It’s an engaging story, and I’m intrigued to see where it all leads.
This is a good choice for RH and rejected mates fantasy lovers.

Creative Plot

I liked this book. It had a plot that went at a fast pace. I love stories that have something substantial to them vs a bunch of sex without connection and a dash of mystery. This book had plenty of the former. The way the emotions were written especially the fmc’s, was what hooked me. She had a terrible life with the pack she grew up with. There was an incident at a yearly meeting for those who turn 18 can shift the first time. Turns out the son of the alpha had plans that involved sacrificing her to a demon. She runs and after almost dying, the man who finds her bleeding to death is her true soul mate. They both have baggage but boy does he have “baggage”. I’m not a fan of Cyrus, I hate reading about men/alphas who force their will on individuals, that are clearly going through something mentally. Originally the fmc was rightfully pissed, then the fmc thinks about it in her head, and talks herself into thinking he was right to do what he did. A good politician is supposed to be good with words, and he didn’t realize he traumatized her even more. I hated that part of the book. Additionally any decent conversation she had with him. She should have declined the dinner invitation on principle… I hope she grows more of a back bone in the next book. Regardless, I can’t wait to see what’s next!

Loved

Omg this is my first rejected mates series and I’m obsessed. Tessa Cole absolutely sucked me in immediately.

Audrey is an anomaly within her pack, she’s a wolf shifter who can’t shift. Because of her inability to shift she’s viewed as weak, worthless, and being an orphan it also opens her up to immense bullying by EVERYONE in her pack. 5 years after her first attempt to transform into the wolf she’s supposed to be, everything goes wrong. The Alphas son and his Beta, two of her biggest bullies, decide that sacrificing her to a power hungry god/demon is the way to herald their pack back into their previous standing. By the skin of her teeth Audrey escapes……only to wake up in a different realm, surrounded by shifters so much different than her pack…….and mated to a complete stranger who doesn’t want her.

Tessa Cole has created a fun and inviting world involving not only shifters but all types of supernatural creatures, also throwing in fated and rejected mates which always makes things more interesting. She gives you just enough to keep you interested but leaves you with just enough questions that you have to go to the next book immediately.

This book is an okay start to a series. I have it 3 stars because it has some components I’m not a fan of.

I would have personally preferred if this book had no smut. It makes since for the storyline. Instead the writer created these dream sequences were the MMCs wolf is with her sexually. It’s a weird way to write smut in my opinion. It really ruined the idea of her having an extremely intimate sex life. Mind you the author writes this when the MMC hates her. So when she wakes up she’s always craving a man who doesn’t like her, it’s pathetic in my opinion.

The last issue I have is the weak women trope. It seems no matter what book I read authors just love useless women. This character is really weak. It’s a part of her character. I’m hoping though in one of the books once her curse is gone she’ll get a little backbone/strength. I don’t think she’ll be a great character who’s capable but I’d be content if she was no longer a doormat.

I’m going to keep reading the series because the author is a great writer. She does a great job at describing the world she’s building. I can literally see it in my head.

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Poor Audrey, a submissive and abused wolf shifter who has yet to have her wolf form appear is cruelly tricked into opening a mate bond. When her “intended” refuses to accept the bond it is revealed Audrey is actually the final piece as a sacrifice to a demonic god. In fear, Audrey manages to escape through the opened rift and into a new realm. Tiring from her injuries she plunges off of an unfamiliar ridge into a river that drags her under and washes her far downstream.

When a group of wolf shifter on patrol discover her seemingly dead body on a muddy river bank, they are surprised to find the girl is alive- if barely hanging on. A chance meeting of her eyes as they haul her unconscious body out of the riverbed leaves her open mating rite latching onto reclusive Knox.

Knox, horrified, wants nothing to do with this woman who ensured him, but his twin brother, Bishop, becomes enamored after he manages to carry her back to their pack lands.

Can Audrey come to accept that here is a pack to which she could perhaps find acceptance and will Knox accept the mate bond that his brother seems eager to accept? Or will her low self-esteem keep her from fighting for a new life that she so desperately wants?

Fascinating worldbuilding that takes a few common staples of PNR and adds on to them in a believable way to create something new. Good balance of spice without sacrificing character development by having the meaty bits occur in dream sequences of questionable real-ness.

FMC is tricked into initiating a mating bond by her bullies, barely escapes with her life, and then is found by our three MMCs and accidentally is bonded to the least-social one of them. Somehow despite the fact that all he does is growl and stalk around hating life, I still wanted to know more about him. The golden-retriever brother is delightful and the alpha brother balances them out perfectly. I’ve already wishlisted the next book in the series.

My one complaint is length and choice of stopping point—it’s a bit short, and it ends in a place that didn’t feel like the natural conclusion of a story arc. I felt like it ended at the end of Act Two and that means it’ll presumably take twice as many books to get to the point compared to other series.

I tried so hard to love this but it fell so so short

I wish I had listened to some of the other reviews around how it is all just internal monologuing and so drawn out.
I almost DNF and I am kind of happy I kept going - mostly because it started to have promise at around the 87% mark, still don’t know if it is enough for me to read in though -
The premise is good, the characters are childish, the writing is fine
I really felt like I wasted valuable reading time on this though
I would actually rate more like 2/5 starts but I don’t want to be an asshole because honestly I can see how people could enjoy this
Do not recommend

A good story, but a bit ... drab?

I feel this book could have been almost half as long as it was. Basically, the FMC gets rejected, she runs away, ends up being found injured by a few Alphas, and near death. She unknowingly and unintentionally mates with someone she doesn't know. They take her home, the stranger she mated with doesn't want her. They try to find a way to break the bond.

That's the summary of the book. There's a couple of parts in it that add to the storyline, sure, but I started looking at how much was left of the book and pressing on to keep reading. I'm hoping it picks up a lot more in the next book. This dragged on a bit too much, in my opinion.

-paranormal romance
-fated mates
-Shifters

This book was a spontaneous read for me, and it was quite an enjoyable experience. I appreciated the unhurried pace of the narrative, although I must admit that I wished for more content. I am hopeful that the second book will fulfill this desire. Unfortunately, the story concludes on a cliffhanger, leaving me eager for the continuation. Despite this, I am committed to reading the second book. The protagonist, Audrey, appears to be perpetually unlucky, enduring a series of unfortunate events, from being deceived to nearly losing her life and even becoming entangled in an unwanted bond.

2.5 stars rounded to 3.

I just did not care about any of the characters or about the plot. The book ends on a cliffhanger and I… don’t care. I felt bad for Audrey at the beginning of the book and I was glad when she managed to get out but after that I kept waiting for something to happen but nothing did. Maybe this book is supposed to set the worldbuilding and the story in the serie but it did nothing for me.

We barely see her mate, she spends most of her time with one of his brothers. And a lot of chapters were dedicated to her whining about being horny all the time. I love shifter romances usually but for once, I feel like I wasted my time.

Noooo 😩 That’s it?! I don’t wanna wait til April to read more 🥺

This was part of the Why Choose book of the month club email newsletter, I immediately downloaded and read the entire thing over the course of the morning. It was intriguing and different from what I’ve been reading, and I immediately liked all of the characters. Even the very growly Knox and the domineering Cyrus. Bishop is probably going to be my favorite though. He’s so sweet!!

My only complaint is the fact that it ended on a cliffy and I couldn’t just queue up the next book. I have to wait 🥲

Brilliant read! Spoilers-ish

Tessa Cole has been one of my favourite authors. Her books always drag me into them right from pages one. The characters are rich and well rounded and by the end of the first book they always feel like friends. With friends you are always invested in their stories and lives. This book made me upset when it came to the end.... will Audrey admit she has mutual bonds with Knox's wolf? Will she become the "godess" knox's wolf think she is? What will happen?? Well. I guess we have to wait until April.
I'm preordering as soon as I can.

Hmmm

I remember reading this book a while back and couldn't quite remember what I didn't like. Someone insisted I give it another go. There is a lot of internal dialogue, a lot, that is a pet hate of mine. Someone asks a question and off the heroine goes into her head for 5 pages, then she refuses to talk, my eyes can only roll so much.

The heroine doesn't stand out, she's mehhh I find it hard to believe after years of abuse, people are finally kind to her and Not Once does she say thank you, not even for saving her life. I was not engaged at all.

Edit For Series Completion Review: [Beware Spoilers]

This is barely a 3-star read. The word "heaved" is used so freaking much (22 times in book 3 and 28 times in book 6 as an example). That seems like such a small thing, but once you notice it you can't stop seeing it. I need synonyms please. The FMC doesn't actually show consistent, solid strength until book 6 - I DNF at 44% and she still didn't have a wolf and still hadn't mated her last guy. So my fears from book 3 were confirmed: The ending was rushed. The pacing of this series is terrible. The events are all pretty much filler, this could have been a trilogy and been better off.

By far the worst series I've read from this author and that is so disappointing.

[Original Review]
Not bad but also confused on how the FMC “brother” is related to her. Wasn’t explained well and it bugged the crap out of me. Otherwise it was a decent story. Hope there’s legit groveling from the assholes. The “dreams” don’t count toward future forgiveness.
