So I haven't read any of the previous books in the series, but when I found out this was an MMF shifter romance with bisexual men and a kickass woman I hit the Buy button so fast. So fast. And, hey, one of the MCs is casually a black guy (not sure if the FMC is biracial or not).

The author does a great job of acquainting a new reader, like me, to this world of shifter politics, fluid family structures, and the many characters from previous books. I'm actually impressed by this. While it's a bit tedious at first, it's very helpful for setting the stage for later conflicts.

Unfortunately, the rest of the writing is just as tedious. It's most evident in the dialogue, which has characters giving excessive information at each and every turn. And overall, there's too much hand-holding of the reader throughout the story. It's not that there's more telling than showing, rather there's too much telling and showing at the same time, like I'm not trusted to come to my own conclusions.

What I do like is how this book ditches many things that ruin MF romances for me. Charlotte is comfortable enough with her sexuality to ask for what she wants, and her end game isn't about having children (though she's open to it many, many years from now). Additionally, even though she has two protective men surrounding her, she does not need saving when it really matters.

I would have liked more emphasis on Bram and Shane's chemistry, though, because the prose is heavily skewed toward Charlotte's POV during sex. Their threesome scene is exclusively from her POV, and she gets another two scenes with each man separately. Meanwhile, Bram and Shane share mutual BJs, and that's about it. We don't even get to see after all that teasing. It's basically the Charlotte Show, and both men are rather condescending in their dirty talk towards her, which ruined whatever fun was left.

Oh and the whole external conflict was a lot of anti-climactic moments piled on top of each other. Though, I admit the final battle scene is exciting and well paced, so at least I didn't leave with a sour taste in my mouth.

Overall this book has all the ingredients to make me gush, and yet I'm over here taking points off for technicalities. Your mileage will vary.

3.5⭐️ rounded up

The 4th book in the series focuses on the relationship between Charlotte and Bram of the Redwood pack and their failed attempt to form a mating bond. The arrival of Shane (a human soldier who had saved one of the Talon pack in the previous book) who had been injected with a serum and shot leads to the Alpha making him part of the pack. Charlotte and Bram both feel the mating bond with Shane and they try to work through what this means whilst trying to protect both packs from the humans who want to harm them. Another good story but I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as the others in the series.

ARC REVIEW

Talon Pack book four and the first menage for this series I believe. These three are stunning! Charlotte, Bram and Shane they deserve each other they need each other. Bram is the strength, Charlotte is the heart and Shane is the glue that sticks them all together. Charlotte believes the Goddess is punishing her for being who she is the daughter of the wolf who nearly destroyed the Redwood Pack. Bram has loved Charlotte for as long as he could remember but the mating bond didn't snap into place like they had hoped, leaving both of them heart broken. Bram will not settle for anyone other than Charlotte. Shane was just a soldier he was doing what he was told until it became clear to him that the man in charge was doing something very wrong and he tried to help but that just ended with him being used as a guinea pig.

Half dead and smelling like a wolf Gideon did the only thing he could to keep Shane from dying he brought him into the pack. Finn had a feeling that he needed to bring Charlotte with him to the Talon pack. When Charlotte gets there she is shocked to find that the soldier who once worked with General Montag is a potential mate. Bram goes to the Talon pack and just like with Charlotte, Bram is a potential mate with Shane. It's touch and go there for a bit while they all figure things out and with General Montag still on the lose things are still a bit uncertain. With Shane's help the Talon and Redwood packs destroy the facility where Shane was taken and changed into whatever it is that he was changed into and along with it the drug that made him this way. Nothing of the drug remains except what still might be in Shane's blood and that's what Montag wants now. After a rough start Charlotte, Bram, and Shane finally come to terms with what's happening and accept the possibility of happiness between the three of them. Montag however does not give up easily.

Overall, another great story and climactic...big battle. Charlotte and her men, woooo, it's getting hot in here.

The Redwoods and the Talons mix again - this time around, Charlotte and Bram are up, and the Talon isn't someone who should be a wolf, but has ended up one, sort of. Shane is and isn't, he feels wolf-y but not quite. Gideon brought him into the Talons, and there he must stay. His road from soldier, to fighting the paranormal world, to becoming part of it, isn't easy or explainable, yet here he is. Nothing is easy for him, but the feelings he has for Charlotte and Bram, even when he can't explain them, is the one clear thing through it all

Charlotte and Bram remain friends, yet their failed attempt to be mates weighs on them heavily both. Charlotte is sure it is because of where she came from, while Bram is sure there was something just off. Bram also wants his friend to be happy again, and erase the sadness that cloaks her. The attraction is still there between them, and they both are suffering for it

Not sure what it is, or where it is going, they cautiously move forward. The world around them isn't waiting for them to make decisions though, war is brewing and it won't wait for them. The are in the centre of a maelstrom and time isn't their friend. They follow their instincts, and it all works out, shocking them and those around them at times

This was a perfect blend of emotion, action, and sexy times. You can read it as a stand alone, but you'll want to know what happened before, and what is going to happen after!

Action-packed storyline & unforgettable characters who drag you into their tale of fated mates. Each book in this awesome series is linked by an overall background storyline which flows through each one with the finale being revealed in the last book. These stories should be read in order so that the reader can gain the best knowledge of the Talon pack history. Bram and Charlotte have known they were mates for a long time, but the mating bond won’t work. Bram feels there is something missing but cannot give up on their love. When Shane arrives at the entry to the Talon den, little do Bram and Charlotte know what fate has in store for them. While they are trying to maneuver through this unexpected triad bond, danger threatens everyone. This is such an exciting story. I love this series.

Wolf betrayed!!

Another 5 stars for this amazing read! Charlotte and Bram have been best friends since they were younger. Their relationship evolved and they realised that they were mates. Unfortunately when they mated their bond never took. Shane is a soldier and he is working with Montag, until he becomes aware of his true intentions towards the wolves. He helps one escape and thus puts his own life in danger. He goes to Talon land to get help and discovers he is now something else and he is calmed by two people, Charlotte and Bram. He still has a lot to learn about himself and his mates, but he is stronger than he thinks! Looking forward to the next book!!

Wickedly Awesome!!!

Charlotte Jameson was born into the Pack that nearly destroyed the world 30 years ago but she grew up in the Redwood Pack with her sister and brother-in-law who adopted her as their daughter.

She has been carrying the weight of her father's sins for so long, Charlotte fell in love with her best-friend, Bram Devlin and vice versa. They tried mating but they both knew that something was missing.

Bram Devlin loved Charlotte more than anything in the world, no matter how much they tried to mate they could feel that the mating wouldn't hold. There was a very important piece that needed to come into play for their bond to take.

It was his job to protect the Redwood Pack Alpha, Kade Jameson and with the packs in danger. Bram was willing to give his life to make sure everyone would be safe even if it meant, he wouldn't have a future with the woman he'd always loved, Charlotte Jameson.

Shane Bruin was introduced to us in the second book in the series, AN ALPHA'S CHOICE. And he kept making some appearances through out the series. At the end of MATED IN MIST, he found his way to the Talon Pack.

Now a new member of the Talon Pack, his life was in danger from what his former employer did to him. One look at Shane and Charlotte's wolf knew that he was their mate yet her human side refused to accept what the moon Goddess was showing her.

Bram was shocked as Charlotte when he saw Shane for the first, one look and he realized that there was a bond tethering them together. Shane was drawn to Bram and Charlotte, his inner beast needed them like he needed air to breathe.

Whatever was done to Shane by Montag wasn't working so Beam had to step in in order to save the man who had started to own a piece of his soul. As Bram, Charlotte & Shane figured out what they meant to each other. Shane's past threatened to rip them apart.

With the Redwood and the Talons Packs working together to keep their kind safe. Apart Bram, Charlotte & Shane were great but together they were a force to be reckoned with.

WOLF BETRAYED is the fourth installment in Carrie Ann Ryan's TALON PACK series. This book was fascinating, heart-wrenching, beautiful, action-packed and suspenseful. Loved the new direction this remarkable series has taken. Five stars!

A quick recap....

In the previous book, human Shane Bruins helped the heir to the Talon Pack, Ryder Brentwood and his mate Leah Helm then is captured by General Keith Montag. After suffering through the experiments conducted on him, Shane escapes and makes his way to the Talon pack. Near death, they discover that Montag tried to change Shane into a wolf.

And now....

I was thrilled to read Charlotte's story. I felt for her when she was discovered as a little girl during the Redwood Pack series. She had been through so much and now as an adult feels lost due to her heritage. Add in the fact that she and Bram are so in love with one another but can't mate because when they tried the mating bond never came. They are both so uncertain of where that leaves them. Charlotte and Bram both discover that they are the only ones who can soothe Shane which leaves the three in even more confusion and trying to each find a place while the packs are preparing for war.

Bram was so great! He spent all his time hiding his strength but when it was needed he had no trouble showing it. While Shane was so lost and uncertain yet knew that somehow Bram and Charlotte was his. His entire life has suddenly changed and I must say that he took it all in stride. The man that he held in high esteem has not only betrayed him but changed him and while his loyalties shift his inner strength never waivers. The three discover that even though they have been lost and looking for a place to belong that place was right in front of them.

As always Carrie Ann Ryan has given us characters to fall in love with and I can't wait for the next book in the series. The little preview we got tells me that it will be explosive. Also I am curious as to the repercussions of the events with Montag. I am certain there will be plenty of things that he has done or planned that will come to light.

Wolf Betrayed (Talon Pack #4) by Carrie Ann Ryan Carrie Ann Ryan continues to do a spectacular job with the Talon series.  WOLF BETRAYED takes place following book three, MATED IN MIST.  After helping the heir to the Talon Pack, Ryder Brentwood and his mate Leah Helm, human Shane Bruins is captured by General Keith Montag, who conducts experiments on him.  Shane escapes near death and makes his way to the Talon pack, where they discover that Montag tried to change Shane into a wolf.  Charlotte Jamenson and Bram Devlin of the Redwood Pack are the only two that can help sooth Shane’s wolf.  Meanwhile, both packs are on the edge due to impending war.

I loved hearing Charlotte and Bram’s story.  It broke my heart how they were both so tormented that their bond did not work in the previous book.  All three of the main characters have a lot to process.   Charlotte struggles with her past when she was a member of the Central Pack.  She is not really certain where she belongs. Bram has been hiding his true strength.  Shane’s entire life has changed. He needs to learn how to be a wolf.  All three are dominant.  They have great chemistry.  They help balance each other, making them stronger as a unit.  I love the three of them together.

I enjoyed the plot.  It was fast-moving and thrilling.  General Montag is a dangerous adversary.  The man is demented and truly believes he is a savior.  He does not care how many people he kills.  The story had interesting twists and complications.

Carrie Ann Ryan once again amazes me.  She does an astounding job of growing the plot and characters that started with the Redwood Series.  I’m looking forward to Parker’s, Brandon’s, and Avery’s story next.  I’m curious how Avery is going to be introduced to the packs.

This is the 4th book in the Talon Pack series. The series follows the Redwood and Talon Packs into the future generation. The packs have been exposed to the human world and very bad people are determined to destroy these "animals". This is Charlotte's story.

Charlotte. Loved that sweet girl int he the Redwood series. She had a life of hurt and pain before she was even a teen. Her sister and her mate raised her to be a strong young lady. But deep inside, Charlotte has never felt worthy of their love, much less the love of a mate.

As with many mate bonds, things get more complicated before they get better. The bad humans are trying to mess with genetics. Shane was a soldier for them but was also experimented with. He is definitely something more than human and more than wolf. But he also turns out to be the perfect puzzle piece for Bram and Charlotte.

Separately, they recognize each other as mates. It isn't until all three get together that they realize the mate bond will only work if they are a triad. Super steamy and so touching when all three realize they are worthy of love.

It seems like the biggest baddy has been done in but the sneak and the next book leads me to believe there is more fighting to be done. Always great to see the "original" pack again as their children forge forth in the world. Looking forward to more!

Just when I think that Carrie can't possible write something better than the last book, she proves me wrong brilliantly. I loved Bram, Charlotte, and Shane's story. LOVED. Charlotte nearly broke my heart with how she suffered not just with the fact that her father betrayed the pack, but even more so with not being completely mated to Bram and not understanding why. She knows how much she loves him and he loves her right back. Bram is at a loss with how to reach her as Charlotte pulls away from him. Then Shane comes into their life and finally everything makes sense. I loved these three together and so enjoyed their story.

I give Wolf Betrayed 5 hearts!

This book starts out exactly like the last 3. Big secrets that CANNOT be shared… BUT, are eventually shared and miraculously were never a problem in the first place. Turns out that giant secret was just a complete nonissue. In all 4 books in the series so far the characters basically refuse to rely on their pack. They know they should and mention it often but they don’t want to be a burden. Why write a book about a pack if you aren’t going to utilize it. At one point the alpha says “hey that guy needs help and I’m here to help but, don’t need me.” Alrighty then. PACK!
The random Parker chapter that only exists to “introduce” (he’s mentioned in the other books) a character for her next book and has absolutely nothing to do with the current book was an even bigger letdown than when she did this in the last books. Parker hasn’t been home in YEARS. He’s been out meeting with other packs trying to do… something. He’s done this for YEARS but doesn’t know if he’s done any good. Super special chapter. Not at all a waste of time for Parker or the reader.
The Avery chapter was fine. It comes near the end before the epilogue but, why?! Just finish this book and tease the next book with a TEASER FOR YOUR NEXT BOOK!
Charlotte throws a tantrum at the beginning of the book. She doesn’t believe in fate and she doesn’t trust the moon goddess. Nothing ever comes of that. She just forgets that and moves on with her new men.
The sex scenes were less generic but only in the sense that she added a 3rd party. She didn’t do it all that well but she did change it up. Carrie Ann Ryan likes the word cunt. It’s fine but she still has such poor character development that her sex scenes seem to be between people who aren’t even in her book.
The actions scenes were worth 1 star in this book compared to the others in the series which were nonexistent. Same MO, Bombs. She skipped the tranquilizers so that was a treat. She did bring back the “stuff” on the knives Montag uses which is great. Who doesn’t love “stuff” on their knives? This “stuff” makes it so the wolves can’t heal but guess what… they do heal. Serum is also used. They inject serum AND it’s poisonous. But that’s it. We never learn anything about it at all. Stuff and serum and bombs. This author has no follow through. She just writes in a few sentences explaining that whatever problem has been solved and then leads you to another “something is coming, it’s not over.”
Thank god these books are free on kindle unlimited. I do think her books are improving throughout the series but this isn’t her first series. She’s written well over 70 books (I think). Grammar and spelling are a huge problem in all of her books I’ve read. Get a damn editor.
This isn’t a huge issue but I was disappointed that Ryder and Shane saved each other in the previous book but had no interaction in this book at all. This kind of disconnect is par for course for this author. She’s so busy promoting the next book she loses herself in what’s supposed to be happening now and everything that’s happened in the past. If she does bring up the past is incredibly generic. “I was tortured, it was bad, I can’t let that happen again”

Carrie Ann Ryan's Talon Pack series continues with the story of Charlotte, Bram and Shane finding their happy ever after in an increasingly unstable situation for the pack and their place in the world.

Like with all series, if you're new to it then you'll probably not get the maximum enjoyment from it though it's certainly enjoyable and exciting as a story on its own. And if you are new then I'd definitely recommend working backwards and catching up on the whole saga. You have fun times ahead of you.

For someone who is up-to-date with the stories, and this is my only complaint, it felt like there was a lot of exposition of what had gone before (and there is a lot). For new readers this is great as you are kept up to speed but I felt like I kept getting told things I already knew, sometimes more than once.
I guess with so much drama and action, it's a fine balance of what can be assumed and what should be explained again and there were points where I felt the balance tipped too much into over-explaining.
I realise as I'm writing this, trying my best not to mention plot spoilers, then it's absolutely a very tricky job to make sure the readers know exactly what they need to so it can be forgiven. It didn't hinder my enjoyment of the story and finally getting to know Bram and Charlotte a little better. Having been in the background for so long, it felt a little over due! Shane still feels slightly mysterious, being more of an unknown quantity, and I'm sure in future books we will learn yet more about the triad and the power they can wield together.

What I always appreciate in Carrie Ann's books is her treatment of relationships and how what could potentially be tricky - in this case, the forming of a triad - is never something that is perceived as strange. I love the utter acceptance of this situation within the packs, both in this series and the Redwood series. Love is love.

The real joy for me in this this series particularly is getting to to know the pack better. I wasn't sure I'd like the Talons as much as the Redwoods but they're slowing sneaking into my heart even further with each book.

"Wolf Betrayed" by Carrie Ann Ryan. Book 4 in the Talon Pack series.

Another great addition to the series. I really enjoyed reading about the main characters of Bram, Charlotte and Shane. Previous books have already mentioned that Bram and Charlotte are a couple but their mating bond didn't work. In true Carrie Ann Ryan style, it takes a third person to complete their bond obviously making this book a triad romance with instances of m/f, m/m and m/f/m couplings. The book works as a stand alone but would be much more enjoyed if you read the series in order and know how all the characters are related.

Bram and Charlotte have been best friends almost their entire lives. They (and everyone else) thought they were true mates but when they tried to mate, the mating bond didn't form and they're not sure why. Until Charlotte and Bram meet Shane. Shane is a human soldier and an enemy of the Talon Pack. He was betrayed by his boss and was unwillingly injected with a serum. Now Shane needs the Talon Pack's help. Caught in a world between human and wolf, Shane doesn't understand the feelings he has towards both Bram and Charlotte. With a war starting between shifters and humans, can Bram, Charlotte and Shane really start a relationship?

That's basically the overall romantic plot for this book. Obviously emotions come into play, each character dealing with their own issues regarding being in relationships. The overall series story plot advances and comes to a close but another story line is introduced and teases the reader about who the next book will be about. Tiny spoiler here, the next book is also a triad romance. (But I won't say who!)

I am enjoying this series and look forward to reading the next book.

Very good shifter story

This was book 4 in the series. It could be read as a stand alone but much better if read in order, this would allow you to meet all the characters and events leading up to this story. I love this authors writing. The stories are well developed so that you can connect to the characters, Even's, and emotions. You won't want to put it down.
Overview. Charlotte and Bram have been best friends for most of their life in the Redwood pack. Both had a hard up bringing and knew how to bond to each other. It was not a surprise when the goddess told them that they were to be mates. But when they tried to mate, a part of their bond didn't form. Both of them knew something was wrong. They just didn't know how to fix it or be whole. That was until Finn told Charlotte she needed to come with him to the Talon pack and help with a medical issue. When Charlotte seen the Patient, a loud angry soldier, she knew he was her mate. But how could that be when Bram was hers too. Bram came to the Talon pack to help out Charlotte and discovered Shane the soldier was his mate too. They were a True Triade, and the goddess has a bigger plan for them. A plan that will change the future of both packs and future wolfs.

I was really looking forward to this book as it was a MMF and different than the rest in the series. The book started off well and as with all her books this was a complete standalone.

Charlotte is such a strong character who has spent her entire life trying to make amends for horrors that she didn't cause. She knows that she is supposed to be mated to Bran but they both know that something is missing as their mating bond won't complete itself. The Talon Pack gets a few new members and one of them, Shayne, sparks what is missing between Charlotte and Bran.

I enjoyed how Charlotte was truly herself and comfortable with her sexuality. I would have enjoyed more about Bran and Shayne as we don't see how they're attracted to each other. Overall this book had many anti-climactic moments but the end was amazing!

Charlotte and Bram grew up together. When they got older they thought they were mates but the bond didn't form.
Shane was part of the human against werewolf military until he finds out what is really going on. Then his superior injects him with some concoction that is meant to change him into a wolf but is only killing him. His only hope is the Talon pack.
When he arrives he is in so much pain that the only thing that helps is when Charlotte or Bram is in the room. What it means for these three is that they may be a triad but what happens when not all three of them are on board?
I absolutely love triad matings and menages. So if you don't enjoy m/m/f mating then skip this book. Otherwise enjoy it!

(Bram, Charlotte, & Shane): TRIGGERS: kidnapping, assault, science experiments. Charlotte and Bram have been best friends since they were kids and they know they are mates but when they tried to form the bond, it failed. Shane was the human that was drawn towards the talon packs shields and let in by Gideon in the previous book. He was turned into something by the general who's out to attack both packs. Extremely strong and volatile the one wolves that could calm him were Charlotte and Bram. Another triad. While dealing with the triad and the general, we also got to look more at another wolf Brandon, an omega who's exhausted his powers and in desperate need of a mate and a wolf who seems a little suspicious, Cameron. I wonder what will happen to them. Really good series so far.

Charlotte and Bram have know they’re mates, but the bond never clicked for them. Enter Shane, soldier for the enemy until he realizes the horror of the man he’s been working for. Helping Ryder escape causes a world of hurt on Shane and eventually brings him into the Talon pack. The end result worked itself out, but the journey wasn’t without its share of hiccups.

I would have liked to have had more of Shane’s POV, although Charlotte and Bram’s covered things well enough. Their relationship was relatively easy for them to come to terms with and the sexy scenes sizzled. It’s will be interesting to see what happens to the packs after their semi-anticlimactic battle with the general.

I was so excited to listen to this book. We have been finding out a little about Charlotte and Bram in previous books. I was saddened for them and wanting them to figure it out. When Shane comes on board the dynamic changes. I loved watching his transformation from human soldier to pack mate. That was wonderful. Actually all three made some changes and sort of became who they were meant to be.

I am really loving listening to this series on audio. Greg Salinas is a rock star as normal. I have listened to him in this series. He has a great alpha pack master voice!

Wolf Betrayed, the fourth book of the Talon Pack series, is a stand-alone ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). The books in this series highlight different pack members, and can be read in any sequence.I enjoyed this story so much better than book one, and many of the issues I'd had didn't appear in this book.

Great characters and story development. I liked the pacing. I'm not a fan of "there's not enough time to explain" or "you're not ready to know" methods of extending a plot, but the author made this work. Good job.

not what they expect

Shane tried to help Ryder to escape from his boss. When he got back he was nicked out and then injected with something. Shane escapes and finds his way to the Talon pack. What ever was injected is killing him. Charlotte goes with Finn to the Talon den. Charlotte walks into the room where Shane is and he calms down, but she runs. Bram hears about what happened and decides to visit. When Bram was in the room talking Shane also calmed. Are they a triad? Can they make it work? What is Shane turning into? Come on in and find out.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I LOVE THIS AUTHOR!!
This triad romance is nothing short of electric. Charlotte, Bram, and Shane’s connection is fiery, complicated, and deeply satisfying. Watching Charlotte reconcile her past with her present, and seeing three very different people come together to face an enormous threat, is captivating. The bond they share grows naturally through struggle, trust, and vulnerability, all while the war inches closer. This is poly romance done right—with heart, heat, and meaning.

I thought that this was another great addition to the series. This book focused on the triad of Charlotte, Bram and Shane. It was a little slow in the beginning but then the pace picked up. Good chemistry between the three main characters with a little action and suspense throughout the book. With each new book in the series another layer of the story is revealed. I can't wait to see what the government and military have planned

Wolf Betrayed

I love how strong Charlotte is. The way she saved herself was amazing. She needed two strong makes to mate too. Shane went through so much pain. Almost dying a couple of times. His loyalty to his mates knows no bounds. Bram has been in love with Charlotte for so long. Now that they found their third their bond was complete. I loved this book and can not wait to read the next one!

I'm only halfway through. I just realized halfway through the book that no one has mentioned Hannah, Josh, and Reed. No one has reached out to talk to Hannah, Josh, or Reed. So, just because, I searched for references for all three ... NOTHING! HOW COULD THEY POSSIBLY BE LEFT OUT OF THIS STORY?????

OK, now that I'm at 65%, I'll admit there were a mention or two about the "aunt and uncles." I feel this was a huge missed opportunity ... We could have used their repartee and honesty in conversations with the only known other triad.
